Hi Jason, I just wanted to say that I'm really happy for you that you got the tx-1!! You have great videos and I like your sense of humour. I'm from Croatia but I have friends in California and I am going to San Francisco this summer so maybe we can shoot few rolls one day if you want! Have fun with the new camera!
If you want to shoot film panorama without breaking the bank, there are some decent point and shoot cameras that offer a panoramic mode. I've taken them to the Sierras and have gotten some pretty decent shots that I would have with my 35mm of medium format cameras.
@@ReimannPembroke Pretty much any medium format camera can be adapted. You either need to have the necessary adapter 3d printed, or you just need to buy them. They are available in some regions. There are plenty of videos on RUclips explaining the process.
I think the flock of birds position in frame is perfect imo I even noticed that from right to left each birds wing flap after one another makes a perfect flying cycle wow
These are all local spots for me. Really cool to see you shoot here. All good stuff. You're very inspiring. And your commentary... lmao. Love your work.
Pigeon Point light house is one of my favorite places ive ever been. the owner of the hostel grew up in utah and knew my aunt. thank you for bringing back special memories
Great video, makes me wish I could go on a road trip again with friends. Or have friends for that matter. What a productive trip, you shot it all. Selling Baxter when you got home to pay for all that film was sad. Oh sorry that didn't happen. My fridge full of film is crying right now, "let me out"!
@21:06 is probably my favorite guitar shop in the (sort of) Bay Area (The Tall Toad, Petaluma, CA). I was awe stuck to see it pop up out of no where in this video.
The TX-1 is my ultimate "can't justify it in any way, I wouldn't use it for work, my wife would kill me if I spent a mortgage payment on a camera" camera. God, I want one so bad.
1:49 I can't believe you just kind of brush past some of the images like this. I absolutely love the greens and whites in this one. Also, as others have said, its really appreciated how this video is formatted in such a way that its highly useful for newcomers to photography like myself. Your deadpan humor and relaxed style is iconic ❤
Here in DC there was a camera store (Penn Camera) that had a Hasselblad X-Pan for rent, which I did a couple times. When they had their closing sale I went looking to buy it, but somebody made a blanket offer for all their rental gear and I had a big sad.
I just want to let you know that I really enjoy watching your videos. I have been kind of ill and feeling down during the last year and I always look forward to seeing your videos. I can only imagine how much work it is to put a video like this together, but please know that I really appreciate you and your friends for filming these outings.
Your videos have really chilled my mind (or maybe it's just numbness from the incessant lo-fi Epidemic drone). I can now fall asleep in seconds (of your videos beginning!!!). Cheers dude!
You don’t need it man. Yes film is cool, retro and fun, BUT, film is damn expensive, laborious, and hard work. I know, I’ve shot film for over 35 years, from way back in the 80’s to recently. Top end film cameras are a rip of, costing over 2K, for technology that’s dead and buried, only for the hipster look that’s in demand, therefore the high prices. It’s worth doing if it’s a business and you’re offering a different option, i.e, events on film, OR, you’ve got a shit load of wonga, and if you haven’t, then it helps to have rich parents. You’d be better off investing in a decent digital camera and quality glass. Invest that money and do courses, learn off camera flash photography. People underestimate flash photography. It’s amazing what you can do with flash, even in bright mid day sun light. Channels like this one are cool, they go out and do what most of us can’t do, therefore, giving us something to dream about, but, like I said before, it’s for those people who have loads of disposable cash or are funded to do anything they want without working for it by mummy and daddy.
This singular video has more photography gold than the entire portfolios of all the viral RUclips "photographers" ("influencers") plastering my feed. It's not the "film" look, it's not the TX-1 format, it's the photographer. Photography is easy. Good photography isn't. Jason is one of the greats, pure and simple.
Those chalk cliffs remind me of Flamborough Head in Yorkshire, if you're ever unfortunate enough to be in the UK it's a reccommended seaside photo spot
If you ever find your way out to Los Osos, or Guadalupe look for the elven dwarf oak forest in Los osos, and the Oso Floco Dunes in Guadalupe, also, really good tacos and burritos in Guadalupe. Great little town.
14:43 I think this mindset could be why color negative films like Pro 400H are disappearing while B&W is still thriving. In the words of Timothy Roper: "There's a reason that Acros was resurrected and 400H was discontinued, and while many, many people will disagree, I think it's because: color film has a lot less to offer than B&W film vs. digital. Mostly because not only are there many different B&W film stocks, but there are many B&W developers and ways to use them. Color is more "industrialized," with few options other than the standard machines for developing (but I know, there are home kits, which I have used). Most people shooting film today are doing so for creative/artistic reasons, and B&W still offers a lot of creative freedom, and will continue to do so. Color, not so much." (Taken from the comments section of a James Madison article about the discontinuation of Pro 400H)
Good stuff. I see your Hopper vibe, especially the pier at 5:00. Love that shot. Pleez, hold the button down for an additional 1000 count on your landscapes. You are leaving color on the table!
The FUJIFILM TX-1 goes for over $3000 in excellent condition to over $5000 in mint. The Hasselblad X-Pan goes for $7000 to $8000. I just bought a Lomography Sprocket Rocket for less than $100. I know, I know.... it's definitely not the same but I really can't justify the cost for the novelty of occasionally shooting panoramic photos. The samples photos I've seen are sharp enough with the usual blurry edges which I'm fine with. The 30mm lens it comes with is great and definitely the most expensive lens you can add to those systems so I'm glad it came with that rather than a 45mm.
