@AJTV & @@davidwilson1952 Hearing "stay strong", "it'll be okay" and the like must really get on your tits. If music is your comfort, music it is 24/7. Depression has roots to something or some event that has or is about to happen in your life. Life goes on and nothing will stop time, not even the fact you're at your lowest. Nothing shameful with being at your lowest, it shows you the importance of lone-time. Positivity is key, even if it's false. You're needed on this world, remember that. Without you it'll just be another floating planet.
My friend PJ introduced me to Florence and we used to sit and listen to the Foos together in cafes and parks. She passed away recently and this song seemed a fitting place to put this. Rest in peace PJ, you will always be missed.
You know, I was there on that day. Although I do like Florence, I was still kind of disappointed because I wouldn't see FF and I know a lot of people who went there felt the same. But when she sang that song, everyone just went crazy! She really won everyone on that stage...
I was at this with my now wife. I was planning to propose whilst watching Suede at John Peel tent the following night. We’re both big fans of Suede and Florence but Suede were the first band we saw together five years earlier. During this performance I actually put my hand in my pocket to get the ring box and do it a day early. When I looked at my girlfriend she was already sobbing at this so thought it best to wait until Suede as planned.
"And my friend, Florence, got to headline that year. And I'm very happy that that happened. Because you know what, I thought she should have been headlining anyway........... And all of a sudden, she started playing a Foo Fighters song. Way better than we've ever played a Foo Fighters song". Dave Grohl.
I've commented before on this, somewhere, but it deserves another commment because I have listened to it again (for the xth time, x being an unquantifiable number becasue I have lost count of the mber of times I have listened to this) andd have been blown away by the sound, the meaning, the music and Florence's involvement in the song. This is fantastic.
Even as I’m being a very old fan of The Foo's this cover blew me away. Nothing beats the original but this certainly comes close. I got goosepumbs.. What an absolute beautiful rendition.
I'm watching this in the (goddamn) year 2020 and it just brings tears to my eyes. Such a great cover, lyrics that fit like a glove and on top it is my favourite song. Another life goal is to hear it live in the front rows at least one more time, whenever this may happen...
5 years on, I still remember this like it was yesterday. This was a special moment, one of those great Glastonbury moments - Florence catching the spirit and vibe of love and peace with this tribute to Dave Grohl. I still cannot believe I watched this from the front.... love you, Florence!
It's times like these...I'll tell my grandchildren I was there. It was even more beautiful in the moment. The once in a lifetime Glastonbury trip has now firmly become part of my life.
She is just amazing, the passion just radiates out of her. I mean to be ballsy enough to cover a foo fighters song is one thing but to absolutely smash it is another .
I've seen Florence live 3 times always my beautiful daughters treat . Listening to this woman sing in the company of my daughters makes "My heart sing" ❤
When there are no words to describe the feelings when someone brings the past 100x times more stronger!!! No words, just feelings ... emotions ... and tears!!
yesterday he started his set at glastonbury thanking florence for playing this song when they had to cancel, and he played it as well and dedicated it to her
I just started watching the Foo Fighters concert at Glastonbury 2017 when I heard Dave saying that Florence covered Times like These and I just had to open another RUclips widow and watch it. And not even 30 seconds into this video and I was literally crying from the beautiful sounds invading my ears, and all I could think was how lucky were all the bastards that got to experience this live. Simply amazing.
lol the description "Taken from the album ‘How Big How Blue How Beautiful’..." oh how i wish she did a studio version of this even though this version is simply beautiful.
Mosque yes! so? florence performed this song for dave because the foo fighters had to cancel their headline slot last minute (and were replaced by florence + the machine) because dave broke his leg a couple of days before the festival and wasn't able to perform. a kind tribute.
+Karina Belkina The Foo Fighters wrote the song, I prefer their version but this is still beautiful. The reason she sang it is because Dave Grohl, the singer of the Foo Fighters broke his ankle and couldn't perform. So she took their spot at short notice. She sang one of their songs to give the crowed a bit of Foo Fighters since they missed out.
I've yet to see a cover Florence does that she doesn't turn into something brilliant. Obviously not as good as the original, but her own take on a fantastic song is usually a masterpiece.
tell me about it! I was there.... and this will stay in my memory as long as I live - the BBC even caught me warbling tunelessly during the second chorus! Simply a wonderful experience, and one that captured the essence of what Glastonbury is all about!
First saw Florence and the Machine in 2009 , when she was bottom of the NME tour in Birmingham . I had never heard anything from her. I walked in to an empty venue around 730 and walked to the front of the stage. She was half way through a song. Then she played another one . At the end I turned to my friend Mike, and said "this girl is sensational she is going to be huge" One of the great live performers in the history of "the rock and roll years " (1954/present) , and one of a number of present artists who IMO give a lie to those who keep saying "there is no great music around nowadays" Of course they have calcified .
