The last of your filming with the moon glistening off the water, the quiet murmur of the water and the shadows of the land in surround, absolutely spectacular and quieting to my soul and mind. Thank you!
Yet another lucky break of being in the right place at the right time. I was collecting wood from one of our stores around 7pm, and as I came down the hill with the wheelbarrow I saw the moon reflecting on the sea. There was no other vantage point where this could be seen, other than exactly where I was standing. Scott.
Put a large biscuit cutter on the griddle first and fill with batter. 😊
Katie looks badass on that quad bike. In her long tweed coat. She gives off Lara Croft vibes......croft, get it? 😂😂😂
Much ❤ from South Africa 🇿🇦
I love Scott and Katy they compliment each other very well. The opening where Scott was singing is hilarious. A beautiful place ❤️🤗
Oh no the situation's getting serious he took off his jacket😊
Brilliant vlog again. So funny with the radio station when you go up the hill. The cottage will look fabulous when finished, all the natural stonework xx
I come from the Edinburgh of the south, girdle scones are available in cafes so I've always assumed girdle was the Scots term for a griddle, so many Scottish words have stayed in use in that part of NZ.
I've since learned that "griddle" is Irish and they were called "girdles" elsewhere in the UK. So, both are right! Kx
@@TheScottishIsle every day a school day, had no idea griddle came from the Irish.
@20:30 Cat Head Pancake! Carry On! I enjoy so much all that you share. Blessings!
I was thinking it looked like a rear view of one of the sheep! 😅
Love what you two are doing to the cottage. I love old world charm. I can’t believe what I see people do to these charming cottages. When you modernize old homes they just don’t feel the same all the charm has been lost.❤️
Love your hap shawl!
Another great video… at one point I thought Katy was going to burn her coat…. Would of ended up being a Blazer 😂😂😂
I’m here all week folks
Oh you delightful brat lol😂
I am from USA 🇺🇸
I like your videos from peaceful play’s

@@liliagolovatch2811 Welcome, Lilianna. Thank you for your enthusiasm, and for watching. We hope you enjoy. Kx
How beautiful the night scene is! The mirror image of the sky is so beautiful
Well you have done it again, another outstanding video. So many highlights to mention. I was impressed with your atv skills, that is what we call your 4x4. I love the emotional connection you bring to your home. May I say the last night shots were amazing and so magical. I was looking for movement in the water of a Selkie. 🇨🇦🧚♀️🐉
Yes Katy is so AMAZING 🤩
Almost as amazing as me. Scott.
@@TheScottishIsle but you never lift a finger, Scott - allegedly!
That girdle looks like it would be excellent for grilling fish. YUM.
One of you is a heck of a photographer!
Katie films her set pieces herself; cooking, fixing things etc. She's now starting to film the occasional vignettes; views, sheep etc. She also writes and records her own monologues for the history pieces. All of the principal filming and photography has been done by me. I also edit the footage for the episodes and create all of the vlogs. Scott.
The fireplace is looking beautifully historic - wonderful.
You made me laugh with your pancake dance 😅
Watching all of those Fred and Ginger movies on TV when I was a kid obviously paid off. Scott.
Beautiful scenery! Love Scotland
You could make a fruit soda bread on your griddle. Need to use buttermilk with the baking soda to make the bread rise. Would make scones the same way using plain flour, baking soda, a bit of sugar, egg, a couple of tablespoons of sunflower oil and buttermilk. Much lighter scones, nice with butter and jam.
Sounds yummy. Kx
Loved this week's episode you two you're great company for each other
I TOTALLY wonder the same things when I see old craftsmanship! It would seem such a feat for me to lay up stones so well and yet, for people all around the world, their skill and experience has been anonymous and at the same time, was instrumental to civilization, not just your home.
Много лет назад мне попалась в руки книга "Чужак с острова Барра"... Два героя - человек и серый гусь. С тех пор меня волнуют Гебриды. ))
Your pancake batter is thinner than American pancake batter. It reminds me more of crepe batter. I bet they taste lovely!
Hi Scott & Katie, not sure if you will get this however, your pancake/Scottish drop scone batter is too thin, when you pour it on the griddle it should start to cook and just spread as long as you pour, once you stop pouring it will spread a little bit more then it should stop and start cooking, for griddle scones make sure the batter is thick.
Katy get a Motorcycle Helmet. Quads can tip earier than you think. And the first bit to hit the ground is your head n face. Also in the summer they limit the yellow bombers that you get. Nice video the views over the water are fantastic. Bet there are a few that could be pictures for an art collection
You are very right. A motorcycle helmet is on a very long lost of the safety gear we need. We literally need to spend £1000s on protecting ourselves here. But it will all take time to save the funds and buy it. Worth remembering that we have only been here since 1st July. We have to prioritise our monthly purchases in order of necessity. Scott.
But Katy’s head is a priority.
maybe the masons had griddle scones, pancakes or drop scones i think they're called down south, next time try making the batter a wee bitty stiffer, my mum, welsh, used to make welsh girdle scones, similar but with raisins in them, the bottoms cook before they spread too far across the gridle. :)
The best reaction to your pancakes 🥞 'can I have some more' Ya know its a job done well.
That last pancake was a kitty cat face with pointy ears. 🖤
Role models!! 👍
I cannot wait for your video, my ancestors are from Orkney Island so I have it in my DNA to just love watching your daily life.
Love the radio station
Add a bit of sugar and vanilla to the batter for a treat. Can add a fruit jam spread on top. So yummy!!
That last crumpet looked like a cats head to me, nothing evil, lol
Loved the cloud tickling the moon at the end there--could almost hear the giggles. 🙂
My surname is Gregg. A cousin did a family tree search maybe 15 years ago or more. Mainly Scottish, some Irish relatives and a family coat of arms. If I remember correctly. My maternal side is 100 percent Swede. The paternal side, came over in the late 1800’s and settled in Pennsylvania. Just beautiful where you live, it is somewhat like the Saint Lawrence Seaway in upstate New York along the border with Canada. A multitude of small and big islands dotted throughout the river.
Try coating the fire place stones with a mix of Water, Vinegar and a touch of Washing detergent, leave overnight and then wipe off with clean water and a using a thick rag. You may have to do this a couple of times but it works good. Your pancakes were different but I bet they tasted yummy and thats the main thing. Take care 💕🇦🇺
I’m trying to follow a knitting chart but Scott has me laughing too much 😂😂 He’s giving his age away with his Brucey impression 🤣😉
You’re a funny pair!
Hi! You both make my heart smile. Yer wee happy face is pure ace. Love Helen from Scotland! Born and Bred! Hugs ❤ lang may yer lum reek. Normally said in new year! Fitting re you doing yer fire. 😊
Maybe make your pancake batter a little thicker. Love your set up. The griddle is cool.
I have a Husqvarna chainsaw like that one only about 20 years older. Stihl runs like a champ. You two always make me feel like I'm lazy sitting in my chair. Thanks for motivating me, even if I don't want to be. Cheers to the video artist, loving land and ambience.
Thanks 👍
Wire wheel for grinder much easier and probably get a lot more off ❤
Best comment any cook can get is "Can I have some more" 🙂
Hey you two! I'm Leslie from Ohio, I just joined your Patreon this past week and I'm so looking forward to going on this wonderful journey with you!
Hi Leslie! Thank you for joining our wee clan. There's so much to do, at times we're not sure where to begin next. But we'll get there and are thankful for your support. Kx
I am so in love with Eesha, Jeeves, Crowdie and Bree. Beautiful animals. I have a beautiful black cat named Ollie who watches them intently too 😻xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
Oh my god , how beautiful was that moon on the water 😌. And to cook pancakes with that view , I would sit there , & make them all day . Amazing !!!.
I love that you are wearing woollen garments. More traditional .
Love your two sheep . Very relaxing video . 👍
I make pancakes and girdle scones on my cast iron girdle 😊😊
another wonderful video with a spectaculair ending. And pancakes are nice, whatever shape they are ;-) Have a nice evening you both.
It might be worth getting something like a Dremel, or multitool with a chisel for that wall mortar
Actually a angle grinder with a wirebrush is the thing. Including all safety equipment, and a full house clean up afterwards.
When I was a kid we lived in a drafty old house that had been built in the 1920s and I remember the clawfoot tub would stay hot for days after a bath in fact we were little used to bring blankets and nap in there
Where ever you choose to live for a homestead...you must embrace all kinds of weather the good and the bad. All four seasons. Rain wind shine cold and heat. Because the chores are everyday...in that weather. No matter what else you have going on in your life. They are showing this ...in a lovely way...and positive attitudes...even in the wet and windy. It takes strong people for this. A great visual of real life to build a homestead so far derelict. And bring it back as well as make it your own for your needs on the homestead of today. Añd the women work with their husbands or partners alone or together. And must be able and ...willing..to work independently...to get things done. 😊
Wow! That really did look like England. X
The fire would be ideal for smoking fish on
The wind is moving the giddle. Its how the taste that counts!!😊
Great to see the interior coming on.
The Jeep is sure coming in handy. I like what you have done with the Jeep step they look great.
In Australia, where a bunch of the scotch ended up, after the clearances, we call them drop scones. I remember my Grandma making them when we visited. Spread with marge (margarine), I loved them.
Lol
Using a chainsaw , and the PPE you chose are ear defenders 😂❤
My ears were not only very well protected, but they were also quite warm. That's a win/win via anyone's calculation. Scott.
@@TheScottishIsle
Lol seriously tho get the protection, plasters will not be enough
One of my friends when repointing one of her wall, she put the mix into her cake decorating tube then just piped it in. Worked really well for her. Xx🇬🇧
Next level barra right there.
Loved every moment!❤🌿
The Brucey impressions 😂 I wonder how many people had no idea what you were on about 😂
Probably 99.9% of those who tuned in.
😂@@TheScottishIsle true! I feel sort of honoured and very old at the same time and I'm only 37!
I absolutely love this channel. Hilarious and relaxing, every single time! As for the food, as long as it tastes good, who cares what it looks like? Beautiful doesn't mean tasty! Like those store bought cakes or cupcakes with all the flavor you'd expect of a foam sponge, and dry to boot. I'd take a lopsided one with messy frosting, but some flavor and moisture in it, any day!
Your scenery shots take my breath away. The last pic of the moon on a dark Scottish night was brilliant. You are a lady of many talents Katy. What a fun way to make your Scottish pancakes. My Dad was from Scotland and he always called my Mom’s griddle a girdle. Mom made little Scottish pancakes and we buttered them when they were hot and sprinkled them with brown sugar. Yum!!
The fireplace is looking amazing. Love the look of those beautiful old stones. If only if they could talk. Have a wonderful week guys. Love your channel!!❤
95% of all of the filming of the island and the views (the moon, for instance) are taken by Scott. He also edits and creates all of the vlogs you are watching. We love you being here!
Just sublime and the most calming music .
We have a new selection of harp tunes which have recently been negotiated for use here. If you like the music we have been including in the vlogs you will love what's to come. These will be making their first appearance in Episode 32. Scott.
Always a joy to watch! Thanks
Wedges keep pressure off your chain. If you don’t use them, at some point your chain will be pinched and I will hear you from Canada
I have loved watching your progress so far Katie & Scott, as for pancakes I usually make them in a large frying pan…..that way they can’t run away from you 😅 10 out of 10 for using the authentic method and having a go 👍
Kaytie you are one cool gal😊
Try using a cutter pour the mix inside it.
When washing use white vinegar
Spectacular full moon shot!
Thanks! Scott.
Katy why didn’t you open the gate to bring in the load? Just curious. Enjoy the video and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Dale and Barbara USA
It's the only 'off-roading' I get to do! 🤣 Kx
❤❤❤❤
Have you tried a little less milk with the pancake batter? We have our pancakes with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon sprinkeled over it after cooking, very nice 😊
Sounds great!
So funny, you had me laughing out loud with the "crumpets/pancakes". They looked delicious. Yum.
The girdle itself is not flat. It seems to be a little higher in the middle. The part of the girdle, about the size of Katie's hand (fingers included) from the middle outward, could be turned up just a scosh.
Another wonderful vlog. The location & cottage is just so beautiful. You are both definitely living my dream. I also love the banter between you both. Always makes me chuckle. & the Humber gets a mention too! I live on the peninsula of the Humber; it’s like the Outer Hebrides here, just not as beautiful or as hilly…..it’s just as flat as the pancake lol
You need fresh lemon juice and sugar on top of those pancakes….yum
Good on you for using your ear defenders, Scott! This means that Katie won't have to yell at you to be heard when you're in your 70s! And now, shall I send you some eye protection? And if you're really going to be completely safe, some shin guards. I don't mean to be a pain, but I have one friend who became completely disabled when he was in his 20s, doing what you're doing. And another who spent months healing from cutting his leg half way to the bone, doing the same. I just don't want that to happen to you! On a different note, the hearth wall is looking SO GOOD! I'm glad it's working better at keeping the house warm. The original builders definitely knew what they were doing. Have a great week!
❤️
Was surprised to hear mention of the Humber - I live 6 miles south of the bridge!
Would have loved to taste the 'pancakes' - mushrooms or jam next time?
I often think who put the walls I live in jez from Yorkshire
Surrounded by water, I would be trying to catch fish
It's almost impossible to catch the mackerel from where we are situated. We need a boat to go further out to sea. The fish we smoke in a much earlier episode were caught just a little further out from where we are. If it was that easy to catch them from the island we'd be fishing every day. We need a boat!
You should make your batter thicker, so it’s not so runny.
Oh my, methinks your batter should have been thicker! But a nice try anyway! I think you ate going for more of a drop scone, biscuit here in US.
I just dreamt of dramatic skies, pancake mapping and adorably healthy looking pets … do t change a thing I love the realness of your videos, nothing fake everything as it is .. thank you keep it rolling , you give us so much and your hard work is acknowledged 🥰Hannah hawkswell comes to mind Katie ❤️🐑🐏🦌🐈⬛🐈⬛resourceful and hard working beautiful person🪵 🥞
A lot of hard work involved in renovating those stones
Hello Katie, I'm glad you were able to change Brea's bedding this way she will be Healthier.
Good job on driving the three-wheeler 🚜 with the cart, to fetch the bedding material. Also your pancakes🥞 that you cooked outside on the griddle looked yummy 😋 good job Scott at chopping the wood 🪵🪚 looking forward to seeing 👀 the next video ❤️
I love that you are collecting and sharing stories from the locals such as a house being built like that in one week is amazing!!! The beauty that surrounds you is amazing and i love the sheep ,thank you !
Glad you enjoy them! Kx
When your cutting wood, wear chaps, a friend almost lost his leg cutting wood. Another neighbor died 2 weeks ago after a tree fell on him. 51 years old. Always be careful.
I'm not sure how I missed this video, but I just watched it. I think you are both amazing. I'm still trying to figure out how you know what to use the chisel on. It all looks the same to me. I'd end up breaking rocks and suddenly finding myself with an unexpected window into the next room.
😆 We may actually end up chipping it, as some is sandstone. Will just have to go slowly and hope for no extra windows! Kx
@TheScottishIsle I suppose the good thing about going back and watching an older video is already knowing that you have managed to avoid reducing the wall to gravel and adding an unanticipated window above the fireplace. It's very interesting that adding drywall insulated the rock walls from the heat, so they were unable to absorb it and radiate it back. It's like you're letting the house finally take a breath again.
🤘That’s a cool pancake.🤘
Right on. I thought it looked like that logo from 1990s band East17. 😆
Nice❤
Woo hoo you have a 4 wheeler, that’s going to be a massive help. Katie, you were a badass on it.
Pancakes looked edible lol I’m sure they were delicious, Scott was impressed. I’d eat them with some maple syrup.
The fireplace wall is looking great!! I know what you mean with the stone radiating heat. We used to have a wood stove and the surrounding bricks would get toasty warm.
We have a pellet stove now so the bricks don’t get warm.
Funny how you pick up that radio station through the new mics.
Awesome vlog Scott and Katie. Wish they were longer :)
Funny, the pancakes looked more like wraps. Thin dough
Another great video! You are doing a great job. The views of the island are just beautiful and that last shot of the moon over the water - wow!
