Elina, thank you for these videos. They really feel like a safe space in the midst of turbulent times and personal struggles. Never forget how gifted you are and how much your videos mean to so many of us. Thank you
As a film afficionado, I can definitely appreciate your steadily increasing craft at the art of Making Videos. Your talent at this is significant. As a long distance hiker, I can appreciate all the touches that help the viewer appreciate not necessarily the mundane minutiae of doing a long trail- there are plenty of videos doing that- but the overall feel of what it's like to experience this as you pass through it. And as a person old enough to be your dad, I appreciate the anxiety and doubts you're feeling. You express them as "what am I going to do after the trail", but the whole "oh shit, my whole life is ahead of me, YIKES!!" feeling has been around forever. You'd be experiencing it even if you weren't hiking, and doubly so in our current world situation. Think of the hike as something that allows you to hit PAUSE on the accelerating rush of time, something that gives you the ability to slow the playback speed a bit and look and things more analytically before you make your ultimate decision. And the great thing is... whatever you decide to start doing, it's OK if you make the wrong decision because you can always change your course afterward. And the trails will always be there if you need to hit pause again. Everything's going to be OK, and whatever you decide to do, you're going to do it well. =)
I love that you’re not afraid to show just how fucking hard backpacking can be physically, mentally, and emotionally. I don’t backpack because it’s easy. I do it because it’s difficult, sometimes shitty and scary, but I always come out better for it. Like Nicholas in the video said, it creates self-confidence, keeps you in the moment. Kudos. Loving this series.
Love love love the few minutes with the choral and the stunning shots of nature’s beauty right in the beginning (second theme). Surely you combined them on purpose? Everything about your movies is so purposeful. Even the pauses in the sentences and the moment your eyelids go down exactly in sync with the rhythm of the music. Im in love, more than before.
Aww man. Been waiting for this one. Welly was home for 7 years, left to travel 4 months ago. Your shots of it are beautiful, and really salient of life there. Makes me feel like I was just there. Thats some good homesickness fuel. Also don't think that flight of the conchords reference just slipped by unnoticed haha.
This is just feels and emotions and experiencing your first love all over again. The cathedral music and church stay is such a duality. Mother Nature is our only religion. Also, F-- you’re talented, mate!
Love this episode ! Excellent expression of moods from Mountains to the City - "Inner city life, inner city pressure" = Truth there for sure. Enjoying each episode more and more - thanks for sharing your journey its magical :)
Hi Elina. I’ve started hiking because of you (more like “thanks to you”). I’m more of a city girl but I feel like I’ve discovered a part of myself in the nature. I did parts of the West Highlands Way this summer - on my own, all thanks to you. I now dream of endless landscape, forests and mountains.. My dream is to do the Te Araroa one day. Thank you!
Wow! I just stumbled upon your vids and I'm super impressed. Your story telling, cinematography, editing, music selection, sound design. It's all on point. Well done!
Doesn’t seem possible but these just keep getting better and better. Your storytelling is so awesome. I can’t wait for the next one but will be sad when this series is done. So not TOO fast.
You are so talented! Love the music and Transitions. When the violin starts playing at 3:40 in the rain forest makes me feel some type of way! Would you be willing to share some of the artist names? From the soundtrack please
I always save these videos to watch when I need to feel good. I haven't even started it yet, but mad props for uploading in 4k; your extra long upload time is much appreciated and my enjoyment is multiplied 🙌
... Amazing video .... I Love your style of production ,, so much beauty and wonder ... Thank You So Much for doing what you do ..... Stay Safe and God Bless .....
Many Thanks, this was as always just incredible with great storytelling and imaging. Really shows how long distance hiking really gets to you, so many emotions.
I can't imagine doing Te Araroa while simultaneously setting up shots. Major props 💪🏼. Now to watch your other stuff haha this randomly turned up in my recommended which was a pleasant surprise.
Another lovely slice of the pie. Thank you!! I’m hoping one of your post scripts will be a gear review video? Maybe? Perhaps a CD with all the music? Probably not a real money maker, but it might be interesting to see how one goes about releasing a musical product. Bet you have some music friends who could use your assistance and your energy. Elina, the music producer. It has a nice ring to it. Another feather in your cap. Goes nice alongside writer, director, cinematographer, editor, voiceover artist. I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and have gotten wet from time to time.🦋
The beginning walk through the woods and the music made me think of Lord of the Rings. I am sad to see the end of the journey. Time to watch PCT again. Thank you.
Amazing story, you inspired me to go. Already got my visa approved. Any tips when staying in Wellington? Looks like you were staying over someones place, or did you rent a airbnb?
Weird question but did you invert one of those last few shots? I was trying to figure out what model your pac is and I think the logo on your pack was on the other side! haha Is that Macpac bag available yet or is it some sort of prototype? Looks rad!
I've always imagined the theme song for the NZ's trail to be "you're the voice." But what would you say it is - since you have actually been on the trail?
I’ve come to really appreciate the detail that you put into editing the sound and music into your videos. Really love the vibes.
AHHH you are so good at this it hurts me to watch it
This!!
you're killin' me!

Mari and Nick gave you trail magic! 4:30 How fun.
You really are an excellent filmmaker. The transition of shutting the hut book and then moving to the next frame was just *chef’s kiss*

I am coming back to acknowledge the ferocity of this section hahahaha. I was personally victimised by Rintoul hahah
I've always imagined the theme song for the NZ's trail to be "you're the voice." But what would you say it is - since you have actually been on the trail?
