Awesome video and explanation. Super nerve-wracking drilling into the dash but mine came out awesome. Confirmed to work with the 67designs series 55 rail. I put the plug in front of it
Thanks for this video! I bought a gladiator this week and immediately had this same idea when I bought my dash mount, since I use lossless audio and want my new sound system to sound as good as possible. Works out exactly as I expected to, just didn't know about the additional adapters needed. Saved me a ton of time.
It's soft plastic, use a 7/8" spade bit (or what ever size you need) also if you don't have a right angle drill, use something like the Dewalt right angle drill attachment. Much cleaner and easier and angle part is plastic as you'll be close to your wind shield. When We drilled a hole through a friends bulletproof mount (old style), it was a pain using a tungsten Milwaukee drill and step bit.
I've been struggling on how to better route my USB for my phone in my Jeep and this is the only video that I've found on the internet, so thank you for sharing. I was looking at the schematic since the GINTOOYUN Splitter Cable splits to one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 (power only) female end. Does it matter which USB female end goes where? Looking at the video closely, it seems that you route the USB 2.0 female end to the black plug that you removed from the Jeep Media Hub. Does it matter which female USB end goes where? Plugging the USB splitter male end to the Jeep Media Hub seems backwards as one would think that the Jeep USB source would come from that same black plug that was removed from the Media Hub (not the other way around). However, your schematic and you plug the male USB splutter end into the Media Hub. It would be good to clarify these points and confirm that the Jeep Media Hub is still fully operation and that the USB extension that you added provided both data and power. Thanks again for sharing this mod.
Confused. At 8:21, you show in the middle-Jeep wire going into the 2.0 female and to the left, your 3.0 socket. To the right is the 3.0 female back to the dash. Question is, how is either a 3.0, if your initially hooking it up to the 2.0 as the first contact? Plus you are coming into the splitter in the female which is in the side of the splitter. That is not splitting. ??? ......... It seems to me that you have your 'Jeep media plug" and your "Cable A from Jeep" backwards. So now you come into the splitter at the head and split 2.0 to your dash, and the 3.0 up to the new socket you're installing.
Hey DuckMe! Thanks for the video, managed to wire my USB to upper dash using your wiring etc. one thing did you lose power to the USB in the center arm rest? I did and can’t work out what the problem is. Thanks again
@@DuckMeTV yea I just researched it and it might well be there’s not enough power now for that one or it might be part of bigger issues with that USB port. Anyways i can live without it especially with power running to the top. Thanks again
My pleasure! No, I didn’t have to modify the rubigrid. Only thing to keep in mind, is make sure you’re not too far to the outside of the grid. Otherwise you could run into an issue. You want to make sure that your USB plugs have the space they need.
I bought all the parts from the list but I can not get it to recognize that the phone is plugged in for CarPlay. Pretty sure I have it hooked up exactly like you explained. It will charge the phone but no CarPlay. Any chance you have any ideas what I may be doing wrong? TIA
@@ShawnClark-qy8zq odd. So with my old phone, that was lightning, I didn’t have any issues. Now that I got a USB-C one and had to use a dongle to swap from lighting to USB-C, I do have occasional connection issues. So I figure it’s either the new software or a cable issue. Have you tried a different cable?
@@DuckMeTV most definitely. Pass-through charging is all I get. It allows Bluetooth playback while charging which usually is a no-go since Bluetooth playback can’t happen if plugged in. At least in my Jeep. Glad it works for you.
Hello from binize, we have a CarPlay ai box, which can bring you wireless CarPlay and full android system, may I ask do you wanna take an unboxing review for us?
I can if you’d like me to. But if I do, it will be 100% my opinion, you will not have the opportunity to filter, change or sensor the review content. If that works for you, you can email me. My email is in the channel details.

Not sure actually. Never used it. Lol
Being that the one in the center console still works, I’d guess when we tap in we “rob” it from the center arm rest. 🤷♂️

Does the lower Apple CarPlay USB plug still work?
Yes
Needed to see this. Wonder if anyone tapped into the usb-c instead. I’d like to try that.
That would be cool!
why did you button everything up before test?
Tested off camera :)
Do you ever get the Hubs not supported error screen on startup?
No
Thanks!
I used the exact same parts. Still “Hubs not supported error” & no audio. Only charging. Gremlins be damned.

You should really give credit in your description to the person that you got the information from with the schematic.
