    There are players who also play in the Saudi league for other national teams, yet they don't get questioned. But Ronaldo, who was the player of the season, better than all of them, breaking the record for msot goals, top 3 assister, etc....he gets questioned???? so stupid

    It’s funny how people like to criticise Ronaldo and what not! But forget what he has done in the last 19-20 years! All he done was throw hard work and dedication! Show some respect to the greatest man ever to step a foot on a football pitch! As for England probably will go far, until they play Portugal and we n

      I believe respect should have nothing to do with it... I just think Ronaldo should play because he's still an amazing scorer, despite his age, and a natural leader. So he still has a place in this team, SPECIALLY if he plays like yesterday (against Ireland). Really liked his passion and, above all... he needs to be as selfless as he was yesterday.

The only survivor of Saltillo was Futre, who returned for the 1990 qualifiers - Portugal played with their second team in the 1988 qualifiers!!! - and had to wait almost a decade for players like Figo, Rui Costa, João Pinto, Paulo Sousa and others. He’s uniteds goalscorer, he’s their playmaker, chance creator and assistor. There’s a reason that when you look at match ratings throughout entire seasons, he’s always like 0.5 higher than anyone else on his team. Since he joined united, his worst season was a 7.51 when Ronaldo joined and became the goalscorer. In the last 5 years, nobody else at united has averaged a 7.5 match rating or higher throughout a season, and I think only 1 person has had above 7.4.
      And he could have been so much higher if his team was actually good and could finish. This season he created 21 big chances (tied for 2nd most in the league, 1 big chance behind 1st place), only got 8 assists (tied for 20th). Last season he created 32 BIG CHANCES (most in the league, de bruyne had 31 and 3rd place only had 25), and he only got 8 assists (tied for 10th). Martínez dropped the 3 CBs tactic. It wasn't working for Portugal at all, and now they're mostly playing with a defensive line of four men.
    Even though Portugal did have 9 clean sheets, the last few matches have shown that something's not going well back there. Sweden, Slovenia and Finland have scored twice (as did Slovakia before) against Portugal in some really poor display by the defence. Rúben Dias seems to be the only one in good shape for the Euros to be honest.

    • @agrillhasnoname
      @agrillhasnoname 3 месяца назад +1

      Wrong. Again, you don't understand anything about football lol. Martinez didn't drop anything, he seems to lack something between his legs because he only uses 4-3-3 against poor teams. When he plays against strong teams like France, England, he will get scared like a lil beach and go back to his defensive 3 central defenders or backline of 5. That's his mistake. Football is like chess, the best defense is offense. He doesn't get it. Portugal's biggest strength is in attack. When he uses 5 defenders against strong teams, he handicaps the team and helps the opponent.

As a portuguese who watched all games, Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia were highly experimental games, and Finland only scored because the team fell asleep for about 15 minutes after being up 3-0. Once those idiotic 2 goals were in and 3-2 was the score, the team woke up again and completely dominated the game again. Which I fully believe won't happen during the real deal against the big teams (the sleeping part)

      You're joking RIGHT?!?!?! Portugal made the qualification mostly using 3 CB's!!! He tried 2 CB's lately, and have you seen the results?!?!?! Loss against Croatia, sub-par defensive effort agains Finland, loss against Slovenia! Yesterday's match against Ireland, 3 CB's, and we didn't give much space defensively. WE NEED TO PLAY 3 CB's. Specially with lateral back that can't defend! Unfortunately, I don't think Martinez will have the guts to bench either Fernandes or Silva to make that formation work, so I trully believe that we won't advance much...

    • @ItsJustAka
      @ItsJustAka 3 месяца назад

      @@helderfonseca9926 Portugal played the first four qualifying matches with 3 CBs. But even though Portugal won all of those matches they qualify of play wasn't that good and the last of those matches, in Iceland, was so bad that he changed to 4 defenders from then on, with one exception: in Liechtenstein, a 0-2 victory. The first game in Slovakia wasn't that good, that's true, but with 4 defenders Portugal improved a lot until the end of the qualifiers. "mostly using 3 CBs", as you've said, suddenly became "half of them".
      Then came the friendlies, with better sides than the ones Portugal faced in the quailifers and Portugal actually played well in these matches with the exception of the first half against Croatia. But the team that only conceded goals in one match (surprise, surprise, against the only opponents with some quality) were now conceding twice a game. So he decided to try 3 CBs again against Ireland and it was a clean sheet. Sounds great, right? That should've fixed the teams defensive problems. But it did not. Even though Portugal didn't concede, I saw the exact same mistakes and poor defending against Ireland. It was just that Ireland is terrible and couldn't score like the other teams did.

    Great video. Just a correction. It is wrong that the golden generation of Portugal was the one from the 2010's. Here in Portugal the first golden generation actually appeared in the late 90's beginning of 2000s, with Euro 96, Euro 2000 and World Cup 2022. Players like Baia, Couto, Rui Costa, João Pinto and Figo.
    The generation after that, with Carvalho, SImão, Deco, (but still with Figo), etc. was even better (although not considered golden), achieving final of 2004 Euros and semis in 2006 World Cup.
    After that, the 2010s generation is pretty weak. Considered one of the worst actually.
    The 2016 generation that won the Euros already as some good players (Patricio, Guerreiro, Renato, etc.), with older ones like Nani, Quaresma and peak Ronaldo, but it's still far from the golden generation.
    Today we have a mix of the 2016 and 2018 generation (Dias, Bernardo, Bruno, etc.) with the new one (Felix, Leao, Jota, Vitinha, etc.) and the team is as good or better than the golden generation.

    In my opinion Portugal should use this Euro to better their young player's with Ronaldo playing CF
    Coz thats what matters especially for the G.O.A.T
    We already had Pepe and Dias in knockouts and it didn't work so why not experiment
    Also in the Middle too

    Portugal was not a highly rated international side till the 2010s?
    Reached the semis of Euro 2000, final of Euro 2004, semis of the World Cup in 2006. Also had some not so great tournaments, but Portugal was already doing well before Ronaldo came along and made the team better.

They forget also that there are 2 or 3 teams from the Saudi league to reach the quarter finals, semi finals and finals of the Club World Cup , like Al Hilal and Al Hittihad , beating many top south American teams an, losing only to Liverpool or Real Madrid in the finals ! Show me a team from the MLS that has ever qualified for a Club World Cup !

Idk if you been watching the Euro 2024 so far, but if you notice CR7 playing he makes magnific passes with his eyes close, he doesnt even need to look. He knows where every team mate is at any time, also Pepe is 41 and yday against Turkey he was a beast.

    I went to the friendly , ireland vs portugal two days ago, and I can tell you, we can adjust easily, Ronaldo will be very important.
    He helped on the back, made great moves and openings, not even talking about the goalscore capability.
    Sadly we don't have pure ST's in portugal, the best we have at the moment is a false ST diogo jota, and for me a second striker that is gonçalo ramos.
    One thing I'm sure he will not repeat the mistake of 2022 , I'm sure he comes from the bench we will be ok as well.

    I think Portugal can win if Leao is given trust and minutes. He is used to be triple marked (thanks Pioli, you little shit) and he can get past people like no one else in the world right now. He's also been more of a creative player for Milan in this season, providing semi-assists despite a very horrible tactical set up by the fired coach.

    I say this without hesitation: if Ronaldo plays as a striker, and engages in combination play, one-two (instead of trying to win the game by himself) Portugal will have chances to win the cup and Ronaldo will have chances to be considered the best player in world once against. Martinez as seen this, and Ronaldo played like this against Ireland. Let’s wait and see. If tries to win the games by himself, he and the national team will fall in disgrace.

    for me ronaldo should start for two reasons, leão doesn´t have experience as a striker and every other striker we have is meh: félix is a number 10 who sits at the bench, ramos crumbles under pressure and barely did 10 goals in league 1, two overrated former benfica players, so only ronaldo is left...

    Many would argue, matter of fact most, that Portugal became a real international competitor with the peak of their golden generation in 2000:Rui Costa, Figo, Victor Baia and Pauletta. This core, mainly Figo and Pauletta, was still elite in 2004 and 2006 when they went to the semis and lost to France in extra time, once again on a PK.

    I have nothing against Gonçalo Ramos, but saying he is a good option to replace Ronaldo at the front is such a joke. GR had 11 goals + 2 assists in 36 matches between Ligue 1 and Champions League. Stating that as a "good form" (9:13), specially when you play for PSG is just not true.
    I believe he can be a good asset to come from the bench but for better or worse Portugal team is suited to play with Ronaldo and even if it wasn't, there's no clear option to replace in as stricker

    • @luisrodrigues4698
      @luisrodrigues4698 3 месяца назад +3

      Gonçalo Ramos is a team player, he should be on a starting 11 if we're playing high pressure, as he is a hard working "first defender". If the game is stalled he is not the man to kick things up a notch or to create sudden, out of nowhere, chances.
      For that there are other players (most of the other attackers, beside Ronaldo, who gets all the attention anyway). The problem with Ronaldo is that he doesn't bring as much to the team as he used to and, at least in the National Team he has been missing more than half the chances that used to be certain goals in the past. I think Ronaldo has to be one of the team and no longer the one they all give the ball to see what happens.
