Hope everyone enjoys! This video took me the longest by far out of any of the videos I've made, over 60+ hours over the past few weeks. So if you enjoyed PLEASE leave a like and subscribe, it helps SOOOOO much.

Shootting to upload another video by late April/early May. Hope you alll stick around for that!
Another blessing from Connor01 in just another month?
I'm actually surprised it only took that long. I expected something of this quality to need at least double that. Crazy you did this that fast.
I WAS THERE DURING THE PRIMERE
Hey, out of curiosity is a Super Mario Odyssey World Record Progression something you'd be interested in creating? It has quite a history behind it, although due to it being a newer game, I don't think SummoningSalt will be making a video anytime soon. The community would be happy to help you out with research, and it'd be really really cool to see a video for, especially considering that it is one of the more popular speedruns out there, and doesn't have any really big progression videos out there, at least covering the grind for 56 and all that.
@Connor01 subscribed purely for the
"Allows runners to take the-"
"Cut they like best".
I see you lol.
classic speedrun game
went from 'how do we collect everything as fast as possible' to 'ok guys we discovered how to let DK walk through any wall at any time anywhere"
N64 games are a broken masterpiece
Yeah it seems speedrunners don't really bother with games that don't have exploitable bugs to skip massive sections of the game
@@liamconverse8950Well yeah because otherwise they have to play for like 5+ hours at a time
@@liamconverse8950 even when there are exploitable bugs, it's more fun to just play through most of the game. For example, ALttP speedruns are mostly randomizers since the base game speedrun can be completed in a couple minutes compared to the randomizer taking an hour and a half
@@liamconverse8950or maybe, hear me out here, speedrunners are the ones who find skips in the games they run because that helps them beat the game faster.
Even I didn’t know I had the record twice lol. Crazy detailed. Awesome video!
Chunky lives
How do you not know something like that lol
@@TheEntrepreneur420bro was too busy running the game lol it’s believable and hilarious
Holy moley!
@@brad7073 I do plenty of speedrunning too 😭 I just can’t imagine speedrunning on a popular leaderboard and managing to get the record twice and not know. Not denying that it’s possible, it’s just funny lol
Beginning: It's a challenging game with over a thousand necessary items.
End: and that's when we learned you could just walk through walls
As Swordless Link once said: "This is DK 64 so we can just swim through the wall"
It's nice that people know and remember him
@@Andreas_Mann dude I miss watching his "with glitches" series. I hope he is doing alright
@@Seifer_42 He uploaded a new TAS on TASVideos recently.
dang you made me old with those names
Nice surprise! One of my favourite speedgames and my main speedrunning community! Gonna watch this over the weekend.
hi Bismuth
Is that where you get the profile picture from?
@@davidvarna makes sense now that you mention it 😂
The OG, blessed be the Bismuth
Your tas video prepared me for this video, ty lmao
Dude just drops amazing videos and then leaves for 12 months. This is the 3rd year in a row now. Connor you can't just keep blueballing us like this.
tru
mans will never make it on youtube if he keeps doing this
@@x312Gaminghe’s an editor for a few channels, he’ll be fine
Lmao true dat
@@onkarlally for who?
just watched this right now and decided to check the leaderboard to be surprised that it was beaten again TODAY! (5/31/23) with a time of 24:17. Absolutely insane by signa
...is this the setup for "signa balls"
check it again, its down to 24:07
Billy Mitchell completed it before it had loaded.
didn't say anything or he'll sue u
Love the amount of smaller channels randomly popping up with topics I actually care about lately, always nice finding hidden gems
Well, I'm not gonna deny that I would much rather hear someone try to bullshit me about classic 64 games than any other video about any modern game. Lately a bunch of Ocarina and Majoras fangames have come out and no wonder people are loving them. They are much better than any TOK or BOW game. Even those fangames are more passionate and fun than any modern slob product nintendo puts out for us these days.
Ya it seems the algorithms has been doing something right lately. I've been getting a ton of great recommendations lately just like this video. This video especially is really cool to get a recommendation for since I just started playing this game again. Definitely not speedrunning it though. I'm not that skilled lol
This guy surprises us every year

Great video! I really appreciate the amount of research and attention to detail you gave for this project. The "orange revolution" highlight especially brings back such fond memories from when I first learned to speedrun the game. And yet amazingly, today there are 0 orange clips left in the any% route, even on N64. Just goes to show how glitch discoveries are re-shaping the run over the years.
How did you escape the _BARREL_
the dk64 speedruning community:
... _y e a a a a a h_
Speedrunners are mathematicians and scientists and they don't even know it.
2:00 you scared me that there was voice editing problems, well done with getting the overly complicated problems out there.
Also its been so long since Summoning Salt's video and I never played the game I had forgotten much of all it.
True definition of Quality over Quantity. I love your videos man keep it up 👍
30 hours. According to wikipedia, that's how long it takes me to take a shit
1:49 god damn I thought I was having a stroke
The legend is back!
ok
DK64 is probably my favorite game of all time (atleast tied favorite game). Love it so much and the speedruns can be pretty crazy. Cool to see the history behind the runs! Great video!
I have no idea why, but this has become my comfort video. I’ve rewatched it more than I would care to admit. It’s just so well executed being a well paced, dynamic, interesting, passionate with a touch of humor, thought out video. It’s no secret that Connor01 is a ridiculously dedicated dude but this brought it to a new level. This video feels like an incredibly fascinating and encompassing movie with a documentary touch. Amazing video and huge props to everyone who worked on it, the time it must’ve taken to make this definitely payed off.
It’s a good video but I wouldn’t call him ridiculously dedicated man drops 1 video a year
@@LyTeStorm it’s not his full-time job so considering that he has to live his own life too, it’s UNBELIEVABLY dedicated for essentially a hobby
Keep these videos up and it’ll be his full time soon. Great content
Yeah man I played DK64 when it was brand new as a 6 year old and everything was good with the world.
@@michaelwhalen9084 I'd say talented moreso than dedicated
Great video, I thought you were doing a bit when you described how many collectibles are needed to beat the game because it was so complicated. Despite this, you explained every trick and optimization in a way that made sense to someone who has never played the game.
This is one of the best speedrun documentaries on youtube... I look at your videos and you only have 4! You nailed it
Speed running is so cool but I can’t bring myself to TRY it.
Just pick an easy speedrun nobody has done. Then you get an easy world record.
@@RichRaptorVr “speed” run a game when it first comes out and you’ll be in the leaderboard for a bit. A short bit, but still there
Current record is SigNa’s 24:07 set a month ago from writing
This video is longer than a DK 64 speedrun
amazing video as always, I find your voice so easy to listen to. This is definitely one of the more crazy glitchy speedruns I've seen haha, I love it. Can't wait to see what's next
To explain the "Lag makes you Go Fast."
Delta Time. This is where the game says "OK. I am SUPPOSED to render X Frames per Second. How, long has it been since I rendered a Frame? Am I rendering at the Proper Pace?"
If the next frame of Animation would be faster than the Target FPS, then the game will "Slow" the character. This Rarely happens, but it can.
If there's a lot of Lag, that increases the Time to Render the next frame and, "Go Fast." happens to maintain a Consistent "Speed" for the player.
Unfortunaly, Rareware, didn't quite do this right, and things, break when Delta Time says "Go Fast." Because of the speed gained, things like, Collisions, don't have a chance to process or if they do, it's too late. The Character has gone beyond the collision areas.
wow that was really enjoyable! thanks for your effort - amazing video!
The bane and fear of any game programmer...bugs/exploits in the FSM
This was a fantastic video Connor, thank you very much.
Awesome video! Always love these things, gets me interested in more than my own speedruns!
Just found your channel. It satisfied my summoning salt itch.
Thank you for entertaining and educating us!
Awesome video! So much nostalgia for me personally, I remember grinding as a kid for a long time to beat the game and getting constantly frustrated ! Amazing to see how everyone in the community made the game so broken!
Recently found the channel and have been binging. Keep up the great work!
Hi Connor01,
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how proud I am of you for creating such an informative and well-researched video on the world record history of Donkey Kong 64 world record progression. Your dedication and passion for the game truly shines through in your video, and I learned so much about the history and evolution of this iconic game.
It's clear that you put a lot of effort into researching and compiling all of the information, and your delivery and presentation were both engaging and entertaining. Your love for the game is infectious, and I can't wait to see what other amazing content you create in the future.
So once again, congratulations on creating such an incredible video. You should be extremely proud of yourself, and I hope you continue to pursue your passion for gaming and sharing your knowledge with others.
Great video! Thanks for the time you spent working on it!
Love the content! Thanks for taking the time to put all this together.
Took me longer to comprehend what was happening in this video than it did for these guys to beat the game!!!!
Hell yeah, dude. Glad to see you’re back. Appreciate your effort, fella.
Waiting for this year's piece of gold. Love your vids.
that moment before 2 minutes pretty much summs up how these type of videos have gone after Summoning Salt, nice video !
DK64 is actually one of the best 3D platformers. Instant classic.
No it is not lmao, broken overly long mess with absolutely no QoL. Yeah it’s neat as a speed game but casually it’s awful
Even as a kid I knew it was nowhere near as good as Banjo Kazooie - I finished it but it was a slog.
The core game is great. But the challenges range from good to boring to stupid
This is a crazy detailed video. Incredibly informative. Thank you!
Leaving a comment to boost this video in the algorithm. This kind of amazing video needs as much attention as possible!
this video was amazing thank you for all your hard work
This is exactly the type of content that the speedrunning community needs.
thank you for this great video!! good content :)
Brilliant video. Thanks for the effort. It must have taken a ton of research!
Great work! Thanks for the speed content!
Amazing work. Liked and subbed!
"My foot was a BALLOON"
- Donkey Kong
I love seeing content being made on one of my favorite childhood games.
Very well done. Awesome video!
The quality difference between this vid and the NSMW one is insane. Keep up the amazing work!!!
1:50 i thought i accidently opened another video and was frantically going through all my tabs looking for the culprit xD
Brother, this doccumentary was freaking awesome! I usually don't like this type of content, but his was a masterpiece
genuinely had no clue kosmic had a place in this story that's awesome lmao
Missed the Premiere but I'm so glad to see you back
There is a tas explaination from bismuth channel. And the tas was made by ringrush. There will be a really good explainion from there.
Comparing Donkey Kong 64 to "War and Peace" JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH VERY LONG is literally the most fucking hilarious and stupid thing I believe any human has ever done.
You just KNOW that dude was struggling through that book for his 90s literature class in college, but to compare it to that is so funny it hurts lol.
War and Peace is the Dark Souls of literature
1:29 I love how you animated the number there. Creative details are fun.
I enjoy these kind of videos mostly because of the technical explanations. Please don’t skip them
Love your videos they are always great to see
Welcome back. Thank you for the video.
Please make more.
Nice to see how much love this subgenre of gaming still gets in 2023. Sad seeing Ballaam's name at the start though, I wish he'd come back and upload again 😢
Lanky Kong finally being useful.
32:31 - Wow, only 17 people, including "BoM Kick Club" and "____" those legends! Jokes aside, great video, very well made!
10:50 is why i like speedrunning. The amount of dedication and Theory crafting people do is just so fun
Bro how do you even do that skip ringrush did. Its unreal how much movement you have to memorize for that. It looks like two simple jumps but you can see all the small movements in between, the amount of perfection you have to pull off is ridiculous. I mean to be fair just finding out what movement you need is already absurd
Pls dont make us wait a whole year for another 🔥 video bro lol keep up the good work love the videos
This made for a great sleep aid. I love video essays that are like lullabies.
I appreciate the F-zero GX music that was snuck in here, great video all around.
Glad to see your back!
and when the world needed him the most, he came back.
Fun video. Thanks for making it.
Awesome stuff, being inspired by SummoningSalt and AverageTrey is about as good as it gets. You pulled it off too, great vid!
It sure was fun breaking this game in the early days.
Already know this is gonna be a masterpiece!
Edit: It absolutely was!
Fantastic video dude, really on the level of Summoning Salt. You find some time to post more often and you'll be on top of a growing trend with speedrun history videos
Dk 64 is an absolute classic. Havent actively followed the speedrunning scene of it but ive looked into some runs once in a while. And now we have a definitive documentation about the entire history, awesome. Keep it up man, youre doing a good job and if some runners and other contributors are reading this as well, keep it up too! You guys are fantastic.
(also the used music in 44:36 isnt in the google docs and funnily enough is the only theme i dont know about, can someone recognize it for me? That would be cool)
Starship from Mario Sports Mix
@@blubboiii7706 thanks a ton
Man, I wish you would have continued to make videos like this Connor.
You arent Summoning Salt...
So i guess ill watch and sub! Awesome to see another high quality speedrunz covering channel. Looking forward to more content.
_Feature-length_ video, I'm gonna need some extra bananas for this
I've been waiting for this for a really long time. Been asking for a banjo Kazooie/ tooie
Record video would be awesome
Feels like life time away the 4th 😅
This was a crazy entertaining and informative history lesson 😮
Love the use of One Ahead System on the RTA segment. SPEEEEEEED
Amazing document on the history of speedrunning this.
DK64 is my favorite speedrun and game. It's insane how walls just stopped existing after a certain point.
Bro I thought you were gone for good 😂
ok
@@LavaCreeperPeople ok
Superb video! Very entertaining. Also, it seems that "Awhitmore" managed to shave off another 6 seconds a month ago. DK64 is so buggy that I would assume someone will eventually find a way to beat it in under 10 minutes. I think it's only a matter of time, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up having to do with someone discovering a new main menu glitch involving those cutscenes or something else in the menus.
I miss the days for RingRush’s DK64 streams. Those were some of the best days of my life.
I remember trying to jump past the guy guarding the levels and actually getting it as a kid! Glitches where everywhere back then and I knew there had to be a way to cheese past him. I got it after a little monkeyin around.
Alright I’m subbed and commenting and liking this video in hopes it allows your channel to grow and you make more videos (do history of link to the past speed runs next please)
Fantastic vid, i hope you can make a living off these fantastic videos. ❤
Great video, nice edits
Don't let signas record fool you, connor01 only has 4 videos.
Bravo dude. Subscribed
Always hated this compared to the three kong countries for snes. It felt like all you did was fetch quests. Glad too see there were more ways to enjoy it. Im gonna go back on my wii u and give it another try. Thanks.
I subscribed 3 seconds in. I'm 35, I used to play ALL these nes and n64 games years ago. I love this speed running shit.
I absolutely love how many channels are using TTYD music.
