  • Here is how Jaycen Joshua uses the NLS Buss plugin by Waves Audio to add analog warmth to his drums during mixing. Apply this technique in Pro Tools, FL Studio, Ableton, Cubase, Logic Pro or any other DAW.

    Excellent explanation better if the inserts are in post fader, Joshua would be happy, only if you have to use the volume automations. However you could emulate the same technique with just one plugin and save time i.e. The God of Particle created to meet Joshua's needs.

    QUICK QUESTION!!! What if your drums are already in mono, Would you still have to pan them still?
    I appreciate the video 👏🏾👏🏾

    • @SandPineAudio
      @SandPineAudio 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, because you input a mono signal, but the left and right channels of the emulated unit sounds slightly different in term of freq response and harmonics content : so you wil have a slight different version of your sound in the r and l channel. This is what makes analog unit sounds "3D". It adds side signal even with a mono input. Moreover, each 2 channels of the 3 consoles emulated in NLS have their own flavors and differences, just use your ear to pick the right one.

    Interesting! Question… how do you assign the individual kick, snare, etc. to the corresponding nls buss?

    • @mixwithjerry
      @mixwithjerry  6 месяцев назад +1

      He doesn't assign individual sounds to them. He groups the drums together and has these 8 NLS buss plugins stacked in a row on the drum buss so that the drums run through them together. When level matching you should feel the weight that it adds. He says this gives him that SSL board feel for his drums that he's missing when mixing in the box with plugins.

  • @joshd265

    So he's using essentially 8 saturation plugins in series on the drum bus? I'm confused why he needs 8?

    • @Unspeakablemoron
      @Unspeakablemoron 7 месяцев назад

      The saturation on this technique is almost none existing you can’t really hear it, the effect that we’re trying to achieve is that of a board simulation meaning you are emulating a analog mixing board such a j or 9k this technique would add weight and and make your sound a whole lot fatter. It’s also good to mention that is usually added in parallel which is better for a psychoacoustic effect.

    • @joshd265
      @joshd265 7 месяцев назад

      @@Unspeakablemoron but the effect of saturating individual channels across an entire board is much different (more desirable) than throwing 8 saturation stages on a single bus signal. I'm confused what his reasoning is behind this.
