Starlink's Secret $90 Service Plan Has a Major Loophole

- In this video, I talk about Starlink's hidden service plan that is mentioned nowhere on their website. The "Standard - Discounted" plan is supposed to be only available for select rural addresses in the United States. But a huge loophole in the Starlink account management system allows anyone in the US to switch to this discounted plan, even at locations that don't normally get the discounted rate.
Check out our blog and email newsletter: www.StarlinkHa...

Looks like Starlink has finally fixed this loophole. The subscription I set up for this video has been converted from Standard - Discounted to just the regular Standard plan. The long running discounted plan I have on another account was converted as well. It was an interesting topic to explore, and I like to think this video and you guys helped bring this issue to Starlink's attention so that it could be fixed.
Still workin for mee loll
@@mine_addict wait for it lol
mine changed two days ago 120 btw... meh meh and an extra meh to make it clear I am a real geek, verified 1992
@@mine_addictDid they end up switching you? Apparently you can't change your service address for a few months after the order now so getting this wouldn't be an option unless they somehow re-introduced it again.
Quick tip: jump to 8:10 for the tutorials. Thanks for the effort. It's a great tutorial.
Thank you so much, this guy talks a lot gargabe…..
Thankssssssssss
They activated the GPS in the dish. I tried changing mine and after an hour I got a message saying my location didn't match what I entered and they changed me back to $120. To get the rate down we need to pick a day and everyone call in to cancel and day it's too expensive. If they have a few 1000 drop service they will wake up. It's not fair those of us in the US pay more than anyone else.
In the Philippines, Starlink residential is only ₱2,700/mo or about $47. We're lucky because many here can't afford the $120.
That’s the way it should be. 😊
almost same here in sierra leone
I'm in Texas and I can't afford $120 a month..
Awesome! Thanks for the info. Just did it. Still works as of this comment! Had to go through about a dozen middle of no where locations in CONUS but it worked! I'm located in Hawaii. Thank you so much!
Get to the point !
The kid wants to show off his mustache. I think each morning he counts the number and length of each hair. 😂
lol
Omg, yes
In order to cancel then transfer, it has to be done 120 days from kit purchase, or 90 days from activation.
Well I watched for minutes and gave up. I hope there was some useful content to this video but I will never know.
in Sweden it's only $49/month
and the hardware is $350
Here in western North Dakota it’s 90 a month. My high speed local service is 96 a month and they have excellent customer service! Buying 500 in equipment makes no sense to me. The only benefit would be if I could take this camping but they charge 150 a month now to roam.
TLDR start at just 6 mins in for the crux. Sign up with a Wyoming address then change it.
Well, I don't qualify for the discount even though I'm in a fairly rural area. But even at $120/month I will be saving over $100 per month by switching over from my current cable plan that was unlimited data.
I did the same thing with Dish to keep my Dallas stations. I still paid the same. They said it just couldn't be done. Then I got a great customer service guy. He said ok just give me a DFW address.
I only discovered this lower price when I was looking in to Starlink for failover for my business. I happen to live in an area that gets the discounted rate.
@StarlinkHardware FYI, I can no longer locate a $90 location. I spent 20 minutes looking for one. Maybe you can look for yourself and make an update video. I suspect they may have finally caught on and instead of looking for people who have the $90 plan that shouldn't have it, they decided to make everything $120 across the board.
I suspect their account management system is heavily automated so anyone who is on the $90 plan will keep it until SL forces them to change it for some reason. No more $90 plans for anybody else from here on out that didn't have it already. $90 should be what everybody on the basic plan should pay.
So Order it First…
I am in Alaska it said $120.
Purchased today for $299 + $38 for Pivot Mount.
After i purchased it said $90 a month
I thought that starlink was supposed to bring low cost internet to everyone. $120 is too much. It will probably go up as time goes on too.
Doest not work anymore. Getting message "Please include an address or plus code"
It's not right for Nebraska to pay only $90 when here in AZ it's not densely populated but we still have to pay $120!
From what I can tell it's not all of the state, just certain areas. It's unclear what kind of system they are using to determine what is and isn't discounted. If I had to speculate, I would guess it's based on old data on network capacity in each service cell. So it's completely possible that a service cell in AZ was in more demand than one in NE, even though both may be sparsely populated. I don't think they've updated this incentive in a long time, especially since the waitlist and capacity restrictions are no longer a thing.
I’m down in Yuma AZ, and it’s one of those communities which “balloons” in size in the winter when the snowbirds return to warmer climates, but I get screwed by Starlink since I’m technically in the city of Yuma. (I’m on the edge of the city limits) but friends just to the east of me (were talking 2 - 3 miles only) get the $90 rate but supposedly I’m $120… Compounding matters: even if this loophole still worked I’d be doubly-screwed if I tried it because I’m grandfathered into the Starlink “Portability $25” add on feature (now no longer available), so not sure what’s going to happen if I try to change my service address or cancel my plan. I’m guessing that if I cancel my plan I’ll forever lose my Portability option. I’m paying $145 a month. I’m a full time RVer who parks in Yuma in the winter. If I switch to the RV (now called Roam) version it’s $150 a month - BUT I get to suspend service if I need to. Five bucks difference - but supposedly I’m guaranteed priority service over a Roam account since I’m Residential. Not sure what I can do other than just pay Elon.
If you don't move often you might consider just switching to the normal $120/month Residential plan. It's easy enough to travel with it by just updating your service address when you move, assuming you aren't on the road all the time and tend to stay put in one location for a week or more at a time.
What is your average monthly data usage? The new Roam 50GB plan starts at $50/month. You can buy additional data at $1/GB. If you typically use less than 145GB each month, switching to the Roam 50GB plan would be cheaper than your current plan if you would rather stick with a Roam plan.
I got this discount right out of the gate. Starlink just gave it to me when I signed up. My dad just signed up and it appears the discount is gone. I think a lot of people have gotten it since I did.
Nice video explaining about service.
Why use ten concise words when you can repeat yourself 200 times.
“Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick”
This comment is hilarious. I put the video playback speed at 1.5 and after a couple minutes - even at that speed - I had to kill it.
@@StarlinkHardwarehe meant GET TO THE POINT
@@sprinkleddonuts6094 Thanks for your continued support of the channel!
Tried in Saskatchewan Canada and the map is blue for availability. I put in an address in a small town near me but the discount price isn’t showing. Just the standard price
I just saw the comment about it not working. I just tried again and specifically looked in Minnesota wilderness and found another $90 location. It's just a matter of zoomin on the right spot.
Nice, maybe the locations fill up if too many people sign up there? I have to assume a lot of people watching are using the same area as I did for the demonstration. Maybe Starlink thinks that are is in high demand now lol
@@StarlinkHardware Absolutely. That area you pointed out in the video is definitely not available at the $90 any more because of people using it. I think I actually used a location in northern Iowa for my "location".
I’m literally in the most remote area in the United States, literally have 0 cell service and in the middle of the mountains, and yet there is no discount plan. So this rural places get cheaper discount. The most rural poorest county in the United States pays full price .
They’ve never explained which areas get it or why. I don’t think they have updated this system. It seems like they completely abandoned it and forgot it exists for some addresses.
I live in open range in SW New Mexico. The nearest house is 2 miles away. Sounds like I might qualify legitimately.
Does this still work
How can I change my location from Seattle to Northern Calif? I also use the internet for TV. All of the commercials are for the Seattle area....now, they are coming thru in Spanish language as well as all readable text also in Spanish....
I wonder if this would still work to upgrade to the Mobile plan. I was paying $120/mo for the mobile plan, but switched to residential. Mobile was available when I joined, but not residential.
I don't think so, since they don't have any kind of discounted Mobile plan that I am aware of. Once you switch to Mobile it will convert from the Standard - Discounted plan, at least that's my experience messing around with it!
Mobile is $150 here in AZ!
Elon gonna slap that silly mustache off your lips and launch you into space
I don’t know about the ‘standard discounted’ being only in rural areas.. I’m in the second largest city in New England and my rate is $90… I think it’s more about competition… no one is going to pay $120 for Starlink when faster more reliable wired broadband is available for $85.. because of this, wired areas are also less utilized with Starlink customers.. again it’s a competition thing
You're probably right, I think it's generally correlated to rural vs populated areas, but more than likely it's competition and demand like you said. They probably based it on their own network capacity and the demand in each Starlink service cell. So in New England, which has a lot more broadband options, there wouldn't be a lot of demand for Starlink compared to the middle of nowhere in Nebraska, which doesn't have the same infrastructure.
@locodiablo8130 roughly where you located, i checked southern NH where i was from and didn't see the offer of 90 also checked around the outskirts of Boston and same no discounted price.
I think they fixed it, i'm in the same are where I was able to see $90 but now it's $120.
I believe all of the searching and orders from people watching this video have filled up all the $90 capacity. I had someone comment that the specific location I used in the video became ineligible pretty quickly, but I was still able to find another $90 location. Now, I can't find any after searching for 10 minutes or so.
Darn, I just activated my new service a few days ago so it does not allow me to transfer yet, citing my kit has not been on the service long enough to be eligible to transfer yet.
You can try to cancel your subscription, wait until the end of the billing cycle. Then update your address to a discounted location. Activate service based on that address. If the discounted plan pops up, continue to activate. Then just change the service address back after you’ve completed the order.
In Norway the standard plan is only $57
*If you are eligible "low income", You could use that map to allocate a state on Tribal Land Because then the government under the Affordable Connectivity Program or ACP would subsidize $75 a mo leaving you to fork over $15-$45 a mo/ Under the program you dont need to marry into an Indian clan, pass some green at the local PowWow or prove lineage JUST SOLELY RESIDE ON INDIAN LAND. How cool is that? Also there is a "BREAD" program that is rumoured to cover the entire service cost once new sats come online. Till then I use my Obama phone as a tether.*
i just looked this up because i live on indian land but they ran out of funds so no more acp.
@@ananguyen2737 *Ahh bummer..*
Until they fix it, go through the logs and see you changed your address months ago, add it up and bill you for the full amount you tried to scam them out of.
Maybe, but like I said, I notified them of the issue many months ago. But you have a valid point!
I have $80 in credits currently and my billing cycle last day is tomorrow. If I cancel now and do this, will I still be able to use my credits?
I would think the referral credits are applied to the account, not individual service plans, but I am not 100% sure on this question.
people are getting better speed and latency and half the cost going with T-mobile's inet service.
5G home internet is an excellent option, but availability is very limited. Starlink customers would love alternative options like T-Mobile's 5G home service, but unfortunately, many people simply can't get it at their location. Starlink is a service for people without any other good options.
I'm here because they are about to stop the $50 plan from connecting in a non service area
Hey I have had starlink now for 2 weeks, and I just now ordered a roof mount can I move my dish from my setup location and put it on top of my house?
Yes, that won't be an issue. Just unplug the router/power supply before you move the dish. When it powers on, you will have to do the alignment again in the new location (assuming you have Gen 3).
@@StarlinkHardware yes i have gen 3, thanks
@@StarlinkHardware hey I have now moved it to my roof, and on the app its says it is tilted the wrong way.
I have a question, i will be studying in alexandria egypt for a semester, im from california and in egypt starlink kits are not yet available. Will this method work or would i be required to pay for roam?
Fyi i have my own kit already
FYI I already have my own kit
starlink is not legal in Egypt. Do not bring it, you will get arrested.
@@pdxshredder6883 thanks for the response!
I cancel and have to wait the cycle i buy it in PR and connect there and i get back to my house and now i have to wait the cycle to tranfer
Just did it and it still works
I have a Star Link 2G device. I have a problem with the internet speed of 10MB most of the time. Is there a solution?
I'm in S/W Australia and get around 300Mbps via Ethernet cable into my laptop. But around 80 through the 2nd gen router.
10Mbps is way too low so you must have a problem. There is a website called starlink hardware where you may be able to find help or ask a question. It's an unofficial site.
Starlink insider is another one.
Check the WiFi signal, and do an advanced speed test in the app. Check router to internet speed.
Check the speed, but the problem still persists, knowing that there is no obstacle@@StarlinkHardware
Great. I wonder how long it takes for Starlink to close this loophole. Second setback is the spare part service. It will ship to the address where you are not, and you can only change the shipment address as long as the parts are not shipped yet.
If you already have an account, shipping will stay the same (at the real location). If you are ordering brand new, you can specify a different shipping address from the service address. The only time any address is not the real one is for the brief moment you activate, right before charging it to the real location.
It doesn't appear to be a loophole, some places are unfairly getting a lower price but I wouldn't want to move there!
Interesting 🤔 I've had Starlinnk for two years already and it's great! But the price increased to $120 😵💫
Yep, when I originally signed up in 2021 it was just $99/month. They increased it to $110/month, and then $120/month where it is now.
$139 in Australia money.
@@FranksHairSalon $12,000 in Nippon money.
Super secret service plan?
This no longer works. Have tried 3 dozen addresses as well as the one used on the You-tube video
Thanks for the info. I will verify and put out an update video.
@@StarlinkHardware Please let us know if there is another way to get this to work and thanks for the help.
Any options for ROAM customers?
No, only works for Standard service.
Great video!!
would it still be unlimited?
Yes, it's the same plan as Standard, just at a reduced monthly cost.
Copy number before you cancel. And repeat everything five times.
Why are are you choosing a town? Go to a place in the desert in Nevada or even Wyoming.
Surprisingly the first random place in Wyoming I tried was not eligible.
Can’t you choose a place in the Philippines where it’s $47 a month ?
Hello, dear friend, unfortunately, it does not allow me to change the address, in addition, I use this service in Iran, and due to the embargo, I have many restrictions. Thank you for your intelligence.
Canada we pay 160 plus tax
loll only in us only ..lower prices lower speeds ???
Many countries around the world have much lower service plan pricing compared to even this US discounted price. So it's actually like lower speeds and higher prices for US customers. In many countries in Europe, the service costs 1/2 or even 1/3 of the normal US price, and hardware is often discounted at 50% off as well.
Anyone find this discounted rate in Canada
nope, we're stuck with $140CA
Just like there aren't really tax loopholes, it's just the current policy. You know who would never allow any kind of loopholes and close up any that exist? The IRS lol. I would think if Elon allows a service plan for areas, you're only spreading that awareness rather than exploiting it.
Skip to 5:15 for the “secret” discount plan. Overview: Sign up with an address where Starlink isn’t overcrowded then change the address after you signup.
hi i am in florida if that work
Ramblin' man
I have property in the middle of western no where Utah. Unfortunately it’s $120.
How they decided to apply the discount is unknown, I'm guessing it was based on some earlier data on network capacity. I don't think it's been updated since they launched the plan, and I'm not sure they have future plans of expanding access. To be honest, it kind of seems like they forgot they are offering it.
So your the reason why my bill went from $90 to $120 couple months ago. You ruined it for us paying the $90
So you’re exploiting a way to cheat 😢
Starlink makes the rules, this is just taking advantage of how they set up their system. If it seems like cheating to you, just don't do it.
Stopped watching at 3:00 minutes. He never got to the point.
Sssshhhhhhhhush
22 minutes for 3 minutes of information
Just watch at 7x speed for the 3 minute version!

Doesn’t matter if they fixed it, you are willfully committing fraud, I’m a senior on a fixed income and what you’re doing isn’t right.

'Promo sm' 😋
So you have no problem lying? Says a lot.......
I also tend to go 2-5 mph over the speed limit. What can I say, I’m obviously morally bankrupt.
Have you ever lied about anything?
Gee, great and all that, but obviously this is an unethical practice. Is Musk going to miss the $? Of course not, but I'll know what I did. It's called "misrepresentation".
Valid point. I don’t think most people will lose any sleep, most European countries are paying half the price for service as US customers. High demand = high prices. One could argue about the ethics of that kind of pricing model as well. Not that it matters long term, as Starlink will likely patch this bug soon anyway. Definitely not something to count on lasting, and the video was more of an interesting study of the loophole than a recommendation to use it.
Absolutely RIght! I don't understand the mentality of folks that want to "beat the intent" or "rules" for financial gain. Total dishonesty. They have no morals and integrity. They are of the lowest of LOW LIFE people and I don't associate with them.
Holy f. Will you spit it out....
