  • I've caught the SPRINGER BUG, so I bought a boat and have been outfitting it for trolling for Spring Chinook. In PART 1, I demonstrate how I spool up my casting reels using monofilament as backing to save money on braid and to keep the braid from spinning on the spool. I show the rods and reels I've chosen based on my experience fishing with my friend Derel the last few seasons. In PART 2 I will demonstrate how we rig up our rods with triangle flashers and cut plug herring. There may be additional parts, so make sure to subscribe!
Check out Fish-Field's Online Store! fishfield.com - It appears the rods are back to regular price, but check backm Fish-FIeld has frequent sales and discount promotions.

Fish-field has been my go to for almost everything. Especially when the stores had little to no supply thanks to C19. They almost always kept everything in stock, fast shipping and have a new rewards program. I’m a big fan😂

I’m clearly late to the game! I’ve bought a pile of stuff from them since discovering them.

I love Bi-Mart! Every time i go in, something is on sale. Great breakdown for those like me who didn't pay attention in math class. Nice thing about how heavy those Okuma Guide Select rods are. You can beat the sea lions over the head after they've stolen your springer! Seriously, this will help many correctly spool up reels without wasting braid, which will save money.

Good ol’ Bi-Mart. I’m in there a couple times a week. 😁 As far as the line, Derel and I recently discussed how much working braid we actually use even with a hot fish. We decided 100’, so about 33 yards is about it. So 135-150 yards of 65 pound braid is plenty! Then, after a few years it can be reversed and the stuff that’s buried will be like new.

Now you have the springer bug. lol Have you tried using all braid and just rewind the unused portion after couple of years?

I should have explained it better on the video, but I was trying to get by with 2 spools of 300 yards for 4 reels. I always use mono for backing at the bottom of my spools especially for steelhead gear, you generally only use the top 30-40 yards. And I do reuse my braid by spooling on to another spool after a year or 2 so the unused portion is on top.
