Well....I was a kid of the 1980s - and at least here in Europe they played them a LOT on most radio stations. So I would not call them underrated - they´re a great band - but they also sold a lot of records here and had a massive airtime on the radio

I a not quite as old as you, but i remember the 80es and its music. I always wonder when people talk about it as the greatest time ever. I was scared every day that the 3rd world war might break out. They were putting up nuclear missiles on both sides of the border only a few hundred kilometers from where I lived. People I knew were dying of AIDS, and I was struggling and working the most dangerous jobs just to avoid unemployment ...
But at least we had the music. That was all we had and we loved it.

This is music! Sometimes I wonder how the 80's were. No internet, no indirect contact between people. I'm 22 but I'm almost sure that those times were much better than nowadays!

Creatively, I must say it was an amazing decade. Look up period between 82 and 87 and you'll see amazing number of new artists who are considered 'classic' these days. Also, shedload of really great movies! But in every other respect, it was a decade just like any other. People who rant about going back forget they would go back to decade of Andropov, Reagan, fucking Thatcher, hot nukes aimed everywhere, AIDS and original yuppies. And that's just of the top of my head. Time has tendency to filter out bad shit.

Interesting when you say 'no indirect contact with people' - I'd say there was more passing of phone/written messages via other people then, and I believe people wrote to each other more, and called more to organise meeting up face-to-face. I used to write to my best friend when I was away in university, that was in 1999, but I'd been in the habit since my childhood in the 80s; I still like letter-writing but think I'm in a minority now - people often seem too lazy/disorganised (hard to know which) to even text individually nowadays, more like "look at my Facebook/Twitter/Whattsapp message/status". It probably took more effort back in 80s to stay in contact with people whom you couldn't see in person, but then the contact you did have with them meant more as a result. Things like a friend/granny/uncle etc. whom you hadn't seen in months/years just unexpectedly showing up out of the blue on the doorstep for a visit for example, was a very common (in my parents' house at least) and welcome delight in the 80s - nowadays hardly anything is a surprise, we're so informed on other things/people.
And a library + set of encyclopaediae was a decent alternative to the information provision of the internet (e.g. Wikipedia); I just went looking to buy a new general encyclodaedia a few months ago, only to find that apparently these are not really being made anymore, you're just directed to the internet version, which I think is a shame. So much has become virtual nowadays; back in the 80s it was mostly direct/physical, which I'd say is more satisfying, but limited compared to the possibilities of the internet. I like to go for a mix'n'match approach nowadays.

Ich habe vorhin ganz zufällig im Deluxe Musik diesen Videoclip gesehen. Begeistert war ich schon immer von den Liedern dieser Künstler. When your heart is weak, Just Around the Corner, The Promise you made, egal was ich im Radio mal hörte - diese Stimme ist unverwechselbar und ich wusste halt nicht wer es ist. Das ist Cock Robin.

ja :), ich willm nichtn wissen ,wieviel schmeicheleioen,flirts,anmachenusw sie bekamk oder abbekam, viele frauen,die dann auch berühmt werden,sind übeerfordert damit, werden bzw entwickeln ne narzisstische presönlichkeitsstörung,auch diva genannt :), doch bein anna hab ich nich das gefühl,sie wirkt bodenständing,und das gefällt mir,auch in den clips ,find ich ,ist sie eher fast schon zu diskret gekleidet, was ich sher schätze an ihr, auch ein grund,warum ich auf sie abfahre, ich mag keine zicken, sien hat was in der birne,da bin ich sicher, ja die songs haben my seelenleben genährt, bis heute,schade fast, das cock robuinm in den 90ern dann verchwunden is!! musik ist zeitlos,in der musik kannn man die den begriff Ewigkeit fühlen,weahrnehmen, so schreib ja faST EN aufsatz :), ja gruß und schöne zeit, christioph
