Ordered immediately after seeing this video. I’m in the Dom Rep and its selling here for 1200 DOP (198US). I jumped on it once i realised for some unknown reason its not actually available where im from back in the UK. So this mini means not only can I travel with it, but also everyone in the UK has the full size big thing too.
@@TunaCrunch Your right i just googled it. What I realised is that in the UK it is only available on the mobile plan for some reason. Anyways it looks as though it sells for £399 ($521US) basically more than double what it is in the DR. The mini in the UK actually costs more than the full size Starlink in the UK too. Basically no matter which way I look at it, im happy I could get mine here in the DR both for the price and for the availability. My advice to anybody that travels regularly or has a means to purchase a mini in a different location from where ever your from, is to shop around. The difference in the prices are quiet substantial depending on location. Can’t wait till i get mine, should be here by Thursday next week
My 1 worry about these is, the more they catch on, the more lagged down it'll become. As of right now, the amount of people currently using it, it's relatively small. It's really a fantastic idea and works very well for that it is.
Pretty good review. Thank you. Just a minor correction, if I may. You are not getting X Mega Byte per second download/upload speed. There is a factor of 8 (well, basically 10) difference between MB and Mb. All service providers quote you in Mega bits (Mb) and not Mega Bytes (MB). Yes, it is very sneaky and deceitful of them all.
Thanks for the video. I just started to look into this as a back up option. Good information in your Video. Thanks for running through the details like you did!
In about 5 states we just got smashed by floods and we still have places with no internet / cell service, if you or someone else did a fundraiser to send these little guys over there it would be massive for comms / recovery
Space X / Starlink have already partnered with groups like The Generac Storm Response Team, Dr. Phil & many private assistance groups to do precisely that. My understanding is that they have more than 1,000 terminals up and running already. They also stated that they will not be terminating service to any existing accounts that go unpaid in storm effected areas.
Elon sent a pile of Starlink systems that FEMA grabbed. I'm glad to see that at least some are getting into the hands of those who need it. Even if there's just one in an area, hopefully they have open WiFi so people can send an email to their loved ones saying that they are okay.
😂 Even on Nikobar or Lakshdweep remote Islands or Remote Himalyan mountains and in deep Jungles with Tigers, we get 5G unlimited data for 1 US dollar a day....
I live in the countryside in North West France. I have been told for years, yes, I will get fibre. With my old copper connection the internet speed were truly terrible, and unreliable. Customer service was Soviet level. I installed Starlink July 2023. A completely different world. I produce videos for RUclips (see Tony Hillyard) before Starlink typically it would take me over five hours to upload an eighteen minute video. After I installed Starlink the same length video twenty seven minutes. That just about says it all.
To save even more power.. TURN OFF THE SNOWMELT. I am using the Gen II version, but moving soon, but still need a connection for other reasons. . I am gonna order a Mini. The lower power will be nice. Sure wish they weren't $600.
Are you sure you can pause/unpause and save weeks in the month to use later? I don’t have that option. when I pause, it tells me that I can still use it until the end of my billing period and then can unpause whenever.

FYI I have plugged in a WiFi access point at the far end of 300ft of cat6 with the POE at the other end and it worked fine. I do search and rescue, so having versatile WiFi is handy.
Most people living out in the mountains like myself really don't require super high speed internet, we don't really have time to sit and enjoy it much, lots of work to maintain a home and living out here.
I have access to ~4.5mbps down. It's not noticeable but when watching someone live at a higher bitrate. If you're streaming to a site that accepts av1, I'd experiment with seeking the lowest bitrate for the best quality you can get out of your PC using that. Most content is fine below 1Mbps at FHD, any frame rate.
I find my TMHI is fine. Had it now for around 2.5 years at $50/month. I still have the Arcadyn black box but it works fine. I’d only use Starlink if I’m consistently where there’s no cell internet access. If they drop the monthly charge, I’d consider it, but where it is now, it’s really not worth it. The mini should really have been cheaper than the standard (or part of the plan price considering my TMHI router is free with the plan). For emergency situations in areas without internet, iPhone 14 and up come with free satellite text to emergency services.
I work in wind, and at the site im currently on, verizon has no service. My coworker has the starlink mini mounted to the roof of his truck and he let me connect to it and the speed on site was 180 download 20 upload. The mini is a game changer. Will be ordering within the week.
Hi good video. I just got one question. For times that it's not being used outdoors, can you use/connect a separate router for Wi-Fi and using your laptop/computer and devices indoors? I'm assuming through the ethernet cable? Just confirming. Thanks
Honest, informative. I have been curious about starlink for a while and you answered most of my questions in this video. My interest would be more for emergency usage. Do they have a SHTF plan where you can activate it remotely if you have to leave in a hurry? Can you use a cell phone through the starlink almost like a sat phone? Thank you.
This is what starlink has on the website “When you purchase a new retail kit, you’ll receive one hour of internet access upon first plugging in your Starlink. This allows you to activate your service and complete the sign-up process even without an existing internet connection. If you exhaust the one hour of access, you can activate your Starlink using another internet source and following the activation steps listed above.” So no you don’t need cellular reception or other WiFi connection to first activate it. however, just make sure you have the app installed on your phone. its amazing how we've come in past 10 years, or so, i remember having to use them directPC or hughes systems, which had huge dishes, and you actually had to be careful with mounting cuz its transmitted enough RF to be dangerous. I'm not sure how bad it really was but, this thing has no warnings or anything, and yet gets a good speed/signal all the way out to space. very nice!
The mini is rated at 100mbs and the standard is rated at 300 they seem to struggle about the same under heavy trees would need to really compare to see a difference, generally you get full speed till it drops out.
Did you test your Internet speed performance while driving using a $120 home subscription? If yes, I'm curious how far away from your home base you could travel before you would expect reception/performance problems?
Will this work from the inside of the vehicle, through the glass. If it works in motion, why do you need to set it up and align it to begin with? Do you need to align it every time you power it on? I am hoping to mount it inside my truck and mount it to the moon roof via suction cups. this way i don't have to run any wires outside the vehicle through a window. Thanks for you video.
Still too expensive for me. Have to buy equip (about $500) and then if you want to roam, hold on to your wallet. Global roaming is about $200/mo. Starlink says Roam customers will get between 5-50 mbps download speeds, and 2-10 mbps upload speeds.
People, the mini isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just get the standard unless you're worried about size and space. The standard is pretty compact on its own, is significantly faster in both downloads and uploads and serves, overall, far better. Sorry, can't see myself paying for an inferior product just because it's smaller and cool looking.
Nice! Hopefully the more popular it gets and more sattelites are launched the prices will go down. It is nice to see Starlink supporting the Hurricane disasters. Just think all of theese big trucks the media uses for their broadcasting can be downsized as the technology will only improve. Question, heard rumors that Mini will incorporate a method for 12VDC power without the 120 AC transformer?
stink is now selling the USB-C power adaptor for $30. That should work to get power from a 12vcd into the device.
@@ckeilah Perfect thanks. I was looking at YT videos considering grinding open my Gen3 dish and hacking the circuit board to add 12 volt support. No need now.
I have a farm and it’s a game changer!! It didn’t even go down with the hurricane going through. I definitely recommend getting a holder for it. I bought the one off of Amazon for the roof, portable, but of metal. It’s great. 🥳
@@AngryCalls unless the hurricane can take out satellite s it'll be fine
Ordered immediately after seeing this video. I’m in the Dom Rep and its selling here for 1200 DOP (198US). I jumped on it once i realised for some unknown reason its not actually available where im from back in the UK.
So this mini means not only can I travel with it, but also everyone in the UK has the full size big thing too.
@@personal-development-strategy the mini is available in the uk
How many movies can you watch with $50 data cap a week?
@@joegillesp7340 in the uk, it's £85 a month for uncapped data
My 1 worry about these is, the more they catch on, the more lagged down it'll become. As of right now, the amount of people currently using it, it's relatively small. It's really a fantastic idea and works very well for that it is.
Being able to take it on the road is a life saver especially in emergency situations
Super glad everyone who reviews Starlink, Tesla, and everything Musk related reference the scientific method.
Its wild that star link is cheaper and faster than the internet service providers that are around where i live. We arent in a rural area either...
Thanks for the info.great video. I remember when all the phone lines were in the ground and up on poles.
First time viewer. Subbed at the end. Very well put together video. Informative and to the point just how I like it
Pretty good review.
Very detailed, covers all common sense points and scenarios. Thank you!
The heck with that, I want that Pip Boy in the background!
Musk is doing incredible things. He's gonna change our world and be one of the biggest influencers in history.
@@videogamevlogs3765 unless this current and god help future administration puts him in jail.
Love your instructions, plain and simple, easy to follow. So happy to have found your presentation. Keep up the outstanding performance!!!
Good information. I checked Amazon and the cost is almost & 700!!! 😮
Will this be good for Livestreaming?
That was a very clear, well organized and detailed explanation and very helpful. Thank you!
WHAT AN EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! BIG THUMBS UP!!! GREAT JOB!!! I AM A BUYER NOW!!!
Great job. Well explained & appreciate showing it real time
I didn’t expect the latency (ping) to be that low on a sat connection.
Because the sats are on low earth orbit
Low latency and high speeds are the reason why starlink is being so successful
@@lsymfr5795it's not low enough sub 20s an im good
Are you sure you can pause/unpause and save weeks in the month to use later? I don’t have that option. when I pause, it tells me that I can still use it until the end of my billing period and then can unpause whenever.
Maybe the monthly cost will go down when Amazon releases its competing satellite service
Competition and more satellites being brought online should reduce the cost over time.
Hopefully
It will be 20 years before Amazon will have a service that is comparable to what Starlink is offering today.
I doubt that it will take 20 years, that sounds like the amount of time it will take Tesla to get regulators to approve a robo taxi without a steering wheel and no pedals and fully autonomous FSD, + home robots +an ill conceived robovan
@@wilty5 LMAO. Great comeback.
or if you already have the full size starlink you can add the mini for an additional $30/ month. You do have to buy it tho for $600.
FYI I have plugged in a WiFi access point at the far end of 300ft of cat6 with the POE at the other end and it worked fine. I do search and rescue, so having versatile WiFi is handy.
Love ya Elon but 120 for a weatherproof cable? It's a satellite dish (known for outside installation) and should come with one as the only option.
This could be so much smaller! Fold out dish? Next jen.
Most people living out in the mountains like myself really don't require super high speed internet, we don't really have time to sit and enjoy it much, lots of work to maintain a home and living out here.
Both your upload and download speeds are higher than what my cable company tests at and I'm using CAT6.
I got my mini and wear it as a hat, blocks the sun and keeps me connected anywhere 😊
Starlink needs a very large view of the sky, trees block it and hotel rooms aren't generally going to work.
I used starlink overseas. I will buy one next month when I get my HELOC.
Great review! Best wishes on your channel.
@@ohheyitskevinc if they drop the monthly charge? 🤣🤣🤣
That was an excellent presentation. Thanks!
Thank you.
This is what starlink has on the website
“When you purchase a new retail kit, you’ll receive one hour of internet access upon first plugging in your Starlink. This allows you to activate your service and complete the sign-up process even without an existing internet connection. If you exhaust the one hour of access, you can activate your Starlink using another internet source and following the activation steps listed above.”
So no you don’t need cellular reception or other WiFi connection to first activate it. however, just make sure you have the app installed on your phone.

Great video!! Very informative
Power consumption hovers around 22 watts. It can go to 60 watts (they say) if melting snow/ice.
Can the hardware be bought without being activated, then activated during emergency use case or while traveling?
Yes.
Sorta…. A connection is required to activate.
Yes, you activate on the first use

I bought starlink Mini with$200 , DHL $ 24, subscription lite $30 per month ....
It's very nice ....
i live in germany, i live in a small town and we have still not good cable internet. starlink 50 euro/monat is just perfeckt. 200 mbps download and 30-40 upload and ping is also very very good that i can play everyting. totally recommended.
its amazing how we've come in past 10 years, or so, i remember having to use them directPC or hughes systems, which had huge dishes, and you actually had to be careful with mounting cuz its transmitted enough RF to be dangerous. I'm not sure how bad it really was but, this thing has no warnings or anything, and yet gets a good speed/signal all the way out to space. very nice!
so the pause function... could you use that as a backup to your primary service, and pause the subscription indefinitely until you need it...... ??
@@Gralldila pause is by the month… use the function any way you choose.
How would this be for gaming
@@kodyberletch4212 it work perfectly for gaming since right now the satellites are low orbit and you get 40/50 ping
I’d recommend no being in front of a live antenna. It is a microwave
Great, informative review. Thanks.
The mini is rated at 100mbs and the standard is rated at 300 they seem to struggle about the same under heavy trees would need to really compare to see a difference, generally you get full speed till it drops out.
It should be reviewed at a big sporting event like a football game where it’s hard to get service then I would believe it’s good
Starlink is the best ISP. I tried the others and I was always throttled. Starlink is faster too.
Can you buy this to keep for emergencies when power and data on the poles is down? Or do you have to pay a monthly fee?
Soon all vehicles will have Starlink equipped with high end PKG 😅
Thank you for your video! Does this work through tinted glass on a vehicle?
Can you explain how it works for international use? What countries & cost? Thanks.
Did you test your Internet speed performance while driving using a $120 home subscription? If yes, I'm curious how far away from your home base you could travel before you would expect reception/performance problems?
In my country we get unlimited 5G internet at less than four dollars a month. And it's fast like upwards of 300Mbps.
@@robinccc what country is that? Maybe I should move there ;-)

Dude I love that satellite and can’t wait to get one ☝️
Here in Germany its like 78 dollar for unlimited and 40 ish dollar for 50gb
Starlink is billed monthly that is your on or off options.
I literally did not know about this thank you
Man. with the right AC battery brick, you could now have backpack starlink internet.
Great video, very helpful and concise.
I wonder how good it would be in a semi-truck 🧐 for gaming
If the monthly price was able to be able to compete with spectrum i wouldn't hesitate
What are the drawbacks of the built in router running WiFi 5?
Great, informative, well done video.
So with the Roam 50 dollar plan, do they let you pause it? Also, how long can you pause it for? Thanks
We finally just bought starlink, didn't see a mini on their website. :(
Very informative video! Thanks!
I use ATT fiber with about 3 gig download. This would be cool for my boat though. What about gaming??
This is faster than my high speed home connection in the middle of Dallas. I’m switching
Good video this case uses just for rural areas anything else it's not competitive enough with internet providers
Very good video. Subscribed. 👍
Do I need a router with the mini or the standard
No, it’s all built in but you can connect it to a router if you have one that’s better than the WiFi 5 one that it has.
@@HotshotTek thank you 👍
Thanks for the video. So could you use Starlink to replace phone cell service? And like use FaceTime audio?
Nice! Hopefully the more popular it gets and more sattelites are launched the prices will go down. It is nice to see Starlink supporting the Hurricane disasters. Just think all of theese big trucks the media uses for their broadcasting can be downsized as the technology will only improve. Wonder if they will invent a dish you wear like a hat and run off AA batteries.
