Glad you got the new harp music....it's beautiful! And I don't know which of you has the eye for framing still shots (maybe both of you??), but you always have some beautiful shots....well done!
Katie is quite the accomplished hiker. Honestly every time you show your surroundings it looks progressively more and more beautiful than the last. Wow video #34, I've seen each one and it didn't seem like 34.
Hello again from L.A. California 😎 the mail situation there is awful ! How maddening!!!! people are so uncaring these days, you have my sympathy . I really appreciated the old pictures and the sharing of history those were tough people back in the day . And then you ended it with those precious sheep ❤
Think that was your best vlog yet ! It had everything. Beautiful filming and photos ( especially of the ice and frost on the shore line ) cute sheep , history, making your own hay net with the sound of the rain and clock ticking in background ( which reminded me of my gran/ grandads house 😊) but best of all your humour ! “ Well I’ve just banged my head on that arch for the last time ! “ , sorry Scott for your pain but you crack me up , you too Katie , I love your smirk when you’re up to something. Look forward to the next vlog 👍
I had a wee giggle because Bree couldn't get up those steps fast enough - and Crowdie did a jig before digging in 😂They are too cute, I want to cuddle up with them under the lamps!! Oh please, don't get me started on couriers and Australia post! 🤬Let's not go there!! Beautiful vid as always, thank you my lovelies xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺
Many thanks for taking the time to recognise this and write about it here. Many have no idea just how much time these vlogs take to film, edit and broadcast.
What a fascinating, ancient island! What an adventure you folks are on to live your life like nobody else so you can live your life like nobody else! Your videos are well done!
What beauty that surrounds you,you are so lucky, never take it for granted many of us are looking at neighbors houses and listing to traffic. What a beautiful peaceful place your living in. Thank you for sharing
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode (enjoy them all, actually); the humor, the folklore, the scenery, the music, the craftiness, the sheep. Thank you for sharing your lives with us!
My husband is 6'4" and I am also tall, and we both felt your pain. Nothing worse than hitting ones head. Ugh! I love how enthusiastic the sheep were about the lovely treat. They never cease to amaze me with the level of understanding and intelligence that they have. That tree was awesome. I could see it being the perfect tree for a house. I love the trees when all of the leaves are gone. I love seeing the pattern of their branches. They are a work of art, in themselves. Nothing better or sometimes, crueler than nature and yet, so beautiful. Thank you.
North ronaldsay, when last there a young lady Councillor I think was in charge of the sheep etc ,old age has dimmed the memory not the joy, joffey being my favorite sheep😅😅😅
Scott I giggle every time I think of you saying you banged your head on the arch for the last time you are so funny.. it was a bit 70's anyway and you will be able to walk easier now
This channel is filled with of surprises I hate missing the lives and love catching you both every time I am able to , then catching up for more… I feel like your life is my imaginary life I love it ! Even tho it’s romantic in a way I am aware it will be and is very hard living as it always was and always will be . Certain types of folk are able to achieve this and you are both those kind of folk❤
Just thinking why don't you have a net for the hay and then there you are Katie making one. We also had a cold snap here in Denmarke minus 15 deg at night. Now we are back to rain wind and fog. Its like autum. ❤
I love your videos and everyday life/ When you finish your video with a peaceful view at the close of the day, I'm filled with a calmness that lasts for quite a while. Thank you.
Your honesty and candor about the challenges of vlogging is refreshing and among the many reasons we love your content. Great job getting rid of the arch! Not banging your heads is definitely a priority. Thank you for all your hard work. We appreciate you guys.
The wood reminds me of when I was a boy of 6 and got a Rupert book to keep me entertained on a long train journey . I vividly remember feeling i didn't like that kind of wood. I lived in Canada, and the trees grew straight and tall. English trees (and apparently Scottish trees as well) had to contend with less sun and longer periods of cool weather and tended to be more contorted, thicker and stockier... Gives a gloomy look. Likely not true for all of the trees in Britain.
The island is a beautiful place to explore…I love the treehouse would love to see you build it back 😊. You have a lot of skills and making a net for the sheeps hay was nice and Brie thought so too 🤗. Love you both ❤️🤗
That tree that has the tree house in it reminds me 9f the tree that caught Ron Weasleys flying car. I think it was called something like whomping willow. In Harry Potter
Something to, maybe, help you climb up, and down, a hill is to walk sideways. Like walking uphill in a pair of skis. And walk in a more zig-zag pattern. Like a cut-back road. ❤
I love your boots Katie may I ask where you bought them from. They look so nice with your dresses which I love. I love how brie follows you around and like a pair of watch dogs they stick close by and make sure you have not left them. They are lovely. Those still shots are beautiful and I love the wee bit of history you share with us Katie. I love your channel Katie and Scott and enjoy the banter between you both and I love the music you have for channel.. So soothing and relaxing and you both are very good story tellers. Thank you for sharing.
I'm in love with you guys. Between your humor, sharing history, cute pets and gorgeous views of the island, it just tickles me. (As my grandmother used to say). It makes me smile. Katie, great idea about using the yarn to make a net. I'm glad Bree likes it. I'm an avid crocheter and lover of natural fibers. Have you used your sheep's wool to knit with? Do you spin? I've been making everyone sweaters for Christmas and my fingers are right done in. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for the beautiful scenery.
Thank you! I've got a spinning wheel, but so far have only practiced on the drop spindle. Once we shear them in the spring, I'll keep their wool to spin. Sweaters are such lovely gifts - like a hug from the maker whenever you wear them! Kx
@@TheScottishIsleI just crocheted a faux” Aran” jumper for one of my daughters .I also crocheted myself a patchwork jacket .I found a basket of unused balls of wool at the flea market ,there was lots of off white which I made the jumper and the jacket was made from lots of lovely bright colours ,a lucky find.
I love the stillness of the shots of your filming. Reminds me of sitting on the banks of water area’s on Uist in 2005. Could have sat there all day with the quietness and stillness. Wonderful
I appreciate how you mention history and the daily lives of everyday people. I get a little sensitive about my ancestors and have wondered if they prayed for us . I’m an American, my ancestry is Scottish and Irish and a few other things. I’ve wondered at times if I were to go to Scotland or Ireland, would it feel familiar . Why is it we have a longing for a place we’ve never been to. God knows that and maybe that’s why He has told us where our true home is.
It's my belief that we feel that way because we know inherently that ancestry is important. Just look at the genealogies recorded throughout the Bible...your family tree is what makes you who you are. Root and Branch! 🤍 Kx
I'm not sure why, but my both my sister and I have felt that same longing, that same connection to Scotland, for a long time. I learned to play the bagpipes in high school. She married a man (American) who is descended from William Wallace, her hobby is Scottish Country dancing, and they've been to Scotland. It makes us wonder if our family was originally from there.
I don’t normally make comment on vlogs, but I love yours. I especially enjoyed the scudding clouds and the harp music. I also love the fishing talk, how very true about the ‘glue of life’. Good luck to you both.
Not in Adelaide, we had a hot muggy day Friday, then that night the thunder came in, and it's been bucketing down since. I think hubby has measured 60mil over weekend.
Love listening to your stories , & amazing scenery . Your sheep are so clever , never realised they could be . Imagine walking around , & not seeing another person . That must be so magical. Thankyou , for a very relaxing video .😌
Katie, I love your mini-essays about everything and anything. And your net bag did the trick with the hay. I guess wool is OK with the sheep, eh? And Scott, your shots of the frost are beyond words wonderful. I'm puzzled about the frozen water, though. I was assuming you looked out onto a bay off the ocean. Or am I just totally misinformed about sea water being too salty to freeze? Also, I just love the "new"music. Stay warm!
I think that particular bay is just so secluded and still, that it does freeze. I've never seen frozen seawater either...maybe the fact that it's close to land and some freshwater running off the hill means the saline content isn't that high? Kx
Be interesting to see how well the homemade hay net fares. Can I suggest you pass the drawstring through the bottom of the net and pull it up a bit so that the net doesn’t sag when empty with the danger of the sheep catching a foot in it.
The island seems to be a lot bigger than I thought. You are still exploring what you have and finding new interesting views. I am a former postman and I am ashamed of the treatment of your mail. I always had an empathetic way of looking at my delivery. Would you want your mail delivered in such a damaged condition? Happy Holidays.
The official posties seem to have a lot more integrity (Royal Mail), David, but some companies in particular are terrible! You know, back in the 50s/60s, the PO had their own boat over on the mainland, and one of their posties would row over to the little inhabited islands here, in all weathers. Men took pride in their work, as you say. Kx
Yet another great video! 🎼 Just curious but were you humming the song 'The girl from Ipanema' in the sheep pin? It sounded a bit like it. Love a good Frank Sinatra song!🎶❤
Love you both. Scott you are not alone. Several times, including this week here in Maine USA, I received other people's items in my demolished package. Obviously other packages were also demolished and the content just shoved into whatever box was handy. Keep up the great videos.
Enjoying your podcasts very much. Questions: Since it’s an island, how is your electricity furnished? And why does it matter where the deer roam? How many buildings are on the island and how big is the island? The trees are absolutely beautiful there!!!
You'll find the answers to your questions in various vids already. 😊 There are electricity cables which come across the sea, by the channel where we cross over to the mainland. The deer fence keeps them out of the cultivated part of the island. There are just a handful of buildings, including ruins. Kx
Bree has . . . a bow-legged wattle going on. It's so cute! That said, I'm wonering how the cottage is doing; you mentioned that you'd just experienced your coldet night, so far, Scott. Several videos back, one of you said that the cottage ws holding heat better after removing added-on wall coverings. Is that still the case, with the colder temperature? And, I don't want anyone to feel like they're reading a longg novel, do you see the northern lights? 💙💙
The cottage is incredibly warm throughout the day and night. The Victorian stove creates so much heat that it stays within the living room long after it has gone out. The stone is retaining all of the heat and it always warm to the touch. The only rooms which the very cold temperatures can be felt in are the small hallway and room behind the central door and the bathroom. Unfortunately, we have yet to see the aurora here.
I've heard a lot about the harsh life on the islands but you two look like it's fun . Do you still have an antiques business or isn't it possible living there with the deliveries being difficult ?

I live in a small town in America in Arizona and I have not been able to order anything off of Amazon in The Last 5 Years just because it is so frustrating to try to get anything delivered out here as well I had a $500 tankless water heater that was delivered to me with a boot print on the box
I read on facebook from some non-vloggers, complaining about the vloggers they watch -- as you say, they do not understand! I have a channel too, and I film by myself. Unless you want a really boring video, you have to move your camera, get yourself at different angles. Ugh! It is quite time consuming to pre-craft the editing, and then edit again later. You both are doing a marvelous job, and never listen to the whiners out there! :) I'm surprised (as a non-sheep owner) that they need heat lamps with their fleeces and the nice shelter. Also, when you say you will be building up livestock, is that more sheep, or other kinds of livestock?
We'll get chickens once we can build them a safe place, and in the spring, we're going to get an orphaned lamb from a local farmer friend to increase the number to three! Exciting. Kx

Lovely video!
Fascinating channel.
Thank you very much! We're glad to hear you like it. :)
I live in a small town in America in Arizona and I have not been able to order anything off of Amazon in The Last 5 Years just because it is so frustrating to try to get anything delivered out here as well I had a $500 tankless water heater that was delivered to me with a boot print on the box
Well, you'll know exactly what it means to make do with what you have on hand! Kx
The tree house could be a hyde for shooting deer etc
I read on facebook from some non-vloggers, complaining about the vloggers they watch -- as you say, they do not understand! I have a channel too, and I film by myself. Unless you want a really boring video, you have to move your camera, get yourself at different angles. Ugh! It is quite time consuming to pre-craft the editing, and then edit again later. You both are doing a marvelous job, and never listen to the whiners out there! :)
I'm surprised (as a non-sheep owner) that they need heat lamps with their fleeces and the nice shelter. Also, when you say you will be building up livestock, is that more sheep, or other kinds of livestock?
We'll get chickens once we can build them a safe place, and in the spring, we're going to get an orphaned lamb from a local farmer friend to increase the number to three! Exciting. Kx
Intermissions: girl from ipanema?
Got it!
It looks like a hide for shooting 👍
The couriers in question obviously hate their job and their clients. What a pack of w...... I mean charmers. Bless their cotton socks.
