So grateful for this video, please continue. I love watching the more cinematic and idyllic videos very much, but this shows a more realistic and candid view of what all you do and endure. Btw, I really adore Katie's style and and am inspired by her strength. Thank you both so much.
That gray plastic box was a float for a boat dock! That was the start for your boat dock..... Keep up the good work!!!
I've clearly watched too many episodes of Shetland and Vera. When I saw the floating contraband I was worried that it contained evidence of a crime! 😂
I thought the same!
Yikes!
Me too!
As one of your neighbours. How do, enjoying the footage of the island and seeing the cabin in all its glory. My partner cut that lovely wood himself. Hope to meet you soon and hopefully help with garage recommendations and the big shop. Mia & Donald
Howdy to you guys as well! Stop by for a cuppa at the high tide if you've a boat, or say Hi if you see us on the mainland! Kx
You both seem to have gained confidence in front of the camera since your first vlogs, it's good to see and hear you both doing your daily chores.
I very much enjoyed this new format vlog.👍
A couple of lovely live edge slabs under the cabin. Will make some beautiful desks or tables
We will definitely use them for something, good shout! Great minds...
I think you will have trouble in the bad weather getting your shopping. You need to stock up on pulses and tinned stuff just in case. And start your veggie plot 😉😉👍👍
This is the first time the weekly delivery has failed, but you are right, it will not be the first. We are already stocked to the gunnels with rice, pasta and tinned tuna!
My dear friend Scott: Funnier, and far more charismatic than he comes across on here. Love him (as I know I would his superior half), miss him (although he’ll never reciprocate such emotion) as the years go by. This channel is top-drawer, and I wish them both the utmost success in their chosen adventure. Beautifully shot (given the equipment), and exquisitely narrated.
Excellent Episode as always.
Your friend,
Lee
Cash is in the post. ;)
Hope it’s the ‘agreed’ amount: A full Bag (in used notes), and a quarter of Jelly Tots. 😂
Lots of useful materials in Derek’s material piles. Plenty of stuff to make a trash bin box/shed to keep the animals out.
I so enjoyed the start of the new series. What a great team you two are. I really enjoyed the everyday look of your normal day. Thank you both for sharing with us. You two are really getting in shape. I laughed so hard about using the name Derrick. So funny!
🤣
Loving your vlogs in all their forms. Thank you for sharing with us.
Gosh, thank you so much for your generosity. Your kindness is so humbling, and thank you for your encouragement, too. We hope you'll continue to enjoy them.
Why not use that container to store the rubbish?! The pine martins wouldn't be able to access that!
We're not entirely sure it is a container. We couldn't get into it, although it was obviously empty. It may be some form of flotation equipment.
It looks like a skip, (large rubbish bin).
It looks like a float off of a dock
Love seeing your personalities develop and that you are becoming more relaxed in front of the camera! Great video!
I love the raw footage....makes it feel like we are watching it live.😊
I’d love to see how your fireplace turned out and the wall surrounding it.😊
This is an ongoing process. All of the vlogs are being filmed and edited in real time. The fireplace and chimney breast will not be completed for a while. We're waiting on a stonemason. Waiting in this part of the country can take a considerably long time.
This episode I really enjoyed! Just seeing the pace and the small things of every day life ❤
Your videos are my go-to for both entertainment and learning something new. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thank you very much!
Much better seeing your daily life. Islands lovely , I’m guessing it’s colder there than Ayrshire today. It’s roasting here!
A scorcher here today. The hottest day since we arrived. The unfortunate side effect is it woke the midges up the moment the sun went over the island. We thought they'd all gone!
@@TheScottishIsle ah, there's a large, old, tropical, former hurricane, approaching to the southwest and disturbing the regular wind directions.
I have been enjoying all your videos, but I really like this new format, and I hope you keep giving us this kind of content!! And, I have been wondering about your internet, and you explained a bit of it. Cheers, Judy
just found your channel and can’t wait for more content. I am binge watching until I can catch up ❤
Welcome!!
OMG you guys make me we laugh/smile in the best possible way, and if cake is the answer to every issue, well bring it on !!!
So many challenges, each requiring a clean up first.
We don’t have an MoT inspection system in Australia, the weather is kinder on vehicles over here.
However, we tend not to store “stuff” under buildings if we can help it, possums, termites, snakes and spiders love places like that, plus the damp in winter, so it’s generally kept clear and dry.
Lots of love, cut wood and bake cake
That's gotta be a T-shirt slogan!
It's going to be SO funny when "the previous owner" ,Derik starts answering to Derik in the local. 😂😂
Wish we could be there to chip together and help y'all lug all your things down. Bless you both, wonderful video.
I would splash out on an All Terrain Buggy or similar to help with transport. Keep up the Inspirations. You are very lucky to have such an ideal spot.
Two interesting personalities combining their own specialised knowledge and unique abilities -- amazing how you found each other!
Love your channel I've watched from the first one - really enjoyed the usual cinematic editing too, the views and surroundings are so lovely so why not 🤷🏼♀️
We will continue to give the two cinematic episodes each week, these diaries are like a little extra which don't take as much time to produce. Thank you for watching!
At least you’ve got cake…. And an amazing place to live. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.
Saved the best for last “cake”.
🎶🎵 As I was walking down the beach one bright and sunny day, I saw a great big wooden box a-floating in the bay….🎶🎵. Reminded me of that old song.
I like your honesty!
Enjoyed this just as much
Excellent! We have so much filmed material that does not flow with the overall feel of the bi-weekly episodes, we thought we'd share what we have for you in a slightly different format. thanks for watching and your support.
I think you could put anything out for us and we would love it. Do you cook at all, make bread or that sort of thing?@@TheScottishIsle
Yes, we'll include those sorts of things in the diaries. 😊
So cool to see your lives day to day! Love from a Somerset lad holidaying in a sunny Pembrokeshire
Here in Germany many households use wood burning ovens to heat their home. (Us included) we need to dry out the freshly cut wood for 12-18 months before use. I think only 3-6 months is way too short and won’t produce sufficient heat. Just saying…. Plastic container would be good place to hide your daily rubbish.
Good on you ,I think its amazing what you have taken on,.I take my hat off to you.Cheers, and thankyou, for showing us,into your adventure.
Curious as to what shelter will you have for your sheep for bad weather and will you pen them at night for safety from environment or predators. Just wanted to know as i was a Shepherd for fifty years. They are very healthy looking. Thank you as i like your vlog very much.
Thank you very much for saying so Laura. Their feet are a nuisance but we keep on top of them, big sheep needs hers trimming monthly! We have a wee stable for them right on the side of the house, like a posh lean-to...honestly, you wouldn't believe it, they have heat lamps in the winter, and we line it with wood shavings. They also hate the flies so they've got fly screens to hide behind! You can see their stable in one of the other recent videos. I love that you were a shepherd. I'd love to have some more and milk them. Big sheep is a dairy breed. Kx
So enjoy your vlogs! Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching.
I really enjoyed this video. I understand you enjoy editing, but I often prefer the raw real life. That's good for a chuckle I enjoy people just being human... warts and all
Thank you!
Absolutely wonderful please keep them coming and sorry about your car x
Thank-you for your support. It's sincerely appreciated.
Your Scottish tartan skirt looks very similar to my Mother's clan ... the Marshalls. They immigrated to the US in the early 1800s but retained the tartan in much of the family clothing and blankets. All the best.
That's lovely to have a link like that. I have a few things belonging to my grandparents which I also treasure. Kx
Rather looks a bit like a dock float. Might inquire of your fisherman friend.
Fab…I loved being with you both , well I felt that way …the cabin is lovely ..
Everywhere you turn is so incredibly beautiful and something Mother Nature has created. If I live there I would get no work done just adventuring around the island looking in all the nooks and crannies. That Burrell was really fantastic and when you move to the front it looked more like a warty nose troll with Moss hair over one eye, or maybe it's missing and eye. Please Harvest The burrell, it may bring you enough to fund your projects. Much love and appreciation from a Scottish woman in Sunny San Diego California.
Thank you!
That wire is heavy to transport. It’s a bonus if you think laterally.
I enjoyed this so much. No captions, so I missed some of your conversations. I thought the big plastic bin would have made for a good storage of garbage so little animals wouldn't keep making messes. It would be my dream if you had a 24 hour live webcam installed. You could face it in different directions when you felt like it. Probably expensive, but maybe could provide revenue in some way. Just a thought. Wondering when winter will come in?
Will finish the captions in the morning! :)
That strange container that popped up could be used as a raised garden bed, just put drainage in it, fill it with soil, plant stuff.
🤔
There are a couple of nice flat boards under your office that may make for a woodworking project of some sort.
100% We think they'll become bookshelves..!
Absolutely loving this channel. I can not wait to see how it all turns out. When you get some YT dollar, get a go pro and show us the boat crossings pls, they sound tricky. 😀😀
We're currently filming everything on two Samsung Android phones. Actually, on one, because Katie's packed up 3-days ago. Imagine what this island will look like in 4K! All of which is a future dream. Eventually, both the cameras and the audio will have a massive upgrade, but we're still some way off from this being financially achievable.
I think you’re doing a grand job filming now!
Derek. Lol. And cake is very important!
It was either Derek or Bernard. Derek won.
Good luck you two, production quality is increasing in each video. Writing a comment to say im along for the ride. Cant wait to see and hear what youve got installed! Ciao from Malta
Many thanks! Great to have you. We are learning as we go, so we appreciate your comment.
Love your videos they are so relaxing thank you both. That plastic tub that floated in you could use it to store your rubbish to avoid daily sweeping after the martins. I also have a vintage basket I would like to gift to Katie but I can't find your PO box. Let me know.
Hooray for cake!
Pay for the view but actually it's the experience I'd be there paying for!
Yeah, don't leave them bin bags out. What you really need is a big plastic box of some sort.😄
It's not a box. It's a floatation device from a dock. There's no lid to these things.
Good Ever on wards
❤❤
Hello beautifull people ❤
Just having a go at ya Scott...
We're both rather thick-skinned!
Me thinks the gent needs some fierce Irish sweathers......
He's got some home-knitted ones! ;)
I saw the container and thought big water butt. :-)
Just a suggestion, but you might want to consider a buy me a coffee account where viewers that want to help can send a few dollars/pounds to help out. Also there are companies that will sponsor you and send free useful products. One such company is Eco flow that has solar generators. Just a thought, love seeing your beautiful island.
Thank you for the suggestion and kind sentiment. We do have a ko-fi account! We love the thought of eco-flo as well, their solar generator may come in very handy!
🎆
Katie is so pretty
Is she?😆
Yes, she is. And I might add her hubby is easy on the eyes.@@TheScottishIsle
@TheScottishIsle she seems to be, hah
Hi love the videos x why don’t you use the plastic tub that washed up for your rubbish bags till you want to get rid of them keep up the beautiful life x
It would have made a great rubbish container, but it's sealed shut and apparently full of polestyrene - it's a floatation thingy for a dock. Shame we couldn't utilise it. Kx
You might want to get a few weeks of extra food for winter and emergencies. Also get some chickens for eggs and meat if you're not vegetarian. At one time I had up to 40 chickens. My son and his friends would come in after school and eat up one or two dozen eggs as a snack and then eat a couple of chickens for dinner with lots of rice and vegetables. Teenagers eat a lot 😋 . I still all these years later keep lots of extra food in the house just in case. Stocking up is well worth it.
We will certainly stock the winter larder as soon as we can, that's a very sensible suggestion. Chickens we'd love as we've had them before (they just roosted in trees completely safe from foxes), but here we have other predators to think of, so we need to build a proper run for them to keep them safe.
to go towards the 12 million quid MOT bill :-D , have you thought about setting up a patreon page for your channel?
Oh thank you so much! Wow. 🤗 We have a wee ko-fi page, we thought maybe patreon would take time away from this channel... What do you think? Kx
@@TheScottishIsle ah great! I didn't see the link at the bottom of the description, I hadn't heard of ko-fi before, looks good and makes the same kind of thing possible, I am signing up😀
@CC-Pi We will definitely put your kind gesture into the MOT kitty. Thank you again.
Love your channel, but miss the subtitles on this episode. I am an American, and sometimes have a hard time understanding your Scottish brogue. Hope you include subtitles on successive episodes.
Sorry about that, I'm working on it! It was a busy day today. Kx
Love the videos.
It would be great if you could invest in some microphones when you can so we can hear you better when you’re standing at a distance from the camera/phone or when you’re in motion.
I’ve had to use subtitles a few times to hear what you’re saying.
Cheers.
Working on it!
Very interesting. Being on an island how do you dispose of your garbage?
Bin collection is every other Thursday... From the mainland.
Are you aloud to burn rubbish in say a big fire pit
I think there are rules against it. Wood fires are not so bad outdoors, but we may as well use scrap wood to keep warm inside!
The whole Floor next to the Flowerbed seems higher than it was, no wonder the water seep’s through the wall and floor…by the way how do get the trash from the island at all… ?
We have to take it over to the mainland and have it picked up!
👍
What is he putting in the wheelbarrow?
Mouldy hay!
I doesn’t matter where you live, town or country, bin bags will be ripped open by scavengers if left out overnight !
We were surprised by them getting on top of the freezer and into the wheelbarrow, though! 🤣 Oh well... Time to get a container.
♥️🇨🇦
Where did you move from to come here.
I'm originally from Lincolnshire. Katie from Edinburgh. We moved from high up a hill in the Scottish Borders to the island.
@@TheScottishIsleJust knew that was an Edinburgh accent!
That plastic box looks like a worm farm to me
🤔
For vermicast compost for your garden.
a free water tank and you let it go
It's still around!
Hot tub out of container
LOL
@@TheScottishIsle I seen it done on an episode of Alone and it works.
Those big slabs will make Great tables or shelves !
