I’ve seen several versions of the Alan Quartermaine movies- this one with Patrick Swayze is the only one I can say has some authenticity. Richard Chamberlain also played the character but basically I feel he made a joke out of the story. I’m really enjoying this film and miss Patrick and the quality of his acting. He was an exceptional actor- we were very fortunate to have had his talent - even though relatively for the short time we were fortunate to have had his spirit.

Richard Beard Since you seem very familiar with the character of Alan Quartermaine, do you know what the talisman on his necklace represents? Located at 34:10-34:16 & 58:24 of this film.. I have a talisman exactly like it that I bought at an estate sale many years back.. Mine is a brass etched ornament/ talisman that hangs from a beaded necklace with brass attachments.. I’ve never been able to find anything in my research that explains the purpose of the symbol or it’s country of origin.. Maybe the costumer of the movie just thought it appropriate or maybe it has true meaning? Do you know?

This is one of my absolute favorites, and oddly I was thinking about this very film. I was wondering how authentic it truly was/is. Alan Quartermain certainly is a larger than life figure, but so much of his life is relegated to myth and legend.

They mixed some truths about Solomon with fiction to embellish the story and make it interesting. Solomon never fell in love with Sheba.

Solomon did fall deeply in love with Sheba. She refused to give herself to him. But, she tested his wisdom and sought truth from him. God made Solomon the wisest man on earth. Read about them in the Old Testament!

According to this tradition, the Queen of Sheba (called Makeda) visited Solomon's court after hearing about his wisdom. She stayed and learned from him for six months. On the last night of her visit, he tricked her into his bed, and she became pregnant.

Your talking about solomon as if he was real!! So far as is known, he existed in one place, the old testament. Nowhere else, there is a list of the kings of both Judea and Israel(country was split in two for most of the time) solomon isnt on any of the lists and only appears in the old testament! Has been called the invisible king because although there are many fantastic stories about him and his court, he's just as elusive as King Arthur. Infact a lit of the stories are Very similar King Arthur is Almost a christian version of Solomon and both ate reputed to have had fantastic mystical treasures in their hands

As a kid back in the sixties I got to play in a safari room. My grandparents worked for a very rich widow whose late husband liked to hunt. It was a large room filled with all kinds of animals. I remember a polar bear rug, among others.. It was amazing to a child. But I am so very glad to see how our culture has changed about killing such magnificent creatures.
