LYRICS:
I am a child in these hills
I am away, I am alone
I am a child in these hills
And looking for water
And looking for life
Who will show me the river
And ask me my name
Is there nobody here who will do that
Well, I have come to these hills
I will come to the river
As I choose to be gone
From the house of my father
I am a child in these hills
I am a child
Chased from the gates of the city
Where no one had touched me
I am away, I am alone
I am a child in these hills
And looking for water
And looking for life
Who will show me the river
And ask me my name
Is there nobody here who'll do that
Well I have come to these hills
I will come to the river
As I choose to be gone
From the house of my father
I am a child in these hills
I am a child

Im 65 today and still listening to Jackson after just short of 50 years... Lucky me!!!!
Turn 65 day after tomorrow, and still listening to the music of my youth. Rock on J.B.!
Happy Birthday to both of you!
@@tracy1000 Thank you Tracy! You are so very kind.
I’m a month older than you gents. Saturate..was my introduction as well. Blessed.
Add me to the list. I close my eyes and listen and I’m way back in time.
in 1976 age 22 I left Brooklyn New York and moved to the San Fernando valley in Southern California and played this song everyday because I was that child in the hills ... thank you Jackson
Just love these performances that you’re treating us all to! Jackson, you and your band sound SO great!
Yes, its only fun!😃😍‼
Thanks for your consistent love and support towards me on my page, I really appreciate and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above so we can have more positive conversations about music and life in general 🥂💙
I don’t buy the “who’s the best” thing but this man for 50 years or something has been one of the very great songwriters and performers of those songs. So many of them like this one completely lift the spirit.
He has mellowed with the years like a fine wine....or bourbon! Listen to his demo of "I've been out walking" when he was 18 and listen to him now singing "These Days". It's like a 16 year old Jackson wrote it for his senior self. The character and wisdom come through. And his voice now.....just wonderful!
I was 14 when Saturate Before Using was released. The first time I had $4.98 I went to the C&D Record Bar in Newport, KY. and bought it. I wore the grooves out of it. His music was a major part of my musical journey through this crazy good life.
indeed .. and that was just the beginning .. 50 years & 15 albums later he hasn't lost a step .. recent shows have been flawless ...
So glad to have Jackson putting this material out. He was my traveling partner through his music when I was young.
Mine too
He is an amazing individual
Me too! All these years.
I saw him in concert in the late 70's and was blown away.
God, please let him never lose this voice.
His music saved me one time in my life when I was in great pain and the pain meds made my nerves feel raw and he was the only one who could soothe my soul. This was one on the songs thank you Jackson Browne
❤❤
He saved me too!!!!!
JBs voice is as good as it’s ever been. Great to see him and the band revisit some of his classics. One word ‘Legend’! 🎹🎤🎸👏🥰
You still make me cry...
Thank you for decades
Same🥲
Me too......
In a good way..
I have to say, these guys are fucking amazing!!!
Hello Kelly. How are you doing?
I thank the creator for this gift of a human being and music icon. We are all blessed to have this amazing man still with us along with Val to kick out such heart warming and soul searching universal music. "Long may you run," You and Val are deeply respected from this old Marine Corps Veteran.
I am a sixty five year old child in the hills of Catskill NY!
Gone from the gates of NYC.
Hello Julie. How are you doing?
Thank you gentlemen for providing light in an often too dark world
move me....
clickety clackkkkk.....faa🐼.
Surely this is why so many of us return with such frequency and glad tidings to. ...
Hello Jo- Anne. How are you doing?
Your doing it better than ever. Fine Wine 🍷
Saturate Before Using was my first Jackson Browne album purchase, way back when. Still sounds just as sweet as the first time I played the LP.
Thanks for all the fantastic music !
It was my first JB album as well - a gift from a friend. The name of the album is "Jackson Browne". "Saturate Before Using" is a handling instruction :)
@ Premium Kibble I am well aware of the title, and the story behind it, I have been a lifelong fan, and purchased it as a young hippie when it came out. Not only did it feature some of his greatest hits like " Doctor my Eyes ", and "Jamaica say you will ", but my favourite version of Brewer & Shipley's " Rock Me on the Water ". I had lost a friend in an accident that year and a "Song for Adam" which was his name, seemed surreal at the time.
@@dannytorrance9555 That's a big 10-4. I got it for my 20th birthday and wore it out before I turned 21. I was a big Lowell George fan so I gravitated to Love Needs a Heart. It's still my favorite track on that album, followed closely by Looking Into You. My then future wife and I saw Jackson live the following year and his songs and performances have marked the stations of our lives ever since. ACL airing on November 13th!
@@dannytorrance9555 While Brewer and Shipley performed Rock Me On the Water, Jackson Browne wrote it.
Me, too
First bought Saturate Before Using at 14. I am 66 now. It only took me 52 years to see JB in NOLA a few weeks ago. This song makes me think of my grandchildren and how important it is to leave a better Earth for them. Thank JB for tirelessly working to make her better for them and all the children.
Thank you Jackson Browne and to your band ….loved it….harmonica too.
Love that harmonica! Good to see more of the guys.
Val's harmonica game is on point! 🔥
I sing so loudly when I listen to you, that I have to listen twice and shut up the second time lol 😂 Just love your music I’ve grown up listening to you and appreciate every song Thanks for continuing to produce such joy! L
OMG yes! This made me laugh with pleasure and recognition!!
Thank you for your authenticity, Mr. Browne. I’ve listened to you since I was 14-I’m now 59-and I’ve been grateful all along the way. I left the evangelical church at 16, and after a career as a prof in the US I’m now a prof with my family here in Japan. You were part of the inspiration for me to follow my path.
Wow...At the pinnacle of his career....
50 yrs in..Truly remarkable ...An artist for the ages....Bravo... Long live JB
Dude, Man! Just . . . WOW. Thank you
sending this out to my nephew, Tyler, who left on a journey today
From the hills of WV: Love this Jackson, thanks for posting.
That perfect voice is unchanged with age.
I'm 64 but when I listen to this song I feel "Like a Child in These Hills"
😁🌺
Over rivers and hills
and so may many ears
watched so many trains;
Crossing the years
and roads run on empty
over crests onto crags
holes made in souls
holes made in rags
upon green lights in vain.
Thank You,
Mr. Browne
and ALL the bands who play for these Truths.
WOo WOoo.... .... .... .... ....
Beautifully performed, reminds me of the innocence of my youth. 🙏🏻
i am a child and still looking too
listened on repeat on my record player

Born, raised and live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC and I am a child of these hills. My family has lived here for 5 generations that I know of and I can't seem to leave them. It's sad and beautiful at the same time.

Your a genius and I love you.
Val is unbelievable.Talent enough to be a star himself. I can see both Jill Ireland and David McCallum in his face and body. Too cool
Ah, the man of my youth. In an ever-changing world, what a comfort to have your songs remain in heart and hand. Thank you for the years of the songs in my head.

Hello Arabela. How are you doing?
Great song and performance from a great album…my favorite album of JB’s. Thanks!
Of all my most preciously guarded songs from Jackson, this is just another one....beautiful. greetings from Barcelona.
These videos are GOLD. Thanks for putting them out ♥️♥️👏👏
Still brilliant after all of these years...
A lot of respect for that band behind him.
Saw them years and years ago live in The Netherlands. Never knew he was the man behind all the soul songs that were sung by African-American singers until I bought Do Right Man. Dan Penn - a real SOUL men - never got the credits he deserves.
The WHOLE band is sooooo FABULOUS! I LOVE your voice!
💜💜💜
Hello 😊
That was interesting watching these musicians play they’re very talented and into it and Jackson Browne makes interesting expressions as he sings this most excellent song with his lovely voice. 🌻✌️
Hello Barbara. How are you doing?
Jackson Browne, you're a real American Treasure. Thanks for all the fantastic music, past and present. We celebrate your entire catalog. Cheers to ya! 🤘🥃
Thanks for sharing Jackson -
I love you Jackson Browne I also miss David Lindley God bless both of you
I have been SO blessed to follow Mr. Jackson's career for 50 years now. Jackson is three weeks older than I am (!) so one can understand the parallel of our temporal world journeys. As anyone might see from this new offering, there is really NOTHING to be added, except to remind folks that this brilliant composer/performer never fails to inform and uplift our lives.
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope you’re having a good day ?❤️!
In a word: BEAUTIFUL!! Thanks for the info on the Native American Scholarship Fund.
my favorite entertainer thanks for all the great work for the past 50 years
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope you’re having a good day ?❤️
Wow, just beautiful....thanks for taking me back...Saludos.
This is so good Jackson it's ridiculous but to my mind, there's one "Live From Home" track that's missing that I reckon would be brilliant done this way. "Too Many Angels". Now watch me get shot down :) But please keep them coming.
HERE ROR IT!!!!!!!
Greg and Val are magical
Love you, Jackson!
I love this old stuff. I was a kid listening to big bro's records. Thanks J.
For more than 40 years i have loved this song :)
It is so good see him happy and healthy. His voice is so strong!
Hello there👋👋,how are you doing today?hope you’re having a good day ?❤️!
Absolutely OUTSTANDING !!!
Wow, how I love this Sound! Thank you, J B and your Band!!!🎶💞
Jackson Browne and I grew up in the same town. Although he went to a different high school we all knew of him. We would try to sneak into the clubs in LA when he was playing. We'd shout out our high schools during breaks. Gave him a laugh and a smile.
Omg, Val has grey hair! We are getting old, JB! I just hit 70 this year! Been listening since the beginning, my boy friend at the time bought me my first JB album, thinking 🤔 I would like it. Boy, was he right, I liked you (&still do like a renewal); & I married him49 years ago,)
Thanks for your consistent love and support towards me on my page, I really appreciate and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above so we can have more positive conversations about music and life in general 🥂💙

Still playing many of his tracks 40+ years on. They still sound really good and relevant in 2021. A great talent.
