I saw Jackson play this as his encore when he opened for Linda Ronstadt at the Troubadour in 1972. I was 19. It has always been my favorite song in his canon and I am so pleased he posted this new version. It is so inspiring that he is still playing it nearly 50 years later--and it still moves me in the same way it did that night at the Troub so many years ago.
Alan- that show must have been outta sight...JB then Ronstadt, the first two artists signed to form Asylum Records. David Geffen sure recognized talent
By the time that I had seen them together at Seton Hall University, about a year after that Troubadour show, it was a CO-BILL, with no one designated as an opener. STILL one of the best concerts I've ever attended, along with the same CO-BILL at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan that same year!

so sad that this generation will never know his music and its amazing stories!! i am 65, went to many concerts, and made sure my daughter, now 22 knows what TRULY GREAT music is. God bless you for all you have given so many !!
Words and music will never touch the beauty that I’ve seen, looking into you Jackson. And that’s true. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful lyrics and songs. They are part of the tapestry of my life, the better part of it for sure 🙏🙏
👍💜❣
This tune sealed the deal with my future wife. Thanks Jackson.❤️
This is my favorite song you ever wrote. It speaks to everyone on so many levels about growing up and moving on but still looking back with longing regrets and good memories of home.
I would call this a perfect song.
Always yearned to go inside the old house I grew up in around the years of grade school. In fact dream about it. Wonderful song.
I even think that those living in my childhood home now (and all of those even before them) do not even have a clue as to the history, and all of the living that went on there long before they moved in. 😪
Thank you for everything. Thank you today for sharing this beautiful version of a great song. Thank you for all the other contributions of songs to various benefit streams over the past year; they have made the enforced isolation more bearable. Thank you for your deadication to environmental and social justice causes throughout your career. Oh yes, thank you for pursuing the music and sharing your gift and hard work with us for so many years.
Well said!

Thats true ❗
Jackson Browne... you and your poetry have carried me through many trying AND happy times God bless you and people like you who care enough to share your insight into what is real. Thank you also for teaching us to care for mother earth. Thank you.
JB's voice has remained amazingly tuneful throughout the years. This song's a gem.
This man was wonderful at 18, He is wonderful now!!
👍❗🔺️😻
Yessss!!❤️
Isn't it amazing to see him age as well as we are too....sort of together. But his music is timeless.
@@kirbharp2157 you are so right!
I love this. And you, Jackson Browne, since 1973. You always had a way of expressing my inner broken parts, help me cry, and slowly heal. Yours, Jody
Thank you for this song. My mother passed away at 93 last month. My three brothers and I inherited our family home which Is full of memories but now sits sadly empty.
Sorry for your loss. Cherish the memories and smile.
Hugs
Sorry for your loss. May your mother's memory be a blessing. Where is the house? Perhaps you and your brothers will rent or sell it to someone who appreciates its good vibrations.
It is sad seeing the memories left in a family home. Bless you❤️
Condolences to your family.
One of you should move in your
childhood home & have many
years of new celebrations, reunions,
Birthdays & of course great memories. How cool would it be for
your kids or nephews & nieces to
go to your alma mater.
Pure Jackson Browne. We have a very early recording of you when you were 19 years old and playing at the Candy Company in San Diego. Still listen to your first album.....early Jackson, love it.
“Here I stand at the edge of my embattled illusions, looking into you “ …“ words and music will never touch the beauty that I’ve seen, looking into you” ❤️❤️
Wow ...thank you Jackson and Greg ..beautiful song and Jackson, you have been so blessed with your voice. I have been listening to you for years and you still have a gorgeous sound.💜
The voice is the same. The soundtrack for so many.
These live sessions are jewels - precious and rare. The old songs and the brand new all just shimmer. So grateful to Jackson Browne. His music has buoyed me all my life - still does
Thanks Jackson for the years and all the hours, 'listening to you'
What a treat on waking up on a rainy Saturday in Ireland - keep them coming, Jackson and Greg - pure, timeless class 👏
Same in Hamburg...
Way to go, Jackson... keep singing, man... carry me home... just up the road in Monterey.
when he gets to...are you ready to fly...my heart soars every time...not quite sure why because I love the whole song. Perhaps I've got some flying of my own to do. JB never fails to make you think and feel and that is what I love about his music.
J
Jackson Browne remains a yardstick for living. He remains a poet for my generation and future generations if they are wise enough to listen.
Reading the comments while listening to the song, I realized how deeply that everyone feels about JB. We. Are. Blessed. Beyond. All. Understanding. Thanks Jackson.
Years back after a bitter and sad divorce for me. I went back to see the new owners of the home that was once mine. I walked the property to show the new owners where my past pets were buried. I now know that life and living are temporary no matter where you rest your head.
Wow! What a beautiful rendition of a poignant song written at such a tender age. If Bob Dylan can get a Nobel Prize for a lifetime of lyrics what does Jackson B need to do?
Love this song! Continues to be one of my favorites after all these years.
Jackson Browne - come to Eden when the virus slows..... Far South Coast - Australia - you could write a song here.
Listened to this song over and over at 13 and here listening to it again at 60. So blessed to have this music in my life. Thank you Sir.
Great JB, haven't seen your face for ages, now I see your face has changed a lot, but your lovely signature voice got even better. God bless you JB.
My God the man still has it...so great.
omg I'm bawling my eyes out. Always a favorite song, performed today by Jackson with such depth of feeling, blew me away. Thank you, Jackson. See you in August!
"It's a hotel at best" . . . I had forgotten this gem. Beautiful and ooh the sound of that slide! Thank you so much for this soothing anthem 💜
This song still brings tears to my eyes, but for different reasons than it used to back in the 70's. Keep on rockin♥ I'd love to wander around that room and look at your books:)
Thank you so much for sharing this song and your back story of it with us. I was slightly worried before clicking the video that I might not feel the familiar warmth which I came to love, during my first years of getting to know your music back when I was in my twenties. As it would happen, this song (as with the others) it sounds like barely a few years has passed, and the warmth and emotion is still there. Thank you ever so much for reminding us of these wonderful feelings brought on by your music. May your days still be as good as ever. My heartfelt best wishes to all of you.
“I was among them, who called him a Prophet....” I am among those , that listened to your songs, that felt the messages, were a desperate call, to wake up ...to protect our Mother Earth ,and each other, we felt we were, part of a spiritual enlightenment, the audacity of hope. The songs remain, every bit, as relevant, today,as they were 50 years ago, I remember,we had so much hope,Thank you Jackson, for being the musical prophet,,the humble humanitarian , the voice of many generations, for over 50 some years.♥️🌍
👍
Looking back at you... Deep appreciation for thoughtful lyrics and beautiful melodies over the decades, for concerts, for songs that held memories for you and created new memories for us. Memories of places we have been when we heard your songs, and they became our songs, our anthems, our music, looking into you. Much love and respect to you, Jackson.
“Now here I stand at the edge of my embattled illusions, looking into you”.
😭 Every. Time.
His lyrics 'get to me' with that opening line, let alone all of the other gems in this, and all of his other songs.
50-years i’ve been listening to your music, and hearing so much more every passing decade.
thank you for this. -C
Jb
Your quality of your beautiful voice has not changed at all since I attended your 1st concert in 1976 at Western Kentucky University
Thank God your st I'll creative songs are flowing
I love how thoughtful Jackson Browne is. There's a meaning and substance behind the songs he writes, the lyrics. Very nice. I wish more artists would emulate him.
Jackson a beautiful song -- - going back in time -- - feeling life ❤️
This was one of your teenage songs, wow....It still amazes me how wonderful your writing has been since you were a kid! I just love it when people are truly gifted like this.
I am so happy to see he's doing retakes of all my favourite JB songs in his Live from Home series. The new layer that his more "experienced" and aged voice has given these songs in magical
reminds me of the house i lived in 1966..my daddy died when we lived there, as a big happy family
When we feel it, but don't have the words or the art to express what we feel, we thank God for songs like these.
OMG that is Fantastic.....What a Memory Mate.
By the time that I had seen them together at Seton Hall University, about a year after that Troubadour show, it was a CO-BILL, with no one designated as an opener.
STILL one of the best concerts I've ever attended, along with the same CO-BILL at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan that same year!
Jackson Browne’s songs reach into my soul and I feel the warmth and love in his lyrics and music. I’m approaching 71 and “Looking into You” ministers to me. It helps me look back and reflect on my relationships with people who have blessed me across life’s path, which have made life beautiful and meaningful. And I’m so grateful. Thank you, Jackson. God bless you.
👍
One of my very favorite JB songs, so moving.
Fantastic, as always. God bless you Jackson and everybody listening!
Beautiful music from a beautiful man is a precious gift. I am so humbled.... never stop the music; it's the only thing I can cling to to help me hold on and trust.
Amazing performance Jackson. This song is a masterpiece with timeless lyrics and incredible melody. I appreciate you more and more as time rushes on. I find peace in my soul with the gift you give. Have a great Saturday evening 😊
