This summer I found one of these in a friends back yard and decided to save it. I've been looking thru your videos on this model and you've given me a lot of good ideas. Also helped me solve some problems I've found. Thanks a bunch.
Mate that template is next level, seriously Dan i can't get over how good your stuff comes out. With the plastic pipes, maybe if people dipped them in liquid asbestos they wouldn't melt 🤭
Dan I love your videos, just the right amount of 'how to' without being a 'step by step', it's snowing today in Alberta (Canada) so I'm off to the garage (heated!) to finish weld my XV750 subframe!
Never a disappointment on anything that you make Dan , you could store the practice subframe till a later date as it will be made to your usual standard so no way will that be inferior. I'm never suprised at some comments on RUclips but that one about the exhaust melting is up there with epic lol . Looking forward to the next vid and yes still perfect for a Sunday brekkie watch . Cheers Dan
Hey mate, why not use chrome molly steel for these parts . I would think that's what they are made of originally and you can then make the parts using thinner wall tube that's easier to work with.
Oh man that's sick! Didn't realize at first that you were aiming for a trellis style subframe Also gotta appreciate your filmmaking skills, it truly improved, in terms of editing and b rolls you put in. Keep it up!
You may be covering this in a later video but are you putting in additional supports or will the rigidity of the final product and the mounting points supply enough support to hold a rider's weight/leverage?
this is only a mock up template as the actual part that I’m making will be made from a larger diameter and stainless steel so the supports that it currently has is all it’ll need
You've come along way, my Aussie friend! It's an impressive garage you've put together. And knowledge! Nice to see. Now that you're designing subframes and such things, maybe a "lesson" in material, size and such for coping with stress from riding the bike. We're not building a tank, it's a bike! But still have to carry a person around a bend in 100km/h. or so. Just a thought!
Thank you so much mate and yeah that’s a great idea, but I’m probably not the best equipped for that kind of knowledge unfortunately I would hate to say anything misleading
@@CafeRacerGarage True! But you must have some form of knowledge since you build a bike and then rides off in the horizon! Well, I get your point. That could easily make alot of "pipemelters" to comment! 😄
In another one of your videos you said something along the lines of, "if you don't buy the right tools, you're going to end up spending the money you would've spent on the tool and your not going to have a result that you're happy with". I have some projects in my head that I'd like to make a reality and I'd like to use some of the same techniques you use, but I don't have the space or the money for all the extra tools. Should I wait until I have the extra money and space or can I still make something I can be happy with without fancy tools and a place to store them? Do you have any advice for someone trying to get into fabricating their own parts? You have inspired me a great deal to go and do the things you do.
Hey brother, I certainly have started out with just the basic tools and I encourage anyone to do the same. Just do what you can with what you’ve got and anything you can’t do yourself just outsource it to have it made. I’m super proud of you for getting in and having a go. 👍
For those who complain about melting plastic exhausts. You can easily use plastic/pvc as an exhaust! You only need to spray the inside with metallic paint and wrap the exhaust with thin foil. While doing that make sure to make a thin foil hat as well!
Hi mate. Love your work. I have a question regarding motivation. I have a similar build that is roughly 70% complete. I have literally every peice to finish it but I havnt managed to get into it for at least 12 months now. Would love some advice on how I can get back into it.
Hey mate, it all comes down to your personal goals. I always find making lists works the best. My advice would be to make a shortlist on things that you can achieve now and then just start taking a list of day by day. If the motivation doesn’t come naturally, don’t force it just start watching other RUclips videos that will inspire you and eventually it will get you going again.

Thank you mate I appreciate your feedback. Enjoy your garage time, the weather is warming up for you hopefully now
Great episode mate, great chatting to you with Jet and Sam last night. I'll be ordering one of your mugs for sure.
Hey brother, your mug is on its way it’s already packaged and ready to be picked up :)
Thank you for your support :)
I have been waiting for this one! Thanks Dan!

Thank you so much mate. The design in my head was was different but as always it changes as I build it :) 😊 glad you always enjoy the videos
Seen a lot of Virago builds, but that subframe design is next level! Would make a mean Cafe/bobber.
Hi Dan I love your way of working
You are really an inspiration
I learn a lot for my diy projects
Thank you mate
Never disappointed mate. Thanks for uploading.
Thank you so much mate I’m glad this was obvious and entertaining for you
That looks good, can't wait to see next part
Thank you mate. Have you seen the tank build on this bike yet?
@@CafeRacerGarage yeah i saw it, amazing job but too complicated for me to even try. I am about to modify my motorcycle fuel tank.
Looks great 👍
Luv the XV as a base for a cafe’ the best choice of engine imo truss frame will be nice and strong nice work
Thank you so much mate yes it’s been sitting here waiting for me to build it for awhile and I’m so excited to get into it
Nice video Dan. Looking good mate, ride safe. Cheers
Thank you so much mate and same to you

Your skills are improving every video dude!! Absolutely great work 👏
Thank you so much brother I’m always getting schooled by my mistakes
@@CafeRacerGarage haha same bro
Do you have any tutorial that we can join for bike building course… that’s awesome… if there I must gonna get admission

Thank you so much mate, Its nice you noticed that side of it :)
The fuel tank looks like it is off a z650SR, I have one on my cafe racer too, nice shape, popular with yamaha xv cafe racer projects.
Hey mate, yes that’s exactly what it’s from, but I’m actually making my own custom tank. This was just on it for display purposes
2:59 what are these clamping screws ? Just got one of these welding tables for project and curious about the accessories available !!

Are you gonna make a video on how you can take the pvc pipe template and make it into a real exhaust… love your vids
Haha
@@CafeRacerGarage what? Did I say something stupid my bad g 🤦♂️
Mate, you need a CNC water-jet cutter & make it out of 6mm Aluminium. 👍😉👍

Great vid! I'm gonna run straight to my garage and make a subframe out of cardboard and copper pipes 😂😅
Haha

Won't the pipes melt if you make them out of pvc?
🤪
Funny guy 😂. 👽
Being a trestle design with better Billy on anchor points that thing would be ridged as
Seems like a lot of work for a virago 😂. JK, Nice job!
I don’t mind a challenge 👍😂
I always do template's
