I am married to a “Richard” 😂😂 he worked in construction for 20 years so does all of our home maintenance and building, plumbing etc. He does mechanics and welding. He has a large workshop and garage. Friends are always dropping in for help with their cars and pickup trucks. He also never throws out anything he thinks will be useful!
You so lucky! I'm a widowed pensioner and getting anyone to do a proper maintenance or renovation job is terrible. I've got so stressed that I ended up in hospital.
@@gillmalouf9517 I am. He loves a challenge and is a real problem solver. His next project is a 40 ft container for our retirement home (already started). The deadline is 2027 when he retires. I tell him what I want and he tells me if it is possible. If he can’t do it, nobody can!
I married a carpenter, and likewise I never hired out for any household repairs or builds. Fortunately, my dad (also a blue collar guy) taught me how to use tools and I was my husband’s apprentice because my husband had a stroke 8 years ago. Now I use the tools, and he’s my instructor/assistant. Folks who know how to do handy work need to teach their sons AND daughters. Cheers from warmer than normal Illinois.
Willie, you should use the ‘top down’ method for stacking and lighting your log burner. It not only heats up the chimney fast but you just stack it up with logs and kindling at once. Two logs on the bottom first, laying in some ash from last fire, then 4 or 5 kindling sticks stacked on top of the logs like jenga then in the middle of the top kindling add a natural firelighter or your screwed up paper. Light from the top and it’ll gently burn down to the logs and heat up the lum faster and create a good draw so there’s less or no blow back! Nice firewood by the way! Kiln dried hopefully as there’s way less chance of creosote on your chimney and burns hotter.
That’s the way l build my fire, works really well. We always have a good two inch layer of ash in the bottom, since that’s our main source of heat all winter we burn about 3 full cords each year.
Gosh, in all my years l never heard that before. Watching everyone in the family light fires I've not seen anyone do that, will suggest it for everyone, 👌👍thanks😊
We all need a Willie and Sarah (and Jack Spaniels) in our lives…and a good friend named Richard! So happy to see you all and watch Winter approaching Skye.
Willie and Sarah....I came across your channel soon after my husband passed away in October 2022. I enjoy and look forward to your weekly videos. It means so much to me to be a part of your lives on Skye.

Without realising it, I've slipped into a new Sunday routine - making a lovely Sunday dinner and then watching the new Skye life video as I eat it. Always a joy seeing your new antics!
Good morning Sarah, Willie and Jack Spaniels! I wait eagerly each week for your latest video and I love them all! Thank you for letting this Ohio landlubber vicariously enjoy the Isle of Skye and snippets of your lives! Your videos are so much fun to watch and I really enjoy them!
Cool to have the laundry soap work out ok. We have used the chestnuts in a cloth sack as is before and they worked nicely also ( bought them at a craft show). Willie, I love how you have been able to fix up things on your truck with minimal cost, it is looking great!
The steps rust out because of moisture trapped between the step and the covering, previously the rubber. The new plates will probably do the same. However, they look fantastic, much better than the rubber ones. Brilliant little job well done
Your Buddy Richard is a good friend. Nice job with that step. You live in such a special place. Who can say...Oh...Look...3 swans just swimming by. I love it. I see you hitting 50K real soon!
The steps turned out really great and I like the grip plate on them. Loved to see Jack at the end in the bloopers as he was'nt about much in the video. The pictures you won sarah are amazing and look really speacial over the bed.Lovely fish for the freezer and nice to see Richard appear. Stay safe all of you and a cuddle for that wonderful Jack Spaniels.
Another video that makes for a relaxing Sunday, thank the three of you very much! Several years ago I watched a RUclips video by artist Jessica Henry Gray wherein she painted an owl in watercolor. Afterward she held a drawing and gave it away and wonder of wonders, I won! It's a lovely painting and I'm very happy to have it, so I understand how you felt when you won your prints. Congratulations! You could post half an hour of Jack sleeping in front of the stove and I'll bet people would watch it. It was snowing here again when your video popped up on RUclips and that intro bit of Jack and the fire was very welcome. ❤
Happy belated Birthday Willy! Sarah, the pictures you won look great above your bed. A special hug for Jack Spaniels. I love Sundays because of you three 💜💜💜
My sister's and I went to Scotland in 2010 for a Clan Grant reunion where I fell in love with this amazingly beautiful country. Going to Skye was my dream destination. Unfortunately it was only a day trip, not nearly long enough by any means. My heart longs to return!
My Grandfather McBain ( McBean) is from Inverness. He was a POW in the Dunbar Battle and sent to the US by Cromwell never to return home. I truly believe that's why I like your videos so much. I feel home. Makes sense with my revelation . Thanks
Cracking job on the Landrover steps, they should last for more than a year now. However electrolytic corrosion between the aluminium plates and the steel base is very likely to hasten metal munching. You could delay it for a while by painting the top of the steel and the bottom of the aluminium with a layer of bitumen paint. I am looking forward to seeing more of Jack Spaniel in your next video.

You can steep chamomile or elderberry flowers with the horse chestnuts and that will add a light scent without adding a staining agent. We use horse chestnut soap to wash linen because it is effective at cleaning but not harsh on the linen. On the Land Rover steps, you might want to grease those hinges with marine grade grease with a really low freeze point. Those hinges are going to seize up as it gets colder and they ice up.
