Everyone and their mother has made a video with this title, but I thought I'd do more than just the face change and show the ninth Doctor in the TARDIS immediately following the change. He then remembers the destruction of Gallifrey and, stepping outside, realises he can be the Doctor again.
Behind the scenes: • War Doctor's extended ...
Obvs Ik this is fan made but I love how just for that split second 9 is smiling, knowing he saved Gallifrey, but suddenly the timeline resets and he forgets that he saved it and goes back to thinking he burned his people. Thats is so deep
Luke Gauci ikr
oh man, the nine doctor never will know this
Bruno Oh yes he will as he is still the same man as 11 so he will eventually remember but I get your point
FIFAZz rhe doctor’s cant contain it they all remeber burning it even when the call happens right after they don’t remember what they did the doctor will never remember saving Gallifrey your statement is invalid
icy101 actually, the newest regeneration always remembers the encounter. There’s been multiple encounters between different doctors and all were remembered by the newest regeneration cos they are usually the one who started the change of events, but the older regenerations forget because they exist in a timeline that wasn’t effected by the newer ones, so their time line is out of sync since they can’t experience a past that they haven’t changed yet. So they forget. It is kinda confusing, but the newest regenerations always remember.
So now that there is that, please don’t be so rude to others if you don’t know the facts yourself.
I love that brief moment in 0:27-0:31 right as he regenerated into 9th. He smiles remembering what all just transpired and that everything would be okay, and then he slowly begins to forget everything remembering that he destroyed Gallifrey and then 9 is truly born. Those brief seconds of 9 knowing made him feel like a different person, and that's bizzare to me.
exactly !
Given that Eccleston has pretty much said that he'll never touch _Doctor Who_ anymore and that Hurt has died, so we'll never get a "real" version of this, this is canon as far as I'm concerned!
You did a damn fine job of it!
scaper8 this is the most likely scenario, since we see events in the doctor's eyes
They have all the Hurt footage they need, just short bits of Eccleston to plug the slight gap.
scaper8 scaper8
Dude he was blacklisted
Eccleston will never return. He's against the BBC. They tried to force him to drop his northern accent and instead adopt received pronunciation.
This is canon to me.
Any Old Biscuit same man, same
Its canon for all of us...
Agree
me too
Definitely!!
Before: "Hope the ears are a bit less conspicuous."
After: "Look at the ears"
Damn it all.
I know right??? 🤣 I love those lines, thought personally I understand where the jokes (the multiple jokes) on Eccleston come from but I don't see it with Hurt or at least its not as obvious to me 🤷♀
the ending would of been 10 times better if this actually happened. oh well ;-;
meh blame Eccleston and his dead set ways about not coming back, at all.
Ecclestom said he'd return for the 100th anniversary but it would be a VERY small role as he'd be 99 by then.
Could’ve cut into the 05 rerun ep
give your meat a good ol' rub.
Well they probably didn't because of legal reasons from Eccleston.
If only we could've gotten THIS as the War Doctor's final scene.
Sadly Chris didn't want to be a part of this episode... It would have been pretty amazing. But nope.
I know! He did NOTHING at all for the anniversary event. I made a list and all the other Doctors did at least do something. Even Capaldi, and he wasn't the Doctor yet.
He originally said he'd come back, but eventually changed his mind about it. I honestly think the War Doctor should've been the 8th Doctor. Moffat explained that the 8th Doctor wasnt really the type to blow up Gallifrey, even though nobody blew up Gallifrey.
Moffat also said that the 9th Doctor wouldn't work because he was fresh off the boat during Rose, the first time he saw his own face was when he was at her apartment.
Still, I think if Eccleston still wanted to do it, they should've added a part at the end where he regenerates and has one or two lines like "I'm the last of my kind!" or some shit.
Exactly. Him showing up after this scene, and that being his only scene, I would've been fine with. It would've been a nice surprise, like Capaldi's eyes and Tom Baker's appearance.
Still, I believe Chris will return to the part someday, just give him a good script.
He said he'll return ......at the 100th anniversary when he'll be 99. WHY NOT THE 60TH?!
This video is perfect, all things considered. It's the closest we'll ever get for the War to Nine regeneration. The clips used from the first season, showing him smiling then immediately frowning, realizing what he had just done as War, then realizing that he's now alone in the universe in terms of Time Lords (until the Master's return two seasons later). Also, love the scene from one of his other movies/shows where it says "Brickwall", adds another touch to the piece, adding symbolism.
It would've been better if they did have Nine along with Ten and Eleven and still have War. That dynamic would've seen what Nine was bottling up inside; the overwhelming guilt over his actions and the hatred/rage of his immediate predecessor; and surface with "YOU KILLED THEM ALL!" or something similar, probably trying to choke War before he completed. That also would've given more headaches though given Nine was overwhelmed with the guilt he, as War, wrought. At least Eleven and onward know the truth, that Gallifrey never fell.
Like many in this section, I wish Eccleston had reprised his role, even for the regeneration scene. Alas, his bitterness towards the people in power (probably people who either are still there or left before the Day of the Doctor special) makes him vow to never touch Doctor Who ever again, but if Tom Baker (who also swore never to touch it again) returned for a brief cameo as the Curator, there's a possibility Eccleston may say yes.....provided those he's bitter towards are no longer on the show. Who knows?
He's not bitter to anyone in particular. He's against the BBC. They tried to force him to drop his northern accent and instead adopt received pronunciation.
@@QuackUpward has the most gorgeous smile I've seen on a man in a long time.
The original plan had been for Day of the Doctor to be 9, 10 and 11 (joined by 1-8 and 12 in the "all 13" scene), but Eccleston wouldn't come back, so Moffat retconned the War Doctor to take his place.
Doing so likely also affected the writing of "Time of the Doctor" as well; without the War Doctor, 11 would have been the 12th incarnation (11th regeneration) of The Doctor - so the plot point of the Time Lords breaking out of their pocket universe to grant him a new regeneration cycle (just one episode after having been hidden there) would have been unnecessary. Instead, Peter Capaldi's Doctor would have been the one to face the "no more regenerations" problem.
@DarthAverage tbf it's just one of those things. There's lots of things that could have happened that would have made Doctor Who different. Such as Steven Moffat planning for Tennant to stay for Series 5, where he would land in Amelia's garden about to regenerate then take off, have the Series 5 adventures and then the regeneration Doctor in the first episode would turn into Smith.
Same with Trenzalore. I think Moffat had planned Trenzalore to be a season long arch with Smith staying for Series 8, but had to trim it all down into 1 episode.
Although thinking about it, having the new regeneration cycle with Capaldi would have made more sense. Perhaps having a new regeneration cycle is what caused the Doctor's gender to change. But, I still love the way it turned out with John Hurt.
Love the "Who knows" reference!
Best regeneration video ever. Love it when his smile fades as he looks at the screen. It's as if he thinks he's just destroyed Galifrey, not remembering he's just saved it. Loved the metamorphosis of the TARDIS, loved the ending when he appears to look up into the time vortex.
The Second Coming is a godsend for people wanting to make regeneration videos of Chris:)
He doesn’t actually remember a thing though and believes he killed them all
As much as I like John Hurt as an actor. I would have much preferred to see Christopher Eccleston reprise is role has the 9th doctor
Yes me too. This bothered me so much that I didn't really appreciate the episode =/.
Ernest Walker I have heard he did but only like for 2 seconds. When all the 13 doctors were teaming up to stop the Dalek
@@Philtmnt
Unfortunately, that was merely stock footage, not Eccleston himself.
DaveMan1000 that's a bummer
I’ve never understood why McGann was so Icky to the New directors that they couldn’t recast him from the start in 2005? Eccleston did a great job, but Doctor Who should be Played by a Who Fan, and he JUST NEVER CARED. It was just another job, nothing more, pure indifference after. And they STILL hated McGann too much to do anything then a quick transitional teaser with him, to bridge the gap to Hurt, but at least it forced the show to acknowledge the audio series, for once. I hate how the rest has always gone out of its way to pretend it’s not there. It makes the job of those poor writers more difficult, dancing around the canon like that.
Wow that was really good a massive shame Chris didn't comeback for the 50th even just to film a regeneration scene but you nailed it here.
His reasons for not doing so are well known - he has promised to appear in the 100th though
Trek001 yeah I know why he didn't come back I'm just saying it's a shame is all.
I don't blame him, no, but I do agree that it was a shame it couldn't happen. That is, as they say, water under the bridge, though.
Trek001 "he has promised to appear in the 100th though" Has he really? Do you have a source for that?
you know hes not gonna live to that right?
Chris Eccleston did a great job, I think his portrayal of the Doctor restarted our love for the character and also hooked a younger fan base, after the promises of a new Who series for 7 years Mr Eccleston nailed a new doctor for a new era perfectly, just my humble opinion though 😜👍💙
I love that there was no excitement and no famous first words from the 9th Doctor. The moment the regeneration ended he honestly believed he had just destroyed all of Gallifrey. That's what drives his Doctor all the way up until his death.
Iirc part of the reason Eccleston didn't return for this is because it undermined pretty much all of 9th's character.
@@owenbicker799 Actually, it was mostly because certain reasonable demands he made, like having the guy who worked on his best episodes be in the writer's room, were shot down.
You can actually imagine Christopher Eccleston 9th Doctor reacting in that way post-regeneration and the Doctor gradually tries to forget and bury his War Doctor incarnation as went into his 10th and 11th incarnation
Ben Bradford have you seen the newest season?
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! The best recreation I've ever seen!
Ace Creeper 👀
Don’t like you
This should get MILLIONS of views due to how well made is this!
Regeneration aside. I love the implication that for the Doctor, the time war just… ended. All the destruction and endless carnage, and to his memory he just pushes a button and boom. It’s over. All of it in a single instant, and then he gets a new body, a new interior for the Tardis, and he steps back out onto Earth. Where everything is quiet and peaceful compared to the time war, and the universe seems at peace. And that he looks to the stars, and for the first time comes to the realization that Gallifrey isn’t up there, because of him.
"You all burned, all of you! Ten million ships! The entire Dalek race wiped out in 1 second!"
"You lie!"
"I watched it happen! I MADE it happen!"
It fits perfectly. In Dalek, Ecclestone straight up said that was exactly how the Time War ended. A single Moment (pun intended) and BOOM! It's over.
I love the usage of the Season 1 intro at the end, as if to bring it full circle.
This is actually very nice. Love the music too. Different.
Do you know the name of the music
Rose in peril it name of song
if only Christopher Eccleston was willing to be in the day of the doctor for the full regeneration scene of the war doctor. if he was willing to reprise his role as the doctor they wouldn't have had john hurt and would've had Eccleston's as the one Tennant and Smith would be wary of. in either case we wouldn't have gotten a full regeneration scene.

🤔
Eccleston’s was a great performance, but he never loved the character or cared a fig about the franchise. He did it at all as a favor to a friend. I have NEVER understood their reluctance to recast McGann from the beginning, for just one season. He has always been popular in the Audiodramas, so WHY NOT? And, why not simply let him be the “war doctor”? It was all so needlessly convoluted because they stubbornly refused to do anything but a skit with McGann and Eccleston stubbornly refused to come back.
Elder Millennial I read somewhere that RTD did want Mcgann. But he thought that his doctor wouldn’t fit the darker theme he was going for.
Elder Millennial I would love to see doctor who scrap season 13 and make a mcgann dr who tv series instead
Your choice of music in this video makes this video a whole lot better as well. I mean visually it's beautiful. You chose the right music for the video
The Tardis transforming in the background to 9/10’s interior while he regenerates is a super unappreciated detail, to my knowledge we have never seen such transition from theme to theme other than the “glitching out” to compensate for 3 Doctors from 3 timelines trying to use the same TARDIS till 11 snaps it into his theme.
It’s like the Tardis herself knows the future of what’s to come for 9 and is like “yeah, this is what I need to look like right now”, then 9 upon meeting Rose in “Rose” just goes along with it till theme change with 11.
But, the tardis herself knows the future of what's to come for all the future version of the doctor, it has already been said in one episode that she have all the future version of herself (I mean, the primary room), stocked somewhere in her, remember that the tardis is a time machine, she already know what's gonna happen to the doctor (That's why she / it goes to some location the doctor never asked to go, because to her timestream, she know he have to go there and what he'll do) (I don't remember exactly which episode it was, but I'm fairly sure it was the one when burgler try to tear appart some pieces of the tardis, that one, or the episode where she have a body) =)
neat job, i especially like the tardis morph, using the coral support as a point to key on. and the cut to the Tardis in flight to cover the regeneration. Nicely atmospheric over all.
John is such a legend, he was my great great grandmother's cousin
And I am a horse
This special pretty much bridges the gap between the 1996 TV movie and the first episode of the 2005 revival.
And *The Night of The Doctor* too.
*and the reason why the war Doctor is a thing anyways*
A lovely effort. Fan made edits like this are balm to the heart. I will always be so sad that Eccleston wouldn't at least return for the regeneration scene at the end.
He's doing BF so he may do
Blobfish And I’ll be excited to see it, though it wont be quite the same. It’s just a shame.
Fantastic!
What's the theme used at 1:23?
It's part of the Legend of Zelda 30th anniversary medley that I thought sounded like the Doctor Who 'ooweeoo'.
It's very good my friend! 😉
Chris Reviews That’s what The 10 Doctor Said!
no 10 said allonsy
At the end of the 3rd episode of the 40th anniversary special, “Time War: Part 2” (2003), the War Doctor regenerates into the 9th Doctor and it says at the end “Doctor Who will return in 2005”
is not official but i love it
0:27 scarf commits yeet
Makes me wanna rewatch Rose again!
Everyone hated this for the vanishing scarf.
But now we have canonical evidence that clothes can regenerate too
HE IS BACK NOW GUYS
Should have been in Day of the Doctor
Tardis Net Unfortunately, Christopher Eccelston wants nothing to do with DW. Such a shame.
casartherandom it's a possibility that one day they could convince him to do big finish but I don't ever think we'll see him in the show again.
Yup
no he shouldnt!
RIP John Hurt ❤️
this is stunning this scene and i love the effects when the Tardis changes after the regeneration
Nice- the way you showed him forgetting everything from Day of the Doctor was really well done.
You know, I wasn’t looking for this but it was VERY good so frankly I’m headcanon-ing it too. Guess I really needed it!
I love how he forgets that he didn't kill them all right at the end, and gets all sad inside the Tardis
OUTSTANDING! Genuine goosebumps!
kzane you mean fantastic
Dullyhood lol, I see what you did there
This video was to my surprise good so thank you
Rest in peace John Hurt.
This is actually really good
Of course it makes sense the doctor would forget saving Gallifrey. He usually forgets or has incomplete accounts of his passings with future incarnations until encountering them the second time. The last thing the war doctor was doing before encountering himself in the woods was preparing to destroy Gallifrey. Next thing he remembers, he's got big ears and his home is gone. But I like to imagine that little smile after becoming Eccleston was him remembering he did save Gallifrey, before the timeline fixed itself and he forgot.
R.I.P. John Hurt
Damn, really awesome fan edit! I'm going to make this canon for myself.
I normally hate Who fan edits but you nailed this one. Great job!
War Doctor: I hope the ears are a bit inconspicuous this time!
9th Doctor: Look at the ears!
even if the real version was from 0:00 - 0:36 it would have made all the difference
I wish Eccleston would have just stopped being a bitch about dr who and did a single cameo for this scene. Like if as soon as he regenerated he said "Fantastic!" that's all it would have taken to make the episode 10/10
He would've said "Fantastic"!
I think that's being unfair to Eccleston. He's happy with the work he did on Dr Who but doesn't feel the need to go back and do more and you know what? That's fine. Just because the fans want it to happen and bitch and whine about it, doesn't mean he has to cave in to their demands. He made his decision not to involve himself with Dr Who anymore and that's okay. Whatever his reasons are for not wanting to come back, we should respect them. How would you like it if everyone you know wanted to force you back into a job you didn't want to go back to?
Xylarxcode I'm not talking about him coming back and doing another series. Just ONE scene worth of filming and that's it, not exactly a tremendous amount to ask of him especially since Dr Who boosted his career in a big way and whether he likes to admit it or not should be eternally grateful for the role
absurdrhino He has a fallout with the executives. Ecceleston was already in a lot of movies without Doctor Who’s help. Gone in 60 seconds and 28 days later are quick examples I can come up with. He didn’t like the behind the scenes of Doctor Who and they never asked him for one scene they asked him to come back for the entire movie which he said no.
Joshua Edge well actually he would have said yes but he wanted to do the 9th doctor a bit differently and one of the higher ups said no so he didnt
The look of disappointment on his face after he regenerates 🤣
I feel so bad for John hurt he died :'( Rest in peace
AWESOMELY INCREDIBLE JOB at the Regeneration Scene.
Definitely canon
REALLY do like they picked that jump like that and worked so well.
R.i.p John Hurt
Wow, that was actually quite good!
You can almost FEEL his shock when he loses the memory of trying to save Gallifrey... :'(
The one thing I repeatedly grumble about from the 50th anniversary special. This is actually not half bad... 🤔
I honestly wasn’t expecting this to be so beautiful. Amazing job!!
Very well done...!!!!
It's like the link that connects the classic series to the new era of Doctor Who.
For us Whovians this is canon.
agreed
I love that bit at the end.. Where the doctor stares at the vortex and it zooms up and then down as the intro starts..... Brilliant
this should have been in the 50th seriously no joke heck
I love how it disintegrated his scarf and just kind of tidied up his leather jacket.
That was actually really good.
I think this is marvellous ! Congratulations for such great detail and 'in-keeping' with the programme :)
I did a regeneration scene back in 2006 under the youtube name VinceFielding and used the same scene from Second Coming at the end. It went on to influence loads of 8th/war doctor regeneration vids and I like to think it lead to this great piece of work too :)
VinceFielding is a legend woven throughout history. Or at least, gets two results when searching google's video mode. If you still have that old video could you reupload it somewhere? It'd be interesting to see
Oh... I was a different man back then. Haha, what's google video mode? Would love to see at least a thumbnail. I don't have them anymore :(
Google video mode is just google but you click the video button at the top after typing it in, you're credited as the inspiration for a 2008 Life on Mars/Doctor Who crossover. The other result is for a different person called Vince Fielding who is investigating the son of a former sheriff
Ah, they're nothing to do with me but I did a Doctor Who Last of the Time Lords cross over with Human Traffic and I think somebody did that Life on Mars one similar as a nice response. I must have them somewhere *to the old laptop*
Stop promoting yourself
When he regenerated before he thought about gallifrey I was hoping he would see his new face and exclaim fantastic!
Olivercomet good video how did you get the War Doctor's clothes, to move with Eccleston
After Effects puppet tool
Lightningboy on RUclips The War Doctors Real Name Is John Hunt.
Itskyle210 Hunt? Thought it was Hurt.
It is hurt
I still love how we almost see Hurt's face morphing into Eccleston's ever so slightly here.
This edit is pretty good but the whole TARDIS immediately changing after is a little bit much
This is awesome dude
That little bit of music at 1:21 that leads into the title sequence, where's that from? And absolutely stunning editing by the way!
It's from here: ruclips.net/video/QMXb3CkArWU/видео.htmlm15s
and thank you :D
Music at 0:40 plz
I mean 0:37
And where did yoy get war doctor speech
Honestly, Nine doesn't get as much appreciation as he really should. He was a good Doctor on his own.
great work
Certainly one of the better attempts at completing this scene; the music cues are perfect as well. Would you consider extending the 8th Doctor's regeneration in the same manner, so you see a bit more of Hurt?
Thank you, and it's certainly possible. There's good footage of a feverish Hurt in Crime and Punishment that I know Babelcolour found a use for, so maybe one day I'll give it a go.
@@Olivercomet This video is disrespectful & unconvincing because Eccleston declined. Take it down now.
I always come back and watch this over and over because its just so good.
This is amazingly done! Do you think we could ever get a download of the clean music track?
m.ruclips.net/video/7YQxWzRvCfw/видео.html
I love how he looks as if he's filled with remorse from the second he regenerates
Dude this is so epic! I actually thought it was from BBC as an official video. You have some serious talent. Monitize videos mate and earn some money off them cause that video took a whole lot of time certainly
And so we begin the audios
Very good as always sir, may I suggest you do a 12 doctor regeneration re morph video? 😉
I don't quite understand what you mean. A 12 that doctor regeneration report video?
sorry i meant a 12th doctor regeneration, with your own spin XD
Well, there are these on the channel already: ruclips.net/video/qBopR96I9Oc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/aKVIiEQutmM/видео.html
And also these ones that aren't public: ruclips.net/video/Kqh9PFiEVN8/видео.html ruclips.net/video/DDTwAeo3yMs/видео.html
Thank you, you should post the unreleased video :)
In terms of "my own spin", this one from today is probably the closest it gets, it's not a massive alteration but just an attempt at a different morph ruclips.net/video/hAav_6i6XLY/видео.html
Oh my god the fact that the TARDIS changed and faded, it looks so perfect-
"less conspicuous" the bloody cheek
That transition at the end was soooooo smooth
That was surprisingly good. I was worried that it’d be really obvious that they were two clips stitched together but you kept the music going and that saves it. Well done!
I still think this is better than the updated version
beautifully done. Nine was my first Doctor and while Chris may not care, i do. you never forget your first Doctor
I thought this was real the first time I watched this until I saw the comments...
But it is real for me even for now.
The best fan construction I've seen of the War Doctor/Eccleston regeneration. Brilliant job...
Love that his clothes regenerated along with the Tardis
Such an excellent reference to the Power of the Daleks, don't you think?
I could careless about Christopher Eccleston’s attitude towards Doctor Who as of today. He’s the G.O.A.T. in my opinion and will always be my favorite doctor why because he’s that FANTASTIC!!!
Johnny Ros "I couldn't care less"*
I mean, as crude as this looks, it's clear that there was still time and effort put into it and I can't complain about that. Mad props for what's here.
Damn! This was really well edited, felt cannon and hit the feals! I’m gonna class this as what actually happened in the show cus I genuinely love this! 💗
This is just simply fantastic
This is so well edited! Bravo!
This was spot on, thank you for this!
That was classy, subdued, very classy and utterly perfect. Like others have said, to me too, this is canon now :) Well done.
Perfecto! In some parallel universe we got a full series of McGann and a full series of Hurt - could only imagine how top tier that would’ve been
Nice work! Well done...pulled at my heart-strings, yes-sir-ee. Thanks for giving us that nicely magical moment of joy!
He had the best run and the best character arc
Now that Eccleston is back in big finish, he seriously needs to do this.
April 10th 2020 I am so glad I got it on DVD like the other Doctor who films
