    Great video! Editing is smooth and comical, but doesn’t take away from the focus. Super informative as well. Definitely learning a lot and can’t wait to see the next one. Keep it up!

    At least your catch phrase wasn't piece of sh**! Lol. Hey don't worry about little quirks in your vids. They show more of who you are. The vids you make are first and foremost for you. If others want to tune in then great! Just subscribed, so I'm tuning in. Good luck on your hike! PT

    Nice video, I have the same shades and just received the same pair of Topo's two days ago. I really like those lenses on the Oakley's. They seem to give better definition to the lumps and bumps on the trail and make things look brighter which puts me in a better frame of mind. I could have sworn they were called "trail lenses". I have a variety of water proof socks and recently switched to Gore-Tex socks. They are more durable and dry out quicker. I also use them in colder weather as camp shoes with a wool/thinsulate insole from Shnee's and my camp socks that are Alpaca. I use camp shoes in warmer weather. Great find on that Polertec alpha hoodie, I have one from RAB that combines other materials but is just to heavy. I will defiantly be getting one of those.

      Yes!! I love to see that you're also in the orange-lens club! The Polartec alpha is fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough, I saw the Rab offerings but didn't love the built in shell. There's a company in NZ that is making something very similar to Spencer's, but they don't ship to the US and honestly no disrespect to my Kiwi brothers, but I'd rather buy domestic whenever it's an option. Definitely reach out to Spencer at Skylight and tell him I say hi!

      @@travelinbeat Maybe you could give me some advice on how to place an order with Spencer. I am pretty low tech, I tried posting on his Instagram with no response. I see others asking how to place an order with no response that I could see. I am a complete noob when it comes to social media. As a side note I see you use a poncho I use the Zpacks bathtub groundsheet Poncho in warm weather. Very versatile and only 5 ounces.

      @@gravy9587 I reached out to him on Instagram's direct messaging. He was very responsive, but there was some delay between my initial contact (April) and my receiving the hoodie (July). I would try DM'ing him to broadcast your interest and just try and keep in touch. Again, he is friendly and responsive, just not super regular with production. Fwiw, I am also pretty unfamiliar with IG, I just made it a point to check in on his acct a couple times a week, and keep the dialogue open. Good luck!!

    Is the cold weather gear needed for the end of the hike? If so, do you have it sent back to you on the trail?

      I finished the AT by summitting Katahdin on July 24th and did not need to get back out any of my cold weather gear. I only used my 0deg sleeping bag at the beginning and used my 20deg quilt for the majority of that trail.

      @travelinbeat did you feel you needed the 0⁰ in the beginning? I run hot so I was thinking of using a 20⁰ the whole way with a liner and sleeping pad with r4 value.

      @j.me.0311 I was very happy to have my 0deg from the beginning, as overnight lows routinely dipped into the low teens. Honestly though the conditions may be different in a different year and certainly our physiologies may differ as well. If you're also carrying any insulated clothing, that too may be slept in to help ameliorate acutely chilly evenings. Fwiw, most folks don't get 0deg bags, I think 20deg is much more common.

    Thanks for the shout out. Great video and good call on getting the clothes treated by Insect Shield. I'm about to send in another batch and have always have a good experience with them. I'm a gear junkie, so I think this will be my 4th batch of clothes I'm sending them. Haven't found a tick on me in 3 or 4 years with the combination of permethrin treated clothes and picaridin spray on skin during the spring and summer months. I don't mess with deet and picaridin has been proven to be just as effective in studies.

    • @travelinbeat
      @travelinbeat  3 года назад

      YES to picaridin!! I have long used deet quite begrudgingly, being unable to find a more natural product that could rival its efficacy. Just about a year and a half ago I found picaridin and haven't looked back! I love the lotion formulation most of all.
      Glad you're enjoying the videos, thanks for following!!

    Clothing is recommended, except on hiking naked day. It's in June, I think. Have a day.
