A bearer bond is an instrument that can be passed from person to person, and the holder (or bearer) of the instrument is considered the owner. Two good examples of a bearer instrument are lottery tickets (or really any kind of event ticket though an entertainment event ticket is technically a limited license) or a pawn shop receipt slip. Anyone holding the instrument is considered the owner, and they can be passed around freely and/or bought/sold.
Also, that's why it was such a huge thing in Die Hard, the fact that they were bearer bonds would make them a lot easier to fence later, after the heist. Their exchange would be a lot harder to trace than any other type of bond. Thus they had much higher value on the black market to Hans Gruber and his crew.

Danny Kaye might my all-time favorite comedic actor. Tough call b/c Robin Williams and/or Carol Burnett would be riding a close 2nd. Eddie is def top 10, maybe even top 5. This is a tough category to rank.
Wow, this was highest grossing that year? 1984 also had Gremlins, Indiana Jones & Temple of Doom, Star Trek III, and Ghostbusters, so that's saying something. I actually saw all of those in the theatre that year, too.
The original Beverly Hills Cop was a monster. It hasn't stayed in the public eye the way some others have, but BHC would've also been the top grossing movie in 1985, 1986, 1987, & 1988. It was the biggest Hollywood hit from winter 1984 to when Batman came out in summer 1989.
@@Comictalent Huh. I forgot how this did at the box office. I saw it at the time, but I knew more people who saw II in theaters than the first. It was one of the all time great product placements in a movie, and studios must have caught on.
Rewatching this on the release of BHC Axel F, Wesley makes a point with Raw Deal, its a hail mary toss, that movie is a secret Rewatchable especially nowadays Its on the lower tier of Arnold Classics, BUT, its a damn awesome 80s centric Action Film and Arnie is actually pretty charismatic in his performance. We get it. It doesn't have to be the whole podcast as there are so many other ways to take this.
This podcast should've been a A+ but Wesley brought it down to C+/B-. All he talks about is racism and sexism and doesn't push the conversation forward or contribute in any meaningful way. This dude is OBSESSED with racism.
Watching this again, the analysis of how the comedy is almost sneaky in its appearance is spot on. And the “blackspoitation” comment feels accurate but it isn’t. In reality this was a Sylvester Stallone movie who personally made the final selection of Judge Reinhold to be his co-star. Sly had enough cache to make a run at some edits of the screenplay and on the other end were very bloated action scenes that the studio didn’t want to pay for. As a result, Jeffrey Katzenberg slyly convinced (see what I did there) Stallone to not do BHC and do the movie Cobra instead. Insert Eddie Murphy and suddenly the movie needed to have the comic undertones based on its new leading man.
I haven't seen this movie in some time, but I don't recall any scene where Eddie Murphy came off as gay. At least when he wasn't using that as a character to gain access somewhere or to someone.
I'm kinda surprised at the high regard that the guys have for Beverly Hills Cop II. I always found it to be loud, dumb and unfunny. It feels like what the original would have been if it starred Stallone. It looks great though because it's Tony Scott.
A minor plot hole that always bothered me:how was Axl going to pay for the hotel room? The Beverly Hills police force ends up taking care of it, but he would owed a couple grand by the time he leaves.
Another minor plot hole: How did the Beverly Hills police dispatchers keep track of their police vehicles around town? There was no GPS tracking back in the mid-80's.
In the 82-84 run, you skipped Delirious. VERY important in his career. P.S. Jenny was hot AF!! They originally wanted her to be a love interest for Axel but changed that aspect of her because Axel is now black. I DO get what you mean about the acting.
Regarding the Michael Jackson thriller jacket scene, the character of Axel probably didn't see that very often if at all in Detroit. He probably just thought it was funny and weird.
I feel like we missed out on a good deep dive on the character Axel Foley and the movie BHC for a 2019 discussion on a black movie star in an out of touch 1980's movie. Both can be true but the former would fit better as the focus of a podcast called the rewatchables
I think it's a shame so much time is spent on the matter of 'Was Axel Foley Gay'. To be clear, I don't mind whether he is or isn't. It won't make me see the film in a different light or like it any more or less. But I have to state the obvious here: do all four of these people discussing the film forget that this is a trilogy? As much as they/we may want to forget the third one as it clearly was nowhere near as good as I or II, one thing in Beverly Hills Cop III is the flirting/chemistry between Axel and the character played by Theresa Randle. So is it a case that Axel is gay in Beverly Hills Cop I but straight (or bi maybe?) by the time of Beverly Hills Cop III? Maybe you're reading way too much into way too little as far as a movie where the main character has a job to do and sets out to do that. Take the Jason Bourne films. If you didn't see the first or second where there is the romantic element and instead saw the third one (the Bourne Ultimatum) or/and the last one (Jason Bourne) with Matt Damon, to the best of my recollection there's little to nothing at all about any romance in either. So if/when Bill Simmons does a rewatchable on either of those movies, will he/Wesley Morris be questioning Jason Bourne's sexuality for lack of seeing him getting it on with anyone - woman or man - in the film?
eddie would have a bit too young for lethal weapon. even tho mel gibson was only like 30, the character was supposed to be older and mel looked older he could have been in die hard but bruce willis was really great in it. tango & cash might have been a better movie if eddie played the kurt russell part
1:07:03 - "What '80s movie do you wish Eddie was the star of is a fun game." _Who Framed Roger Rabbit_ . He should've done this instead of _Beverly Hills Cop II_ .
25:00 oh, please give it a rest and change the narrative - Foley dressed badly for Beverly Hills and drives a trash car.... but of course it's all because of his color...
Yall lost me with the gay stuff. We live in a time where a person has to prove he's gay or prove he's not gay. A single person who's not gay just can't be nice to a person who is gay or comfortable around a person who is gay. Straight Men can't even show authentic affection for each other for these reasona nowadays. Everyone knows the movie just didn't want to put a black man with a white woman. The other interesting thing yall bought up was people not believing there isn't racism in the movie. As a black man myself it's clear as day, heck the Love story being taking out was purely for racist reasons. That said no way this movie is a success if they kept that in.
I'm not sure if the black guy here is gay but I feel like he's imposing the Axel being gay belief on me & maybe us & these white men are definitely catering to him. As a straight black man myself. Axel was not gay, been watching this movie for years and never thought that. I think it's very wrong & shameful to promote this when clearly the people behind the scenes who worked on this didn't have that intention. If that was there attention then I could be on board but the only reason why this guy didn't have a love interest was because of the race issue & the people expecting us to understand that Axel is a straight man are comfortable enough in there manhood to not go out of there way to prove it. Had he gone out of his way to pick up a chick it would have made his mission to avenge his friends death not as important. In 48 hours it made sense cause he was in prison without sex all those years.

random name Good news - they did do No Country (with Bill Hader as a guest) but it’s not available on RUclips, only through the website.
Here is the link:

And they did
Listening to them talk about Axel being gay feels like the 80s all over again 😂 "what? You have a friend, who is a boy, who you're close with? You're gay!"
The reason Axel and Jenny didn't get together is because of race.
BHC 2; is one of the BEST Murphy films of all time and way better than BHC 1 exactly for a lot of the reasons y’all touch upon
Guys jumped on the Axel is Gay BW without mentioning the rage that interacial scenes cause till this day.
"Hey Axel you got a cigarette?"
18:52 Eddie’s amazing, but I’d most certainly put either Gene Wilder or Robin Williams in that top spot.
I agree.
One surprising thing I do remember following the movie was that people couldn't wait to buy their Mumford shirts like the one Murphy wore in the movie. It was one of the all time great product placements in a movie, and studios must have caught on.
Domestically, yes.
Worldwide it was second to Temple Of Doom
It was ghostbusters not Beverly Hills cop
Wesley Morris is a delight.
"You guys are arresting me for getting thrown out of fucking window?"
Rewatching this on the release of BHC Axel F, Wesley makes a point with Raw Deal, its a hail mary toss, that movie is a secret Rewatchable especially nowadays
Its on the lower tier of Arnold Classics, BUT, its a damn awesome 80s centric Action Film and Arnie is actually pretty charismatic in his performance. Wesley has a great point of his performance
Holy shit...every time this pod went back to 'here is a funny observation...' the Wesley guy was like "BECAUSE BEING BLACK...." and proceeds to make sweeping judgements on the negative aspects of white people of the 80s. We get it. It doesn't have to be the whole podcast as there are so many other ways to take this.
This podcast should've been a A+ but Wesley brought it down to C+/B-. All he talks about is racism and sexism and doesn't push the conversation forward or contribute in any meaningful way. This dude is OBSESSED with racism.
typical lefti who works for New York Times
The drunk guy was definitely a Pryor impersonation
Don't forget about Best Defense
Is that a 10,000 Maniacs shirt?
I don’t care what anyone says but Eddie Murphy should’ve been in The Expendables.
I haven't seen this movie in some time, but I don't recall any scene where Eddie Murphy came off as gay. At least when he wasn't using that as a character to gain access somewhere or to someone.
Eddie didn't. Just that this guy projected himself onto the character of Axel Foley.
A lot of gay ppl in the media are trying to pull that stunt. Constantly trying to inject homosexuality into everything
The Bill Simmons wet dream segment of this podcast
Wesley, you don't have to talk EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn
He has NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SENSEEEEEEEEEE of his doing or saying too much. Like at all
AGREEEEEEEEED!!!!!
But he wants to?
More Wesley please.
No
This guy is so annoying!
Hotels may comp rooms for police/public safety/government
@@HarrisonHollers I seriously doubt he had that in mind. If he did, why a scam his way into it. Again, it's a plot hole for a comedy. No biggie
@@MrOctober44it's not a plot hole Einstein - he was going to skip out and not pay the bill . It was obvious
We need Taxi Driver Re
Axel gets a female love interest in part 3 . Don’t think he was gay
Yeah they forgot about 3 - well everyone did lol
Steven Berkoff is a great bad guy but he is basically a lesser Terence Stamp
eddie would have a bit too young for lethal weapon. even tho mel gibson was only like 30, the character was supposed to be older and mel looked older
he could have been in die hard but bruce willis was really great in it.
tango & cash might have been a better movie if eddie played the kurt russell part
Murphy was probably 22 at the time of filming.
I made it all the way to 59:16 before I had enough...Did I win?!
1:07:03 - "What '80s movie do you wish Eddie was the star of is a fun game." _Who Framed Roger Rabbit_ . He should've done this instead of _Beverly Hills Cop II_ .
Do shawshank already jeeez
Stop you guys!!!! Robin Williams!!! The GOAT!!!
Wesley Morris. Why did you have to let us know about your Eddie Murphy fantasy? enoughalready
richard pryor gets left out of this conversation. before eddie there was only neil simon??? come on
Murphy isn't good with Romantic chemistry. Never watched Coming to America and thought he and the actress had some amazing chemistry.
Whenever they do a film staring a black person they call Wesley .so like 2
you guys are sleeping on lethal weapon
I cant stand Wesley
All time pod
Please replace the guy on the left that laughs at his own comments Everytime.
"He did Scent of A Woman!" and right there Bill lost all credibility as a movie critic lol
Wesley | Let's go back to driving in the car with Jerry Seinfeld and how much fun that was.
Jerry | Not that there's anything wrong with that.
