  • Are the expectations of “masculinity” holding men back from embracing a vegan lifestyle? If so, Dom Thompson’s truly inspiring journey from growing up poor on Chicago’s west side to being “the only plant-eating dude” in prison to life as an athlete, entrepreneur, and activist proves that there’s a better way. This week, Jamie and Justina sit down with Dom for a powerful conversation about veganism and masculinity.

Man boobs go with dairy, meat, sugar and processed foods. There is nothing masculine about having man boobs! They are also weight, so a guy can get a bad back from having man boobs.
We also live in an era of toxic gym bro culture where you are supposed to have pectoral muscles, even though no manual labour jobs need these muscles. The male physique is therefore either man boobs that are fat or man boobs that are useless muscle. Yet the soldier doesn't have these things. Neither do our forefathers that had slender physiques.
We all come in different shapes and sizes, with different core physiques, however, men should be physically fit, with firm muscles and no man boobs or paunch.
A related problem is car dependency. As a 'closet vegan', I consider car dependency to be unacceptable. If you drive across the country then you are enforcing everyone on that route to keep their pets and children indoors. Streets are for everyone, not just cars, and that means wildlife too. I am not physically disabled so why do I need a glorified wheelchair when I have my own two legs?
We are sold this image that cars are masculine, the more turbos and horsepowers, the more manly you are. Yet we have speed limits and even the cheapest car can go faster than the speed limits, so there is no need for car dependency. The choice is a bit like deliberately becoming a flightless bird when people choose car dependency instead of their god given legs and a vegan diet.
I don't feel America is ready for seeing car dependency as part of the carnivore lifestyle problem.
    Great show as ever.

@@Justina.justina I am interested in food history and I would like to contribute some content. My working title is 'food fakelore' and I think that your show could work well with a 'food fakelore' segment. The premise of 'fakelore' is that it is not necessarily true, so there is much to be discussed in the comments.
An example is the egg, which is off the menu for us! However, until the 1950s the egg was a seasonal gift, only available at Easter, hence the Easter Egg. So few people know this, and, once you have the story of the Chicken Tax, the VW camper van and the pickup truck (all related to taxes on eggs), you can embroider a little story that inspires people to go vegan rather than TELLING THEM TO GO FSCKING VEGAN FOR GODS SAKE. IMHO inspiring will work better than preaching.
Another example food fakelore could be beef, with the story of how cows were a beast of burden until the Dutch invented a new harness for the horse, putting cows (oxen) out of work, for Thomas Bakewell to come along and breed these goat sized cows into these franken-monsters we have today. Thomas Bakewell and his selective breeding inspired Charles Darwin to write Origin of the Species.
This story lays bare the realities of why we eat beef, beef wasn't a thing until recent times. People can contest this in the comments, hence 'food fakelore' will work for the segment.
There are many protected EU foods with stories attached to them, for example parmesan cheese, Cornish pasties and all these other culinary delights. All of them are ripe for episodes of 'food fakelore'. No fancy graphics or background music is required, and, it will be very hard to run out of topics.
A good one is pizza, that everyone thinks comes from Italy, but nobody had tomatoes in Italy until after WW2 and pizza didn't make it there until the 1970s, it was a New York thing, not Italian.
This opens up the question of what the Mediterranean Diet is. So, every episode of 'food fakelore' naturally segments onto another one, with all assumptions about food questioned in a sensible way. Nobody need be lectured, however, facts from history can be used to undermine why we are eating some things. I don't think there is any need to diss big brands, everyone knows the history of the McBurger already.
I can do an infinite amount of scripts, and I could do with your help doing the presentation. You can keep the RUclips revenue, I will keep the book revenue!
I am vegan, but I was merely vegetarian from the age of seven. I am an English guy living in Scotland.

meat and dairy does not give you man boobs. I have been eating meat every meal and dairy like 1 out of 3 of my meals for over 30 years and never had man boobs.
Vegans are feminine men however. only a beta male would cry like a fairy because I am eating an omelet for breakfast or putting some ribs on the grill. The question is do vegan men sit down to pee, like they cry in their pillow at night because other men eat meat?
