    Transmission failure imminent. Probably bushing in oil pump housing getting stuck on torque converter.

    my car had a similar problem, it happened to be the coils an spark plugs. but before i replaced them it got so bad my car shuttered constantly from 2nd to 3rd gear. after replacement of the coils and spark plugs, it had another issue with the A/C compressor. I replaced that and also reset transmission by holding down the gas pedal for 40 sec while the key was in and engine off. turned car on drove 20mph for a mile.
    my car now operates like a champ and has great gas mileage! all of this was 25,000 miles ago. (key factor - driving in M/S mode) try not to redline. or better yet dont redline even though critics an technicians say you can. it puts alot of stress on the car an causes things like this to happen. i know by first hand how fun it is to push these cars to their limit but its not so fun when your wallet is crying. (owner of BMW 328i Sedan)

      I did a red line once, and the same day car start slip when in the hill.
      if I understand correctly, I need do two thing
      1. replace coils an spark plugs (all six)
      2. reset transmission by holding down the gas pedal for 40 sec while the key was in and engine off. turned car on drove 20mph for a mile.
      by the way, how do you find out these methods?

      Aaron Cortez I’m having the same problem on a 2009. Vibrates and drives slowly even cutting off with try spark plugs and coil , but I’ll have to wait for the diagnostic from the dealer.

    When your car is off put the key in and don't turn the car on. Next press and hold the accelerator for 40 seconds, beyond the clip on the floor. Then turn your car on and drive 20 miles at a moderately normal pace. This will reset your transmissions shift points, as the car is constantly learning your driving style. My 128i does this same thing and I reset the tcm once a month and I never have this problem.

      +Sueann Bustos do I reset al the same way? no, to do a software reset turn the key on with the car off, press and hold the odometer reset button for 15 seconds until it shows your vehicle VIN. enter the code your Vin gives you. option 23 is reset. press that.

      +Josh Lester hey Josh I tried the thing u were talking about holding the accelerator for 40 seconds , that didn't seem to make a difference for me. I guess I'm going to have to take it to the dealer to get fixed😢😭 thanks if you can think of anything else that may work for my problem please let me know... Thanks again

      This makes sense because mine was doing this and I thought something was off, but long story short I had got a loaner from the dealer when they were doing a brake and tire job and my loaner was brand new 2017 and did the same thing I was like wtf, thats when I realized it was me making the car jerk in downshift or slowing down braking etc.... so yea these cars have to adapt to your driving style so hopefully im not ruining my car by the way I drive :(

    I am having the same issue and I'm figuring it out as of now . If anyone has the same problem here it goes. My e46 has exactly the same problem. Let me ask the OP . When your driving if you hit the accelerator all the way down . Does your car accelerated thru all gears then it holds the last 2 gears all the way to redline. For instant if youre on the freeway and you hit the gas and it downshift to the lower gear, it'll get hung up until it feels like changing. It can take anywhere from a few second to 30 minute or longer. My car only does this in sports mode but in regular gears it's normal . Check your tire size or tire pressure . This will throw the computer module for the transmission out of wack . This will usually happens after you have a low tire pressure warning. If one tire is diffrent from the other it will trigger this because the revolution of each wheel will be diffrent. The sensor measure all tire to make sure the transmission is safe to shift . The tire sensor will tell you look you have a bad tire . If you ignore it, then it'll say ok if you ignore me I will just tell The transmission to hold a gear longer because one wheel is spinning slower then the rest. I'm surprise you don't have a dcs warning also . Bottom line is mis match tire size or wheel will make your transmission out wack. I have own 9 or 10 bmw from every series for 20 years. These computer are really sophisticated. Especially the transmission module in a adapted transmission . It use multiple sensor to make sure everything goes right. It use speed sensor...tire pressure sensor , maf and throttle sensor to control your transmission. Even anything else that's related to these sensor can cause the transmission to act abnormal .

      It seems like you have a big knowledge in bmw transmission. I hope that you can help me with the problem I am having. I own a BMW X5 e53 2001 (4.4l) after about 30 minutes of driving and mostly aggressive driving it gets in a mode that it holds gears and it changes them only if it redlines. After some minutes in this mode it gets well again and goes normal and then again it gets on this mode. I got it repaired and it happened again and again and then I sold it and bought another one and it still does it. (The person that bought my old transmission doesn’t has any problems). What should I do??

      ZF Transmissions are quite Bulletproof if they are properly maintained and fluid changed every 50 to 60 thousand miles also Newbridge seals and a very inexpensive seal kit is recommended the transmission will take care of itself after that

      Transmission reset (put key in, click it in, dont start engine, hold gas pedal for 30 sec.) and automatic transmission shudder stop. They sell it at auto zone and BMW recommends it👌🏻

      @@manueltorres5698 it's a transmission fluid additive. It's in a red tube. Just ask the guy at the counter for it they'll be able to tell you what it is then youtube how to add trans fluid to your car and add it like that

    If your transmission is jumping when trying to shift 1-2 or 2-1....it's the guibo joint, and not the transmission. See this video and others about GUIBO JOINT. ruclips.net/video/mF64PEOf420/видео.html

    1 and 2 gear ...i had Similar problems, Just replace the solenoids on the transmission, The new set cost about $500 on ebay + original Trans fluid will make it perfect..and you can do it yourself. and will be like new and smooth shifting.

    i dont see a problem....just reset adaptation values....it is holding because probably after spirited drive or ur son was driving it so it expects to be revved but u drive it slowly....i have similar problems, when it's jerking and slipping after i changed the oil

    There is nothing wrong with your transmission bro. My car had the same issue. It was a bad crankshaft sensor. Took awhile for computer to throw a code but when it did I got it fixed and all was good. Car would shut off while I was driving. Every light that's not supposed to go off went off lol. Was a nightmare.

    My e46 330i holds gears on hilly terrain. Quite sure this normal. Accelerometers associated with traction control sensing the angle or steepness of the road and not wanting the car to shift into a gear that would lug the engine. Jerky change has got me though.

    Yeah same problem on mine... changed valve body seals and solinoids also did the webo on the driveshaft

    Shelly....the BMW dealership here in Sterling Virginia refused to acknowledge the problem simply stating that they couldn't replicate it in the shop....I explained to them that the car had to have been driven for a while and that it also only happens on hilly terrain.....long story short....I ended up sending emails to BMW 's complaint department....heard nothing back....ended up trading the car in 500 miles from being out of warranty....really sucked...but I wasn't going to keep a car that was a ticking time bomb.....New transmission would have been about $7K.....

      same exact issue verbatim that you described. I love this car but I have a few days left to either keep it or take it back. serious dilemma!!! but you got it right, you have to drive it for awhile before it acts up. .. turns out the high revving of the engine going up my hill has a name, adaptive learning. The transmission guy tried to run game on me basically lieing about it to get me to pay for another new trans!!. Thats why always always always get a second third fourth opinion! Turns out thr is nothing wrong at all so find a new mechanic evryone! & always do your homework no matter how tired or frustrated you get because I promise it will be worth it!

    The transmission software has 400 different maps. You likely drive in an area with different grades (hills). Furthermore, the power being created by the engine and your pedal position will prevent an up shift.

      Safwan Zaza you're almost correct ...if this guy have one diffrent size tire it will throw the transmission off especially in the adaptive version . The two tire on the front has to match and rear has too also . Obviously some bmw comes with stagger wheel . They have to match upfront . The two rear can be diffrent from the front but has to be the same side to side.

    I've got a problem with mine - every time it shifts it kicks &if I push gas pedal - I get a delay &poor acceleraton. Also upon start the engine sounds really low(kind of like Subaru's engine).I suspected sparkplugs/coils but changing them didn't fix the issue(even though sparkplugs turned out to be in a real poor shape). Took it to a shop & they told me their scanner caught a bunch of errors related to MAF. Changed MAF and Air Filter - didn't fix the issue. Does anyone know what could cause this?

      Got same issue, Bought New MAF after the computer stated MAF errors and still exact same problems. Dmitriy Moroz just wandered did you ever find out real fault ?

      Not yet. But I'm afraid transmission is going bad after all: a couple of days ago I was going around 80mph then stepped on the gas pedal - rpms jumped to about 5500(engine got really loud as well) but without any acceleration, I immediately removed foot from gas pedal but rpms stayed at 5500 for another 3-4 sec before dropping :/

    Mine kinda does something similar but my automatic transmission light comes on in dash then when u pull over and cut the car off when u crank back up it won't go, it only does this when its cold though. I took it about 8 months ago the mechanic said he couldn't figure it out but he rest something when I got the car back it didn't do it for a while maybe because it was starting to get warm weather (idk) but now all of a sudden it's started again on cold days.... It's very weird to me...

    You might want to change your transmission filter and fluids or you might want to top off your fluids cuz you probably running low or it can be your crankshaft position sensor cuz I know when that go bad you going to have other code pop up that can cause other issues not necessarily that your transmission is bad by that sensor it was seems like it is so tell me three things

      @@mlani4228 it could be either your crankshaft position sensor that's one II you can be either low on fluids the third one either you have to replace your transmission mechatronic but you can also check and see if you have a oil leak if you do look on the passenger side in the back of the transmission you can disconnect that harness and make sure no oil didn't get there cuz sometimes that can bring a bad connection and your transmission will act up

      If your car has high mileage please do not do a transmission flush because you will ruin the transmission you have to check and see if you low on fluid and the only way to check that you have to Jack the car up take the shield off and it's a Ally bolt on the passenger side on the transmission

      The three things is either it's low on fluid your crank position sensor or change the filter and top off the transmission fluid do not do a transmission flush especially if you have high mileage cuz that's you do you going to damage it

    What about when you go above 20 mph these cars can reset your adaptations and relearn how you drive . You didn’t exceed over 20 mph from the looks of the video

    Have a 1997 328i convertible that has a noise which seems to be coming from the front of the car when I first start driving it. At the beginning of the day, I drive it approximately 2 miles to the same location. The noise occurs then. Noise is like something is dragging or like I am riding on a rough road but it is not coming from either of those sources. Then, after 20 minutes, I get back in the car and drive it and it is fine the rest of the day. Took it to a mechanic and he diagnosed transmission problems, changed the transmission fluid and thought it might help. It is still doing the same thing. This happens every day for the past month. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Peg Redding i have a 96 328i convertible as well. The noise your hearing....I have it as well. Had for the past 5 yrs. Only shows up like you said on start up. After a few minutes it does go away. Hard to pin point the sound. Sounds like its coming from the area from the dash below the radio to the shifter but underneath. Must be part of the transmission. She still runs strong. I put 138k miles on her since buying her with 110k! 238k all together. Must be a common sound with older 3 series.

    Does anyone know about or why when I hit my 550i to the floor while running it just raises the rpm hand and act like it doesn’t want to go and jerks real hard. I had it put on the computer and it read no problems with the transmission or the solenoids. I was told the battery voltage was to low because the car started low and dyed one day. How true is that???

    What you have is a steptronic gearbox, not an "automatic transmission". There is no problem with your gearbox. Shifts are decided by the computer, and that uses sensors like accelerometer and inclinometer as well as torque, engine revs and the pressure of your foot on the accelerator, to decide when to shitft. It is not as simple as ancient american mechanical transmissions.
    To make it work properly you have to think and drive as if you had a manual gearbox with an assistant who changes gears for you. Clearly if you never had a manual gearbox you cannot appreciate the sophistication of the computer assisted shifts.
    It is particularly good when you drive on steep slopes and it shifts down as you reduce speed breaking, exactly as you would do with a manual gearbox. Something that an ancient american mechanical transmission will never be able to do.

      Fair enough...but the entire car should not shudder when it changes gears...no transmission is designed to behave that way. I have had several cars with a manual transmission. I prefer them for this very reason....I am in control and I am not relying on sensors to make the shift decision for me. Figured BMW would have done a better job

      Mauro, My '99 528i pops out of gear at low speed. It still drives but seems to be in third and fourth gear only. All the dashboard lights indicators for P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1 shut themselves off. Is there something I might do about this? Is it a known problem? Everything else seems to work when this happens. Thoughts?

    those foreign are great.. until something mechanical happens.. then ur gonna hafta have deep pockets if ur not under the right warranty.. and even then, the dealerships dont believe u... a shame.

    Hello everybody!
    I have a bmw X3 e83 from 2008 2.0d 177hp.
    I have a problem when engine is hot, when is cold all is ok, when I accelerated in speed 30-60km/h and repeat to 80-90km/h in rest all speed it s ok, my gearbox change speed but I feel a shook, shook who persist when push constant accelerator pedal for example I wish drive with 50km/h but I not to driver 50 because come shook.
    When push hard accelerate pedal is normal gearbox change normal and when I brake, that shock is no longer felt. Repeat gearbox change speed very good but I feel this shook... is very nervous.. What to do in this situation?... I change all oil and filter to gearbox, transfer box, transmision, all oil from ORIGINAL BMW. PLEASE HELP ME !!! I NEED A DOCTOR :))
    I am waiting for an answer, I know that the post is quite old.

      johnny Harris I got. A 2008 535i and sometimes when I press the gas faster that transmission malfunction litgh come on why ? The car runs good the trans doesn’t kick or anything like that ?

    put the geabox in steptronic mode, and play with the shift gear, 1,2,3,4,5 or 6, and coments

    Have u checked ur vanos solieonds or ur spark plugs ? Coils. My car is taking to much rpm as I am driving 30-40 mile per hr if u wanna go to my channel check it out .

    This so Called by BMW Flagship of BMW, having constant problem with Powertrain,All I did was to push the gas, than warning sign comes up, car will not move , shaking real bad and only goes 15 miles and hour, I was in the intersection and saw an other car would not stop i push the gas to accelerate with in seconds warning comes up and stops the car to 15 miles and hour,
    i have taken the car 4 times for the same problem, while it was under warranty they keep re-setting it,now it is out of warranty less than 90 K miles, they are trying to charge over $2,800 dollars for the repairs,. this cars are faulty and they should be recalled World wide, there are 730 complains in the web from every person bought BMW. Car they sell over $100.000 dollars will not last more than Toyota. it is a shame and BW should be a shame priding themselves about their cars ,especially their Flagship 750. Do not waste your money on these cars, it is a Hype, ,only BMW is worth anything is 3 series, inline 6 are reliable other than that, they are all lemon as far as I am concern.

      ma ta you're right . I had a 2008 e90 and occasionally it'll have the please visit workshop driving is no longer safe . It had a icon of a car on the ramp. When this happens all the lights come on ? And there's a siren and buzzer.

    That’s why Auto transmission suck to many problems I would have got the manual transmission u wind not even have a single problem.

      Thats not true. If you dont care about it.. this will happen.
      Oil change plus filter every 60k km... they dont do it ... so after 150k km tranny gets bitchy

    Woke up this morning, got in my 2008 BMW 750 Li and the R N D P indicator on my vehicle are blinking as soon as I turn the ignition on. The vehicle starts up just fine but displays the message " Transmission fault...Drive moderately " on the dash board and on the navigation screen it says "The fault may be resolved by restarting " THE CAR WON'T SHIFT, NOT TO REVERSE OR TO DRIVE. ANY IDEAS ???????

      Gear box oil service needed and make sure it is oem stuff check if GM BOX OR ZF! And use proper oil… zf wise etc just done mine as same as you guys!

      Viren Patel mine like shakes when im at 20-25mph and 1500-2000 rpm. When i first start to accelerate. My friend thinks its a torque converter but im not sure what it could be

    there is not problem, because the inclinometers, chech the grade of car for shift , and put the best gear,

    This is a GM transmission.....made in France. GM has two US plants that make the same tranny for Cadillac's and a few others.
