How lovely! And easy. I’m sure you get tired of making videos but right now this is my only way to get my quilting vibes. My mama has dementia and I can’t leave her to sew. But I can enjoy watching you sew. Thank you for sharing and making me laugh. ❤
Tammy, your situation is tough, I'm sorry. If I'm filling a need for you I'll continue serving up videos. God bless you for taking care of your mama. I hope Michelle will be as kind to me when it's my turn, TFW!!!😃😍🐥
Maybe you could find some kind of hand quilting you could do while being with your mom. I know its hard my mom had alzheimer and now my husband is starting with it. He lost his wallet and he falls a lot. He buys so much stuff and wasteful. He is not bad yet, but I can't control what he does. He wanted to shave his head bald hair was thin and he bought 4 or more of those head shavers and threw how many away. Then he paid $105 for one and now decided to let his hair grow back. I worked in a nursing home and one lady just walked all day. Her daughter came everyday to help feed her.
Oh I love this layer cake line of fabric! So bright and cheerful! Such a great beginner "go to" pattern Di! Thank you for the tape tip on the mat...I too think YOU are brilliant ya know.....❤
Thanks so much Tracy😊 I love making my own templates with Washi or Painters tape. Isn't that the cutest fabric line?❤ 👍😍
That was fast. It looks like a summer quilt. Nice.
It doe sook summery Arvetta. I've been planning on what to do with that layer cake since it came my way. Thanks for watching😍😃🐥
I hear quilters gasping across the internet at you “wasting” that inch of fabric! lol. I’m glad it’ll go into the string bin! If you had wanted to sew a few more seams you could have made 2 cuts the other direction and ended up with a 9 patch kind of thing but a finished quilt is better than perfect! Beautiful!
😂🤣😂🤣 and then let me know, right? Copycat Quilter? I thought of cutting it the other direction but also just wanted a little bit of mindless sewing to get me back into the swing of things. Thanks for watching.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Beautiful quilt, I love the colors! I recommend using a stripology ruler for this if you have one for both the initial cutting and then squaring up. It makes this fast and easy. I rarely use any other rulers anymore.
I agree 💯% Michelle! Stripology is SO versatile💕🧵
Thanks for the tip Michelle! I need to break down and purchase a Stripology ruler.
Thanks for watching! 😍👍😄
I completely agree
@@sisterchicksquilting you won't regret it. I have more accuracy and can cut faster with it. It saves time and actually makes cutting fun:)
I do love the colors on that layer cake, even if it is not available anymore. Such a happy quilt!
Love the Easy Transition quilt. You are absolutely right about it being the fabric you choose, not necessarily the pattern. Thanks for another great idea. Now I have some quick, beautiful quilts to make with all of those layer cakes!
Thanks Susanna. You know I really am addicted to the fabric, that’s why I quilt lol🤣😂🤣 thanks for watching my channel😊♥️🐥
I love easy transition quilt pattern.. so so cute. I agree it is the fabric that makes the pattern. Thanks for sharing! Glad you had a relaxing and fun vacation with family!
❤❤
Welcome back!
Thank you Lisa! 😊As always, thank you for watching 😍🐥
Glad you had a great vacation with family. Easy Transition pattern with this layer cake makes a great baby quilt, love the colors.
Thanks you Beverly:)
I bought a Rowenta iron about a year ago, was all the rage, supposed to be the best all the quilters had one. It never sprayed. Was so mad spending the money for that, went looking for another iron. I happened to see a Black and Decker on sale at Walmart for a little over $10. I’ve had other products from them, always had good luck. It sprays and irons great. It doesn’t leak either! I sure didn’t go wrong buying it.
I’ve used a B&D for years but I couldn’t put water in it because it always spit & leaked. You’re lucky 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
You have my quilt top to long arm. I am so excited and I'm going to pick it up on the 20th.
I don’t recognize your RUclips handle, I’ll have to go and look 👀 OH, hi Paula! Yes, will see you on the 20th. I can’t wait. Let me just.😀 next week.👍🏼♥️🐥
I was looking for a layer cake idea...think this will be the pattern. Thank you and Welcome Home to you, Michelle and the Engineer. So glad you had a week on the coast to build memories with family and to regroup for future projects!
Hey Missy! We're so glad we had the time on the coast too, it's a wonderful place. Hugs to you and Dar 🤗😍🙂😍
Love the layer cake you used Di. Happy to hear you had a great vacation! Hubby & I love to retreat to the Oregon Coast too. Lincoln City plus fishing out of Depot Bay is the best!! Looking forward to seeing your completed Sewing Room!
We love Lincoln city Debra! I’m so excited. The sewing room is close, made huge strides in it yesterday.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Lovely, so happy to see you at the Valley of Plenty Quilt show!!
Debbie, thank you for stopping by our Sister Chicks booth❣️😊♥️🐥
Vacations are the best, we have been to the Oregon Coast many times from western 🇨🇦. The transition is beautiful- thank you for sharing the washi tape tip
We love the same spots, Debbee😍 I love western Canada. I could so easily live on Vancouver Island.🥰😊👍🏼♥️🐥
I love the quilt design. The fabric says Springtime!
It does! TFW👍🏼😊♥️🐥
A beautiful baby girl quilt.
My thoughts exacctly Mary 😍😍🐥
Very cute quilt. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Dee! 😊 And thank you for watching my chanel 🙂
Very nice!
Thank you😊❣️
I would add a small border. Then put some of those scraps into another small border. And finish off with a bit wider border. No waste!
Awesome idea, thanks 😊👍🏼♥️🐥
I like easy quilts and I have multiple layer cakes to choose from. Thanks looking forward to making this one.
I’m finding out from the comments, Michele that a ton of viewers have a bunch of layer cakes😳⁉️ TFW😊♥️🐥
Aloha from Hawaii!!! 🌈🌈🌈‼️. I really like this style of quilt!!! 😀😀‼️. Thank you!!!
Alohaaaa Princess! It's been a while since I've heard from you. Thank you for commenting and watching😍👍😍
Aloha 🌺 I just got back from Hawaii yesterday after three beautiful weeks there.
I have so many layercakes. I think I need to do some slicing!! I love the checkere quilt too. It has been on my to do list for some time now. I enjoyed your vacation story!! My kids just got back from a great northwest vacation. The photos they shared were amazineg. Now I'm off to check out my layer cakes. Thanks for sharing!!
You’re so lucky Linda, I absolutely love working with layer cakes. Truthfully, I generally don’t buy them, so I was so thrilled to be given so many. I love the PNW, Pacific Northwest. Thanks for watching Linda.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
I'm glad you had a terrifiic vacation. I grew up in South Santa Cruz County. I miss summer fog. Love this quilt.
Me too, before we lived in Idaho we lived 8 blocks from the ocean. I miss the marine layer. TFW Janie
Hi Di and the Engineer!! I will often just want to do mindless sewing so I grab a layer cake and cut it up and sew it back together. Cute quilt top. Loved the fabric! ❤
Ahh, you understand Marie😍👍🏼 Thanks to you for always watching my channel 😊♥️🐥
You are fun!
🤣👍🏼♥️🐥
I just found your channel and subscribed. I love easy to make but beatiful quilts.
Thank you for subscribing, I appreciate it. And thanks for watching my channel 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
.I really appreciate your Washi tape demo! That’s very helpful! I like your quilt a lot! Thanks, Di!
Thanks bunches, Sherry, I really enjoy using washy tape, it keeps me on the straight narrow❣️😂😂🤣♥️🐥
The colours and the stripes are so summer. And "hey!" The engineer hears that😮. Hugs, Chel 🌸
🤣😂🤣 The Engineer 😳😂 Hugs to you down under 🤗 😊♥️🐥
Oh boy! Now if I just remember this pattern when I get moved again (GRRR!), I have several layer cakes to use for that. I never know what to do with the layer cakes after I fall in love with them and buy them! Poor things just languish away in my drawers! I promise to make them. Hopefully, it won't take me more than three months to get settled back in! I love the fabric, and the simple design. As always, I appreciate you sharing your ideas!
save it to a pinterest board. That's what I do.
Good idea Diane, writing it down somewhere even virtually is always a good idea. Claudia good luck with your move and thanks for watching.😊♥️🐥
Your quilt top turned out very pretty. Thanks for sharing with us. I have a lot of stash with no layer cakes so I'll just have to make my own. The pattern looks easy enough for me to tackle as I'm a beginner quilter. Have a great day !
Since you’re cutting your own, Connie, maybe you could make yours a little bit wider to compensate for the inch that is taken up in the seams. Then you wouldn’t have to trim yours and have a bigger quilt. Have fun and thank you for watching my channel.😊👍🏼♥️🐥
That turned out surprisingly cute!! I loved hearing about your relaxing vacation!
Thanks, Maria, I’m still kind of on a vacation high, and loving it. TFW😊♥️😂
Hi, I love the simplicity of the pattern. So easy to make and so nice. The colors are great.
And that is why layer cakes are so much fun! Because of the great mix of colors and you don’t have to buy a bunch of yardage👍🏼😊♥️🐥
I just love the colors of this layer cake. 🙂
Me too, such happy colors😃👍🏼♥️🐥
Love it I did that with disappearing 9 patch. Love the colors. Hope you had a good relaxing vacation 😎
Thank you, Caren with a C. Glad you like it and I did.👍🏼😀♥️🐥
Super cute Miss Di. Love that line. So bright and cheery. 🤗🤗
Thank you so much Debbie 🤗 Your quilt you made to day is so woodsy & cute, it's all about the fabric, right?
I wouldn't have chosen that layer cake because i usually dont use those colors, but i like how it turned out. I'm going to use that pattern for a QOV.
That’s a great idea Dianne . I chose that layer cake because I inherited it and didn’t have to pay for it. And the colors are so bright and happy.TFW😃👍🏼♥️🐥
You’re back in your sewing room!
Well, not really, this week we're vendors at a local quilt show, then next week it shoudl be done and I'm moving in. Hopefull, right befor your eyes🤓😍🐥
Enjoyed this episode so much. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching😃👍🏼♥️🐥
Good tutorial! I’ll be back!
Thank you so much, Jayne. What a compliment.😃👍🏼♥️🐥

Glad you had a lovely vacation 😊 ❤ Love, Love your videos!!
Thank you, I’m glad to be back quilting too😊♥️🐥
Love your quilt with the layer cake.
Thank you Sue! 😊
I'm so happy you enjoyed your vacation. Sounds wonderful and relaxing. We're planning on a vacation in CO mountains camping. I can't wait. I havent had a "real" vacation in 9 years.
Wonderful 😀❣️ The mountains of CO are beautiful, enjoy Karin👍🏼😊♥️🐥
A girl after my own heart. We did the same thing last year with some family members. this will be my next quilt
Ah, thank you Velma :)
Di, really love the quilt (hearts, light/dark solid). I find that 2-3 color quilts really allows the geometry to pop. Your Easy Transition would serve as a quick and charming project.
Very clever cutting. HOWEVER.... Girl, get yourself a Stripology Ruler (XL) It is an investment, but I guarantee you this: you will save time and fabric (cause no bad cuts). Because you are a business woman, the time that you save cutting is time that you can be long arming for your customers or making your videos--both of which are time consuming. (And of course all of the needful things in life too)
Since this video, you’re not the only one that’s told me about the strip emoji ruler,Leisa . I will definitely have to check one out thanks for the tip and thanks for watching. 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
@@sisterchicksquilting That ruler is part of my quilt ruler evangelism. I always recommend rulers which I believe help with optimally equipping quilters to make their live easier. See you soon.
Very bright and fun! Thank you for sharing, Di!
You're welcome Wanda.Thanks for watching!
Ty for sharing this ‘Easy Transition’ pattern💃🏻 We like easygoing quilt love stuff!! You’re fun to watch ❤🦜🌴
Thank you, Kimberly Begonia. 😍 it’s fun to hear that.😃👍🏼😀 TFW😊🐥♥️
I love this quilt! I also wanted to say that although I appreciated all of the creativity used in the panel quilt challenge, yours was my favorite! I have purchased panels that I’ve personally fallen out of love with. Your quilt has given me so many new and exciting ideas to do with them! I actually took them out of my donation pile and am going to borrow your nine patch idea and am super excited to see what happens! Thank you so very much for sharing all of your knowledge and creativity with your subscribers!!!❤
That's pretty cool Laura. Have a grand time cutting up panels and making beautiful quilts.
I love this quilt
TFW Vicki😊👍🏼♥️🐥
Very nice. I know our brains all think different. I would have had to do the 3.5" then the 2.5" so that the would be on an even number (no halves) then the 4"
LOL, I actually thought of that when I was cutting out, doh! But then I was committed. Thanks for watching :)
I absolutely love this quilt!!
Thanks Pam🙂 I love your handle and am wondering about the "bread" in it? LOL
Thanks for watching. 😍😍🙂
@@sisterchicksquilting oh it's an easy explanation. I love & collect gingerbread items. 😁
What cute material, too bad you can't get the layer cake anymore. This will be a nice relaxer quilt to make for sure. Thank you for another great idea!
You’re welcome Diana TFW👍🏼😊♥️
I LOVE YOU DI....can't wait to make me one!
Oh my goodness, Jeanne🥰 thank you so very much😊♥️🐥
Love love love this easy tutorial. Thank you for sharing. So pretty.
I loved this video! My first time seeing the wasabi tape trick, awesome! Love to listen to you, so soothing and humorous
@@connieclark3562 thank you Connie 👍🏼😊 i love that tape. Thank you for watching my channel😊♥️🐥
I Love Love Love the Oregon coast. We stayed in a house in Yachats that was the same with the balcony. Wonderful. Thanks for another fun quilt idea.
Yes, the Person Cost is so much fun, TFW👍🏼♥️😊🐥
I love all you easy designs that I feel I can do!
It’s adorable. Good idea. Sometime helps get that mojo going!
Thanks, it was a good mojo project 👍🏼😍🐥
Yes!! Great idea and implementation😊
Yay, thank you Diane!
That is beautiful.❤❤❤
Thank you & thanks for watching!
What a happy sunshiny Quilt Di a great idea for a layer cake which I will try soon. Thank you for sharing with us x
Our quilting minds think alike Amanda. Thank you for watching my videos.😊♥️🐥
I love it so much. Right now I'm working on a giant king-size quilt and it's a bear. So heavy and awkward to move in my tiny little space. I need something easy and relaxing...easy transition...thanks for the ideas!
You’re welcome, Debra. I do that too and get several projects going at a time.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
🎉❤love your pattern
Such a cheerful quilt ❤️ it
It is and of course, it's all about the fabric! Thanks for watching.👍😍🙂😍
I have no layer cakes in my stash. I guess I need to get some 😊
Or cut some from your stash. Thanks for watching.
Love this
Thank you, Lora😊♥️🐥
I just love watching your videos. They are always very informative. Thank you for sharing.
Pat T. In Delaware
Glad you like them, Pat T. In Delaware 👍🏼😊 thanks you for watching them 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Love your teriolds
What a super fun way to use a layer cake!!! I know you don't like to take credit for blocks/patterns that have been around a long while, but they don't come with such fun step-by-step directions for us beginners :)
I used your link for Cutterpillar & I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lighted clamp for rulers!! What a game changer for confidence & accuracy :)
Thank you Tiffany, glad you got the Cutterpillar, enjoy!
Love your setup guide to cutting. Amazing.
Thank you TFW👍🏼♥️🐥
👋👋 ❤️ nice quilt. 😂😂😂 Don’t walk but run to your quilt shop and get that stripolgy ruler. You will love it. 😉🤪
Was it a Stripology ruler? I think it was a QS (Quilter's Select) ruler. 6x12 inch
@@rochellenowik9875 correct she was using QS. But she needs to get a stripolgy ruler. Look it up online. It’s a very useful ruler. Happy sewing
Thanks for the tips on the ruler Peggers. TFW!
The fabric is lovely. I agree with you about beautiful fabrics.
Thank you Sandy! 😊
You did a nice job creating your own. Thank you.
Thanks you Donna & thanks for watching my channel!
great quilt and fast
Wonderful concept, techniques, and quilt!😊
Thank you so much, Gloria👍🏼❣️🐥
Awesome quilt! Love the fabric!
Thanks Chris & TFW😊♥️🐥
This is a nice quilt. Glad you enjoyed your vacation. The Engineer was funny, had to look up troglodyte. Can’t wait to see what you have for us in the next video
I’ve had to look up a lot of his words our whole married life, he has a pile of them🤣👍🏼😂♥️🐥
Love this quilt.. Can you show how to measure and do backing for the quilt. I am new have no long arm and make small quilts but backing is my struggle.
Please email me, this will be a long answer. I’m happy to teach you. TFW😊♥️🐥
Super cute.

I just found your RUclips channel for the first time (through a Fabric Hut email) and very much enjoyed this video on your layer cake quilt. What is the finished size of this quilt using one layer cake? I also have never used the washi tape and will check it out, too. I will definitely be watching more of your videos! Thank you!
Awesome. 🎉❤
Thanks 🤗 Janet
Great video
Thanks, Monica👍🏼♥️🐥
Real good project. Cutting idea is good unless, like I've got a lot of, the layer cake isn't 10" square.
Mine wasn’t square either Liz. But the pattern was so loose. I knew I could make blocks without squaring it up. Thanks for watching.😊♥️🐥
This quilt is fast and do able 😊
Yep, it is, thanks for watching
Trimming could be a little boarder❤
👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Easy Peasy Cuteness😁
Thank Jess Rene 👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Cute quilt! I’m new to quilting. I understand you squared up the blocks. Could you have left the blocks the original size or did they have to be squared up first? Thanks
They needed the blocks to be square to fit to the layout I chose. Technically they weren't squared up instead they only had one side cut off. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Great pattern Di! I’ve a stash of some beautiful layer cakes this would work very well with💕🧵
Sounds great Helen!
Very cute! At the end of your comments, you said that you made it with a jelly roll. I don’t know if you can correct what you said, changing it from jelly roll to layer cake. Being as I’m a new quilter, there was some confusion.
Oops😳⁉️ I did mean to say layer cake. Sorry for the confusion I’m unable to change it. It stinks getting old and struggling for words. Thanks for watching😊♥️🐥
This is a beautiful quilt!y sister-in-law and I are making 8 quilts for a girls only getaway weekend & we needed simple and fast patterns - this one will be awesome!!! 👏🏻
Thank you 😊 What is the finished size? Did I miss that?
You know, I never measured it😳. But the finished block size is 8 1/2 inches, and there’s six blocks across and seven blocks down. What a fun project for your weekend getaway.👍🏼😂♥️🐥
You do such great work. Quick question: I am making a quilt to go to "hot" Texas. I have not used cuddle on a bed quilt. Does the cuddle make the quilt hotter?
Yes, consider the recipients body type. I also use wool as it’s so light. It’s warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. It’s my go to batting for all y personal quilts and am under a wool quilt as I write. Give me a call this am if you need more discussion.
Did you keep the same side (3 in ) always in the same place or did you twist and turn? It's hard to tell on the video. Love the quilt and will be cutting a layer cake up soon to try it!
Dang it! I should have pointed that out. Yes, I kept the same side in the same position throughout the layout.
Thanks for asking and watching👍🏼♥️😊🐥
Loved the video, where did you stay on the coast sounded lovely
Rockway beach by Tillamook. It was divine, thanks for asking Linda👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Great idea!
Thank you Jeanette and thank you for watching my channel
I would call the quilt "Lotsa Moxie."
What a clever name 👍🏼😱TFW😊♥️🐥
