This song says it all. I wanna go back to the 1980s when things were simpler, people listened to the radio and bought records, watched MTV and there was no computers or cellphones. Eddie Money was one of my favorite artists and this song brings back so many bittersweet memories. Take me back to the good old days.

I'm 64 and it hit me today, when a friend posted a photo of the beach where I spent a ton of time my entire life, until our friends who lived there died in the past year. I immediately thought of this song, played it, and started crying like a baby.
I’m 46 and even when this song was new, I somehow felt like understood what Ed was conveying. Of course now it’s very real. I tend to think humanity peaked somewhere around 1986 😂.
This generation will never experience what we had in the 80's. I was in my mid 20's, what a time!!! Sucks getting old, but it is not so bad when we can review what we heard and saw.

This song was never about going back to the 80s (mostly because it was the 80s when it was written); it’s about wanting to go back in your own life to a time when you felt your were happiest, maybe your childhood or teenage years when you didn’t have to worry about responsibilities or dealing with the real world, but you know that you can’t do that and you have to grow up and mature and be the best adult you can be. Thank you Eddie, for everything! ❤

R.I.P. Eddie Money. This song stayed with me since the 80's. Through military, seeing the world and having children the song still seems to bring me back to the "young years". We all wanna go back with you Eddie. May you sing this to the angels in heaven. Life is precious, exciting, sad, hard, fun and yet it is a one-way trip. I saw The Who at Fenway Park last night. I was at a meet and greet buffet and open bar with the band and I thought it was pretty cool when after the DJ played all Who songs for an hour and a half or so, he then played I Wanna Go Back from the late, great Eddie Money. It was a nice tribute. As I'm approaching 54 years old...... I wanna go back. Wow - those high school days.....absolutely amazing times back in the early 80's.

This video was filmed at the old Dover Middle school in Dover NJ...I was at the school in 1980-81. This was shot in 1986...An art school is still there today.
Saw this guy in concert in 1998 and it will still goes down as one of the greatest ever. Have seen alot of concerts but Eddie would always put his heart into the songs and music. Wish i was back in 1998. Time has flown

Not sure who else feels the same, but it blows my mind that we'll never have the chance to go back and relive our early years and experience all of those great times again. I try to tell my kids everyday to cherish their teenage years now before time slips by.

Time slips by like water through your hands in a cool running stream - it feels good, but you do not know where it came from nor where it is going. That is the point - teach your kids to love the cool running stream.
Yes, but even so, it will never be as magical as what we had in the 80’s..the music, movies, arcades, freedom, cheap gas, fast cars, cruising, the malls, the fashion, decor, style..there will never be anything that compares. There may be another amazing decade, and I hope I’m able to enjoy it, but it hasn’t come yet.
I do the same Vito, I always tell my son to look around and enjoy these moments because they are truly great days.

I have just discovered this song and came here to share my overwhelming desire to go back to the 80s, and my devastating sadness that it will never happen, and I am so heartened to see so many people echoing the same sentiments.
The 80s the greatest decade ever, the true era of the teenager, with just enough technology to enjoy luxuries previous decades could only dream of but without ruining our lives like it has today. Every musical genre thrived - with an emphasis on talent and playing real instruments - where heavy rock/metal rubbed shoulders with pop singers, new wave, soul and rap in the top ten.
Where Hollywood made original films, remakes were few and far between and took a good 30 years to arrive (usually only because of massive cultural changes and special effects improvements) and where a sequel film was usually as good as it got and a trilogy was as rare as hen's teeth - unlike the "shared universe/ten films per franchise" nonsense we have now. Where renting a film took effort and felt like a special occasion unlike the laziness of 1000 films at our fingertips.
Where summer days lasted until it went dark at 10pm and you were outside all day. Riding your BMX over makeshift ramps with 3 of your friends lying in a row for you to jump over. Building dens and treehouses, forming gangs and becoming blood brothers. Adventures that took in fields, rivers and the occasional spooky-looking house that you dared each other to go into.
Of calling up your friends and having to speak to their parents first. Of late-night chats, twirling the cord around your fingers, shouting "I'm on the phone" when you heard another receiver got picked up, and the satisfying slam of the receiver when you got angry with whoever you were chatting with.
I could go on but I think you get the picture. I just wanna go back and I would give up everything I own to be able to do it.

@@TheSportsfan35 No civil wars, no Cold War, we have *fewer* nuclear weapons, much less unemployment, inflation is barely a factor, toxic waste is much more regulated (remember Love Canal?), the Middle East is much more peaceful (remember Lebanon?), there is less overt racism and sexism, gays are not being assaulted in public now, people around the world are more connected than ever (no Iron Curtain), we have much better understanding of how our planet and universe works, and despite health care costing ten times as much our life expectancy has gone up five years. It's a *much* better time to be alive.

This song sums up exactly the way I feel at 67 -- would love to go back to my high school/college days.
If I could I would love to go back to the eighties to tell Eddie Money, while he was in his Musical Prime and releasing all his hits, how his songs are going to inspire a younger generation and how truly gifted we all thought he was and how his music was a huge part of so many of us. He was truly One of a kind! 🎸 🤟
