    Great video. I'm getting my CDL and wanted to get Starlink Mini for my road hauling, but didn't like the idea of mounting it outside of the truck on the roof. Not only is it difficult to get up there due to the height, but I'm too afraid of it flying off as I'm driving. So knowing it still works inside the truck with a LOT of window real estate up front is huge and there aren't a lot of videos about this either.

    If mounting on front windscreen, is it better to mount it flat to the glass and hope there’s enough sky view to pick up satellites on the angle, or to find a dash mount that allows you to angle it flat onto the top of the dashboard where one end of it is touching the windscreen glass but the other is a few inches away from the glass? (Hope that makes sense!)

    Hello, thank you so much for the video! I’d like to place it on the inside, on the panoramic roof, but I’m worried it might overheat from the sun. How did you handle that?

    • @DISHY_tech
      @DISHY_tech  2 месяца назад

      The mount I used leaves a nice gap in between the glass so the air from the climate control can circulate. While driving it's not a concern, as the climate keeps the temp down, and usually glass roofs are tinted. These antenna's are made to be outside in the sun all day anyway. I haven't had an issue yet.

    Starlink needs to adjust to find the best signal, so how does it do that with your "fixed" mount?

    • @DISHY_tech
      @DISHY_tech  2 месяца назад

      The dishes have a large 110 degree field of view, so they don’t need to adjust to find a signal. My dish, pointed straight up, can see all the sky it needs to. There are enough satellites now that optimal alignment isn’t that important.

    Am I correct in saying that a recent update on the Tesla Model Y disconnects the Car Lighter Socket when you exit the car? Then when you enter the car the Starlink Mini has to reboot or startup again? I think this happened recently. Curious if you have encountered this at all. Thanks.

    • @DISHY_tech
      @DISHY_tech  Месяц назад

      That is correct. If you hop out at a charger it won’t shut off, but if you park and get out it will turn off the power to the outlets. One workaround would be to add a power bank in between. So the power bank powers the Mini, and gets charged from the 12V outlet in the car. But I didn’t find this necessary as the Mini only takes a few minutes to boot up.

    Thank you for your helpful video. I just have a question. I just got a Starlink mini and it looks like it needs to be on an angle to "align" with the satellite. Is that a problem with the horizontal direction of the suction cups?

    • @DISHY_tech
      @DISHY_tech  3 месяца назад

      It won’t be a problem if it’s flat or angled. It has a 110 degree field of view, so it should be able to get a signal whether it’s flat or slightly angled, shouldn’t matter.

    I have a Chevy Tahoe and the standard size Starlink is currently on sale for $299. I bought one but it only has the normal AC plug adapter for a wall socket. Could I use a Car Power Inverter 12v DC to 110v AC with Starlink? The inverter has dual AC outlets so I could plug the cord into that and then the DC end into my vehicle? I’m concerned about shorting my electric system in the vehicle or even the power adaptor for Starlink?

    Good content, as always. Congrats!
    Do you know if it's possible to change the service address (including the country) in the SL account in order to get cheaper monthly prices from other EU countries ?
    My case: I just got the Mini dish in Romania (my native and shipping country).
    When ordered 1 week ago, I chose for the 50gb Mini Roam plan wich cost 40 € pe month, like in all the EU countries.
    Anyway, I paused it until the dish arrived, so didn't use it at all. I am still in the 30 days return period.
    I would have chosen the unlimited Mobile Regional , but it cost 100 € in Romania (same in other 3-4 poor countries).
    Meanwhile, I found that the unlimited roam cost only 60€ in the majority of EU countries (especially wealthy ones).
    Now, I would change the service address to Italy, where the unlimited cost 60€, but I am not sure if that would block my access or not.
    What do you think?
    Thanks!

    • @DISHY_tech
      @DISHY_tech  5 месяцев назад +3

      Starlink won’t allow you to change the country on the account, but you could wait the 3 month period to be able to transfer the dish to another account. Set up a new account and subscription for the new country. There is a risk Starlink would enforce the 2 month travel restriction like they have been in Africa.

    • @silviuflorescu6838
      @silviuflorescu6838 5 месяцев назад

      @@DISHY_tech , I think it's easier for me to return it, I am under 30 days since I got it.
      Then, will create a new account on italian address (my cousin's who lives in Rome), ship it there, activate it, then ship it to me in Romania.
      I will use it in my RV full time, in Europe, so I could send it back in Italy once every 2 monts to reset the period. Or just to cross the italian border if I am near, reset it, then leave again.
      Almost anywhere in Europe, I could find cheap airplane tickets to and from Rome (less than 20euro), so that could be an option, too.
      Thanks for your answer!
