Interesting backstory on this episode. The dragon on the Welsh flag isn’t St Georges’ dragon - it’s reckoned to originate from the standards of auxiliary units of the Roman army. The England teams’ badge is usually referred to as “three lions”, though heraldically they’re leopards.
With regard to the establishment of “Y Wladfa” (“the colony”) in Patagonia, the whole point was to get away from the influence of the English, and the Argentine government offered them 100 square miles in the Chubut valley, in return for them settling the land for Argentina (later on a secondary settlement was set up in the Andes, which resulted in the resolution of a border dispute with Chile in Argentina’s favour). The fact that Britain had set up in the Falklands about 35 years earlier was just a coincidence. All the Wrexham scarves at the Accrington match were thanks to United paying to have one put on each seat - looked good, didn’t it? What with Rob coming from Philadelphia, I was a little surprised that they didn’t mention that an earlier attempt to preserve Welsh culture was in Pennsylvania, which was originally going to be called “New Wales” - there are quite a lot of places in the “Welsh Tract” of Pennsylvania with Welsh names (though the pronunciation has drifted over the centuries!), but Welsh people tend to assimilate easily in English-speaking environments, so the failure of the effort in Pennsylvania encouraged them to try again somewhere a long way from the English. However, United and the club have produced a half-hour documentary called “ReUnited - A Homecoming Story” showing the Patagonians’ story in more detail which I believe is on United’ planes’ entertainment systems (Jacob Mendy lived in Spain for 13 years from 6 years old, so he speaks Spanish, which helped!). It’s also on RUclips here: ruclips.net/video/GX378PA4HQ0/видео.htmlsi=IHzGORdNAC8aM8qh
Thanks for sharing all the history 😀
Another great reaction video from you. Thanks.
I appreciate that
Thank you for another great reaction episode. I tried to link this but youtube seemed to delete it so you can look it up 'ReUnited - A Homecoming Story' this is a more complete version of the Patagonian story.
Thanks for the help
Also in case you did not know United released an extended cut for the Patagonians which was 30 minutes long with more material to give you an idea of each of the people and their backgrounds. I found it on RUclips before I watched this episode.
Thank you 😊
You might be wondering why the name Patagonia is used but Argentina is not. The UK and Argentina are not on good terms because of The Falkland Isles.
That makes sense
As a grandchild of Welsh people man this really made me emotional.
I bet.
England has 3 lions
The Welsh dragon, the Ddraig y goch come from a legend of Merlyn who discovered two dragons fighting under a kings castle tower which was unsteady one red one white. The red represented the Welsh, the White represented the Saxons (English), Merlyn said leave it alone and the the red will eventually win out.
Wrexham being the oldest Welsh team use it as their main name.
@@Jon_FMOnly relatively recently - until 2001 the team was known as “The Robins”.
Hello from Wales The red dragon originates from the welsh prince cadwaladr as far back as the 7th century
Thanks Gareth 😊
I knew Danyelle would appreciate Ollie in his undies at the beginning of the episode! 😆 Fun fact: This is probably the 5th time we've seen Ollie in his undies, but maybe the first time in the show. The others were for various media articles and club photographers. He's not shy! lol
Yeah, her face lit up. 😆
Yes I did enjoy that quick look at Ollie in a state of undress. Hes lovely.
I hit the like 3 times just to make sure :)
Brits 3 Lions not dragons
Oh, that's funny. Sorry I messed it up.
I knew humphrey was posh but bloody hell.
I didnt know he was "ye i roomed with royalty at school" posh.
He hides it well.
Funny right?
@@TouchyReactions ye "and he's Rob and Ryan's little bitch", has me laughing mate.
Great work. Keep up the good content.
Much love from northwest England.
@@NeilLewis77 thanks Neil
So the Welsh flag we see today didn’t exist till 1953, the same year as the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. I spend so many hours studying Welsh history. The story of Prince Madoc and Rhidyr travelling from North Wales in 1172 and landing in Mobile Bay Alabama, integrating with Native American Indian tribes to the point where when Lewis and Clarke were discovering the America’s they fell foul to a tribe of Indians, only that one of the group was from Wales and could understand the natives as they spoke Welsh. It’s good to know now, before the Smithsonian buries all this information. Check out the story of the Brandenburg Stone.
Thanks for sharing 👍
@@TouchyReactions I appreciate it’s difficult to believe but ginger haired native Americans were a thing. Ha ha.
@@MadAl37 we have gingers in our family. Love a good red head.
@@danyellfeeley5822 I’m a sucker for a red head. I’ve married 3. What can I say, I have a wedding cake addiction.
These people who call for the head of Paul Parkinson and then berate the players on social media should have their credentials stripped. Take away their right to see every game if they have season tickets. This is crazy I can't imagine giving up on a team just because of a bad game or a streak of bad games. It's sports people! It's going to happen.
I agree. Ridiculous
A perfect "Hattrick" score a goal with left foot ,right foot & header.
He's a beast
I'm surprised they didn't go in to the near disaster when the Gambian team almost died in a plane on a runway.
What? That's wild. What happened?
@@TouchyReactions A delay in take off meant they were sealed in the plane without the air being refreshed, so they started getting dizzy and passing out. Luckily the problem was discovered and they all quickly recovered.
@@alpine_newt wow. Scary.
The amount they _don't_ include, is all to do with the amount of content they _can_ include, per episode due to time constraints! If it was an old fashioned 'cutting room' - I bet you'd be knee deep in footage that couldn't include.
@@alpine_newt wow thats crazy.
Hey. I just saw your reaction to Dermot Kennedy and i beg you to make more reactions to him❤
He's very talented
