  • In this video we show you how easy it is to install S&S chain drive cams for 2007 and later Harley-Davidson® big twin engines. These cams also fit 2006 Dyna® models. This job may be beyond the average riders abilities, and be best done by an experienced mechanic, but at least you can see what he or she will be doing!

      My impressions were "he makes me feel that I really need to hand-pick an expert who knows all the critical things there are to know" (eg the scavenge port o-ring fitting procedure) before I go ahead with the upgrade.

    In what ways would this installation be different than prior to model year 2007?

    Why you have to remove the head to replace springs? Can’t just pressurize the cylinder with shop air?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  4 года назад +1

      Possible, but presents challenges of its own.

    I’d like to swap out my stock cams to the S&S 570 easy start cams, does S&S offer a kit with everything needed to do the job including the oil pump cam plate tensioner quickee pushrods and tappets? If so is there a parts number. Thanks

      We currently do not offer a full kit with the 570s. You can build your own kit by getting the pieces individually though.

    If I'm installing a S&S 570 on a 14 Low rider will I need to change the valve springs?

      05-later TC heads with beehive springs should be able to handle lifts of 585-590. It doesn't hurt to check for coil bind as an extra precaution

    Does the exhaust have to be removed when installing a cam?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  2 года назад

      Hey Paul, you do need to pull the exhaust to get proper access to the cam chest.

    What S&S kit do you recommend to convert the TC88 to hydraulic cam tensioners, upgraded cam bearings, cams, plate and oil pump??
    Just looking to make the engine reliable, not a dragster.
    Awesome videos! And enjoy stopping by the S&S booth in Sturgis and Rapid City every year.

      Doug - that depends on year, what you're looking for, etc to get you specific part numbers. Give us a call and we can go over it with you in detail! 608-627-1958

    must the push rods come out to remove the cam plate or can you leave them in?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  8 лет назад +3

      +jroxx11211 It would be pretty hard to do. You'd have to relieve the spring pressure from all the cam lobes at once and figure a way to hold the pushrods and the tappets up at the same time. The minute I say it's impossible, somebody will take the challenge and figure out a way to do it, but the fact is it's just easier to take the pushrods out. That can be a lot easier if you have S&S Quickee adjustable pushrods, because you don't have to open the rocker boxes. Some mechanics will remove stock pushrods with a bolt cutter, and go back together with Quickee pushrods just to avoid opening the rocker boxes. Everybody loves a Quickee!

    would the 510 cams be a good choice for a stock 14 street glide?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  8 лет назад +2

      +19jody72 The 510 cam will work very well, but depending on what you are looking for in performance, we have a number of smokin' bolt-in cams for late model big twins, that you might like better. The valve springs in your engine can handle cams up to .585" lift, so you have a lot of options. The best thing to do is to call our Tech line and talk with one of our guys about what kind of driving you do and what kind of power you want. Here's our number (608) 627-1497.

    When aligning all four timing marks, does it matter if the front or rear cylinder is at TDC?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  8 лет назад +2

      No. You don't have to worry about that. Just make sure the marks on the sprockets are all lined up, and life is good.
