They have a whole list of issues the cars will initially be shipping with, including no CarPlay, missing safety features, and considerable phantom drain. This car should not be shipping in this state, they should’ve spent more time making it complete before shipping to people paying full price for an $80k SUV.
I feel the same way, I know VAG is delaying the new Macan EV and Q6 because of software related problems too but I feel like the end customer will be much more satisfied even if it means a longer wait time
Volvo is coming into the EV market as everyone else is preparing to leave. Volvo can’t even make a reliable petro vehicle and they’re trying to convince the consumers to buy the unproven EV?
I disagree. For the people whom this is an issue, they have the option to not buy it or wait until those features are enabled. The rest of the buyers who are okay with not having everything enabled right away do so in exchange for early access. Some people would rather have an incomplete car than no car at all, and at least for those earliest adopters, this practice will appeal to them. I see no problem with that.

It's simply obeisance to the industries migration to buttonless interiors. The window switches having front/rear toggle rather than discrete switches for each window is just silly and, yet, Volvo just did it here on a $100,000 luxury (or near luxury or premium) vehicle. The sins of ergonomics hidden in the big center screen are chilling just based on the reviews I've seen. One reviewer said you almost need a copilot to run this thing. And I don't really think it's a "cost issue". What they're saving must be a pittance compared to what they are charging. Some customers hate it and some demand it and it looks like the latter are currently winning the automotive interface war.
To me a glass roof with no shade is a dystopian nightmare that I want no part of. Some people just like old cars. If you never crash them it doesn't really matter. Poor frontal offset score, I'd guess, 12 years ago the impact standards were way lower. Modern cars are safety cells.

I have a reservation for this but I’m probably going to cancel it in favor of the 2025.5 XC90! Something that I know will be more reliable! I’ll give Volvo a few yrs to work out the kinks first.
EVs are much more reliable overall. A gas engine has over 2000 parts, while an electric motor has about 30. So many things can go wrong with an ICE vehicle. Plus you have to pay a lot more for the fuel, oil changes / maintenance. So I'd buy the EX90 if reliability is what you want.

What's the point behind speakers in the headrest? The car already has too many speakers, and a big bumping amp. When you have speakers right next to your ears, it makes it even more impossible to hear each other speaking AND it completely undermines the imaging you were getting from speakers positioned into the corners of the car. Does the car let you turn off all the other speakers and just play to one or two headrests? If not, it's just excessive.
They can direct phone conversations to a particular headrest, at least on other cars with them. In my opinion, it is too much complexity for the reward. I'll take some hard buttons and leave the headrest speaker option off the menu.
How is the throttle & brake feeling? The current 2016-2024 XC90 are not confidence inspiring or exact feeling. The gas pedal is a bit numb feeling and the brake pedal is the same. Getting the Polestar performance program does help the feeling a bit but it's still not good.
It is a nice looking car, but this is why I cancelled my reservation. With the price increase, why am I waiting for these features plus the delays in production and delays in features? I think I would still consider this but I am waiting for preliminary Lucid Gravity reviews.
What is the advantage of the glass roof BESIDES design? Seems like it will only let heat in especially without a shade. Is the glass heavier than a regular roof? I like a sunroof but glass roof seems like a waste
Not really. A glass roof is actually more complex for design and manufacturing. Not only do you have to seal and install a glass panel instead of the steel stamping that has to be there anyway just not having a hole in it. Also, you have to account for the loss in roof strength which means more complex designs for side impact strength.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide The purported idea (seen years ago) was that it makes assembly easier, as the hole in the top gives access to whatever needs to get in there. Of course there are tradeoffs with this, but small gains in assembly efficiencies plus the benefit of extra headroom and better styling seem to make it a good choice, especially if every vehicle you assemble is the same.
@@zbecknell I’d like to see that idea. Every manufacturing video I’ve seen they go through the holes where the doors go which makes sense too because all the parts are at person level instead of hanging over the car. Its kinda absurd how much more combined legroom is in the EV9 and headrow in the third row for the EV9 over this EX90. I had they made the hood a couple inches shorter and really wished the extra length was put into the wheelbase. The normal XC90 was fine for a car being 195 inches and a long hood. But with an EV spave could be utilized so much better. Its still extremely nice and id rather have it over like a 2.0T GLE or even the current XC90 T5/6 engines. But no doubt they could have done a bit more. Aside from the smaller battery, i think id rather have the EV9.
A shame it's not built on a purpose-built EV platform. We own an XC90 and was looking forward to buying the EX90 but we will instead be getting a Rivian R1S. The Rivian offers better performance, technology, software, and more space. Love that with the Rivian you can have 360 view and the rear camera displayed at the same time and with such a long front end, the EX90 offers no useful frunk, unlike the Rivian. We use the frunk-space all the time on road trips with our other vehicle which is an EV. Also the 4.7s 0-60 is disappointing when the Rivian reaches 60 in half the time and even the Volvo EX30 offers much better performance. You need to provide the manufacture of battery they are using for any EV now on. In Korea, Chinese made battery was installed in the EQE and it started fire while car was parked - not charging. Also, depends on the origin of Battery you may not qualify for the EV rebate. Please note that owner of Volvo car is not Sweden, but it is Chinese company. Also, please provide where this particular Volvo is manufactured. This car may come from China, not Sweden. I don't want to buy Made in China Volvo.
It's made in the USA and it really doesn't matter where the car is made. The made in China Volvos are better built than the made in Sweden Volvos. Also, the owner of Volvo is Chinese but they aren't the ones responsible for the content in the car (designed and engineered in Sweden and this particular one has a Volvo platform, SPA2 where the EX30 has the SEA platform from Geely--that is incidently, head engineerd by a Swede). They finance Volvo, they don't define Volvo cars. Volvo cars location is in Sweden and has been expanded and modernized. So Volvo is very much still a Swedish manufacturer. Also, this is a European feeling car. Alex said this a few times in the video saying it felt almost Germanic.

For a brand that's so focused on safety, it's a shame to see the needlessly complicated controls (window switches, seat controls). Stuff like that makes it hard to recommend to safety-obsessed normies who tend to be their target audience.
Always surprised all the manufactures just refuse to put the Tesla plug on their car. It's like if callphone companies insist on keeping Micro-USB port while all the cables are USB-C Geely needs to bring Volvo engineering to China. Europe is falling behind Korea too much
Tesla are the ones preventing companies from adopting the new plug... Other companies need to gain access to their network but tesla havent opened their network yet (Except Ford and Rivian)
volvo went from having some of the best interiors in the industry to arguably the most bland in the industry, only Tesla is arguably more bland. the minimalist interiors are garbage.
In other words, Volvo nailed their ultimate spec once again. When your ultimate corporate brag is "We pioneered 3-point seatbelts.", you cannot expect scorched tire tracks on the pavement.
Nobody “needs” anything more than basic transportation. However, that is simply not reality. People buy what they want and they pretend that what they want is what they need. Volvo infotainment is what kept us away from buy one and putting a cheap looking iPad look line tablet in the middle is just GAWD awful design.
Vertically big infotainment screens are very annoying driving at night.
Volvo needs to do better, a lot better, for over $90k price tag vehicles. That Infotainment…argh!!!
👍

Volvo is my pick hands down, why ?
4,850 pounds
Using this power, the Volvo EX90 has an estimated maximum towing capacity of 4,850 pounds when properly equipped, while the Tesla Model Y can tow up to 3,500 pounds, but only when the available tow hitch is added to the model. That means you'll only unlock this capability with an additional purchase.
@@benjaminsmith2287 "The EV battery plan of Volvo became apparent in June 2021 when the Swedish auto giant announced a partnership with Northvolt to produce batteries for all-electric future cars."
"Volvo Cars has now reached an agreement with its two global battery suppliers, CATL of China and LG Chem of South Korea, and leading global blockchain technology firms to implement traceability of cobalt, starting this year."
Your information is not quite up to date.
In Asia, even Tesla uses Chinese made batteries and caught fire. MB EQE with Chinese battery caught fire.
Finally, if you buy car with Chinese battery, you will not qualify for the EV rebate. Therefore, it will be good idea to reveal there your battery is made.
"Just this month, the U.S. Government clarified that all vehicles sold with batteries manufactured in or made of critical minerals mined from China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran will be excluded from the $7,500 Section 30D Clean Vehicle Tax Credit under the Inflation Reduction Act (“IRA”)."
Do we really need something so powerful with such a large battery to have a safety oriented family hauler.
I'll assume that was not rhetorical. NO!
The “gauge cluster” looks like it was ripped out of an ID4

What qualifies a "flagship"?
It's a naval term.
Another huge and expensive MumVee.
first. love the vids alex. do you think those fancy headlights will last? or end up being a nightmare when they decide to stop opening?
It's just a simple motor. I'd really hope after decades of motors being around that this headlight won't fail after 20 years
Garbage brands like Volvo are lease-only. Yes, the headlights will fail, but so will everything else on this vehicle after three years.
@@aliendroneservices6621 The volvo EX40 has one of the highest qualtiy ratings in europe...
Flagship? It’s got a terrible center screen that controls everything like it’s a pos Tesla. Guess that’s what this Chinese car was trying to imitate in a Volvo outfit. It’s embarrassing
Out the gate I hate the look. I loved the XC90 design. This looks really really bad. But it’s a cool car
WTH would Volvo copy VW on the window switches?! That's not a good move Volvo.
Volvo EM 90 please. It's better than Toyota Alphard And Lexus LM 350
overpriced ev mobile Crematorium from China, lol lmao
For a brand that's so focused on safety, it's a shame to see the needlessly complicated controls (window switches, seat controls). Stuff like that makes it hard to recommend to safety-obsessed normies who tend to be their target audience.
Looks like BYD’s big influence ! Go China !
Geely loves those guys!
Always surprised all the manufactures just refuse to put the Tesla plug on their car. It's like if callphone companies insist on keeping Micro-USB port while all the cables are USB-C
Geely needs to bring Volvo engineering to China. Europe is falling behind Korea too much
Tesla are the ones preventing companies from adopting the new plug... Other companies need to gain access to their network but tesla havent opened their network yet (Except Ford and Rivian)
Like Apple holding onto Firewire through two ice ages.
volvo went from having some of the best interiors in the industry to arguably the most bland in the industry, only Tesla is arguably more bland. the minimalist interiors are garbage.
no sc access bad, ongoing software issues on many models bad. no tax credit bad. pathetic.
It literally says it will have sc access?
Back to the drawing board, Volvo. Booooooooring.
Lolol absolutely!
Thanks for the constructive criticism. I would love you as a co-worker and I’m sure you are destined for great things.
In other words, Volvo nailed their ultimate spec once again. When your ultimate corporate brag is "We pioneered 3-point seatbelts.", you cannot expect scorched tire tracks on the pavement.
Nobody needs this. Kia electric SUV is not selling. Hardly any storage inside. Yes, looks great but No thanks.
Nobody “needs” anything more than basic transportation. However, that is simply not reality. People buy what they want and they pretend that what they want is what they need. I suspect there will be enough people that want this to make it worth Volvo’s while. EV’s do have a pricing problem, but so do Porsches and yet they do just fine.
Kia evs are selling incredibly well..lol. you may not need it so...of course you distort...reality?
@@chemicalhap I don't see any ev9s. If I do, its one per week or two. Hybrids are selling, not evs. Socialist's ev movement died. There is still lack of infostructure. Power grid can not handle it.
