- Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the 'Skye-Lifers' start preparing for the harsh winter months to come by stocking up on essential supplies.
Plus, Sarah puts her foraged laundry detergent to the test and Willie starts putting his stamp on the Landrover Defender.

I would epoxy the edges of the step plates so water can't get trapped between the step and plate and cause more rust.
My Dad told me about your channel and your puppy Jack sooo cute
Your having a babe😂
She came, she saw, she conkered!
😂
I am married to a “Richard” 😂😂 he worked in construction for 20 years so does all of our home maintenance and building, plumbing etc. He does mechanics and welding. He has a large workshop and garage. Friends are always dropping in for help with their cars and pickup trucks. He also never throws out anything he thinks will be useful!
You so lucky! I'm a widowed pensioner and getting anyone to do a proper maintenance or renovation job is terrible. I've got so stressed that I ended up in hospital.
@@gillmalouf9517 I am. He loves a challenge and is a real problem solver. His next project is a 40 ft container for our retirement home (already started). The deadline is 2027 when he retires. I tell him what I want and he tells me if it is possible. If he can’t do it, nobody can!
I married a carpenter, and likewise I never hired out for any household repairs or builds. Fortunately, my dad (also a blue collar guy) taught me how to use tools and I was my husband’s apprentice because my husband had a stroke 8 years ago. Now I use the tools, and he’s my instructor/assistant. Folks who know how to do handy work need to teach their sons AND daughters. Cheers from warmer than normal Illinois.
Happy Sunday everyone 😊
And to you, too 😊
Happy Sunday!!
Willie, you should use the ‘top down’ method for stacking and lighting your log burner. It not only heats up the chimney fast but you just stack it up with logs and kindling at once. Two logs on the bottom first, laying in some ash from last fire, then 4 or 5 kindling sticks stacked on top of the logs like jenga then in the middle of the top kindling add a natural firelighter or your screwed up paper. Light from the top and it’ll gently burn down to the logs and heat up the lum faster and create a good draw so there’s less or no blow back! Nice firewood by the way! Kiln dried hopefully as there’s way less chance of creosote on your chimney and burns hotter.
Well I’ve learned something, thank you!
That’s the way l build my fire, works really well. We always have a good two inch layer of ash in the bottom, since that’s our main source of heat all winter we burn about 3 full cords each year.
Thankyou dear people😊
Gosh, in all my years l never heard that before. Watching everyone in the family light fires I've not seen anyone do that, will suggest it for everyone, 👌👍thanks😊
@@alisonlyons4691 it’s only for log burning not coal though
We all need a Willie and Sarah (and Jack Spaniels) in our lives…and a good friend named Richard! So happy to see you all and watch Winter approaching Skye.
Willie and Sarah....I came across your channel soon after my husband passed away in October 2022.
I enjoy and look forward to your weekly videos. It means so much to me to be a part of your lives on Skye.
Jack Spaniels had the right Idea laying by the fire, and it was nice seeing Richard for a short appearance x
He’s such a proper dog lying on the sheepskin rug by the fire haha! 😂 Super cute!
Everyone needs a Richard in their life 😁
say hello to Carole for me
The wood reminded me of my theory of rural life. It’s mostly about filling things, emptying the things and then lugging the things somewhere else. Repeat.
Richard has sure been a blessing to you... so many new skills learned!
There is nothing better than a real fire to get cozy by. Never understood gas fireplaces.
Laundry detergent from conkers! Who knew! Pretty cool that it actually works. Keep warm. ….
❤Luv ya bunches @Willie Scott, @Sarah and @Jack Spaniels ❤
Love that natural laundry soap. Well done you.
Usually I comment how cute Jack is, and he is, but also, a moment of appreciation for all the awesome jumpers in this episode. 💚
Very good jumpers, wish I knew where to buy
@@RebuildRetreat Someone else asked this question - the jumpers are from ‘ Loud Elephant’ who support charities who care for elephants in the wild. Ros
Agreed! THOSE JUMPERS caught my attention too! So stunning!😅😂❤😊😊😊
@@johnspivey4063 thanks for letting me know, I know where I'm going Xmas shopping now 🧣
"You've caught a pontoon!" made me laugh out loud
Indoor and outdoor skills in this one!
Without realising it, I've slipped into a new Sunday routine - making a lovely Sunday dinner and then watching the new Skye life video as I eat it. Always a joy seeing your new antics!
Sounds like the perfect Sunday!
I believe Willie was being a bit mischievous with his sound effects on the wood. Made me smile!
Robin wins the comments this week. Honestly was starting to wonder if anyone noticed that! 🙂
Love Willie's pully😊
Oh my gosh.. Friday night in Canada…and we just found you! Skye treasure!
Love you guys!!
Someday I'll make it to Skye. It's so absolutely beautiful!
Git’ er done Richard comes through in a clutch AGAIN! Bless his heart y’all 🤍🥰
The steps rust out because of moisture trapped between the step and the covering, previously the rubber. The new plates will probably do the same. However, they look fantastic, much better than the rubber ones. Brilliant little job well done
What a nice lifestyle.❤
Cool to have the laundry soap work out ok. We have used the chestnuts in a cloth sack as is before and they worked nicely also ( bought them at a craft show).
Willie, I love how you have been able to fix up things on your truck with minimal cost, it is looking great!
Good morning Sarah, Willie and Jack Spaniels! I wait eagerly each week for your latest video and I love them all! Thank you for letting this Ohio landlubber vicariously enjoy the Isle of Skye and snippets of your lives! Your videos are so much fun to watch and I really enjoy them!
You're the 1st to make laundry soap. Congratulations. The G.W.R. So pretty pleased. 2024 best wishes.
Thank you .
Happy Sunday. We got 1 foot of snow.
We had 1 inch - you win! I don’t mind losing, lol
I could do with 1 inch.🤭
Wow a foot already!! We love the snow, but hopefully won’t get too much this year..😬
@@livingtheskyelife yes that is a lot at 1 time.
It's getting frosty here too on the North East coast, keep warm!
Very cool making the laundry detergent. Never heard of this. Willie, awesome job on the steps. Richard is an amazing friend!
The steps turned out really great and I like the grip plate on them. Loved to see Jack at the end in the bloopers as he was'nt about much in the video. The pictures you won sarah are amazing and look really speacial over the bed.Lovely fish for the freezer and nice to see Richard appear. Stay safe all of you and a cuddle for that wonderful Jack Spaniels.
Happy belated Birthday Willy! Sarah, the pictures you won look great above your bed. A special hug for Jack Spaniels. I love Sundays because of you three 💜💜💜
Ooh this could be my new favourite youtube channel ❤ .
Collect cones easy for starting the fire love your cottage keep warm we have snow good luck
Your Buddy Richard is a good friend. Nice job with that step. You live in such a special place. Who can say...Oh...Look...3 swans just swimming by. I love it. I see you hitting 50K real soon!
I love it to I have been there many year ago xxxx
Looking very cosy
My Grandfather McBain ( McBean) is from Inverness. He was a POW in the Dunbar Battle and sent to the US by Cromwell never to return home. I truly believe that's why I like your videos so much. I feel home. Makes sense with my revelation . Thanks
nice job on the steps wd👍
Richard. Is such a great neighbor!!!
Richard saves the day yet again 😊
Another video that makes for a relaxing Sunday, thank the three of you very much!
Several years ago I watched a RUclips video by artist Jessica Henry Gray wherein she painted an owl in watercolor. Afterward she held a drawing and gave it away and wonder of wonders, I won! It's a lovely painting and I'm very happy to have it, so I understand how you felt when you won your prints. Congratulations!
You could post half an hour of Jack sleeping in front of the stove and I'll bet people would watch it. It was snowing here again when your video popped up on RUclips and that intro bit of Jack and the fire was very welcome. ❤
Willie I love yiur jumper
Hello Sarah& Willie, Jack, happy Belated birthday Willie❤🤗 all , today I turned 58 years young Nov 26 I had a pint
You don't need suds to ckean. I have been doing all our laundry on cold since the electric price hikes. I was surprised to learn that many countries aeound the world only ever wash on cold. I've been impressed how well it works with eciver and it's saved us a fortune!
Y’all are a good team. Howdy from the high desert of Texas.
My sister's and I went to Scotland in 2010 for a Clan Grant reunion where I fell in love with this amazingly beautiful country. Going to Skye was my dream destination. Unfortunately it was only a day trip, not nearly long enough by any means. My heart longs to return!
Yay
Plates well done!
Excellent!
Congratulations on the first year in the cottage. It's been an amazing year for content. Here's to a brilliant second year.
Loved the video as always! Getting some snow here in Southern Ontario. You guys will be all set for your winter on Skye. Wish we had a Richard around, such a good friend! Have a great week. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing the artwork guys! So please you like them! They look absolutely incredible framed up the colour of the frames you’ve chosen so beautifully! And a fabulous above the bed I feel honoured 🥰⛰️💛
You’re very welcome! We love them 😊 Reminds us we need to go back to Glencoe before too long!
@@livingtheskyelife most definitely! Would be lovely to meet in person maybe go out for some painting in the hills or if you fancy a go at Pottery I have a pottery workshop too 🥰
Sarah, those Glencoe pictures you won were lovely , especially the one with the Autumn brown colours ! Was wondering if you were still going to do your “ she walks , she paints “ again ? X
Sarah, I use soap nuts for my laundry and for cleaning around the house.
So good! Thank you! Such fun to watch you 'chasing your Dream'.....Each week, such fun...❤😂❤❤❤
Thanks Judith!
Love the music too
Cracking job on the Landrover steps, they should last for more than a year now. However electrolytic corrosion between the aluminium plates and the steel base is very likely to hasten metal munching. You could delay it for a while by painting the top of the steel and the bottom of the aluminium with a layer of bitumen paint. I am looking forward to seeing more of Jack Spaniel in your next video.
Willie and Sarah
Your Passion and love for life is awesome.
My parents were from Paisley .
It's great to see my homeland .
Thank you Guys 🙂
Cheers for the video loved it 🍺🍺🍷👍
The promotion of other small business is a very nice thing to do. Thank you for the content, part of my Sunday evening every week.
I hear you are about to be Skye radio stars
Yup - looking forward to it! 🙂
The Land Rover suits your lifestyle much more than any other vehicle.👍
Will. That checker plate will be good and fine until it gets icy and then you are in trouble as it will be as slippery as.....!! Sarah. The pictures from Discover and Draw are great. I love the brown one best.
You could always use the conker detergent for the more delicate clothes and the more conventional detergent for the heavy duty washing. The steps are a success Willie. 👏👏
Everyone needs a Richard. Looking forward to watching your winter being more settled in your surroundings. Jumpers are getting better 😂
Love to you all x
Belated happy birthday Willie 🎂🎈🥳…as always a super video…..loved the conker soap 👌👏👋
for over night a log in the round works great
I'm a "soaper" so I appreciate this effort. Consider saving all your fats, animal and plant based. Soaping is fun!
Happy Birthday Willie. Im glad you had a good time.
Sarah
I got my tea mug today.
Just wanted to let you know ,
And that I love.
I also really like watching you and Willie and Jack.
Thank you.
Nancy
Aww thanks Nancy! So glad you like it 😊
Hi to you both . Good to see what you have been up too .
Never would have imagined that conkers would make detergent 😮. I collect them for keeping spiders away 🙄.
You are lucky to have a Richard handy man , the new steps look great 👍.
Just love your scenery. Beautiful , Stunning , I’m really jealous . So Thankyou for sharing it . 🙏. Have a good week , & belated birthday wishes 🎉.
Thanks for the catch up. Always good to watch you try new things Sarah. That fire looked really inviting and nice to see Jack Spaniels has claimed his spot 🥰. The Landy is looking good Willie, there’s always something going on at Skye Life Cottage 🙂
Everyone needs a Richard!
Hello from Scotland aswell
Willie, it’s nice to see you enjoying your new Land Rover!
Your videos always make me smile. thanks
Just found your channel. It looks so peaceful, enjoy.
Willie, you didn't look like you were quite over your night out. 🎉❤
nice video guys
What a beautiful picture, Jack laying on the hide in front of the fire!
happy b-day to Willie! well done to him for the LR step refurbishment--they look very sharp. and kudos to Sarah for attempting the "detergent" experiment! cheers!
trawling YT for something to inspire and al go rithim, brought me to you. subbed HNY
We have been watching you fold since the beginning and it's become our Sunday evening staple.
I do have to make a couple comments - PLEASE put the guard back on your angle grinder. Depending on what you have, these often rotate at 5000 to 15,000 RPM. if that cut off wheel fractures, the pieces can become deadly - and low end safety goggles wont help save your eyesight. Also, using a rotary wire brush without a full face shield may end with you having to pull wires out of your face - and they hurt more coming out( - personal experience :-{) !
Happy belated birthday Willie. 🪚🛠️🍺🥃
Great video. Thanks! Very pleased you stepped aside in the closing sequence to give the floor to the star of the show. Thanks again! #wecannevergetenoughofJack
I make my own laundry detergent. And we try to support local friends and neighbors who can, or farm, raise cattle. It's actually a nice system.
I will remember that one! Always up for alternative (and free!) ways of doing the chores.
I think the suds were from the previous washing that were still on the laundry.
thanx for sharing ....happy belated birthday WILLIE ❤
You can steep chamomile or elderberry flowers with the horse chestnuts and that will add a light scent without adding a staining agent. We use horse chestnut soap to wash linen because it is effective at cleaning but not harsh on the linen.
On the Land Rover steps, you might want to grease those hinges with marine grade grease with a really low freeze point. Those hinges are going to seize up as it gets colder and they ice up.
great show
I have a wood burning stove of a similar size and during the winter months I use more than your stock pile folks. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. It will keep me watching LTSL til at least March !😅
Great that you have the ever resourceful Richard as your friend, and I think he enjoys having you guys as his too. Love your Land Rover, such a useful vehicle to have where you 3 live now. xxx
That art you won is gorgeous and the frames you chose look so good against that white wall. Lovely contrast!
The steps on the Defender are awesome, it's honestly incredible how (comparatively) little effort it took to make them look so good again.
Happy belated birthday, Willie, and congrats on the seven fish you caught. At least the lobsters will get a feast before you feast on them!
Thanks so much!!
Awwwww Sara, sorry the detergent didn't work out but yeah I'd give it a try. Great job on the Rover Willie. Richard is such a cutie and seems like a very good friend. We've got LOTS of snow in our forecast within the next few days. NOT looking forward to that! 🥰 What day was your birthday Willie? Mine was the 13th of this month. Happy Belated Birthday! 🥳
