This is awesome to hear. I live on top of a mountain in interior Alaska. Had to clear dozens of trees, and mount the dish SUPER high just to get it working consistently… I’m only slightly obstructed still (just some tree tops as you described). It’s certainly gotten better over time as more satellites have gone up, and it’s great to hear that further improvements are on the way. 😊
If you could make videos comparing speeds between the different dishes, routers, and service plans, that would be awesome. I'm mainly wondering what's the speed difference between the standard equipment and the business equipment along with a priority plan.
Although I haven’t done a formal test, I have owned and tested every dish and plan. There is generally not a speed difference between them, because it’s based on network priority, not throttling. Location and time of day are much bigger factors. But I do agree I need to make a video explaining that and also showing some testing. Thanks for the suggestion, I will add it to the to do list!
Have the same problem. Only had one tree to the north blocking dish mounted on the cabin. Had to relocate the dish to a pole about 60 feet from the cabin. Hope this feature comes online soon so I can relocate the dish back to the roof (cleaner install)

Have had starlink for about 2 years. Was pretty good initially. More satellites launched and the dish oriented itself in a different direction, pointed straight at forestry obstructing the view. Starlink now sucks.
I’ve not purchased a system yet but want to for a cottage in SW North Carolina. However….after watching many videos including yours I am concerned as our cottage only has Southeastern to Southerly sky visibility. A mountain with trees for all quadrants to the north and southwest. Will their expanding satellite placement ever help my situation?
They just need to have the dish point to an open or less obstruction area. In my area it always points northish regardless if there are obstructions or not. Should be programmed to look elsewhere for a better view or the sky if the optimal position isn't clear. Thats the downfall of the actuated dishes. The flat, flat converted and gen3 do not have this issue as you aim them to open sky.
Yep, I believe that's one of the reasons every new dish coming out will be non-actuated, with manual aiming. There are enough satellites in operation where you can point the dish straight up and it works just fine. The problem with trying to manually aim it elsewhere is that there are certain areas of the sky where Starlink can't transmit a signal to. If you are in the US, this would be to the south, over the equator. This "Clarke Belt" exclusion zone is a band over the equator where geosynchronous satellites are orbiting. To avoid interference, Starlink won't let your dish talk to satellites moving in that band. So if you had a clear view due south, it's not always best to point it there, since you can't talk to a lot of that sky anyway. Hopefully the combination of better antennas, more satellites, and Starlink being able to "learn" from your obstructions will improve reliability and performance for folks dealing with trees.
Any idea why my app isnt saving obstructions? I just mounted it permanently for the first time today so maybe it will start to now if it was detecting movement before? Doesn't sound like thats a thing though based on your description.
@StarlinkHardware I reset the obstruction map scan and now I see the dish image and several red dots. Interestingly, first I used kick stand with dish on ground and got 1.1giga bytes per second, then worker put dish atop hay barn and now I get maybe 200mega bytes per sec. Disappointing.
since lately , my Dishy is taking over fifteen mins to register after a power outage .... please note , that's its location hasn't changed since day one an it was working fine.... I'm confused.
Which version do you have? 15 minutes sounds typical for Starlink based on my testing with various models. Gen 3 is the fastest because it doesn’t move. I always recommend hooking Starlink up to a UPS if you have power stability issues.

When the dishy does connect, I don't have any latency or speed issues though. I just think its weird. I have an app that tracks Starlink & GEO Satellites, and there seems to be more than enough traversing my area of the sky.
It’s June if 2024 and I can say little tiny twigs and stuff that would give me interruptions now don’t matter even if I have lots of red on the obstruction map
My Biggest Problem? Is Clouds.. I Live In Mid-Pennsylvania And It Rains Alot.. And There's ((ALWAYS)) Clouds.. 😮😮😮 And, When The Clouds Get Too Thick? I Get Obstructions... I Don't Know How That Can Be Fixed? 🤔🤔🤔 But That's My Problem With Obstructions.. 😎😎😎
I'm using my Starlink at a partially obstructed site for the first time and it's TERRIBLE. The obstructions aren't trivial but I would have thought it would work a lot better than this! I mean MOST of the sky in the Northern view IS CLEAR??!!! I'm amazed how much of the time I have to wait, re-click, re-click, refresh, refresh and refresh to get a web page up, or open a link. Keep launching Starlinks Elon, this SUCKS. Thankfully this is not a long term home for me.
For most games it is great, assuming you don't have any trees or other obstructions to interrupt your connection. Some game servers might have higher latency than others, it just depends. I do recommend using Ethernet instead of Wifi if you can.

If you do not have clear angles to the South, Southeast, and Southwest, you will not be able to perform web video conferencing. There will be no Tesla satellites to the south due to the Clarke beltway. In my case, my cabin backs to a mountain to my North. While I have clear views to the South, I have a mountain to my North. Tesla support worked either me and told me that Starlink will never be an option for me in this location. No amount of added satellites will fix it. I had to return it due to dropped connections every minute.
I appreciate that the obstructed user performance issue is being addressed as a priority, thank you Starlink!

My dish is correctly aligned, but when I do an obstruction scan, my dish image does not show on app obstruction scan like yours does.

Just curious - what is your ping latency real world?
I usually see about 30-50ms latency.
Our ping, (with obstructions), is in the fifties, sometimes thirties, sometimes sixties.

Much of the south sky is off limits to prevent interference with geosynchronous satellites (depending on where you are located).

It could be the mountain. Look at the app and the obstruction map, it should tell you which direction the obstructions are located.

My dish faces to the north . And I am in far upstate ny . Canadian boarder so ultimately it depends where you live .
