I was on the USS Mobile parked right by the Missouri when this was filmed. I was a signalman so I got to watch the entire thing through the BIG EYES. Amazing then, amazing now. Thanks for all the great memories Cher.

My mom was a HUGE Cher fan so I've been listening to this amazing woman since birth. I'm 44 + lost my mum when I was 27 very unexpectedly. She was my best friend, my rock + I miss her so very much. Anytime I here Cher, especially this song, I think of her. If only we could turn back time...
My mother was a huge fan as well. I lost her when I was 19. She used to always sing this to me as a kid. 20 years later it's still kind of hard for me to listen to.

It was a beautiful sight & obviously sound.
It was utterly brilliant seeing the youngsters singing and dancing to the music that was a generation before them.

Actually, yes, it was very scandalous when that video came out. I remember it well. Cher snuck that outfit in at the last minute. She was known for her risqué, almost nude outfits and she was one of a kind. She carried it well and basically thumbed her nose at everyone. The 80s were far far more conservative than nowadays. I can't believe some of the outfits celebrities wear and outright porn in MVs these days.
@@apveening Oh, it was scandalous. MTV was forced to air it only after 9 PM after protests. We were all talking about her showing her butt at that time because it was unheard of to see anything like that on television.

My brother in law retired after 35 years as a Army Ranger as a Colonel, my nephew is a Sargent in the National Guard as a Helicopter Mechanic, and my cousin retired as a Air Force Master Sergeant, and another by marriage who lost both of his legs in Vietnam.

I heard the Navy leaders that allowed this to be filmed got in huge trouble. In hindsight, it was probably worth some careers, an important piece of pop culture and US History and a great showcase of the historic ship.
The Wikipedia article says the Secretary of the Navy thought about firing the CO of the Missouri but decided against it
My buddy was on there when they filmed this. He said she rehearsed in a different outfit and when she came out with the one in the video the navy higher ups lost their minds and said we're never doing this again. Lol.
It's the best music video ever made! However, I can understand why the US Navy hierarchy were a little bit cross, considering about a year after the song was released Iraq invaded Kuwait, kicking off the first Gulf War - I'm assuming this battleship headed out to the Gulf at that time. Regardless though, it's still a fantastic performance by the most fabulous female rock singer - she's amazing! 🫶🏻

Yeah cher was a real dog 🤮 lol but I do agree the '80s produced possibly the best music ever. Of course you'll never get somebody who grew up during the '60s to admit that. But modern music was pretty new back in the 60s. Everything is great when it's new. Especially on a personal level. Music, food, a house, pussy, a car, your first high. They all have that new exciting feel to them. But then as time goes by and they get boring, newer more exciting stuff comes out, but it will never have that same exciting feeling as when you first experienced it. Esp pussy and drugs.

Cousin murdered when we were both 14 this was her favourite song! Played at her funeral! Took me 15 years to listen to this song without crying like a baby 😢. Because she would not want that for me or anyone! I absolutely love this because now ❤️ i think of her in a positive way. We both share the song and it's a positive song for me now! My cousin was beautiful and I feel lucky i got 14 years with her❤. We would both be 50 next year if she was alive in life but she is in my heart ❤️ always!
