Always been a fan of mtx. Never had any problems with their equipment that wasn't my fault. Had a pair of 12" thunder pro's back in late 90s and I beat the crap out of them for the better part of a decade. Overall always been a solid line of equipment. 👍
My first pair of "real" car speakers was MTX... opened up a whole new world of mobile audio for me. This was mid 80s or so, glad to see they're still bumpin'. Thanks again as always and regards.
MTX has made some great amplifiers over the years. I still love their older 90's / early 2000's amps. They always worked well for me and did what they were supposed to. I'm currently using an old 2000 MTX 6500D in my truck to power a Thunder 6000 10", mainly because I had the stuff sitting here and wanted to add a small amount of bass. I really liked the 2002'ish 1501D amp, those things were beasts, it was basically the slightly updated 81000D. MTX amps on the Dyno nearly always deliver well above what they are rated at, good to see they are still doing it like that. They are one of those brands that I know nearly any amp I use from them will do it's rated power, and it's been that way for a long time.
Once again BigD delivers another Knock Out vid! Thanks D & I'm glad to see MTX release this amplifier, looks very stout, it honestly has more headroom then I expected it to have. MTX done a good job on this & I think the price point isnt too bad. I would pay the $700 to give it a try in one of my vehicles.
The test results here just go to show why I have been a " fan " of MTX products since '95 or so! Just as their amps well exceed " rated power " so do their sub's! And they sound great doing it!
Jonathan Ivey knocked it out of the park with this series. I’m excited to put the new line in my truck. We have already started installing the new parts and even the Terminator amps do great. It’s great to see this brand stays true to their heritage.

This is great too see. I had started looking at old school Thunder series amps as I was unsure of their build quality. But man they came out swinging to the fences on this one. Nichicon caps. You will not find that on most other brands. Great video and great day to start the 2025 Dyno runs. Cost per watt is impressive. This should give the big guys a run for their money. And no I am not talking Skar or DS18. This is better than those.
I own alot of old school stuff in my collection, especially Rockford, but by far I own more old MTX stuff than anything. Probably over 50 subs and 25-30 amps. Not the baddest stuff out there, but as far as Old School Cool.....11/10. 😎 As far as most powerful amp I would probably guess 1 of the Jackhammers, but I'd be lying if I said I knew for sure.
Glad to see MTX still putting out some amazing products. Been a fan of the brand since they were American Acoustics Labs - have a pair of the floor speakers from 1979 still going strong.
Had a buddy helping me wire up a system I was putting into a 90’s S-10. He reversed the power and ground at the RF amp and smoked it. Ran to the audio shop to get a replacement and all they had in stock for a 4 channel was MTX. I ran that for almost 2 years with no issues
I love it been a fan since blue thunder days anything kicker im a fan of the quality dropped off from back in the day but this one is promising thumbs up 👆
The ALL MTX Civic in 1991 with 39 Blue Thunder speakers is still my favorite build of all time. As far as amps go, I have run MTX Thunder in almost all of my personal builds.
My very first setup was a pair of the black cone bluethunder subs on a Rockford 125a2. I had that system for 12 years and never had a single problem with them.

Ratings were like 3300rms and up. Im sure my numbers are off but ik im close lol.
I love their amps. They have always underrated their wattage ratings across the board. I replaced a JBL 10" subwoofer with a blue thunder in my home audio box, and got to pick the best of eight from one of the stores I had privileges at and it performs like a champ at modest wattage. Thanks for doing a review on their amp and i hope you find the time to do more. 😃👍

@@princequestly2218I was surprised with the bass knob. This was the first I seen it. The knob they give in the Jackhammer line (JH15001/JH10001/JH5001) is nicer. It more regular size, metal and has a nice machined metal knob too. Really nice potentiometer. I'm sure this new amp and knob have nice pots, they typically always do not cheap out there. Would have been nice to at least see a clip light on the knob. D4S really kicked up the game on bass knobs. Amp temp/voltage/clip light etc. And wireless. (Although I'm sure the wireless isn't the greatest idea from an interference standpoint) I will say with 5 million percent confidence that these MTX amps will sound WAY better than any D4S amp. Those are all SPL amps imo. Just big dirty power.
MTX speakers have always truly "wow"'d me! Their new 3way's with the rotatable pod is super enticing!! As for amps, the old 81000D was a monster and super popular! To get over 1kw mononlock was hard at the time, the Alpine MRD-M1000 was king, but even though the MTX 81000D wasnt as "clean", it had BALLS, people even removed the protection circuit to run it at 1 ohm!
I've had my JLW7 for over 20 years now. I've had to change out the surround foam only once...MTX has always been underrated. I've never owned any of there products.
Seeing those old wedge boxes brings me back to 1997 when I was 16 and bought a MTX box with dual Terminator 12s in a ported box with dual horn tweeters. After someone made fun of me and called me “treble master flash” I quickly learned what a crossover was and unhooked those tweeters.
I think Steve 😅😅 should have went with MTX ,All MTX needs is some Christmas lights strapped to it and they got a winner,,, but in all seriousness good job D,, Good job MTX
Good looking amp inside and out. But glad you tested the amp since the power output numbers were quite "understated". Don't want to blow up your subwoofers. My buddy is still using his Made in America 2001 MTX Thunder mono block amplifier powering a single sub. And yeah, it still performs flawlessly.
Yeeaah... Beautiful design... amazing power... MTX is one of my fav brands...since 1994... Is the MTX RFL 4001 D the biggest mono amp they ever made????🤔🤔🤔

One of my favorite amps I ever owned was a white 4300X in ‘99 or so. Bought it used and ran it in several vehicles before, regrettably, selling it in a car in ‘04.
The MTX RFL4001D mono block amplifier is a monster of power. It is at the cutting edge of technology and performance. This is the standard of the brand's amps. With more than 4000W RMS in class-D (very high that is what I found about the most powerful amp mtx made . This amp put out 8k
@Jack-tf2gw subs back then didnt require 5k like some subs today the most powerful sub was the MTX Jackhammer at 6k rms but was also 24". The most common was around 1000-1500rms. So that was a ton of power subs were also more efficient.
@frederickcrossley8303 yea they used a pair of them in a bread truck that a half pipe folded down out the back of. The first one sold and used in the midwest was here in Indiana, bye a local shop the put it in a Mercury Cougar hatchback for about a month before the guy blew the engine then it sat in the showroom for ever.

@@Bassotronicsnot empty anymore haha. Plus their lines kn Europe over the past decade have been totally different than what the USA got. The RFL line of subs and amps over there were some really nice gear.
My to go audio back in the 90's
This is fantastic! Always loved MTX back in the day! 💪
Looks like a solid unit! Definitely nice to see something better from them!
That amp is slick. Kudos to MTX..🎉
Great to see good ol' MTX still around, I remember them very well back in the days.
MTX = Mad Tune to the Xtreme!!!!!
Nice video, MTX amps has always been good to me 💪
Those 90's MTX thunders were so good - i had the Blue Thunders in my car back then 😄
Once again BigD delivers another Knock Out vid!
Never been a big MTX fan myself but this amp looks super clean.
Jonathan Ivey knocked it out of the park with this series. I’m excited to put the new line in my truck. We have already started installing the new parts and even the Terminator amps do great. It’s great to see this brand stays true to their heritage.
Good work MTX! I had a thunder 6500D(500 watts) in 02' tested 613watts@12.5 volts.
Wow, what a powerhouse of an amp

My first subs were mtx road thunder 2000s 15 inch in a hatchback box 1994 . I fell in love with bass 🔊 ever since I've been a dedicated MTX collector
i used to be big into mtx subs and amps, but after i have 3 of them just up and die over the years as well as one of them completely destroying my pair of 13w3s in the process, i stopped using them. glad to see them come back though! i have a soft spot for the early 90s terminator full range boxes as thats what got me started in car audio!
MTX has always been a reliable, reputable brand. I'm glad to see them still doing MTX thangs!
I own alot of old school stuff in my collection, especially Rockford, but by far I own more old MTX stuff than anything. Probably over 50 subs and 25-30 amps. Not the baddest stuff out there, but as far as Old School Cool.....11/10. 😎 As far as most powerful amp I would probably guess 1 of the Jackhammers, but I'd be lying if I said I knew for sure.
last people I expected this from!
I love it been a fan since blue thunder days anything kicker im a fan of the quality dropped off from back in the day but this one is promising thumbs up 👆
MTX is keeping up the with the competition and keeping it budget friendly! Not bad MTX!! 😎👍
My first system was two MTX roadthunder II 15"s and a Boss 605 four channel amp running it. All from the flee market!
Amazing amp , now let's kick it old school Dyno the 81000D please.
@@LIHTEBULB there is one of these for sale on Mercari. Like 900 buck they want for it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d buy it just for the glory of saying I bought it….lol
Didnt they change the model number the nxt yr in the Thunder Elite to like 7801 or something like that? I cant remember, i had one for a few months on an Orion HCCA 15" then sold it. Wished i woulda kept it now.
@@Tony2Pockets actually I changed it to TE1501D
@@Tony2Pocketsthe TA7801 was a good amp too. Close to 2000 watts. I had 2 brand new in box but ended up selling them. Should have kept 1.
@derekgardin1512 the thunder elite amps were nice there was 1 amp that was the same and changed model numbers like 3x it was the 81000D im pretty sure lookin back mine was the 40001D and i think the 910001, was the 3rd model number for it. Ratings were like 3300rms and up. Im sure my numbers are off but ik im close lol.
Good list of budget friendly 2000watt rms amps
People forget that in the 90's , rockford fosgate engineers left and went to mtx. Mtx produced some solid amps from the late 90's on.
Beautiful amp. I will always remember the thunder series with the prizim lights
Ya the TA/TE series
Price is still a little steep, but I would take this over the smd 3k of the same price ANYDAY
Big D just stop.... stop it already! I already have a garage full of amplifiers and now I want a couple of these also 🤦♂️. And you know you can't just buy the monoblock without matching 4ch ... I still haven't looked at my woot shit I ordered lol. Great video as usual!
That baby is kicking 💪💪💪
Oh man so nice! I need to check this amp out since I still have my MTX Thunder 9510 and 9512 subwoofers.
Very nice, the price point is kind of high, however it is definitely a beautiful amp and it’s got some decent power.
Yeah it is a little high for that especially with that cheap ass base knob they give, that would be a dealbreaker for me.
(Although I'm sure the wireless isn't the greatest idea from an interference standpoint)
I will say with 5 million percent confidence that these MTX amps will sound WAY better than any D4S amp.
I miss seeing amps that have that much "Dynamic Headroom" these days.
BRAVO MTX
GREAT VIDEO BIG D
Seeing those old wedge boxes brings me back to 1997 when I was 16 and bought a MTX box with dual Terminator 12s in a ported box with dual horn tweeters. After someone made fun of me and called me “treble master flash” I quickly learned what a crossover was and unhooked those tweeters.
I think Steve 😅😅 should have went with MTX ,All MTX needs is some Christmas lights strapped to it and they got a winner,,, but in all seriousness good job D,, Good job MTX
Definitely reasonably priced. Good to see they’re still going.
Is the MTX RFL 4001 D the biggest mono amp they ever made????🤔🤔🤔
MTX made some insane subwoofers back in the day as well! Big D should remember the "Jackhammer"
It's nice to see MTX is back.
I really liked the oldskool amp and subwoofer from te late 2000.
Still have t815-44 woofer and the 1501d & 8100d amp.
2 same amp different year.
After that I lost faith in mtx, but watching this makes me buy these amps
RFL 4000.1 I think is the most powerful MTX amplifier ever made. I'm not positive, just what comes to mind.
That's it
@Jack-tf2gw subs back then didnt require 5k like some subs today the most powerful sub was the MTX Jackhammer at 6k rms but was also 24". The most common was around 1000-1500rms. So that was a ton of power subs were also more efficient.
Pimp my ride used one of the jack hammers.
Those amps are beasty. Huge damping factor and very underrated. (They did WELL over 4K at 12.8V)
Started in-car audio in 1993, and did my first system in my 1981 Datsun 210,2 12-inch Blue Thunders on an Alpine amp.
Looks like a solid design, should last a while under heat!
A dual mono design (5kW stereo) version of this would be nice too.
I will definitely consult with this channel when installing my own car stereo. Thanks.
I really like MTX. I would like to see some new 9500 subs paired with one of these amps.
Nice amp.. good quality and you get a Temu bass remote chucked in for free
A tad high on the pricing maybe, but I doubt anyone will charge MSRP, 'cause they usually don't. I'm glad MTX is finally updating thier product line.
12 inch MTX terminators they lasted me 10 years now still sound great
My third favorite brand behind Phoenix Gold with Rockford fosgate being my number one. That 2300 you tested is proof on how well built mtx is
Thanks for the review! Looks like your dyno got a killer workout 💪🔊
