I recently listened to 'Out of Time', which is a Doctor Who audio drama featuring Tom Baker and David Tennant reprising their roles, and I have to say that he made Tennant look like an absolute amateur in comparison. Baker truly is fantastic.
Tom Baker was my first Doctor as I remember it. I used to see it on WQED in Pittsburgh on Friday nights or Saturday nights ( I really can’t remember over 28 years ago very very well) Anyways it came on before Red Dwarf ( which i was into at the time I’m 40 now btw) So I got to watching it off and on. Still will remember Mr Baker and his he played it. Nice to see him one more time and remind me that I’m only as old as I feel
coz they don't and will never know how much charisma that man can actually piss lol I miss doctor who ain't the same I regretfully stopped watching after Matt Smith but will catch one day for sure I had kids and believe me they give ya just as much bother than any doctor who enemies can lol
It's doctors because it means multiple versions of the doctor. It would be doctor's if it was talking about something belonging to the doctor. In any case, it's not worth arguing about
"And in years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few [face] but just… the old favorites" After all these years… You were right, Tom. You were right
@@malfaroangel3896 I think his beef is with Russell T Davis more than anything, thou I don't know much about it and would rather they settle it in their own way!!
The first time I heard that voice say "You know, I really think you might!" I screamed like a schoolgirl, and I'm nearly 50! Tom Baker was my very first Doctor, where my love affair with DOCTOR WHO first began in 1979, when I was not yet 10 years old.
@@TheGoddon Truer words have never been spoken. I hate that what he has done is even associated with Doctor Who. A complete joke that over 50 years, the legacy of Doctor Who has been tainted extremely.
One of the big reasons Baker's Big Finish pieces are amazingly done cause his voice is so well preserved at his age Out of Time with Tennant and Baker os still a solid one.
When he says “congratulations” and they shake hands you KNOW that was Tom to Matt not Doctor to Doctor. Matt looked positively giddy during that brief moment.
Even the Curator‘s hint that he‘s a future regeneration with 4‘s face could be interpreted as just Tom saying "Matt, I think you know who I am and I‘m sure you'll re-watch episodes of your favourite Doctors as well, eh?“
@@alexd2324 I can see the possibility of 11th returning, even if its for another crossover as Matt Smith profile has increased by having a major role in House of the Dragon, Peter Capidli could return as well, Jode, not for a long time to come as she pretty much the face of the show worse era and lowest ratings, maybe a short crossover involving other Doctors
Tom Baker's introduction in this scene is absolutely brilliantly executed. The whole tone shifts as soon as we hear his voice. It's as if a living legend has walked into the scene.
I was sat in a hotel at Brum airport, my wBefore Tom finished his first word I was in tears. What a great actor and orator. Trensilor will be richer when he passes.
And also he says "perhaps it doesn't matter either way". So like the Doctor saved Gallifrey once but then the master burned it down so it is kind of lost again, but the future must happen, that's why he gave a vague answer
I love that writers don't always plan things that much ahead but in the end the story ends up being perfectly tied. (If I am not mistaken, River Song was also a mystery to the writers when she was first introduced during season 4) I love their imagination and brilliance honestly
Eleven: "I never forget a face." Four: "I know you don't. And in years to come, you might find yourself ... revisiting a few ... but just *the old favorites*, eh?" Ten, circa October 2022: *WHAT*
He was the greatest Doctor ever. My first introduction to WHO, was during the Tom Baker era. Matt Smith must have thought it was Christmas morning and he was a kid again, when Tom walked onto the set, I know I would have.
@@richardbidinger2577 : there is the idea that everyone has their doctor , was the doctor when they started watching and that one will always be their favourite. Mine is John Pertwee
I was sat on the couch watching it, saw the whole "all the doctors" scene, and was *gutted* that Tom wasn't in it, then we get the roundels,.. and then BOOM , that voice. I don't think 7 words in a show have ever had such an impact. , followed by me shouting YES !!! like a loon, neighbours must have been wondering !
There's a strange urgency in Tom Bakers eyes, at least there is to me. It makes me feel as if that's the doctor on his well and true final life, near the very end and he simply wanted to see the joy of one of his youthful selves just one last time.
I'm not gonna be surprised if the Curator is literally about to embark on his definite final journey (to Trenzalore of course) where he would finally rest his head and dies in peace. Him juggling about whether or not the Doctor is him is his final cheeky lie, before the liar lies in Trenzalore.
@@sayospecter6731 I do like this idea. However, the Doctor's death on trenzalore was rewritten when the time lords gave him a new set of regenerations. :D
+Marilee Boer if I had been even a techie on that set I would've had a major geek spasm and would've been promptly fired but then again in the WHOVERSE everyone is forgiven !! Luv this moment one of my favs out of a series that has meant so much to me!!
+pvtrichter88 I would of had a major geek moment as well. I love Matt but Tom has been my favorite Doctor for the past year now since catching up with Classic Who! Both guys are awesome though and that scene with Tom and Matt was also one of my all-time favorite Who moments ever!
+Classtoise Could be. I can't think of a better Doctor or guy then Tom Baker to have that be passed on by. Anybody who hasn't had a chance to watch Tom's iconic Doctor in action is missing out on a legendary performance. Simply brilliant. I could see why Matt was so happy to do that scene with Tom in particular. I think they have mutual respect for one another.
"Perhaps I was you of course... oh... perhaps you are me" Laughs... "Congratulations" "Thanks" Those lines were NOT scripted. It was so natural... It's like Tom recognizing Matt as his successor.... I get chills EVERY time I watch this movie AND this part (along with several others)
Here we get a hint that The Doctor will get more lives as Matt Smith is The Doctor's thirteenth life. War Doctor was 9. Half human is 12 Math Smith was 13. So how could he revisit old faces?
Funny thing was they weren't planning David to come back. Scheduling only reason why it happened, which is great. I just wish it was for full season. However, with streaming becoming harder, frankly you need special service to watch it now. Not as many people will get to see it.
@@Wrangler-fp4eiAre you kidding? The projected audience as a result of it showing on Disney+ are a significant increase from what the viewing figures have been for the past decade at least. It being on a streaming service has opened it up to a much larger audience, and that's not my opinion, it's a statistical fact.
That may possibly be the best scene in the entire sixty year run. I love the wink at 2:16. Doctors have met doctors before, it's not clear to me why this doctor would be quite so astonished, and delighted, to meet a future incarnation of himself. Perhaps just because he has such good memories of being that particular doctor. Whatever, the obvious, instant bonding between them just gets me every time.
after hearing the news about the 10th doctor go be 14th it make me remember about this scene, so I'm happy about the 10th coming back wasn't ass pull move
He’d regenerated into another form while the Tom Baker version was still young, so it probably struck him odd to see that version of himself as an old man. That explains the whole line about “revisiting a few” faces.
He's astonished and delighted because he--11 specifically--has been told that he's going to Trenzalore to die. He fears it, and after all this time, he's facing what looks like very real death. 11 spent the whole episode being the Doctor for the Doctor, giving 10 and War hope that there's a positive end to the horror he experienced in the Time War--that he survives and thrives, but didn't have anyone to help with his own fears. And then, who, impossibly, should show up, but the Doctor? Just by showing up, the Doctor proved to the Doctor that there's a way through Trenzalore, and that there was hope for a good future still.
I have to agree. A great veteran actor that truly knows how to bring magic to a scene. Can't wait to hear Tom as "The Bendu" in "Star Wars Rebels" on Disney XD this fall. That will be epic.
+ryanbelcher25rb Have to agree. Tom still has that great voice, that true magic as an actor he has always displayed and that twinkle in his eye that has always made him mischievous and adorable! God bless.😀
You know it’s sad. When I first watched this in the cinema with my dad, who was a huge doctor who fan (Tom baker being his favourite) I never knew what a big deal this was, my dad died Christmas that year, and now being such a massive doctor who fan now, I would’ve loved to talk to him about it and understand what a big deal it was for him.
Not to be too corny but you have something that connects the two of you through all time & space. Even when someone is gone they stay with you in those moments especially . I feel the same way every time I watch Field of Dreams and think of my grandfather.
The way Matt has always managed to portray not just an older character, but be truly believable as someone who's lived hundreds of years. Him and Tom Baker in a scene together, perfect.
Finally! One of the modern Doctors meets the LEGEND. No one else to this day has held the role as long as he has. No one else has defined it as long as he has. His voice still sends chills down fans' (of the old show) spines 38 years since he handed the Tardis keys to Peter Davison. Tom Baker is truly a legend among the Doctor's incarnations. He looks very good for 84 years old.
@@goofyleo3869 He wasn't a geeky frat boy. Smith's Doctor was childish, goofy. Like all of the post-time war Doctors prior to DotD, he was extremely hurt, angry, and pained. I hoped you watched season 5-6, good episodes in them.
In a minute, Tom Baker once again owned Dr Who. You may be able to share a screen with him, but he owned every second of this moment, this scene, this episode and this decade of Dr Who. Now matter how lost the show may seem to many longtime fans, this scene reminds us to heights to which it can still soar
As much as I agree 100%, it's Matt's job to set up the reverence we all want to feel in this awesome scene-and he does it spot on. We all have a Doctor, mine is 4 8>D
He is saying perhaps it doesn't matter because the doctor is a timeless symbol. Also it doesn't matter because why should he give himself advice of what to do? And why does anyone give advice? It's to find the truth. But who knows the truth?
My hubby nearly jumped out this chair, "That voice! Tom!" I remarked, "It was like you knew him." "I did. Tom was my friend through some hard years!" Listening to even this clip brings a lump to my throat.
"Oh you have a lot to do" Being caught in a siege for 900 years, stopping the Master a couple more times and spending a few billion years trapped in a confession dial.
I hate to kill a joke, like, I really, REALLY do, but we all know that peter capaldi’s doctor was the one trapped in that dial. Yes, they’re technically the same person - the doctor, but then Tom baker would be referring to Matt Smith in this scene as “we” instead of “you” in this scene if you consider Capaldi and Smith, the same person
And that wonderful, iconic voice. Sad thing is according to Tom in the newest issue of "Doctor Who" magazine we may not have him much longer. I really hope he is kidding for once and not serious. I just want to meet Tom once and say thank you to him for all the joy, memories and laughter he has given to me......especially catching up on his work this past year.
+Briony Graham-Rudd Could you say hi to Tom from the fans in California? He still has people here that love him and remember his Doctor and his other roles fondly. Tell Tom, if you can, that we really, really want to see him come to a convention or signing out in Los Angeles. The American fans do miss him. His wife Sue and Poppy are more then welcome to come with him. You can show him this text if you want. God bless.😀
When I was in the theatre, sitting there with my mum who has watched Doctor Who since the very first episode aired, having both been screaming/crying with the rest of the theatre over all the other little references, callbacks etc, the second she heard Baker she immediately started saying 'No, no no no no way'. When they showed his face, I didn't recognise him at first, but mum - she asked me if I wanted a jelly baby, and I think we both started crying haha This show is absolutely like no other, the fact it has generations of fans is a testament to that. Mum often says that as a child she never thought she'd still be watching her favourite show with her daughter.
Fr, this comment makes me emotional merely as a reader. Can’t begin to imagine the excitement your mum must’ve felt after so many years since Baker was her current Doctor
Aw that is the sweetest thing I have read all night! I would have loved to have been amongst other DW fans watching it in cinemas. Instead, I was up at 6am in my PJs with eventually my 5 year old for company. We had bananas and custard for brekkie as I couldn't handle fish custard at that time of the morning. Besides, bananas are a great source of potassium and ideal party food. No pears. My three year joined us a bit later and hid under a blanket when the Zygons came out. Great memories.
Me and my grandad watched this in his hospital room. Not the biggest tele or the loudest but boy did Tom Baker's voice boom! A magical moment, one I will never forget. Both our favourite doctors in one room at the same time. He took my hand and smiled with a twinkle in his eye. I like to think he was content in the end because of this and thought that all things were possible. Hope to see you in the stars one day, grandpa x
Good lord... can you imagine both Tom Baker and Brian Blessed on screen (in any production) at the SAME TIME?!? DID SOMEONE ORDER TWO LARGE HAMS?!?! The booming voices alone would shatter time and space with no need of a TARDIS!!! XD
I love Tom to. Love his voice, love his hair (which still looks great!), love his blue eyes and definitely love that big smile of Tom's. I have less then two season's left to watch of his. I can't wait. Loving Tom's Doctor so far and I think his Doctor is sooooooooo cute, funny and sexy. What do you think?
He's so wonderful, I wish I could meet him just once. When he finally goes to join the others - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, then the universe will never be the same.
i have to say as soon as i heard him i started bawling and smiling so hard my face hurts now, to me tom baker was THE doctor and always will be, most of the others did great and especially these new doctors, but nobody will ever fill baker's shoes, how could they, he was a giant of a man
Only Tom Baker could steal the show celebrating 50 years since it’s inception. Honestly, the man is indomitable. Absolutely and wholeheartedly indomitable.
This will forever remain one of my favorite pieces of Whovian Lore. No matter what crazy stuff happens, I will always take comfort in the implication (fact?) that the Doctor will not only regenerate into some of their previous faces, but also that they will inevitably come back to this museum to work as it's curator.
While watching this video I had a thought. On that inevitable day when Doctor Who will present its 'last' episode, for the time being, I thought how wonderful if the 'last' Doctor regenerated into Tom Baker. Well, that would be when he retired to the Museum{?} And of course, when the next generation's "Doctor" comes along, there can be visits by the New Doctors to discuss what ever dilema they are going through at the time. It's just a thought, and I do believe that it might be interesting to those future fans.
My name is literally Sarah Jane, I grew up with the biggest Doctor Who fangirl of a mom, and Tom Baker was her favorite. She passed away a year before this, so I ugly sobbed/gleefully laughed for this entire thing. I couldn't imagine anything more perfect than this.
Hi i met your mom on the train in 2007. She had new white trainers on and sitting on the tube. I was too shy to speak to her and i was starstruck. God bless her.
In 7 words. The entire mood shifts. Tom Baker commands the atmosphere with a grace and excellence unrivaled. His mere voice pierces generations of talent like a dagger "You know I really think you might…”
Hugely emotional is Tom. At primary school in Belfast, he walked in all geared up "Hellooo children!" With those big eyes and teeth, he came around each tiny chair and shook all our hands. The real deal, this guy. The one and only Dr Who. Giant. Cosmic! Thanx Tom Baker! x
There's no way in hell Gallifrey and the Timelords have been destroyed forever. The Master, always coming back from the brink of death or even actual death, pointedly said he'd kept all Timelord bodies. There will be hand waving explanations at some point.
Allan Buchanan I really don’t see how they can bring it back after all life got vaporized, but even if they do the damage has been done. Gallifrey existed for what 4 series before Chibnall decided to nuke it again? Really only two if you start counting from the end of series 9 (which was when the doctor actually found it again and it was out of pocket dimension again). Chibnall just gave a middle finger to the whole 50th anniversary (whose entire point was to put Gallifrey back in play) and Moffat. Regardless of if it comes back or not Gallifrey just becomes a joke. Destroy a planet and bring it back enough times (really more than once) and people stop caring.
The only way this scene could have been better would be. As 11 heads back into the tardis the curator reaches into his coat pocket and hand 11 a small bag. "A little something for the roads ahead," says curator as he walks off. 11 goes into the tardis and as the engine starts up he curiously opens the bag to see it's contents. He looks in side smilesand chuckles to himself . The camera pans to the bag to reveal it is full of jelly babies.
You always wondered what Tom baker's doctor would pull out of his pockets, I remember in one of the Dalek stories Genesis I think they asked him to empty his pockets and all manner of things came out !!!!
This still makes me cry, Tom Baker was the Doctor I watched with my brother who died at 21 in 1985. So his voice brings back so many happy memories but also sad we can’t watch it together any more 😢😀
The most wonderful thing we have still, no matter how far apart they seem, their memory lives on through your wonderful memories of you watching together.
@@Brendan45600 And SOMETIMES... it's the "GOOD MEMORIES" that are the MOST Painful to remember! I can forget or lock away the shitty times... But like when I got to "IRISH FEST" In Milwaukee... and I hear the Music and Smell the smells... it's VERY HARD sometimes to even THINK of going there now?! :(
"Where is it indeed? Lost! Shh!" That is so Fourth Doctor behavior. I know that Colin Baker gripes about not having a role in the special, but if you think about it Tom Baker is the earliest surviving actor to play the Doctor since the first three actors have sadly passed away. It seems appropriate that he would have an appearance.
Im realizing, the 11th Doctor never remembered his conversation with The Curator, just like War and 10 dont remember meeting 11, because of the time streams
@@reduxanimatory7369 Not exactly, when Handles said Gallifrey was the source of the signal, the Doctor didnt believe him, he said Gallifrey was gone, or stuck in a pocket universe, see he wasnt sure, it wasnt till he found the crack and used the Seal of Rassilon to translate the signal, that he knew Gallifrey survived
When 11 told Clara about regeneration in the following episode he referenced her meeting 10 and “Grandad” so I think he’s the only one that remembers since the other 2 crossed into his timeline
Phil Henderson If he only remembers events if he's the oldest iteration of himself at that event, then that means he probably remembers meeting his younger selves but not the curator
This scene always makes me burst out in tears. I love Tom Baker so much. My son and I went to see the 50th in the theater, and when Tom Baker appeared, the theater exploded with applause and people crying. Such an awesome experience. And all over a little sci-fi show...
There is nothing little about Dr. Who. It is THE scifi show of all time. No disrespect, of course. But this is THE show to end all shows. And I say that as a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica (TOS), and others.
Totally, dude. I love this scene. I wasn't sure when just his voice came on in the background, but I thought, "Wait, could it be…?" And then, when Tom Baker's face was first shown, and I saw him there with those Pale Blue Eyes (linger on…) and that beaky nose, I was literally (well, as close to literally as possible for a guy my age) ROTFL! What a moment, eh?
I come from the newer, revived era of Doctor Who. But I truly believe that Tom Baker is the greatest Doctor ever. The man is absolutely bonkers and suits the idea of who the Doctor is, down to the ground. "Who knows, eh? Who... Nose?" -Fantastic.
The childlike glee in Matt Smith‘s eyes during this scene truly just makes me so happy! You see just how excited and happy he is to be there with such a legend! You see the 11th doctor so full of hope and so full of joy. The 11th doctor hadn’t had that much happiness since he danced with Amelia Pond at her wedding
I first watched this in a theater during the 50th Anniversary Celebration. When I first heard Tom Baker's voice my heart literally skipped a beat and it brought tears to my eyes. The whole theater gasped! I felt like I had been transported back in time to when I was 12 years old watching my first Doctor Who adventure, _The Hand of Fear._ Mr. Baker is and will always be my Doctor.
In the theater I was in, when Tom uttered his first line, some people gasped, others cheered, and I was stunned. I couldn't move....No, it couldn't be...The audience, at the end, clapped for 10 minutes straight...
SPOILER ALERT: With the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration in The Power of the Doctor today, finally - FINALLY - the Curator’s prediction of revisiting a few of the old favourite faces has come true.
It's not really a prediction as it's one thing said by one writer and then used by another writer. Especially considering how it's been nearly 10 years now. This was never intended. And if ratings were higher I doubt Tennant would've come back as well. It's more akin to coincidence in other words.
@@AlchemistOfNirnroot Of course. I doubt they planned exactly how to make the Curator make sense when they introduced him. They simply gave themselves a future plot to use at some point, no matter the writer.
Isn't the curator himself already living proof of of that prediction? However, having 14 looking like 10 is expanding on that and I welcome it just as much.
I remember watching this in the cinema, this whole scene felt like smith was talking to the audience. Then the line "i really think you might!" was uttered, the place cheered, instantly knowing who it was. i miss those days of Dr Who
We love a good geek-off, but we did not mean to start any serious arguments with the title of the video. We have changed it to reflect what Tom Baker is actually billed as in The Day of the Doctor. Everyone put your sonic screwdrivers down :-)
I liked it when it said "The Eleventh Doctor meets The Fourth Doctor". We're not really sure if this is the Doctor in the future who's turned back into one of his old selves or just a different person who has one of The Doctors old faces.
The 12th (13th) doctor made a comment on the lines on his face. And he then said he felt like he had seen the face before (see:the fires of Pompeii) but this moment has lead us all to belive that the doctor "borrows" his faces from others. While I belive this is already proven i belive Tom baker could be the doctor in this scene. Seeing as he new so much about the current situation.
Chantz Wheeler Who knows? That's all we have. I think it might be possible then that number four met the curator and became friends with him at some point prior to his 3rd regeneration and whom his future selves visits in the distant future and shares the tales of gallifrey with him, the doctor might remember people he admired and regenerate into their image too. Or simply the doctor could regenerate at will into whoever or whatever he wants at some point, including his past selves... Who knows? Who. Nose?
Ben Best Hello there! I've traveled back from 2063, and let me just say that Smith is only taking a short break from the show. It was really great watching him play the role of The Librarian in the 100th Anniversary episode
I remember when this scene popped up and I yelled "It's Baker!" and my wife came running into the living room. I just remember having chills and goosebumps when I saw him and getting a lump in my throat. What an awesome scene.
Bayan1905 I know exactly what you mean. When it happened I was watching with my family, but only me and my brother in law got it from his voice alone. when he spoke we both gasped. and everyone was like what? Then when they showed him they got it. Ohhhh his voice is unmistakable to me. and the music fit so well. Just the whole scene was magical.
its been years yet we finally understand what Tom Baker meant when he said "And in years to come you will find yourself revisiting a few but just the old favourites" and I'm glad they said this cause we got David back and even if its for a few specials we at least know he's one of the "old favourites" to The Doctor
@@r0bw00d well considering at the time during the 50th special the doctor doesn't regenerate backwards or into an old face so yes it did take us 10 years for us to see what it meant
Let’s not forget the fact that Thirteen basically started her first adventure having no idea what her name is but knew there was stuff that needed to be done. And Eleven basically started his new regeneration by trying to test his new taste buds. Yeah, The Doctor is strange each regeneration.
Year 2054. DW has been on hiatud several decades. BBC introduces a new science fiction show, called "Curator Who" November 23, 2063 airs an episode The Day of the Curator.
Tom Baker was MY Doctor. On hearing Tom's voice, I proceeded to weep through the rest of this scene when it was first shown on TV, and exactly the same thing happened just now. Bless you Tom Baker, and a long life to you.
Yeah, I guess it was always going to be a tough thing to stick to, Doctor Who is like that with a lot of things. It'll be interesting if anyone continues the "Gallifrey is back, Gallifrey isn't" dance they've veen doing since 2005.
We know it is acting, we know it is scripted... but Matt's face when he hear's Tom Baker's voice... true perfection. That is sincerity that a dream has been realised! Simplistic yet intricate... Tom's acting in this scene is quite possibly... in the Top 1 of all scenes!
Almost eight years later and this scene still gives me chills... Tom Baker's first words in an official Who episode, after so many years (goosebump moment).
I cried like a baby when Tom Baker appeared. So many memories. I have been fortunate enough to live a life that's allowed me to witness the brilliance that is Dr Who, from the very first episode. Thank you to all the writers and cast for a wonderful lifetime of memories and inspiration.
''In the years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites, eh?'' Well, those years to come should probably hurry up, then. The old favorites aren't getting any younger.
wishvesh chaturvedi Rightfully, it should be the Doctor's favorites. Then again, Ten did seem to like his face, to the point of using the severed hand to preserve it, so maybe it is one of his favorite *faces* even if it isn't one of his favorite sets of *memories*.
It broke me in two when I heard that voice again. "You know , I really think you might" the Doctor I grew up watching returned. I was taken back 30 years.
One thing I'm impressed by about this scene was that I didn't come across a single rumour of it before it aired. It was like my spine fell out when I heard that voice.
Same here. It's like finding your favorite toy from childhood that you lost so many years ago, and all those memories come flooding back in an instant.
Eu não acho que nenhum rumor veio à tona porque ninguém imaginou que Tom Barker apareceria novamente na DW, porque os jornais estavam focados apenas em relatórios que mostravam David e Matt e o novo médico de Sir John Hurt.
"No Sir. 13." Was when I recognised Tom's voice and just knew that was recorded just for the show. I did not expect to see him in the show as the curator. Super nostalgic scene, in the best way. Touches the heart to see it handled so well.

God. Even as an outsider to the series, it's easy for me to see why Baker held the role for as long as he did. That man is one hell of an actor.
And by his own admittance he basically played himself. I guess he is just that naturally charming.
I recently listened to 'Out of Time', which is a Doctor Who audio drama featuring Tom Baker and David Tennant reprising their roles, and I have to say that he made Tennant look like an absolute amateur in comparison. Baker truly is fantastic.
To be honest, for me Tom is THE doctor.
That may possibly be the best scene in the entire sixty year run. I love the wink at 2:16. after hearing the news about the 10th doctor go be 14th it make me remember about this scene, so I'm happy about the 10th coming back wasn't ass pull move
Probably because 11 believed he'd be the last incarnation of himself. He was out of regenerations.
@@joobus-stoobus-magoobus Ohhh, interesting idea. Yes, that makes a great deal of sense.

It's just a thought, and I do believe that it might be interesting to those future fans.

lets just ignore that.

This still makes me cry, Tom Baker was the Doctor I watched with my brother who died at 21 in 1985. So his voice brings back so many happy memories but also sad we can’t watch it together any more 😢😀
Helen Boocock Sorry for your loss
The most wonderful thing we have still, no matter how far apart they seem, their memory lives on through your wonderful memories of you watching together.

Tom Baker regretted not doing the 20th Anniversary special, "The Five Doctors" in 1983, so it's good that he was able to come back for the 50th!
Troy Davidson the 50th was like 6 years ago
Im realizing, the 11th Doctor never remembered his conversation with The Curator, just like War and 10 dont remember meeting 11, because of the time streams
All timey-wimey...
The doctor remembered about galafrey

God I love this.
It's amazing that Tom's voice still sounds exactly the same.
+44excalibur It's quite a bit softer, I'd say. Not so dominative.
DarthRushy Perhaps a bit. Except for when Tom says, "You know, I really think you might!"
44excalibur You know, that was a well delivered line, wasn't that a well delivered line?
DarthRushy Yes it was. :) He hardly sounded a day older than he was in 1981.
44excalibur I wouldn't know... I'm still at 1979.
Who... Nose?"
-Fantastic.
And then Tom said no one treated him with much respect. Really sad that his ego is bigger than a Dalek's.
@@BWMagus I guess that’s just how the doctors tend to be lol
Tremendously based. What do you think of Doctor Who today?
@@haku_haku_hakuNot as good as it used to be.
SPOILER ALERT: With the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration in The Power of the Doctor today, finally - FINALLY - the Curator’s prediction of revisiting a few of the old favourite faces has come true.
It’s truer than ever given the guardian(s) of the edge as well
It's not really a prediction as it's one thing said by one writer and then used by another writer.
@@jjwubs1638 the Curator is a single incarnation which is a repeat of a previous face. “A few” does not mean one.
I remember watching this in the cinema, this whole scene felt like smith was talking to the audience. Then the line "i really think you might!" was uttered, the place cheered, instantly knowing who it was. i miss those days of Dr Who
That really happened. Awesome.
Chantz Wheeler
Who knows? That's all we have. I think it might be possible then that number four met the curator and became friends with him at some point prior to his 3rd regeneration and whom his future selves visits in the distant future and shares the tales of gallifrey with him, the doctor might remember people he admired and regenerate into their image too. Or simply the doctor could regenerate at will into whoever or whatever he wants at some point, including his past selves... Who knows? Who. Nose?
Not that Matt Smith is gone, who will take his place?
Ben Best
Hello there!
What an awesome scene.
would she have been disappointed if it was COLIN Baker?

Bayan1905 I know exactly what you mean. When it happened I was watching with my family, but only me and my brother in law got it from his voice alone. when he spoke we both gasped. and everyone was like what? Then when they showed him they got it. Ohhhh his voice is unmistakable to me. and the music fit so well. Just the whole scene was magical.
Imagine if you shouted it's Baker, she came running in, and it was Colin.
Disappointed.
but it still would have been nice to have a classic doctor
its been years yet we finally understand what Tom Baker meant when he said "And in years to come you will find yourself revisiting a few but just the old favourites" and I'm glad they said this cause we got David back and even if its for a few specials we at least know he's one of the "old favourites" to The Doctor
It took you years to understand? I got it right away.

It's pretty clear that the doctor means one of his faces. He's pretty bad with human faces. Always has been.
Also the doctor had just regenerated and he’s always a little weird (or weirder) for a bit after he regenerates.
Let’s not forget the fact that Thirteen basically started her first adventure having no idea what her name is but knew there was stuff that needed to be done. And Eleven basically started his new regeneration by trying to test his new taste buds. Yeah, The Doctor is strange each regeneration.
@@4203105 I think that's more 12's thing, he was always terrible with faces and names, tended to just make them up for himself.

Till that time we will have CGI enough to put all the faces we want ... and I am expecting an old Tennant (But God! He looks immortal)

This is the happy version of that. The Doctor, and The TARDIS grow old gracefully.
So canonically Tom Baker is the last face the Doctor ever takes in his life, fitting for the most iconic Doctor of them all.
3:31 i always see this moment as not just 4th congratulating 11th, but rather Tom Baker congratulating Matt on being the Doctor.
Tom Baker was MY Doctor. On hearing Tom's voice, I proceeded to weep through the rest of this scene when it was first shown on TV, and exactly the same thing happened just now.
Bless you Tom Baker, and a long life to you.
Moffat: Galiffrey falls, no more
Chibnall: No, Galiffrey falls more
Yep. You hit it on the head.
Yeah, I guess it was always going to be a tough thing to stick to, Doctor Who is like that with a lot of things. It'll be interesting if anyone continues the "Gallifrey is back, Gallifrey isn't" dance they've veen doing since 2005.
"And what's this BAR association doing here?"

The first time I saw this episode I heard that voice and started to cry. Since my early Who days....my favorite Doctor.

''In the years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites, eh?'' Well, those years to come should probably hurry up, then. The old favorites aren't getting any younger.
CGI can do wonders- but so can legal restraints on image rights. Then again they did recast the First Doctor after Hartnell died so it's possible
Imagine if the 2017 Christmas special ends with the regeneration into David Tennant. man.

Eu não acho que nenhum rumor veio à tona porque ninguém imaginou que Tom Barker apareceria novamente na DW, porque os jornais estavam focados apenas em relatórios que mostravam David e Matt e o novo médico de Sir John Hurt.
Judging by matts face even he was surprised
