If you're using Starlink when you go camping, have you run into issues where it didn't work well because of obstructions from trees? Or is it just me? 🤣
not just you. i could visualize the satellites going past the trees. every few minutes the service would go out for 30 seconds. i had to apologize to co-workers
Just returned from 2 nights RV camping in a state park here in Washington. Lush, old growth forest with tall cedar, fir, hemlock, etc. Using a tripod mount for my Mini, I was able to find a clearer spot of sky about 15 feet away from the RV that gave me 98% ping rate and only occasional drop. It's also the case that a lot of RVers want the clear skies to power their solar systems. Since I'm in the RV, I don't mind the larger hard shell cases because they have enough room for the Mini, all of the cables and adapters, the tripod, etc. and I have a place to store everything. Finally, as far as data plans go since you're paying $1 a gig (both the initial 50 and each gig thereafter) it doesn't make sense to automatically upgrade to the $150 plan until you're routinely approaching the 150gb usage every month. No sense paying $150 if you're using 100g when you can pay $100.
Using it in an Idaho RV Park. Have it on the RV roof pointing N/W btwn tree cover. It works! Using it for Google TV and all internet activity. Does buffer sometimes at night prime time but it's manageable. Building out my 12 volt to 24 volt hook up. And making shorter wires. All thanks to the hard work you folks do for us on Utube! Thanks Much!
I built a suction cup/ PVC pole for my RV/Mini mount. I can mount it to which ever side and or front/ back that has a more open view. Also built a 12v to 24 volt booster so I could use the 50’ cord to set the mini in the open if needed vs mounting to the RV.
The fact that it is so small and portable and gives you access everywhere is already a tech marvel already. If you expect it to provide high speed internet while covered with trees I don't think that's the device's fault anymore that's on you already.
I've been waiting for a more reasonably priced roam plan and hardware setup from Starlink; they are now halfway there with the reasonably priced plan, but $599 for ~$150 (if that) of hardware??? Would really love to be able to take my Casita out during the work week when campgrounds are quiet and very available, but having a hard time swallowing that $599 entry price point. Great review of the usability from a digital work perspective, that's very helpful. Look forward to your HF pole mount review; another option (albeit pricey but well made and complete kit) is the Flagpole Buddy, $225 - $325.
Depends on how much data you use, really. I use the 50GB plan, and turned on the 1GB for $1 option so it's pay as you go. If you know you will use more than 150GB in 3 weeks, get the unlimited plan for a month then pause it when you get back home
@JourneySetGo I live in the Netherlands and there 't says that per month 59 euro is but I have no idea in how much it really gets. Like in the US 150 is
This is what I have been looking for.. I had a similar experience and it was a huge bummer. I wondered if there was something wrong with my dishy.. How does this compare to doing the same thing with a v2 or v3 setup? I love the form factor of the Mini though so its hard to think I'd need a different dish 😢
I don't think the form factor matters in this regard. I will say that I've learned some more since making this video...I think if I would have aligned it facing North it would have worked better, even with the trees. I was expecting the app to tell me to align, but it didn't so I assumed it was as good as it was going to get. Live and learn lol. I'll make part 3 soon to explain my mistake, as well as review my flag pole setup.
Thanks for sharing your field testing experience. Helpful. I often use my Starlink on a photo tripod to make it easier to move around and point to get the best connection ruclips.net/video/D01Ir5ISUK8/видео.html. An option to consider. Especially helpful if you already have a tripod or two with you.
Did you know you can adjust the playback quality on your side? Click the sprocket in the RUclips video player, then change the quality from "Auto" to something lower...you can go as low as 144p
Dude, are you kidding me. You can move it! 50' cord. Plus if it's important enough go down the road and upload it. This thing is great! You sound like a Karen!!!

Thanks John! Glad to hear it's working well for you
Excellent review with data I was wondering about - Teams Meetings and Screen Sharing. Essentially remote work full time. Thank you!
Thanks! It does a great job for remote work as long as there are little to no obstructions
Agree, I keep the Mini in my Lowepri drone backpack. Best to be lean and mobile in my line of work. Thanks for this video, I learned some things.
Glad it was helpful!

That's awesome! I need to look into some different power options next

You also can buy cable extensions both for ethernet and 12v. But obstruccions have to be considered.
Great video
Thanks!
Love the mini case idea
Since it's laptop-sized there are tons of options!
You need to have a good chunk of clear sky. I assume you weren't familiar with the operational requirements. There starlink app had a way of checking.

I heard the Mini was selling for $299 in Latin America...I'm sure the price will eventually drop here.
Home Depot has sales on chainsaws 😉
The whole video can be summed up by saying, follow the StarLink instructions for antenna placement, in order to operate properly.
Informative. New subscriber. Thank you.
Welcome to the channel! I'm glad you found the content informative. Hope you enjoy the journey with us!
Is starlink mini unlimited data better than 50 gb data for 3 weeks of vacation? which one do you prefer?

I just did a Mini vs Standard (v3) speed comparison which might be helpful ruclips.net/video/p3s8OzNBS8c/видео.html
Did you try just pointing it straight up?
Yeah, I did but still had issues. I probably could have left it that way longer, but ran out of time

Thanks! A tripod mount is a great idea
Consider lowering the resolution of your movies, that 4K eats data.

@@JourneySetGo yes sir than you I run data saver, I watch on an an iPad no 4K for me heh heh
New subscriber here!
Thank you!
Mmm, it's portable, move.
