I'm 47 years old Japanese. When I was in elementary school, I watched this movie on TV while I was home alone. I had forgotten most of the story, but I clearly remember the dark atmosphere that permeated the entire movie and the horror of the black sea. In particular, the scene where a man falls into a live fish warehouse and dies along with a skeleton was shocking for young children. I couldn't remember the title of the movie for a long time, but luckily RUclips guided me. Thank you for letting me watch this movie. It brought back memories of my childhood.

My first time watching this. I worked in a video store years ago putting up movies. I’ll never forget always seeing the cover of this movie in the horror section.

I don't know why am here.. i searched for something and the ghosts took me here 🤣🤣🤣 watched the movie in first time. A decent horror movie of the past ages. Am sure the music, llow lights, background scores.. might made everyone scary in the old days. Now not much. Suspense less horror movie that made me surprise. 👍
I remember seeing the poster for this film on billboards and bus stops when I was a little kid. Never watched it though. I just remember the skull ship. I thought Ghost Ship was a remake of this because the posters are similar. I'm glad I finally get to watch it after over 40 years.

Made in 1980? I would've guessed 1960 from the manner of speech, and behavior of the cast. Interesting plot, something like that has been in other films with variations on that theme, most notably "Ghost Ship". I'm thinking the engine was steam powered, but it may have been a Diesel since there wasn't a boiler room shown, but who knows.
The film has a foreign quality to it like it sounds dubbed but you must not know much about 1960 vs 1980, there were no cruise ships with Discos on them for example 20 years earlier. Go watch a few movies from 1960 and get back.

I remember seeing this on the movie rack every time I'd go to the video store when I was 13 back in the 80's. The VHS box always fascinated me but I never saw the movie, until now, now that im 52 years old!! Not as bad as I thought it would be, haha!!

This weird low budget offering is a curious role for George Kennedy,having been starring alongside Clint Eastwood in thunderbolt and lightfoot and the Eiger sanction,it certainly didn't stretch his ability as an actor.

Not too bad for a old movie. I suppose this film was made in the 70s. 25 years after the war ended it was still a fresh memory at this time. But what most of the comment says it was interesting since the beginning of the movie. Compare to new US movies where they are always talking for saying nothing.

I’ve never seen ocean water so brown. It looks like river water to me.
On a side-note, in history, the colour blue didn't exist ... in writings, the ocean had (in one case) been referred to as 'crimson'. Of course the hue existed, but they had no name for it. So, perhaps the fantasy and poetry of this story was paying homage to history.
I always wanted to rent this is highschool but never did. Thank you for letting me watch it now!

George Kennedy was a great actor. I can't remember the second in command but he too was good.
My ex-husband used to say: ""If George Kennedy or Leslie Nielsen is the pilot flying your jet airliner or is the captain of your ship, get the eff off before it's too late!"

I love these old flics. At about 47:35 when the 1st liveboat goes down on it's own, and they run to the other lifeboat, you can see they are 2 different boats. Yet when they watch the 2nd lifeboat hit the water it's the shot of the 1st boat hitting the water.

I watched and recorded this pic, back in the mid-90's!! It's a 'GHOSTSHIP', long before "GHOSTSHIP"!! "DEATH SHIP" is NOT, the first movie ever made, about a haunted ship/boat!! Actually the original is "THE GHOSTSHIP", from 1942-43. It's about a couple who purchase a schooner, that's haunted. Not very scary, but an interesting ghost 👻, story, and worth viewing 👀!! That's the first one, of the genre. Then this.
…………One particular note though. Humorous or not, isn't it coincidental, that a WWll German freighter (even though, it was obviously constructed, later ), picks up a group of people, but the first one it knocks off, is the Jewish, guy (Saul Rubinek)🤔…………?

OMG I was traumatized by this movie in my childhood, like 9 yrs old, even though I watched it only once in my life!! Saw this in the theatre as a 17yr old. Really gave me the CREEPS. Especially because I had already been a military historian since I was 10. Ship of the damned. Gestapo torture ship sailing for eternity into Hell. Creepiest theme song at the beginning.
