LYRICS:
It is a dance we do in silence, far below this morning sun
You in your life, me in mine, we have begun
Here we stand and without speaking draw the water from the well
And stare beyond the plains to where the mountains lie so still
But it's a long way that I have come
Across the sand, to find this peace among your people in the sun
Where the families work the land as they have always done
Oh, it's so far, the other way my country's gone
Across my home has grown the shadow of a cruel and senseless hand
Though in some strong hearts the love and truth remain
And it has taken me this distance and a woman's smile to learn
That my heart remains among them and to them I must return
But it's a long way that I have come
Across the sand, to find you here, among these people in the sun
Where your children will be born
You'll watch them as they run
Oh, it's so far, the other way my life has gone
If you look for me, Maria
You will find me in the shade
Wide awake or in a dream
It's hard to tell
If you come to me, Maria
I will show you what I've made
It's a picture for our lady of the well

How ‘bout some love for Val McCallum!!! 👍
What a masterful guitarist. I don't remember the last time I heard such a sweet tone, to boot.
I’ve been going to see Jackson 🤍 50+ years. He and Bruce use to play on Venice beech in 67. Love him. I’ve seen him 32 times
I wish I could give this a hundred thumbs up. This is Jackson as his best!

I'm one of your original fans from the early 70s. This has always been one of my favorites. Always makes me cry for some reason.
Thank you so much Jackson Browne for all your music for all your words. Take great care

Beauty stays with your heart-- - and Jackson you have one of the most beautiful ones ❤️-- -
Hi Snow, how are you doing today?
I saw the documentary about Linda Ronstadt and your trip to Mexico.
It was magical.
Your music has been the soundtrack of my life for decades. 🎶
I love this song.
It's one of my favorites.
❣️
Has anyone from the Laurel Canyon era aged better than Jackson? What a treasure this man is.
I love you Jackson and your songs. Many nights I go to sleep listening to you
Val's playing is truly amazing...so melodic and complimentary---it couldn't be any better.
Was getting ready for bed so I thought I’d check in. Beautiful now I can sleep…..goodnight 💕
Hi Diana, how are you doing?
Beautiful.
You are beautiful. I used to sit in my truck with my HB cassette and listen with tears loving this song. Your empathy shines bright!
Just beautiful 👏👏
Loved you when I was 17, now I'm 61 and you're still awesome!
Much love to you, Jackson.
Humble, compassionate, loving, such a fine human being. Love your music!
An oldie but goodie. Thank you, guys.
Your music touches my soul
Hi Dee, how are you doing today?
Where the hell would we be without Jackson Browne....lost, probably.
Magnificent rendition of a truly great song.
I was a sophomore in 1973-74. Everyone knew about the Eagles.
Mr. Wiseman dug up a record player and supplied us with fill-in-the-blank photocopies of lyrics. "For a Dancer". I learned how to pay attention to meaning. I learned insight. I learned that I could tell a story with the pieces people already have. I get a little better at it every day.
I remember him as slight and moderate, built for longevity. Barring misfortune, Scott Wiseman adapted to common core, completed his career and now enjoys a retirement of contemplation and broad vistas.
How lovely listening this, thank you!
Hi there, how are you doing?
Love this song, this album, you, and where you still take me and my soul. Beautiful. Thank you my unknown friend.
Beautiful.. reflective song...Another Classic..Thank you..
I love this song
That was beautiful guys, thanks
Excellent!!
Thank you, Jackson Browne.
Appreciation for your lyric poetry.
Jackson's little chuckle at the end says it all;; really nice version guys.
Jackson, thank you for everything. I've been wanting to tell you that for 50 years.
Wore the album out. Wore the tape out. Never tired of it.
Back when I had my first job at 15/16, and coming to grips with how an older man who was not your dad could boss you around in the absence of your family, I was already an avid JB fan and had been for years. One day that boss, my store manager, found out I was a fan bc I was wearing a JB "Tour 80" concert shirt. You know the ones: baseball jersey type -- white front with the colored sleeves to the elbows (I still have it, no its not for sale). He then told me he went to high school with Jackson. He may have said it was Sunny Hills High in Orange County Calif. He said he always had a guitar hanging 'round his neck ... and long hair. I suddenly realized ... "hey, I do that. And I have long-ish hair". I snapped out of my fantasy when he ordered, "go get carts". Ha ha. I saw my manager differently after he told me that. I admired him. Can you imagine? I suppose to the people that post here they completely get it and some may even have a similar story. I had never met nor even been near to Jackson so knowing someone that was in some way one degree separated was huge to me at that impressionable age. Had to be, right - - here I am recounting that story some 40 years later. Thanks Jackson, Val for putting up this awesome content.
After all these years, compa, still my favorite one.
Great song Jackson Browne!
Just two guys can sound so damn good! Jackson's voice and Gibson guitar sound so rich and clear, Val adds such a beautiful cushion under Jackson. Love IT!!
Awww guys….one of my all-time favorites! Val, that was beautiful!
Hi Ana, how are you doing?
I can't live without him and his band
👍❣🌿
Across my home has grown a shadow of a cruel and senseless hand , although in some strong hearts the love and TRUTH remains”
I first heard this song in 1976 when I was twelve and I loved it immediately.
After 46 years I feel the same emotions.
Thanks Jackson!
I’ve been to see and hear Jackson - all over the country. I’ll be in Tacoma later this month to see JB and JT. I grew up and grew old with JB as my soundtrack. He and I are only a month apart in age. I’ve said many times in my later years that I so hope that Jackson outlives me because a world without Jackson Browne…we’ll that ain’t no kind of world for me.
I'd love to see JB again. Never saw JT. I wish I'd known before they were coming here. Too late to get tickets now I figure . . .
@@nataliewilliams9741 its not to late as long as he is still alive.for some reason or another musicians like jackson never stop playing.
I so agree. I've only seen him 3 times so far. I absolutely love every single thing he does.
As a 52 year old that was literally raised on his music I am dreading the day it comes. I have been blessed to see him many times, and mostly with my mom who is why I grew up with him. He’s always been my favorite and nothing could ever change that. I think I am introspective in part because of his music. I was that 5 or 6 yr old trying to figure out what Fountain of Sorrow was all about.
@@nataliewilliams9741 please still try! Even the ‘not great’ seats are fine when you are able to be there when he’s playing!
Love this song, and every song he has written.
I can and do listen to your stories through music all damn day.
The guitar was great!
I'm so happy to hear that you and Linda Ronstadt traveled to Mexico.
I miss her.
Luckily I saw one her last concerts here in Hawaii at Diamond Head Crater.
I made the front page of the paper singing along to one of her songs. 🤣🤣🤣
I can't sing! So funny.
Hi there, how are you doing today?
This is the best jackson ive ever heard. Your voice has ripened to an appex right now. Age will take its toll but not for right now old freind.
My grandparents crossed the border many moons ago when they were welcomed here unlike today’s climate on every level ..
Ty💙
This is my favourite Jackson Browne song. I’ve been playing it on guitar for 40 years.
I like the song a lot although I find the key changes make it hard to sing easily. Well done if you've mastered it... and JB certainly nails it here. Expensive sounding guitars too😄
@@robertnewell9238 What song are you thinking of? Cheer, Max
@@robertnewell9238 Hi Robert. Did you mean that the chord changes make it hard to sing? There aren’t any key changes in “Our Lady of the Well”, so I’m a bit confused. Cheers, Max 😁👍
Hi I always played this in key of G….what key is he playing in here and in Austin city limits video? Thx
Thank you Jackson... thank you Val... you two together just deepen the sweetness of this tune.... loved it then... love it even more now !
Hi there, how are you doing today?
Thank you Jackson 😊 💓
Beautiful. And his little chuckle at the end..priceless ❤
That was beautiful.
My elder brother had this album when it first came out and had me listen with him. I was 12 and can still picture it perfectly, with the LP spinning, holding the jacket and checking out the photos and reading every word. Loved this song from the first listening. -- This is a brilliant rendition of a timeless piece! Thanks for sharing it!
Absolutely 💯 wonderful.
Wondedrful… Jackson, thank you… I’m 68 now, and you more than any other musician have been the soundtrack of my life since I heard your first song as senior in high school… you’ve been fabulous since the beginning… and still are!
Jackson is always great one of the best song writers ever

That romantic dream is that one that kept the Heart fresh and opened, gathering around himself bunch of souls like me 🙏🏼 Thank you 💗
and again....just great.
Always enjoy your music 🎵
Beautiful. Love you man....
Another absolute gem. Love Val's phrasing, as usual.
Yes, truly beautiful!
He's a terrific musician!
So glad that you still play and enjoy the older songs that mean so much to us all. You two make playing guitar look so easy. Masters at their crafts! Thanks again Jackson.
Always timley, always beautiful. Thank you.
Have loved this song for so many years. Thanks for playing it.
Still awesome. That voice and that heart. Love you then. Love you now. Grew up with his songs. They are like a part of me. And I feel like I'm a better person for having the pleasure of just hearing them. Thank you. And blessed be Mr. Browne.
Music keeps us together 💞
Our Jackson Of the Well !
It’s crazy that it must do this for everyone? No, it’s a God thing. Tears. Relief.
One of my best favorite. Brings back so much memory. Thanks JB.
Yeah ! Nice!
Hi Gregory, how are you doing today?
PS Nice Song and Instrument ❤🖖
I love this song. I have been watching this weekly on the Women's Refugee Comission channel.
Beautifully done. Val does an amazing job on lead. Thank you Jackson.
A favorite memory from my 20+ years of teaching high school English is turning students on to the lyrical beauty of Jackson Browne’s songs. ❤️
Applause! Tastefully done. Thank you Jackson and Val.
Love this song ❤️👏👏🔥🔥🙏🤗❣️🎼
Been listening to Jackson since I was 17, I’m 63 now. These songs never get old. I learned how to play guitar listening to Jackson and David Lindley. I learned all of the solos and fills on The For Everyman record as well as a good number off of Late for the Sky.
Thanks Jackson 💞
"For Everyman" holds a special place for me! I listened to it so much when it came out, played guitar along with it ... I think I probably knew how long each pause was between songs. Truly special.
Jackson has been a Favorite of mine my entire life darn near. Every music I ever recorded for myself had to have Jackson included in between all anything I recorded especially when I was driving cross country .. I Love how his words just grab ahold of you and take you there. To actually be at one of his shows you don't want to leave wanting him to come back and play just One More 🤗
Dear Jackson,
Happy Birthday, may you sing for ever ❣🌞💞🥂🍾🎶🎶💃🕺🌀🙏
Happy Anniversary "For Everyman" - still fresh and wonderful
Yet another gem from the buffet that is Jackson Browne’s beautiful mind. Thanks for the feast for the soul!!!
Take it easy and this song should never be separated.
Same with sing my songs to me and for everyman
