  • "We might all put "Microsoft Office" on our CV, but people from academic don't know how to REALLY use Microsoft word."
    This was from an actual informational interview with another Medical Writer. I thought that was quite harsh.
    Having worked as a full-time medical writer, I can confirm she was SO RIGHT!
    Fear not, today I am sharing the essential Microsoft Word tips that would be enough for you to feel a lot more on top of thesis/manuscript writing.
    And perhaps, this could path the way for many PhD students and postdocs to start a career in Medical Writing as well!

    These tips and tricks are indeed useful!!! I have figured them out during my PhD and I am glad that you made a video about these tricks.
    I still have a question. I want to use the Master document feature of MS Word for writing my PhD thesis, but this feature is not working anymore. Do you have any suggestions for an alternative option in MS Word? Thank you very much for your videos so far!

    • @PhDCoffeeTime
      @PhDCoffeeTime  2 года назад

      I am glad you appreciate this video. You must be a rock star PhD student if you have figured all these tricks on your own! Let me know if you ever want a to start career in medical writing :)
      I wish I have a smarter answer to your question, but I have not used the master document feature. However, the straight-forward solution that could work as a quick fix is to save a separate file as "thesis_template.doc".
      At work, we use template document like this quite often, usually sections to be updated are highlighted in yellow/red fonts, so the writer will remember not to accidentally incorporate wrong information. Hope this sharing helps you!

    Don't forget to do your hackerrank and leet code practice. Study your data structures because y'all gonna end up with industry jobs anyways.

      This is probably very specific to computer science and engineering PhDs! In my case, coming from life sciences and I can work in the industry without any coding skills. FYI, I am that colleague who cries for help when I need to install a printer lol
