As a portuguse I think we have a good team right now... But look at Spain. I'm guessing we'll win vs France (we'll be qualified for the quarters as you see) but we'll end up finding Spain (I also think about Germany possibility but I have a much stronger sense about Spain win against them) and lose. Diogo costa is not the wildcard, he’s the undisputed boss of that position for portugal and one of the best gks in the world. He’s a young ederson except he makes less mistakes. Seriously, as a porto fan i don’t recall this dude giving a single goal away and I’ve watched almost all porto’s matches this year which is even more impressive when you consider he plays often as a third CB because he’s so good on the ball. His long passes are legendary. He also has this superhuman tranquility which is a massive confidence boost for his teammates in front of him. He is also known for saving penalties for fun. He saved like 5 in a row in the UCL a year or two ago. He’s the perfect GK. You could ask for some more height but if he was taller he’d be worse at handling the ball so he’s in a sweet spot of athleticism.
Well I'm a Benfica fan, and while I wouldn't compare DC with the goalkeepers' elite yet, I'd definitely say everyone is sleeping on him by far. He's been making monstrous performances on CL these last few seasons and he's been winning crucial games for Porto. If there's a list of up and coming GK out there he must be top 5. Definitely the best keeper in Portugal atm. When it comes to the national team, yeah sure when you have two of the best players of the Premier league, plus some of the most talented upcoming youths and the living legend that is CR7, it's easy to sleep on a GK that still didn't came out of Porto, but these last few games he's proving that he is national team worthy, I'd go so far as to say that he might be one of the best GK in Portugal's history, being up there with Baía and Bento, but then again, Portugal was never known for its goalkeeping talent lol
@@joaocaldas9093 honestly i don’t know in what ways he falls short of the greatest. He’s definitely less error prone than some of the best in the world. I also don’t recall him getting beat when he should’ve made a save or fluffing a pass and conceding a goal or even mistiming a run. Ederson, who I am comparing him to and definitely one of the greats, seems more prone to errors at times. Big stages don’t seem to dwarf him either as he has been solid in the UCL. I think the only thing holding him back is the shirt he is currently wearing. I could say similar things about francisco conceiçao but he’s definitely still in the developmental stage whereas DG already feels like a proper player

As a portuguese who have seen them lose in euro 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and WC 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022, I wish I had the optimism this guy has. Im portuguese but we are nowhere near to winning this. Team as been stacked for years but we still cant reach the top 6 in tournaments. Got rid of a god awful manager to get another just identical. 💀I guess we have a Golden Generation just like Belgium, and just like Belgium we got Roberto Martinez as the manager 🤡 also Ronaldo is old and slow but still plays 90 minute because if u sub him off you'll get kicked from the team. They all play for Ronaldo while he can't even tap in 80% of the times. He's our freekicker but 95% of times the ball goes against the barrier.
