weird how mining corporations can legally leave their trash and toxic chems all over the southwest but riding a bike down a rock hill is some kind of sin
I’m all for removing that double standard, no one should be allowed to trash the desert.
BLM staked a big piece of trash right into that rock…
Kind of ironic you are surrounded by thousands of products all made thanks to mining. Hypocrite much?
absolutely no perspective from BLM on this.
if there would be oli diamonds or something else the whole mountain would be shattered into pieces
I'm with your original assesment. It looks like a rock.
To protect a rock the federal government drills a hole in it.
Drilling a hole in the rock for a stupid sign should be illegal, and riding down the rock should be legal. I guarantee not many people will ride down that rock.
The environmental issue is with the dirt at the bottom. But yeah. Seems a bit dumb to react like that to a line only a pro would ride anyway.
@@mitchell7man Moab is completely bass-ackwards about a lot of things like this. They like to control and most of the people making decisions are completely incompetent. Source: I'm local.
the sign is only needed to address the stupidity of riding down a rock
"Hey, let's stab a seven-foot metal pole into the rock, to show everyone how delicate the surrounding crip... crypto... crypto...biologically soil is fragillee." "But, to read it, won't that increase traffic on the surrounding soil?" "Huh?"
“I consider myself a pretty good rider”. Dude is so humble, he’s one of the best ever.
agreed, technically he's an incredible rider. sadly he has no social conscience or realisation of the damage he is causing. Nor has he the slightest idea of the consequnces of trail damage he casues has for less gifted (self entitled riders ) by the resulting negative sentiments about mountain bikiers and thier impact. I used to follow his videos, but have stopped. Sadly I fell for this click bait. Maybe he would redeem himsefl... unfortunately not... his non apology apology is just so very sad. Pehaps he needs a consequence for such behaviour, Maybe he should be banned from riding in moab for this. Hopefully the BLM might realise they are being taken for a ride here and will react accordingly.

2x props to explaining why the law is what it is as well. Educating the public about cryptobiotic crust / soil is a hard and constant struggle in Moab and the desert SW in general. Glad he tried to get the message out there!
He got caught he didn't own anything.
@@elhior23dude let it go. Because you’ve never ridden illegal trails or never sped a single km over the speed limit? The point of trails or defined routes is to focus the impact on the landscape and environment to a selected area, minimizing the overall impact on the environment.

Kinda crazy how Kilian Bron also rode the exact same line, posted the exact same video and it had 50m views, and zero negative response
Yep. He rode one of the two lines but did not get any negative. Perhaps less of his following is US based.
I have always been impressed by your attitude. You do amazing things, but always espouse the importance of safety and responsibility in not doing what you are not capable of, or not feeling that that is the right time to do a particular feature. Today, you have as others put it ‘owned your mistake’. I am significantly older than you and feel that your attitude and approach make you an excellent role model for people younger than you.
Thank you
Except he intentionally rode where he knew it was illegal and didn't give a shit until he got caught. This is not what any of us want for a ambassador for the sport. This is just a bullshit move by an asshole.
thanks Rémy 👍
Go pro always makes the footage like an easy line. This one did not. Props on the line and props on owning up to your wrong doing!
Good stuff Remy

Love Sand Flats & heading beck in three weeks!
"I consider myself a pretty good rider"...I would agree 🤣
Awe, Remy. You had a metal sign dedicated for you at Moab. Not very many can say they accomplished that.
They don't want people destroying the area, so they drilled a hole in the rock. Hahaha.
Because once it’s on the internet, others will follow. Most won’t have Remy’s skills and the first responders will be scraping someone off the sand stone. That being said, BLM should have updated the marker with an official no bikes emblem. Knowing Remy’s approach to the sport, he wouldn’t have ridden it. After all, anyone with a white sharpie could have vandalized the marker.

Not the feature but the surrounding soil...

Don't apologize to people that say they ski but never climbed a mountain in their life.
Good luck 🍀 honesty pays
Remy is too nice. I'd have been pointing out the hypocrisy of letting all those motor vehicles destroy the area and the fact that they drilled a fucking sign post into the feature they were trying to say they were protecting.
protect the landscape & drilling a hole and putting a ugly sign there made my day...
Well played!
I love the mountain bike community.
I live in UT by the Wasatch mtn range. There are some really sick bike trails nearby. Dude if you're ever in the Salt Lake area PLEASE I'd love to take some action shots of you riding!!!!!!
I love how they drilled a hole into the rock feature and put a sign! That’s really preserving the landscape! What a joke!
The rock isn't the issue, the cryptobiotic soil is. I would suggest educating yourself on what cryptobiotic soil is and why it's important (a primer; it takes a VERY long time to regenerate and is one of the main defences against erosion in arid regions. The little rain we get is more easily absorbed into crypto than sand--it is vital to the stability and health of desert landscapes).
It isn't one or two people walking on crypto, it's every person with main character energy thinking they're the only person. When you blow something like this up on social media it causes a ripple effect and then you have a large problem. This is why those of us who actually live in these environments now have to deal with permits to do anything these days--every influencer has drug their followers out to fragile landscapes and absolutely destoyed them. As such, the BLM, USFS, and NPS crack down heavy on influencers.
The desert doesn’t care about its crypto. There’s more dirt right under the dirt you’re worried so much about. You’re probably the same smooth brain yelping about climate swamp monsters ruining the world. No matter how many tires and feet roll over the rock and “crypto” here in MOAB it will still be here long after humans go extinct. So don’t you loose anymore sleep little buddy about what happens on the interwebs out here in MOAB.
@@GlizzyGoblin6969 Your point is well taken but the dude you're responding to also has a valid point. How much of that sand do you think is displaced by the drill they used? You really think that drill did less damage than the very few riders who have ever ridden down it? I get that he's an influencer and you think others will flock to do the same, but keep in mind that he's one of the best in the world and people don't just do stuff like that. I can guarantee you that less than 1% of his audience has anywhere close to the ability it takes to even think about attempting something like that. No one wants tire tracks down something like that either, it'd be an eyesore and ruin the natural beauty. All that said, that drill did much more damage than his bike did.
Moab is beautiful. Let's keep it that way. Thanks for the informative video and the apology.
In regards to Lions Back, you are thinking of the Jeep commercial for the 75th Anniversary of Jeep. Lions back is on private land and they had special permission.

Legality aside, that was astonishingly brave and audacious, just looking at the video made me feel queasy! I can see another good reason for the authority's act of installing an impassable obstacle, not many riders out there are anywhere near capable enough but that would not have stopped some from attempting that spine-chilling drop themselves-with predictably carastrophic results.
You were the first and most certainly will be the last,-most impressive! Bravo!!!

Yeah, Rémy! Kudos for owning your mistake and turning it into a positive message. You made an impression on a bunch of kids in the World Class Academy last year in Whistler... and now I know why.
Not that many people have the ability or balls to tackle some thing like that. You did not harm that rock in anyway it will still be there thousands of years from now. We have too many stupid laws.
All my life, I used to fully respect these "no bikes, protect the landscape" warnings. Up until a year ago, when i saw some of these "forbidden" areas, that the forest had been cut down to the ground. Even if i was riding there every day for 10000 years, i wouldn't cause that much damage like they did in a few weeks. Fuck them, honestly. I will never harm wildlife, ride over protected plants or anything, i never litter, never do any kind of unnecessary damage. Obeying the laws sound like a logical thing to do, but only when the laws are logical.
Still, badass that you rode that!
