I live in southern Appalachia. Like most Americans that have a history of their kin folks, the majority of us here have ancestors from Scotland, Ireland and England. At least in my community. I know the names of my grandparents back to the late 1500's. Many, many from Scotland. I appreciate your videos because they've allowed me a glimpse into the world that my kin folks arose. It's a pleasure seeing the landscape, weather and beauty of the countryside. It's very similar to my own area of these mountains. I understand a bit better why my grandparents perhaps felt at home here. Your labors about the homestead you're renovating is lovely. I thank you kindly for your efforts of sharing this with me. God bless you both and best wishes from America.
Please don’t let the negativity of miserable people spoil the beauty and inspiration you so thoughtfully share with us all. I have enjoyed EVERY moment and EVERY video you have put out! Carry on and know that we are all here supporting you both! Love from Louisiana, USA! ❤🌿
The negative comments we receive are literally 0.000000000001%. They are very easily ignored. However, once in a while someone will write something that really does get under the skin. Thank you for watching.
Lovely ❤. Only a few miles away from us on another remote island. But we also know a 90 year old chap who lived for a time in this very same house. God bless you both, sheep and cat!
That last scene on the sofa was just lovely! The scratching of the sheep's head was also fun to watch, as was the archery. Your videos are getting more and more fun :)
I am still so amazed at how beautiful this part of Scotland is. Rugged, challenging, but beautiful. I used to love archery when I was in high school, which was many, many years ago. It was one of my favorite activities and, if I say so myself, I was pretty good. I think Scott does many things but may choose to not always be filmed. And there is no doubt that Katie works hard also. You seem to have some skills that many women don't necessarily have, that have been very helpful during the transition of making the island your home. Your archery clip brought back many memories. The environment I was in, was nothing compared to yours. I love how happy the sheep were when you brought the bale of hay/straw for them and I love your closing clip with you both enjoying your time of rest and your cat being split between the two of you.
Thank you for this encouragement. It's so nice to hear that people like yourself can relate to the videos, but we can still show you something new and peaceful and the same time! Kx
Thank you for taking the time to tell us how much you enjoy what we are doing. It really does help us to stay focused and continue providing you with the best regular content we are capable of producing.
Lovely photo of you two. Reading doing knitting i imagine the roaring fire out of shot cup of hot coco. The leather sofa and the room divider behind you ( forgot what they are called), absolutely delightful. Love the art deco style of the lamp on the left
It's always such a delight to visit with you on Sundays! I love the new music (of course, I loved the original music as well!). The blissful look on your sheep's face when you were brushing her was so sweet. I'm very happy that you both share whatever of your life you choose to share. So, whether it's hauling wood, reworking the drainage around the house, clearing the byrne, excavating a spring house, demo-ing the ceiling of the living room, hauling hay, tromping all over the island, shoveling seaweed for the garden, reworking the stairs to the house, or any of the myriad other little back-braking things you get up to, Scott, I think the thing I most appreciate is the dry sense of humor. You can't go wrong with a good Monty Python quote.
Oh my word! The beauty of where you live is just beyond anything I've ever seen in my life!. Those little stairways leading up the hill! You could just imagine a little fairy village on the steps. Wow Scott, it was so interesting seeing and learning how you use a Longbow because I watched a film only yesterday about how Henry V won the battle of Agincourt and the role the 'Longbow' played in helping to win thè battle apparently.(I don't like war but I enjoy history). New to learning about this era of history so I'd never heard about this form of bow before and it peaked my interest. So I found it so interesting when you showed (pardon the experession!) us your Longbow and how you use it. Always loved the history of Robin Hood too, and I loved you sharing your childhood dream about wanting to be Robin Hood. It is these childhood dreams that goes onto inspire our adult interests and creativity.....and why not I say!!!. Love the videos, love the scenery, love the music and love watching you two beautiful souls.
He does more than push around a wheelbarrow of wood. He's a very good video editor! Sitting at his desk in a chair made out of a wheelbarrow would be a fun illustration.
We’ve also lived on a small holding and it’s often the case that you can literally spend a lot of your time moving nature or blades of grass or wood from one spot to another….it takes a lot of time and creative energy …Sometimes in slow motion…..that’s the reality of life amongst nature…..recycling and reusing what’s available…….It’s a totally different experience and I really enjoy the slow pace of your videos…..it’s half of the charm and you are both very charming……we watched you brushing steps recently and that just about the truth and pace of it……….and watching you sanding the fire place reminded us of our own often very slow paced renovations…………🙂💕
Another stunning Video , beautiful views , scenery . You both must be super fit now , with all that wood to move around . I just love the harp music . 😌
My favorite John Denver song has always been his song about Jacque Cousteau, "Calypso". Also "The Eagle and the Hawk". My relatives laugh that coming from Colorado (Rocky Mountain High) my favorite song is about the sea. Go figure! Of course, I do like the song "Colorado Christmas" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (showing my age 🤷)
Oh my, you two are the hardest working people I’ve ever seen!!! You just get on with it so cheerfully and carefully, you have alot of people wanting you to succeed and who enjoy your clips….
Hello. I had to write to you both because you both had me laughing. My family and myself are hugh fans of Lord of the Rings and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. We always make comparisons to them in real life situations. Glad to see another fan. Your sheep are so cute. I used to work on a ranch and took care of all kinds of animals including a small herd of sheep. Only about a hundred or so. I have to say I enjoyed playing with all of the babies. My father taught my brother, sister and myself how to shoot what he called recurve bows. Had to string them the same way. We were fairly young. My brother started when he was 8 years old and both myself and my sister did the same. Those bows were way taller than we were so we really had to work hard to learn how to shoot them. That was 50 years ago and we still have those old things. They aren't used anymore. We have them hanging in the house so we can always remember those wonderful years we had.
We are an archery shooting family. Husband shoots tournaments and hunts with a compound bow. Makes and repairs strings. Sometimes shoots a recurve. Oldest son owns a Bow shop, he makes strings, arrows etc. Enjoyed seeing you shoot. P.S. what was the missus knitting? That's my hobby.
Thank you. I didn't know you had twin barras lol A bit more practice there Robin and you'll be able to split the arras ;) I was waiting for Capital FM to tune in when you were carrying that hay.
Katie how on earth do you manage to still look so well put together and attractive…. You have only the basics with you but still look blooming fabulous!!!!,
The pipes have always scared a very large number of people away from the channel, especially when they first come across it. So we needed to adapt the opening of the episodes and ease new viewers into them, rather than scare them off.
I knew you cut wood from the very beginning when you moved there because it was going to be your source of heat and it needs time to dry out. In order to get enough wood for the winter ready you would basically have to cut right away and pretty much continue it probably for months. People are hilarious. My husband cuts a lot of wood and it is not our main source of heat. And you will have to continue because you have to get wood for next year as well. If there wasn’t a stock of wood already then you would have to cut even more as to not get behind for next fall and winter. Silly silly people. I absolutely love your channel by the way..🙂. I love it when you talk about the history of things. God bless you both. Nay Nay is my grandma name- Renee aka Nay Nay.
Scott, your archery skills are impressive! Also, don't listen to those folks who I doubt have ever done the work it takes to cut, chop and store wood. And think you're actors sleeping in a hotel on the mainland - ha! That was a good laugh! Anyone who has heated with wood, as I have, will understand the old saying, "Wood warms you twice." Love the shots of the frost on everything - beautiful! Thanks for sharing your Hebredian (sp?) paradise with us! Be well.
So far no negative Kens or Karen’s complaining that you don’t do anything 🤦🏼♀ Whatever happened to if you don’t have anything nice to say, DONT😃 LOVE YOU BOTH🤘🏻🏴🇺🇸
Just do what other Yoh Tubers do....block the Kens or Karen's and don't take any notice. We don't need them on this channel. It's perfect just as it is....many watchers finds these videos so enjoyable because they are soooo relaxing. I love watching them.
Great video! I love John Denver and listen to his music a lot on U-tube. One of my sons many years ago introduced me to Monty Python and I found them hilarious
I must say that was some fine shooting. I haven’t used a bow and arrow in 40 years, but I did love it. Your photography is stunning, that one with the lonely leaf is beautful.
Thank you! As soon as we can seriously update our filming equipment the images can only improve. We can't wait to be able to film the island properly and show it to you all in it's full glory.
I truly enjoyed this one, especially the cozy couch and the lovely work you have done to the cottage. Do either of you whittle? I think that would be a lovely pastime to do as the sunsets. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and and the work you do day to day. Have a great evening.
Thank you for watching. Neither of us have tried whittling or carving. With the amount of wood all around us it could be something we try in the future.
Absolutely love Scottish whiskey!😋 except the peaty ones from jura. However they make a good mix in bbq sauce. Bruadar malt whiskey liqueur in choc chip cookies and cheesecake. Monkey shoulder in pulled pork etc,etc
😂😂. You are actors that only moved there to find the sunken ship’s whiskers that was hidden on the island somewhere. This has all been the preamble. 😂😂 love this channel. ❤
Enjoy watching the both of you. You have a great life together. Sorry people run their mouths, but that's people. Probably someone who's never done a day's work in their life. Bless you both
Your little homestead seems to be much like ours, the pets are always considered first, I'm in charge of the firewood supply and the wife comes up with most of the ideas. You lugging that bale of hay reminds me of an old painting I once saw. In fact most of your videos, if you take them as still shots, could be worth painting. Did you ever think of taking it up. That target stand would make a pretty good easel.
The is not a single part of this island that does not have its own beauty. We are truly blessed to be here. That bale of hay was much heavier than it looks.
Love seeing your adventures and all the hard work that Katie puts into the Island. LOL. Just kidding, you both are doing a great thing and many people would love to do what you two are doing. You both are so brave. Keep the videos coming.
Good fun watching you using the bow and arrowing Chris. You got such beautiful scenery as a backdrop Katie :) Love puss trying to work out where its going to sit.. hillarious!
I love your channel! It’s one of the reasons I decided to come back to Scotland. I’m currently roaming around Scotland in a rented car. I was roaming around the Highlands and I had every intention of exploring the Hebrides, yet I somehow managed to decide to go up to the Orkney Islands which I will do in a few days. Sorry, Hebrides! Maybe next time
What an amazing life you are live my sister and myself always said that if we had lots of money we do something like that but age has gone against us now.
Brought back memories with the bow and arrows. We have a bow and arrow hunting season and it's cool weather here when they hunt deer in this state. Back in the day they would teach archery in high school. Was the worst! They didn't have bows for left handers. There was no where to rest the arrow to line it up before letting it fly. 😂
Hello Katie and Scott, nice video today. I enjoyed hearing about all of your daily tasks. Along with Scott explaining about sorting the wood for the fireplace, I didn't know wood needed to be separated out in that fashion. To be able to burn better. Also listening to Scott tell about his archery experience was interesting He's a good shot. Looking forward to seeing more videos upcoming. Thank you for taking the time to post this video for all of our enjoyment.
Many thanks for tuning in. At this time of year, collecting wood becomes all consuming. Very much a necessity. But it keeps me fit and warm, and keeps money in the bank! 😉
🙋♀️❤ Your daydreams and imagination are the best fun. The cottage looks so cozy! I dont know why, but I imagine you two creating a nativity scene with the sheep...Lol!
The cottage is both cosy and incredibly warm. In one of our very early episodes we were informed by someone that we "didn't have a clue and would be dead by the end of winter", I kid you not. This made us both laugh out loud. We hardly ever take such nonsense seriously.
You made that archery look way too easy, the sheep would still be at risk a mile away if it was me!! I'm a knitter as well, only been going for a couple of years. Haven't knitted anything on the straight needles since I was a kid, cool to see. Looks like something rather cabled, can't wait to see what it ends up. ☺
Really enjoying your journey and watching your process. There is always something different to watch. Keep it up loving it. From Tommy in west Lothian.
I love seeing you and do not want to miss a single one of your adventures. I live in the US near the beautiful Ozark mountains. I did not know there was anything more beautiful until I saw your island. As an artist I wish I could paint almost every frame of your videos. Thank you for sharing it with us. Y’all take care!
We have one under the cabin which is being filled daily. The wood up on the hill was cut up there, hence it being stored within metres of where its been chopped.
You two are a perfect mix of humor, history, trials of daily livin'. Best channel ever. Love that you're an Archer Scott, both my kids age 11 are competitive archers for school. What's your draw length and arrow length...Santa needs to send you some carbon fiber arrows from the states
We include all that both entertains and interests us. If other people enjoy this, then that's great to know. We will eventually have a PO Box (an alternative address to our own) for people to contact us. But this won't be until sometime next year, as it's quite expensive to do here in Scotland.
We love your Chanel…..it’s back to nature and relaxed …..We’ve lived in the Scottish Highlands and understand the natural rhythm and pace of life…The effects of the beautiful expansive space and beaches on the spirt……please resist the pressure to perform ……we love your authentic spirits and gentle calm souls……sending big hugs 🤗
Thank you for your encouragement. We are noticing how many comments say that viewers find the pace relaxing, and we're happy to give that escapism and peace to folk. Kx
Wood, the fuel that keeps on giving, it warms you up when you cut the tree down, it warms you up when you cut it up, again when you split it, and then yet again when you move it to store it. It is so selfless and so easy replenished not like oil or coal.
This was an awesome episode !Would be interesting to watch you make some new arrows for your sharp Bow very impressed quite a sharp was so beautiful shooter indeed I’ve always wanted to a bow I took classes years ago but never bought a bow!
We’ve a wood burner it’s hard work getting the wood ready for winter but I’m afraid many people don’t understand this way of life as much anymore. Beautiful place you have also hard work xX Really enjoy watching on a wet windy day.
Scott when you mentioned about getting comments from people saying you don't do anything. Karen nearley wet herself with laughter. Tbh...I'm green with envy about how lucky you both are to live away from people. Katie's talk about Isle of Rhona...was that a hint? The cats approve of the new opening music without the bagpipes. The bagpipes used to send them running out of the lounge.
Love this channel too. It's so enjoyable. Thanks guys for sharing your wonderful adventures. I love the sheep and the cats. What a fantastic life you are giving them on your island. Being nosy I know, excuse me, but would love to know how you both decided to do what you are doing and what you did before you moved to your island. Thanks again.
It took us 5 years from the point of conceiving this lifestyle to finding the right property on the right island. It was a long process, but worth every second. We were antiques dealers and restorers before moving here. Something we will pick up again as soon as we have established ourselves here.

This is the best channel ever to have come out of RUclips. Share it far and wide, these genuine people deserve it!
Jealousy. Easily ignored. You live on a Scottish Isle. They don’t.
Lovely ❤. Only a few miles away from us on another remote island. But we also know a 90 year old chap who lived for a time in this very same house. God bless you both, sheep and cat!
Love watching you two. The wall behind you is so beautiful.
That last scene on the sofa was just lovely! The scratching of the sheep's head was also fun to watch, as was the archery. Your videos are getting more and more fun :)

I am feeling so envious! Wish I was 30 years younger and up for such an adventure! Will instead enjoy your posts, and wish you all the best!
Loved your sheep with her eyes shut, both eating, and being brushed! And also how Jeeves (?) follows you both about everywhere! Gorgeous!
That 25 minutes and 54 seconds went by so fast. I love this channel.
I feel 😢sad that people criticize you, you have so much courage to live the life u live. I say bless you both and thanks for sharing.😊
Thank you so much! Kx
I love how beautifully you film the island I never miss an episode. You guys made my day and I love your humor.
... I never knew that a sheep could have an expression of bliss until.I saw you brushing Brie.

He does more than push around a wheelbarrow of wood. He's a very good video editor! Sitting at his desk in a chair made out of a wheelbarrow would be a fun illustration.
I would call him a pro, the filming is excellent.

I totally agree with best channel !!! Certainly in my subscribed viewing it’s hard to match , keep up your real living you lovely folk ! ❤
I love the harp music. Lovely videos.

In month one of the channel someone called us "The most unproductive couple on the internet", which made both of us laugh out loud.
Hello. I had to write to you both because you both had me laughing. My family and myself are hugh fans of Lord of the Rings and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. A thumbs up doesn’t do it justice. Your videos never fail to make me smile. Have a great week
Many thanks for watching and enjoy your week, too!

That's cool, we have lots of shared interests. I'm making a sweater for Scott. Kx
Thank you. I didn't know you had twin barras lol
A bit more practice there Robin and you'll be able to split the arras ;)
I was waiting for Capital FM to tune in when you were carrying that hay.
Katie how on earth do you manage to still look so well put together and attractive…. You have only the basics with you but still look blooming fabulous!!!!,
It's all smoke and mirrors, and a little bit of CGI. ;)
So relaxing. The winter colors of nature are just magnificent with the bit of snow/frost on the leaves, grass, and different objects.
That cat does love you. I've watched it follow you all over the island.
Esau follows us both everywhere. Jeeves is a home-bod and very rarely leaves the safety of the house.
Love the harp opening! Peaceful!
The pipes have always scared a very large number of people away from the channel, especially when they first come across it. So we needed to adapt the opening of the episodes and ease new viewers into them, rather than scare them off.
Enjoyed your shooting! Very impressive! And I chuckled when you started singing "Robin, the Hooded Man"! I loved that show!!
Cats are hilarious. The last scene😂
Music is Divine! I love your Channel. Kind Regards Catherine NSW Australia
Nice shooting and the cat is SO dramatic LOL!
O wow I love the lamp to left of couch
As he's a very good wood chopper, he's a very good aim with a bow and arrow... 😊🏹👍
I also make a very nice cup of tea.
I’ve always loved the long bow. You are very good with it as well.
I knew you cut wood from the very beginning when you moved there because it was going to be your source of heat and it needs time to dry out. Delightful just delightful
You 2 are what “good humans” are all about, they should manufacture you both 😊
🥰

It's only taken me 20 years to be this proficient! ;)
The new music is beautiful, please thank your harpist friend for allowing you to share it.
We agree. A massive asset to the channel. We will pass on your regards.

Beautiful. Just what I needed for my lunch break... AND I need to talk the husband into buying me another cat, and a sheep or two.. 🐑🐑🐈⬛🐈⬛ xx ❤🇦🇺
Another wonderful video. You should pressure wash that outside table and restore it. Very unique.
I truly enjoyed this one, especially the cozy couch and the lovely work you have done to the cottage. Do either of you whittle? I think that would be a lovely pastime to do as the sunsets. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and and the work you do day to day. Have a great evening.

You know, as soon as we have the funds to buy a high-end metal detector, I WILL find that treasure! 😉
Enjoy watching the both of you. You have a great life together. Sorry people run their mouths, but that's people. Probably someone who's never done a day's work in their life. Bless you both
I`ve loved watching the change of seasons from high summer to edge of winter. So beautiful. Keep warm and safe on that treacherous path. ❄

Just love that clock at the end Cheers.
Appreciate your time to the channel…love watching ❤🤗
Thank-you, and many thanks for tuning in!
Maybe next time
Orkney is fab! Send us a wee email if you would, and we'll give you a tip! scottish-isle@proton.me
@@TheScottishIsle Hello, just sent an email 😊
What an amazing life you are live my sister and myself always said that if we had lots of money we do something like that but age has gone against us now.
Brought back memories with the bow and arrows. We have a bow and arrow hunting season and it's cool weather here when they hunt deer in this state.
Back in the day they would teach archery in high school. Was the worst! They didn't have bows for left handers. There was no where to rest the arrow to line it up before letting it fly. 😂
They would never have allowed us - as kids - to have bows in school. Even javelins were highly supervised.
Brilliant vlog, however, the end scene with you two sat there with the clock ticking, is pure magic. It’s therapy to my ears. Thankyou.xxx
Thank-you!
Also screen love it
Good sh
ooting Scott, almost all bulls eyes. Another great video. I look forward to them and the shorts.
Another awesome video!!❤
Katie is currently knitting me another sweater. This will make it my third. Next: Socks!
Love the killer Bunny 🐰 refrence an the troll cave
Very drunk trolls Too funny :)
If you don’t already have one you might do yourself a favor and get a pickaroon tool for picking up/moving firewood. Your back will thank you.
Really enjoying your journey and watching your process. There is always something different to watch. Keep it up loving it. From Tommy in west Lothian.
Still working on catch up but glad I have so many to watch,,,LOVE LOVE YOUR CHANNEL❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Thanks so much.
My late dad use to sing the same song! Play the guitar too. ❤
My mother, like Katie's late father, was a huge John Denver fan.
Lovely episode
Is the bow wood yew? Very nice. Ok yes, good wood choice.
I would like to see what you are reading, what you are sewing and....... love the channel!
I'm reading 'The Trials of Charles the First'. Katie's knitting me another new sweater.
16:26 Awesome roll - I'd have been making some verbal comment of awesomeness if I'd rolled that!
I think that was attempt four... 😆 Kx
Kati, when you started to sing "Brave, Sir Robin", I just about lost it! Keep up the good work!
You're the first one to mention it!! Kx
Great video however you need to make a wood storage shed closer to the cottage.
😅 I love you both. You make me LOL! And I enjoy the beauty that surrounds.
And let's not forget the financial savings that harvesting your own fuel dictates. Many thanks for watching.
Too funny I had just thought they should get a 2 wheeled wheelbarrow! Never saw any with a windshield though!
You both work so hard. You have a Beautiful Paradise ..Katie You did an Amazing job on your Moms Cook Book❤
Refreshing--thank you both.
Wow you are good at bow😊
This was an awesome episode !Would be interesting to watch you make some new arrows for your sharp Bow very impressed quite a sharp was so beautiful shooter indeed I’ve always wanted to a bow I took classes years ago but never bought a bow!
Really smiling at your humor shown in this clip! Still envious of you both though!
We’ve a wood burner it’s hard work getting the wood ready for winter but I’m afraid many people don’t understand this way of life as much anymore. Beautiful place you have also hard work xX
Really enjoy watching on a wet windy day.
Island was so beautiful dusted in snow ❄️
Classic shot of you two, and Jeeves at the end.
Appreciated the reference to Gandalf😂
Scott when you mentioned about getting comments from people saying you don't do anything. Karen nearley wet herself with laughter.
Tbh...I'm green with envy about how lucky you both are to live away from people.
Katie's talk about Isle of Rhona...was that a hint?
The cats approve of the new opening music without the bagpipes. The bagpipes used to send them running out of the lounge.
I Love that last shot of you both, with your cat❤
Yeah there you are!!!
