Today I take you on a tour of a Stunning Farmstead Property only built 30 years ago. In a time when land is expensive, homes built upon it are cheaply made and crammed together, this home sits alone on a large 9-acre property secluded from the big city it's in. Custom built in the early 1990s, the home features two ponds, a lookout, and multiple outbuildings. When built, the area around the house was quiet, the neighbouring homes spaced out well and across the street was a lush field with nothing but trees. The owners raised their kids here. They enjoyed the home and property, surely proud of what they built for themselves over the years.
Everything changed in 2017 when the property across the street was sold to a developer. They purchased 140 acres of land and are currently in the process of building 1,875 units on it. The area was changing fast. New developments started popping up everywhere as the town started to grow. The developer saw the family's land across the street as another opportunity to make more money and purchased it along with 4 other homes in 2022.
This newly acquired land totals roughly 30 acres. The developer plans on building a low and medium-density subdivision with 170 units in their place. One of the homes purchased is on the town's heritage list and will be moved to a different location, the rest will be demolished. Preparations on the land started a month ago. The trees on the property were all cut down and large ruts from excavators can be seen all over the property. In the coming months, this gorgeous home will be gone and nothing but a flat dirt lot will be left.

One large 1870 home which was seen for years had gotten torn down in ONE day after the ruling from the judge. Those developers literal had bulldozers running waiting for the call, when it came, the joint was flat with all the debris moved to the dump by that afternoon old forest trees leveled, cleaning it out in hours. Those Chits have no soul what so ever.
You'll see how their minds work. Large tracts of land will be taken out from the center, to prevent anyone from Bitching about it because it would be to late to do a damn thing from complaining before it's all taken down like a cancer. Damn Sad!
Actually I couldn't watch the video knowing it.

I live in a rural area with property (forest, ponds etc). So far the developers haven't done too much damage to my area but its always a fear of mine.
That little spot where you thought there might have been a elevator, I wonder if there had been a ladder there? That attic would be perfect for a young adult. My son is your age and like you said, nobody can afford to buy. That attic would be the next best thing. Or a teenager hang out. Such a beautiful home. Definitely one of my favorites.

That was a trash compactor in the kitchen. I’ve had one for 24 years and love it! One bag of trash a week usually for a family of 4. That opening with the railing upstairs may be for air circulation. I think that looked like an exhaust or attic fan? It would have been a good place for a fireman’s pole for the kiddos. lol

Give homeowners enough money and they would sell their child to a developer.
Same thing is happening where I live. This beautiful farm on the other side of our old subdivision sold to an out of state developer. Daddy popped his clogs and he wasn't even room temperature before the two daughters slapped the farmhouse and land up for sale to a mega developer. The ink wasn't dry on the sale papers before they had mowed down all the trees and tore down the farmhouse to make way for popcorn houses and apartments. I hope those who buy the houses on that property understand just how loud a freight train gets, especially when the houses are built right on top of the tracks lol.
Like a plague of locusts, these mega developers descend upon a small city, gobble up every square inch of dirt, build poor quality homes that they sell for 50% over what it is worth, and then move on to the next location. I'll be glad when we run out of land for them to descrate and pillage.

It's very sad this beautiful home is being knocked down, however, the building of 200 or so homes in its place will provide over a 1000 people a place they can call home. THE major reason for unaffordability is lack of housing supply. Canada's population is increasing dramatically, and if there is any hope for young people to afford homes, many more developments like this have to happen.

That property was an absolute dream come true for some family. I always ask myself why they can't just build around places like that: then it hit me. They can't do that because it would make anything surrounding it look cheap. It's still absurd, what a waste when waste should be much more of a concern.

I'm not sure if i am more angry at these homeowners for not holding out who they sell to or these developers who could easily redevelop run down neighborhoods. Anyway, what a beautiful find and i could tell you felt an attchment to it's beauty.
I think in the basement that was a wet bar against the wall and the room next to the bath may have been a sauna that they tore apart before vandals got to it or was sold off.

I know that the family sold this but I imagine that it must hurts to see what is happening to their beautiful home and property! I wonder if one of the parents died and it was too much for the other to manage anymore? It’s hard to believe that all the care and love that went into this home that they sold it just for the money. There had to be a reason or unforeseen circumstance that forced them to sell. I hope it wasn’t just for greed!

What you call the “upper oven” is just a fancy looking microwave, not an oven.

It's a trash compactor. It says " compact" at one of the buttons. I would not want one of those. I suspect they can get smelly if not cleaned frequently. Interesting video. The previous owners probably are happily enjoying what they were paid for the home, also, they are probably of retirement age and happy not to have so much house. Thanks for this excellent video.

Yes that's a trash compactor in the kitchen. My parents' house has one. It's such a shame this is being destroyed. This is a house of dreams.

They should use the main house as a real estate office for the homes they are about to build or as a community center for the neighborhood
