Hi Jeff, nice to see you in my neck of the woods. It's good to see someone else's take on the place that's been my play ground for ages, sometimes you get a bit of a mental block and can't see the woods for the trees if you know what I mean, but in a way I think that were lucky to have all this and more on our door step. By the way the photos hit the spot and makes me want to get out there and start making images again, look forward to your next video. Regards Mick
Some very strong images Jeff, as always. With the switch from 4:3 tv's back in the day to modern tv's and smart phones with a wider perspective and of course films, the wide view of the world is becoming ever more popular, so an interesting video here.
Personally, it’s something which goes back to the mid 90s and seeing the panoramic work of Koudelka. I’d never seen images which looked so abstract and yet so strong compositionally. But yes, we are seeing more panoramic formats in our daily lives. Most of the time they are upright on our phones. Maybe I should shoot more upright panos?
Interesting work. And if you exclude so much on either the x or y axis it obviously becomes something unique. Something interesting and abstract. Upright panos with a Triptych or more images spaced out perhaps.
Truly enjoyed this video. I felt as though I was on a tour of a part of the world I may not get to see in person - very relaxing, with fantastic images. Thanks for sharing, and I hope to see more in the future. May just get out with the M-D today. Cheers from Chris in California.
Jeff, just stumbled upon your channel today through this video. Excellent work, and I just checked the prior comments looks like someone already asked my question--so you shoot a single frame and crop to panorama proportions in LR, and do not stitch multiple photos? In your video I hear you shoot off a couple of frames so figured you were stitching two or three frames together. Can’t wait to get through the rest of your videos, really good stuff!
Love the B&W photos. Do you compose your photos differently if it was in color? I am a “color” landscape photographer. So I very curious. Thank you. Excellent video to photo and back. 👍
Yes. The two are very different. I haven’t shot a lot of colour landscape in my career as I find it too restrictive artistically. A colour landscape is just a record of the scene for me. There isn’t much scope to add something of myself into it. I grew up with the landscape work of Don McCullin, and the idea of interpreting the scene is very important to me. Jeff
I know this is an old vid, but did you take multiple photos and then stitch them? I have an M11-P and I would love to be able to take panoramic shots with it so I'm trying to figure out focal lengths and also just how to do it.
What could be better sea sand, and fish and chips, it’s good you can support a wife and two Leica, just a joke. Thanks again, lovely photos. I’m a Fuji shooter.
@@WalkLikeAlice I thought Leica's are more robust...never thought of maintaining such a collection of spare parts 🤣 but tbf my collection is similiar sized but only a few Leicas...
Jeff, I'm confused about how you get the panoramic output. I see that you're using a 21 mm external viewfinder and a 35 mm summilux. Do you crop as a panorama in photoshop/lightroom, or do you stitch images together at times? Thanks
They are cropped in Lightroom. The only time I stitch panoramas together is when I’m shooting with an Xpan. Bizarrely. I scan each half of the negative in a 35mm scanner and stitch them together using Photoshop.
Hi David, Do you mean the ratio of the crop? I use the 2.74:1 ratio. I don't have any issues at all with getting prints made from a lab. If you do have problems, just make a standard-size print with the panoramic printed in the middle of it and trim it down afterwards.
If I was looking at selling mine with two lenses, all boxes, original strap, hoods, filters etc. I would want at least £5K for it. They are only going up in price.
Love the photos, the videos and the music! Thank you for inspiring me, went out today in the freezing weather after watching your videos!
Thank you so much. I’m glad they inspired you ☺️

Thanks Mick. I know exactly what you mean. Glad they’ve given you some incentive to get out and shoot.

Thanks for the kind comments. The images are cropped to panoramic proportions in LR. I don’t stitch images together.
Very interesting video. Thank you very much. RS. Canada
Thank you. 🙏
Some great images & an interesting video. I'm interested to know what focal length you used? Cheers.... 👍
Thank you. 21mm & 35mm.

Lovely photos. The compositions are excellent. Summicron ASPH lenses?
Thank you Ken. 21mm Elmarit-M ASPH and 35mm Summilux-M ASPH in this video.
Moscow is watching and envying👍

Hi, we’re these shot with the monochrome or converted after? Great set of images
Thank you. These were all converted from Leica M9 files with my SilverChrome presets.

Well done! What is your processing procedure for your B&W in this delightful video?
It’s too long to explain here but I’ll probably do a video on it in the future.

No. They are cropped to a panoramic format in post.

Actually we have nine Leica cameras!! But tbf half were bought 20 years ago. They are all old film models.

@@metastaticmince2386 I'll almost certainly sell most of them. Just waiting for the prices to stabilise.
Some fabulous images. Are you using a filter to get the detail in the sky?
Thank you. I don’t use any filters on my lenses apart from a clear one for protection. No grads or polarisers.
Thanks that was great, 👍🏻
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻

what is the best lens for leica m to have the Xpan look ?
21 or 24mm
Hi Jeff
What size do you crop to for your pano, and do you find it difficult to prints from a print shop
Hi David, Do you mean the ratio of the crop? I use the 2.74:1 ratio. I don't have any issues at all with getting prints made from a lab. If you do have problems, just make a standard-size print with the panoramic printed in the middle of it and trim it down afterwards.

Out of curiosity, how much would you sell a Hasselblad XPan for?
If I was looking at selling mine with two lenses, all boxes, original strap, hoods, filters etc. I would want at least £5K for it. They are only going up in price.
alien landscapes 👍👍👍
What is your favorite and preferred lens?
Sarah uses a 28mm for everything. I’ve been using a 35mm for most of 2023. Jeff
For sure that would push your film costs up, yikes.
