Please note that even though both 0w20 and 5w20 have a viscosity of 20 at operating temperature, the viscocity of 0w20 is 0 in cold temperatures while that of 5w20 is 5 in cold temperatures. Therefore, there is a difference.

Use whatever the owner's manual requires. No need to do otherwise. I have three vehicles. One uses 0-20; one 5w - 30, and the other 10w-30. Why would anyone want to deviate from the owner's manual?
5w-20 and 10w-40 would still offer the same protection in hot summer as long as the engine cooling system is at good operating condition. Especially when the car is just a daily driver and does not operate at extreme conditions.
Question: I live in the tropics where there's no winter and the ambient temp hovers around 30-deg C all year round. So does this whole 0W vs 5W argument even matter?
Not a huge difference between 0w-20 and 5w-20 unless it is really well below freezing. When considering oil grades think in Centigrade temperatures 0c and 100c as these are the temperatures for the cold start and hot end tests.
Exactly. I should use now 0W-20 according to Lexus but since I have all shelf in my garage of 5W-30 left from my old car, I use it. There's no deference. I don't live in Alaska, or even Canada.
Not a huge difference in cold flow between a 0w oil and 5w oil unless you are in the really far north. At the hot end (100c) both have same viscosity. A 0w-20 will have more additives and be from more carefully selected feed stock than a 5w-20
I live in partially cold and partially hot climate. Temperatures do fall below freezing in winter, and reach summer highs. I guess both will work in my case.❤😂🎉.
Not true. Do not trust those who just obey governmental mandate to use whatever give you better fuel economy. For fuel economy use your mind how you drive. For the protection of an engine use oil that perform better at different temperatures. If would living in Alaska (or even Wisconsin) I could use 0W20(not 0W16), but here in S.Carolina in summer time I would use 5W30(specially Pure Synthetic - which only Amsoil sell it)
A 0w-20 passes the SAE grade test specifications for 5w-20 but not the other way round. Equally a 5w-30 would pass SAE viscosity tests both hot and cold test for 5w-20

That’s not true lol it’s based off climate and your particular region I have had even the dealership tell me to go to a 5w in a hotter climate lol

I.can only speak for myself. I mix 10w30 and 5w30 and 5w20 together during oil change. My ford f150 still running strong at 250000 miles
At operating temp they are the same viscosity. So much misinformation.

You mean Zero w 20 , not Oh w20??
Americans have difficulty recognizing the difference between a letter and a number. 😁😁😁!
Lol

Great question. The video actually answered your question at 2:15.
No, just you canola
Then get SAE 30. But nights still probably comparably colder, so 5(10) W30 is ok
I'd only use 0w20 if it was consistently below zero for long periods at a time.
Not a huge difference between 0w-20 and 5w-20 unless it is really well below freezing. When considering oil grades think in Centigrade temperatures 0c and 100c as these are the temperatures for the cold start and hot end tests.
Folks, look at the chart and you'll get your answer. There is overlap between and among the various weights vis-a-vis temperature

So I have a 2018 nissan Altima and I used 5w20 instead of 0w20 wouldn’t damage the engine would it?
So would it be beneficial to use 0w20 in winter, then switch back to 5w20 in spring?
Probably best to go with a 5w since it's more stable at higher temperature.
@@jean-sebastienguay1282 i’d prefer cooking oil at a temperature of around 350-375, and i wanted to fry fish.
Yes

I like 5w20 for more stability n less noack.😂
What about the 0W30 in comparison to the 5W20?
@@jean-sebastienguay1282wider range of use
0w30 has a lot of VI improvers that can shear...@@jean-sebastienguay1282
O is a letter, 0 is a number.....lol.
There must be an error. The 5W20 cold should be good down to at least -35 like the 5w30 and not -25.
Nope - it is -25F
0w-40 is even better
if your temp is not below 0 then they are the same😅
Oh-w-20. Seriously ZERO-w-20
Click bait, nothing of value in this report.
You use whatever oil your vehicle is designed for. It’s not something you pick based on your location and climate

My Corolla supports both 0W-20 and 5W-20. Says right on the cap.
Tell that to the people that live way up north
This comment was made by someone with very little understanding of engines and oil.

0w20 and 5w20 engine protection is as fake as your english accent 😂😂
0w-30 is better
