It has to sound good and the quality of the tropo and the better sound quality . The tropo is the clear winner for me I have had the ability to hear both in same truck
The tropo seemed to be pretty even with the skar but considering the skar is cheaper and has a better warranty it's kind of hard to pick the tropo over it. I've owned both a skar ddr 10 and a vxf 12. Had the 10 for almost 2 years before I upgraded to the vxf 12 and I've had that for almost 2 years as well. You get a lot of boom for your buck and the speakers seem to be reliable. And seeing the looks on people's faces when they feel the bass for the first time never gets old lol
You do a blind test and play these subs back to back and switch them up, you'd never be able to select which is which on any consistent basis, the results would equal the same as guessing or coin flipping.
Did the TROPO smell at all during testing? I bought a CT Sounds OZONE 12 powered by a CT Sounds 1000.1 amp. I noticed the smell right away. It had clean power. Gain, bass boost, LPF and FREQ all set properly. Everyone online and people in person told it's normal for a sub to smell at first. (I am NO EXPERT) and I haven't owned a brand new SUB straight outta the box in 20 years but I had never had one smell. Long story short...it seized up. Recently, like as in still waiting for it to be shipped, I bought 2 Tropo D4 subs in a box wired to 1ohm and a SALT 1K. After reading comments about single TROPO D4'S, folks are saying they smelled like burning coils and didn't hit for squat. Now I'm nervous. Luckily the subs will be here b4 the amp so I can hook them up to my CT Sounds 500.1 amp and break them in (if that exists). If they smell while being drastically underpowered, I'm sending them back.
You can get some coil smell if you drive the subs too hard too fast. I like to play them lightly for the first few days before I stomp on them, but from what you’ve told me there should have been no reason for them to seize up like they did.
I'm kinda old school with some older Boston Acoustics G1's 12's but have been looking at buying newer subs that take a little more power. I hope all of you realize, how much of a gap 30 dollars per 12 is @ this price range!? Thats 33% more, @ this low budget tier that is huge! If the tropo didnt have better tinsel leads, better looks, more reliability, and way better performance, it would not be worth it. It was not louder, and it sounded similar in hi fi vega's opinion, so as far as Elite 8 BUDGET 12 inch subwoofers, it's a no brainer, better budget 12 in THIS battle has to be Skar. And to the people who said, "They would pony up, and get the tropo" Why would'nt you pony up and get a $1,000.00 dollar 12? Why, because THIS is a BUDGET showdown. We all have our own brands, and criteria that will effect our own choice as to WHY we want something. But if we look @ this showdown for what it is, BUDGET, then we can more clearly decide. The bottom line is, no one can make you buy something you don't want, it's your choice. If YOU decide you want something that Looks great, and performs badly, (not saying any of these do) then who's to say you can't spend your own money on it? This is a budget/bang for the buck shoot out, testing SPL=Data/actual results, and sound quality=one trusted person's opinion of the sound quality, vs $ spent! By the way, i have never owned either brands, and i am unbiased in that way.
Ctsounds Tropo is better made and sounds better , the box specs are more for the sdr . You can use a code for a discount for the Ctsounds and the price will be about the same. And Tropos are double stitched and not glued like the sdrs. Ctsounds ftw
I have both Ct sounds and Skar audio, and have used plenty of Skar subs in different builds, never had any issues with both, but would give the edge to Ct sounds, just bit more spl than Skar, and cleaner sounding, more musical
Tropo, I've always been able to find a coupon for CT. Currently at the time of this post, SOUNDMAN will get you 5% off but you can also get 11% off your first order through their site.
CT Sounds doesn’t stand behind their warranties, even when they’re at fault. The American bass XD is roughly the same price and is stronger, has better specs, and has better SQ than either of these.
Surprised the Tropo didn’t have a slinky voice coil in ~30 mins. Mine did. At EXACT rms power in a box built from their blueprints. I even bought the extra warranty, and they did absolutely nothing for me except accuse me of clipping it, I proved I wasn’t, and then they accused me of overpowering it. I don’t like either brand, but Skar is the logical choice.
I bought the SDR 12 in its factory ported enclosure and the RP800.1 still new on Craigslist for $100. I gave him to a friend in our community and I still have the sub box in my bedroom. I never played it and I probably never will but it looks nice. CT Sound on the other hand is a great audio company. For the money, their quality per dollar is hard to beat.
Don't believe this was a fair comparison being more power was given to the CT. They should be compared at the same wattage and same volume. So my vote is for the skar, being it needed less power less bass to do 138.1 whereas the CT needed more volume more power to win. 👎
In the Spl test the gain knob was at 25 on both as stated in the video and the Skar still did .1db more… So I’m not sure what you’re even talking about. I only gave the CT Sounds a few more clicks in the listening test

@@HifiVega - *Skar SVR 10" - around $112 with 800 RMS and I was gonna use their box $68 = under $200*
Remember, you did a video on the model step down from this one, which is the SDR. Check this, the trans on my 07 Maxima is pretty much shot and I can't lie, I'm heartbroken. I still own it. But the replacement ride is a 16 Accord Touring "Coupe" and I can NOT change out the radio due to safety precautions within the car/radio. If the setup I'm getting is 50-60 lbs Max = Happy
@@HifiVega that autocorrect 😅😂😂

I wouldn’t buy skar because I had a ten to blow on me and I tried to get ahold of somebody called email you name it I tried had a buddy of mine that was a skar dealer he honored the warranty but he told me that’s it hard to get in touch with those guys when it comes to warranty so ct sounds is what I’m going with
I hope all of you realize, how much of a gap 30 dollars per 12 is @ this price range!?
CT sounds imo
Ctsounds Tropo is better made and sounds better , the box specs are more for the sdr . You can use a code for a discount for the Ctsounds and the price will be about the same. And Tropos are double stitched and not glued like the sdrs. Ctsounds ftw
My vote is for the tropo ...period!
The high roll surrounf rubber from the ct is alot better
CT & Savard should go head to head
It will be 😉
@@HifiVega Hell yeah!
@@HifiVega Another sub you could include in this challenge is the Earthquake Sound Tremor series.
I have both Ct sounds and Skar audio, and have used plenty of Skar subs in different builds, never had any issues with both, but would give the edge to Ct sounds, just bit more spl than Skar, and cleaner sounding, more musical
Which brand has cleaner and softer thumping bass? CT Sounds, DD Audio or JL Audio?
Skar 👊
Ummmmm.... You need an American Bass xd on there. Also, Skar svr would have been a fair comparison with the tropo
Stay tuned 😉
SKAAAARRRRRR
Aye matey!
Rob i gotta say Skar all the way.
Im just here to see if CT Sounds is good. I had Skars and they suck. Bought 2 subs and they blew the same day.
Skar sdr ftw
Tropo, I've always been able to find a coupon for CT. Currently at the time of this post, SOUNDMAN will get you 5% off but you can also get 11% off your first order through their site.
Pro tip!
R. I. P. COLMAN THEDINGER!!!
C.T. SOUNDS
B52!
I think if both where tested in the correct Box, I believe the CT SOUNDS would come out on top!
CT Sounds doesn’t stand behind their warranties, even when they’re at fault. The American bass XD is roughly the same price and is stronger, has better specs, and has better SQ than either of these.
Just got a XD in so stay tuned 😉
Surprised the Tropo didn’t have a slinky voice coil in ~30 mins. Mine did. At EXACT rms power in a box built from their blueprints. I even bought the extra warranty, and they did absolutely nothing for me except accuse me of clipping it, I proved I wasn’t, and then they accused me of overpowering it. I don’t like either brand, but Skar is the logical choice.
I’d still rather have a Rockville k6
I bought the SDR 12 in its factory ported enclosure and the RP800.1 still new on Craigslist for $100. I gave him to a friend in our community and I still have the sub box in my bedroom. I never played it and I probably never will but it looks nice. CT Sound on the other hand is a great audio company. For the money, their quality per dollar is hard to beat.
I watched until the first unskippable ads at 1:00. Then I posted this comment. Then I left to find another, less venal contact creator. Best of luck.
I got 2 tropos and it was louder than I really thought it would be
Which brand has cleaner and softer thumping bass? CT Sounds or DD Audio?
@@mashutaki DD is better to me but CT was the only subwoofer i could fit in such a small space without being a shallow subwoofer. The ct did surprise me though. But your enclosure has a lot to do with it as well
@@Pgh2Dall thanks for replying, now i know which subwoofer to buy before christmas 🤶
@@mashutaki What is your budget? There are many out there to chose from that are just as good or better.

Tropo that’s easy.

VEGA, for your #8 sub you should do an audio legion Armada 122. Its only 79.99!!! 2.5 voice coil and 600rms and i promise u it will take 800 all day! Best u can buy for $. If it doesnt hang w/ and even give them all a run for their money # $79.99 i post a shame video on my channel!!!
