i felt like everyone for the most part had the same criticism on the plates, the scores they gave each other were also somewhat in the same range
Not only that. Here food looked experimental. While the other two had food that was like they knew what they were doing. Also note that in beginning she said she was not really a vegan. And what she made was something that doesn't say hard-core vegan. Something anybody might just try to throw together. Fried cauliflower and sweet potato fries😮 doesn't sound like someone who is putting in work for a vegan alternative.

Because B. Elise under-rated the other two chefs. It's a strategy I see some of the chefs using and it's unfair. Be honest with the rating, come on! So glad Chef Alisa showed up and set things straight! And I will definitely check out her show, too!

Im from the caribbean and the first time i had American yam (sweet potato) it was so fresh as in no little sweetness like no flavour so it definitely needs the added sweetness. The ones we get in the caribbean is naturally very sweet and flavourful.

Some times "no added sugar" means "no added WHITE sugar". People may had maple syrup, agave, honey, stevia, monk fruit, take your pick and still say it has "no added sugar".
Pro Tip for my black vegan folx; use oyster mushrooms when looking for a fried chicken vibe! Pls dont use cauliflower, its never gon give chicken LMAO
To be fair nothing will give fried chicken like fried chicken but mushroom is a great tip as they have texture that is meaty!
I prefer portobello mushrooms because they have a smokier flavour and they cook through faster. But as someone who's been vegan for 15 years, I have never liked cauliflower wings, like whose idea was that?

i love how the celebrity chef was so respectful and gave constructive criticism instead of being rude!! :)) ❤ also i wonder if the freshness effected the taste of the food in anyway, it seems like it would be difficult to keep everyone's food fresh while filming on set and everything, you know?
It's probably reheated but the flavour quality would probably only go down for 10%-20%, however, the fried food definitely suffered.
I just want to thank Cocoa Butter for introducing me to Chef Alisa. I have been streaming her show and haven't stopped crying YET! This show is so beautiful and I hate that I am JUST NOW watching it.❤

Elise should’ve made her dish more soulful because I think her cauliflower chicken seemed good but girl, not with the sweet potato fries. Some rice and gravy or something.

@@aaw4424 I agree, they should’ve definitely selected different candidates that actually cooked vegan soul food and knew how to throw a plate together. They definitely didn’t even pair items together right. They had so many options to do it right. Fried oyster mushrooms, mushrooms & gravy, tofu “fish”, mac & cheese, smoked collard greens, smothered green beans and potatoes, red beans, sweet potatoes, cornbread. Not saying they had to throw each item I listed above together on one plate but they could’ve chose from those options and made a really good soul food plate that wasn’t lack luster. Also even where is the soul food seasoning, it doesn’t sound like any of them used something like old bay, tony chahere’s, slap ya mama, or even just common herbs. Not saying they couldn’t cook but this not my idea of soul food. At all
I'm going to challenge myself to make a vegan Mac n cheese just to try it out. I'm not vegan, and love cheese but the vegan cheese I've tried is...lackluster. Can anyone tell me how to mimic the creaminess?

it's funny because I the vegan world there are so many different types of vegan lol. You can totally tell that the second cook is a whole foods type vegan and it totally showed lol! Wish I could try those vegan chicharron cause I'm way too lazy to make that myself 😂

Tried Black Rican Vegan at prospect park smorgasbord. Idk if it was the windy day but the food WAS NOT hitting. The beyond meat egg rolls were super salty and the mushroom burger tasted stale. Really wish well for the business, but was expect more from the food.
Gonna be honest, I missed a good portion of what Chef Alisa was saying because I was laughing so hard. Please have her back, she's a winner!

It would make way more sense to have 3-4 neutral judges, who don't have a stake in winning, to rate the food. Some of these people are just so bias, because they want to win... so these tests are never truly fair.

For example, you could have the best mac in the world, but because the other contestants want to win, they could easily rate you a 5.
The only way to truly be fair and unbiased is if neutral, random people are able to judge the food. They don't have a stake in winning.

These cooking videos need to be standardized better. Soul food is a cuisine with specific and staple dishes. It’s not just food cooked by black people,as black people around the world have differing cooking traditions.
