🐐😂much love! ❤️
Lab: How overexposed should your images be?
Jason:Yes
9 out of 10 wedding photographers agree
@@Zeoklis best way to mask a shitty venue i guess
I need a grainydays x Kyle McDougall collaboration immediately
grainy mcdougs. new channel. comedy, baxter, landscapes, and canadian accents.
Actually all three of you in the same vid would be very nice to see.
you too Brae and Bryan!
except Kyle lives in the UK now
@@Slamagotchi he's back in Canada...I think.
BOO This brings me back... 22 min later I'm crying... Let's do it again.
Why are all Jason's cameras so expensive?
Hope you got that Pentax fixed. What happened to it?
Stefan Petrmichl why are all cameras expensive now haha
Brent B I actually haven’t gotten it fined. It’s a paperweight. I have one last hope with KEH. but even then.... not looking good 😑
Bad Flashes Thats a bummer dude. Thats a huge fear of mine. I have two RZ bodies in case one poops the bed cause Im scared repairs will be too hard to get
I see grainydays video in me feed, I click. Everything else is secondary.
Honestly my favourite time to be on RUclips is when I see a Grainy Days video
As I was watching this I was trying to think of a creative name like grainydays or bad flashes. Best I could think of was combining f stop and aperture. Faperture. Back to the drawing board I suppose. Great video
The shot of the chair through the door of the abandoned building is absolutely top class!
This is really Amasing to see! ive grown up climbing mountains in the Sierras with my father and family friends, i finished the John Muir Trail climbing Mt Whitney in 2019. After all the 221 miles i completed, and the beautiful scenery ive seen,it never occured to me to shoot any film there. ive been collecting cameras for a little over 3 years and all my childhood nostalgia has been backpacking in the great mountains, this truly made me happy to see one of my favorite photographers strolling around, walking to places that ive been before, and taking incredible photos where i grew up, Thank you
For those who may care, the light leaks on the 120 rolls he mentions are caused by inadequate tension on the paper leader at loading, which allows the initial leader to wrap the spool loosely. In turn this causes the film's diameter on the takeup spool to be too large, extending beyond the light protection of the spool ends. The solution is to put some pressure with your thumb on the new film roll when first winding on the leader, keeping it tight. My Pentax 67 has the same potential problem. Basically, the camera's tension on the film supply spool is inadequate.
hey dude I know you use a lot of humor and self doubt in your videos, but your work is really great and your knowledge is super helpful for others. I hope to see more zines and even a book from you!
Gotta love the strange disposition of the beauty of the Sierras against the decay of human struggle nestled in the nooks and crannies along the highways.
Thanks for these productions. It’s nice to enjoy the journey without being shouted at. More than ever I need this and really appreciate what you’re doing.
I came for the neon signs but enjoyed every thing. Film is magical and alive. Subscribed.
Incredible, your editing, presentation, your humor and your photos very well done. Subscribed to you a while back and its always good content definitely inspire me to get out there. I got a Canon AE1 as a gift the other day got some film cant wait to shoot.
Man, your cinestill shots are the nuts. I’ve always been put off the the red highlights but that pro mist really does the trick. Great video (again), i can’t imagine how long this kind of video takes to put together
Great video man! Some really great shots here. I especially like the hotel sign shots. That one from inside the room and then the Village Motel sign are my favourites, very good pictures.
I must say your channel grew on me and I love your content.
Es ist ja geradezu ein Abenteuer dieses Video anzusehen . . . (und das von einem Fernsehsessel aus).
Jedenfalls . . . Gratulation !
Could those wonderful corner lighting effects be that you load film in a rather cool fashion, in direct sunlight ??
Damn dude. I really love 90 percent of all the pictures you show. Go ahead with this awesome channel. Also love your emotionlessness 😁
So much beautiful nature in US, so perfect for photography. All these shoots makes one wish one lived there.
That beach was literally incredible. I guess i need to go to Lone Pine some day.
Nice work man! Loved the B&W Alabama Hills shots. Looking forward to seeing dedicated Hans Solo dress up shoot. But not on the toilet for obvious reasons.
honestly, i don’t think i’ve seen someone just... takes so many damn good photos, one after another after another. every damn video you just impress me beyond belief
Great picture, awsome storytelling !
You're making film photography look so easy haha
This video only makes me even more depressed that I missed out on visiting California, Utah, and Nevada this year. Thank you. (Seriously amazing pictures this was great!)
With all this over exposing shouldn’t you be called “ungrainy days?”
No, it should be called "compressed to no details in the highlights days".
Absolutely fantastic, every element is perfectly orchestrated and executed!
From the choice of framing and locations to the soundtrack and your dry, lovable wit - it’s a bloody masterpiece!
Gratefully appreciated all over the world brother.
Two faves: Sculpin IPA and that GLORIOUS toilet shot.
Awesome video as always 👍
Thanks for this nice video. This gives me a chance to take a trip down memory lane. I stopped at the place with the old abandonned blue/green/cyan car last year at about the same time. This is so nice to see this random place again, in your video, through your lens ! Keep up the good work.
if you watch any TV you'll see that same abandoned house (16:20) in a commercial for some real estate company....it's an older picture of the house, with much of the green roofing still on top. I took a picture of that same house back in 2010 or 2011and it's hanging on my wall. The house is fading fast when compared to a few years ago, a natural process.
Enjoying your videos.
Good god, I need to get back out west. Only been to LA twice and did an eight day road trip through Colorado, but the variety in the landscape is faaaabulous!
Great video and presentation. A little envious of your gear.
Always a good day when you show up with your cheery, dulcet tones, giving me enormous enthusiasm for all things film photography. The joy is almost overwhelming. 😄👌🏼
My life feels a little better every time one of these videos drop
What a great video Man you inspired me to load my Canon Film Camera and go out into the wilderness to shoot some Analog BNW...
Can't believe you didn't pick up that Advantix. APS means Awesome Photo System. Or Awful Photo System. Something like that ... Love the shot from the hotel room door at night.
Nice photo-trip-with-friend.
I didn't know that Portra 400 worked well at daylight... 🔝
Thoroughly inspiring video and amazing shots you took. Thank you! Oh and your humour is appreciated :)
I think these are some great photo's. I don't know memories, remember.
sierra mountains are so beatiful.✨✨✨
A Shiner at 7:19! Awesome. Seriously I enjoy your series after now seeing a few episodes. Your blend 'of not in a rush' slightly cynical but charming narrative in stand-up comic style, range of beautiful country (this one maybe takes the cake) and abandoned buildings for subjects continues to intrigue as well as being clearly in the do film or die culture is fabulous! Keep up the great work and making pictures Jason!
Loved that 80s retro almost stranger things inspired song of Lady Soul by the temptations that started at 19:10
Truly stunning!
Jason, you should try developing your own film. I recently started developing ilford hp5+, and I was suprised how easy that is. Such a joy to do it yourself, go for it!
I watch your videos all the time and even rewatch bc the mood and humor
It's automatically a great day when I see a video uploaded
Only Jason would have the brilliant idea of opening a video with a toilet (I was actually sitting on one while watching, of course) Man you sure got a whole pile of great shots! I'm gonna go subscribe to Caleb's channel and check out his stuff 😁
Hey, it's you!
the pictures b&w is the best for me thanks you are the best ! :)
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for making this quarantine so much more cooler (or warmer, wherever you are in this ever changing world). Lovin’ your channel even more-video after video. Stay safe!
0:09 is just too good
My second time watching this video, very impressive. Great work.
Really makes me miss camping and summer skiing at Mammoth.
4:40 Alabama Hills looks surprisingly like The Adobe Flats from the classic movie Bad Day at Black Rock
My favorite shot is the toilet one, the colors and composition look really cool
I found mixing spools from different film brands in the Mamiya 7 sometimes contributed to the light leak issue. I mean using a Fuji spool to take up Kodak film or vice versa (or it could be changing film in direct sunlight). Also, I was very disappointed you didn’t shoot the abandoned buildings portion with cold neg film. 😢 but I’m jealous of the Arca Cube on your tripod.
Fantastic video and photography. And not to mention you’re funny as crap! I always look forward to your videos man!
i love your channel dude! I bought the 105 2.4 for my pentax 6x7 so i can speak to you jjjajaj. Regards from Chile!
Dude just a few mins in and you’re the bomb
whole lot of really rad shots in this one. dope music too. I shot XP2 for the first time recently and it kiiiinda bangs. gonna be getting more pretty soon.
After watching a lot of videos on your channel i gotta say, you really knocked it out of the park on that trip. Almost every shot shown is nice, most of the landscape ones are especially nice. Location helps i guess, but you were on fire too.
Loved the video. You shot so many different rolls but they all fit the location well
All that film processing must’ve cost you a grand!
He has a Mamiya 7, lab costs shouldn't be an issue haha.
Honestly I think this is the greatest set of photos you have ever produced and would buy the book if you ever were to make one. Then yet again I would give my right knee, left testicle and all my dignity to shoot in those locations, so probably more the locations than your hard work I appreciate.
I love your channel. You’re hilarious and informative at the same time!
That shot of the toilet is 💯 your best work.
This is way in the future, now, but you breezed by the photo at 14:46 without mentioning that it's one of your strongest of all time. It's perfect and I would like to buy a print, please.
honestly completely underrated channel, glad to find it as i just got my first film camera a pentax me super for 18$ believe it or not and i got it from an antique store
I actually spent a bit of time in Lone Pine about ten years ago. Not sure if the restaurant Seasons is there, but the steak (any everything) is amazing.
Such a awesome looking trip!
"Lets get down to business. To defeat the Huns" HAHAHAHAHA
Bro i really enjoy watching you having fun shooting: )
NGL that "not that impressive" shot (14:32) was probably my favorite.
Phil Knall I was thinking
the same
@@zairrewright4131 hah great minds think alike dude
Yeah the photos were nice and all...but that Mulan reference 😍
Great video! So atmospheric! ❤️
yeah man love it man, no other words needed 😍
So when are we getting that ten questions video with Matt Day?
Best video yet ! Great job dude 🙌🏾
Awesome video, awesome trip and awesome shots!
that motel sign through the door is excellenttt
I usually meter Ektachrome at 50iso. It’s more of an 80iso film and handles over exposure better than other slide films.
"HAHAHA....I swear to Zeus, Ares,, Poseidon, Matt Day.."
I'm sure someone else has probably already mentioned it, but that remix of Heal from Ico made my day. Starts at about 5:10
do you know what its called?
I’m so sorry, I don’t. There are lots of other remixes of Heal out there (people love Ico) but they’re all much more obvious than this.
3:12 love that photo omg😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love the longer videos. For clarification, when you say "HP5 rated at 800" did you just set your meter to 800 and have the rolls developed at 400, or did you have them pushed a stop?
Seconded
the First one
You just tell your meter you have an extra stop where you really don’t, you develop it at box speed so that it’s underexposed by one stop
Koen van der Kam HP5 always looks rather flat to me...
Awesome trip. can you make a video on how you edit your photos?
2:04 if you really want more grainy contrast, try shooting Delta 400 at 800 with an orange or red filter. It looks gorgeous and is more gritty than HP5.
As for your film lab, you might want to give North Coast Photo in Carlsbad a try! They're real quick, have good prices, and make excellent scans. The Portra 400 scans you got look very washed out.
This place looks amazing.
My favorite mirrorless camera is a Mamiya 7II. Otherwise my SLR of choice is an RZ67.
I can't believe there were 7 ads in this video. Watching it was like going through the 7 rings of hell. Great job 👌
Idk what I liked better, the lone geology joke or that sweet sweet 2nd gen 4runner
Love this adventure
That was very groovy. Super groovy shots too.
The weather was perfect!
Too funny! Makes me want to get out of the house and take photos. Hold it, no!
dude watching your videos on zoomed to fill mode on an iphone is so comforting
That arca tripod head 😳 dope video as always
"Blew it up" that'll earn yourself a like.
XP2 looks nice. I’ll have to try that
