Should you use a UPS with Starlink?
Depends on the tree coverage and other obstructions RELATIVE to the satellite traveling past above. These satellites move fast so it is never stable, and it must always hunt for new satellites which come into view.
Probably should wait for the price to drop further. T-Mobile 5G is only $50
How do I do this if it’s at a vacation home in another state?
That looks like a PELICAN case... good design! 👍
Nice review.
Could a gen 2 mini be around the corner? Do you have any insight on when a newer version will be announced?
The Mini has only been out for around 6 months. I wouldn’t expect a new version for another 1.5-2 years.
The real player on direct to cell services is not Starlink. It's AST Space Mobile. Glad to own a bunch of shares.😊
There are a bunch of “real” players, all of which have beaten AST to market, including Starlink (it’s on in New Zealand). Apple iPhone 14 and above users are enjoying free satellite SOS and texting currently, while Google Pixel owners have SOS with texting coming soon. I’ve heard a ton about AST and competition is always good, but I think mostly it’s social media bots hyping it up to pump up the share price lol
Hi I have a Starlink in California and the second in New York. Is it possible to connect them together point to point?
Not that I know of. Data would go from one dish, to the sats, then a ground station to the public internet. Then it would head to your other dish in a similar path, just the opposite way. Starlink probably offers private networks for big enterprise customers but not regular folks.
So now i will be able to do port-forwarding with the 3rd party router?
Thats a bummer. I was for sure Starlink would be their own carrier. We need more competition.
Will there be a Starlink only provided direct to cell? No partners. We need more competition.
Will this bypass geo fencing and use of VPN's? I live in Africa and Work in the Middle East, you can see my problem. This will solve alot of problems for us :) !
So if you do this, and i connected it to my PC lets say, Does wifi still work normally like other people can use wifi too? While im using ethernet. What i mean is when you have ethernet stuff plugged in does the normal wifi still work and ethernet?
can it charge phone or laptop too? like normal powerbank
Yep, it has USB-A and USB-C ports to charge devices.
The vid was great mate !!! just a thought, If I do take the roaming facility, can I install the dish at home... and just use the roam service when travelling in and out of say shopping or visitng mates etc, without actually changing the address as its just for a short period of time.
If you order from Home Depot, you get the military discount as well.
Great info, thanks much
When I think about 32 degrees Fahrenheit being an extreme temperature up here in Fairbanks Alaska it makes me giggle.-15 ° below zero fahrenheit what we consider mild in the winter time.
While the unit is on, it can be run down to those temps as the Starlink dish generates heat and will put it inside of the operating range. Leaving off in those temps however will kill the battery much quicker than 32+. We are in North Idaho and will post some content this winter running extended in - temps.
Lol @ the price... Dude..... But to each his own
So $1000 for a 576wh solar generator when a Bluetti with 768wh costs $379. Not seeing it.
True, nothing special about the battery itself. It’s the packaging you pay for. The Bluetti isn’t as rugged, doesn’t protect the Mini at all, and is more cumbersome to store and deploy. For normal campers absolutely get a power station. The Star-Batt is more for those professional and extreme use cases.
@@StarlinkHardware Understood. I'm just trying to visualize the niche this would fill. I could see professional response teams that need to store it on a shelf, pull it, and go. But these units can't go on planes so not good for government/corporate teams that need to travel. I guess maybe local response teams for a city that use cars. Just unsure how big of a market that would be. But I've been wrong about markets before so could just be my blind spot. Maybe local responders is a big market.
Thanks for this .. just ordered mine.
I’m getting a bottleneck with my router with Ethernet , using all cat6 cables , almost half speed from being connected ethernet directly To Starlink.
Battery exceeds what I am allow to transport on a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft.
How would this due in the direct hot sun of Florida? would a mini shade be necessary?
The Mini would be fine in the sun. I would deploy the Mini externally, it will be fine in the sun. And they recommend leaving the case cracked a bit for ventilation if temps are hot.
@@StarlinkHardware Thank you for the reply, the heat would be my biggest concern about this. Florida sun can be brutal. I still might thing of deploying a mini sun shade to prolong the life of the batteries. I think they should offer this as an option. Like a clamp on shade. Sounds silly but I think it is necessary.
they should just put a solar panel into the mini so it can absorb sun + provide internet at once, :D
Interesting.🤫 I was driving from Colorado to Texas with my Starlink Mini mounted on my sun roof and it was lagging due to overheating. Wonder how that will handle heat if the Starlink is inside with the battery?
Go pro will last 24 hrs if you get an old one like the 3+ black and shoot HD. I run mine off a 27K mah Anker power bank for my surge cams. *** I like this case in your video. Wish airlines would let me travel with it just the batteries are too big. Didn't know the signal would shoot through the plastic that well.
I think my issue was I accidentally kept wireless on, which drains the GoPro pretty quickly. I got more than 24 hours with a time lapse of the solar setup (didn’t include it because it’s just rain and clouds) with a 20k mah Anker power bank.
We are going to be launching a model designed for airline compliance this summer!
@@starbattusa oh I want that one in a yellow case :) why yellow? I can spot it a 1/4 away on the baggage carousel. All my check in is yellow, don't laugh it works!! :)
What type of batteries are used in the Star-Batt Mini, Li-ion, Lipo, LiFePO4? Can it be replaced? Recharge cycle? That's the kind of info that is needed. mAH?
At 3:46 he says it has LiFePo.
@@tracyrreed It doesn't take that long to review a product....so I basically skipped through most of it. This type of review is super annoying by dragging out a what should just be a 5-10 mins review.
Sure but it’s not really a review if people just sit there and list off specs. You can read all that on the product website if that’s what you need to know.
Ouch, that neat case would cost me half as much again as the mini. I'll be holding on to its original box.
What is the wifi range around this box?
The Mini router is good for about 1,200 sq ft, but in my testing speed drops off quite a bit beyond 50-75 feet.
@@StarlinkHardwareThat’s rather weak!
Awesome video
576 watt hours? Half kwh in that case? 🤔 Brilliant if true. When connected, my mini pulls about 17 watts. You should get mych more than 24 hours runtime, if that battery is legit.
It’s legit, we promise it. And back up our promise with a 3 year warranty!
It’s a lot of power in a small case. It ran my Mini for 27.25 hours from 100% to dead.
@starbattusa is it really lithium iron phosphate, or is it lithium ion? Also what's the max voltage and watts on the solar input.
@starbattusa this is the other me. I'm asking because I'd like to buy one for emcomm station supported by Starlink.
A grand? Over and above the mini purchase? Ouch!🤕
We totally get that the price might seem high at first glance, but running a business means more than just providing a price. It means covering payroll, taxes, marketing, credit card fees, research and development, shipping, legal, accounting, customer support, manufacturing, equipment, rent, utilities, insurance, inventory, packaging, software, licensing, permits, compliance, maintenance, warranties, website hosting, cybersecurity, advertising, trade shows, professional fees, training, certifications, ongoing product improvements, and probably a coffee fund to keep us all sane-so forgive us if we’re a little higher than "you can build yourself."
@@starbattusa What type of batteries are used in the Star-Batt Mini, Li-ion, Lipo, LiFePO4? Can it be replaced? Recharge cycle? That's the kind of info that is needed. It would be nice to have the display and on/off button outside.
576Wh LiFePO4 with 2000-6500 cycles depending on DOD. The battery is not removable or replaceable, but is a 3 year warranty.
I Can see search and rescue and maybe even the Gov like FEMA wanting this for after disasters. Since the battery is built in it might be exempt from FAA rule regarding Lithium batteries in check in luggage. I would contact them to them to see. When I chatted with them the rep said if the battery cannot be taken out by the user (like a MacBook Pro laptop) you could check it at the gate in a suitcase. If the battery is removable like a Sony camera battery, that has to be in carry on. If I could check this at the gate I'd take it to every typhoon/Hurricane I go to.
@@starbattusa Having LiFePO4 is HUGE! That explains the increase price and weight. However, it still needs to be more comparable to similar capacity LiFePO4 power station since people can just run a longer cable to Starlink Mini from a power station.
That case is from Pelican. (Peli case).
Sure it isn’t an Apache Case?
Great video and great product for specific use cases. Thanks
Thanks for the review Colby! Great video!
Kool!

question: Can the same plan/subscription, be used with both a Gen 3 and a Mini? Same plan - alternating the hardware depending on your varying use case at the time? E.g. you have the plan and at home you use the Gen 3 with the same plan, when you go camping basic stuff, can you take the mini for the connection using the same plan? So can use either of the hardware for the same plan, depending on your requirement that you decide? and sometimes when you travel, if you really needed the speed, and were happy with the router/240v or conversion and space of the Gen 3, you could use the Gen 3 on the roam scenario, with the same plan that the mini may be using? Same plan - alternating hardware?
No, each hardware needs its own subscription. You could have two and keep one paused, alternating which one you unpause to use.
If they said it would be free to Tmoble customers then it should be that for Tmobile other than that it should be a free to other customers. Tmobile do not say something and not keep your word.
Am I correct in saying that a recent update on the Tesla Model Y disconnects the Car Lighter Socket when you exit the car? Then when you enter the car the Starlink Mini has to reboot or startup again? I think this happened recently. Curious if you have encountered this at all. Thanks.
That is correct. If you hop out at a charger it won’t shut off, but if you park and get out it will turn off the power to the outlets. One workaround would be to add a power bank in between. So the power bank powers the Mini, and gets charged from the 12V outlet in the car. But I didn’t find this necessary as the Mini only takes a few minutes to boot up.
tighten the shit out of it and throw a tek screw in for safety!
Love the mini. Live in the mountains and can drive 150 miles back to the SF area and can work the entire way without disruptions. Can’t wait until the 1 Gig satellites go up.
How about Roam Unlimited plan? My friend has a roam unlimited plan on the mini. He has it in Texas. He’s going to liberia for two weeks will he be able to use it? Liberian authorities signed the license agreement back in October. Service on the map Q4 2024.
Roam plans have international data now, so it should work assuming Liberia isn’t asking Starlink to block access.
Lag screw.
I am hooking starlink gen 3 up with this router next week. It will be in the attic in the middle of the home on a 2 story. Should it be faced downward toward the home so the single is aimed in the right direction? Or am I just not understanding how these things work (which is prob it). Thanks!
I’m not 100% sure on the signal pattern, but I would guess it favors horizontal. You could try different orientations and speed test at the lowest level to see if there is a noticeable difference.
Any idea how many hours of use I can get from the Anker Power bank from fully charged?
About 2 hours with the 20k mah model, over 3 with the 27k mah model. I did a runtime test: ruclips.net/video/P2r9ucPurSc/видео.html
@StarlinkHardware thanks
Need help... We travel about half the year and we do not want to buy both dishes, what dish and which plan is recommended for our situation?
I would get the Standard dish with Roam Unlimited if space and power aren’t limiting factors.
That is not what I need. I need one provider for all over the world. Don‘ t want to deal with all those paper spreading Total failures.
For a monthly internet price, it should be free. If I could get unlimited internet for 59.99 I would get it. It's a bit too pricy for me
