As Deniece Williams would sing Let's hear it for the boys🎶😄 we have a town here in Colorado called La Junta that has a big male tarantula migration every year😄do you guys ever travel to see them in the wild?
And while I still have a strict no smash policy at all times we've been having a lot of black widows this year...
Any advice on things to discourage them from getting too close to the house?
Always wonderfully informative videos❤ just love you two and your beasties 🕷❤

Wow. I have seen about the male migration, but I never seemed to novice, that it was in Colorado. Awesome, it must fantastic to experience that phenomenon.
We sometimes see male house spiders (Eratigena atrica) cross the road here in Denmark, but not in droves. Male spiders are a bit underestimated, in my book. They are so important.
And: When it comes to those widows, happy smackin'! They ARE of medical concern, so... happy smackin'.😂

I've been told, many high end makeup palettes use colours from the 'natural' world. Camera lady will know what I'm talking about. Guerlain for instance uses bees, the yellows and black, kat von d used to use spider colourings in their shades chosen. Like the greens going with the browns. I just bought a byredo eyeshadow palette that uses all the natural colours in the sea. So spiders are influencing colours we wear in our makeup and telling us what shades look good together. Aren't they clever 😉 edit: not actual colours from the spiders and bees but influenced by their colouring. The only colour used from an insect is carmine from a beetle.

As always Dave your videos are great. Entertaining but more over educational. I never got up early for a college lecture 😂
Im going to get a bit geeky now sorry. My background is a theatre lighting engineer. The blue green component of spider colouration is a structural colour as opposed to pigmentation, and is created by the way higher frequency light bounces around in the interal structure of hairs and fibres. It is the only colour that spiders see that we also see but its not terribly camera friendly. Think the famous blue and gold dress that went viral. The reds which are generally pigmented our eyes see both colours really well, caneras love red, spiders cant see it. ( Many ungulates cant either which is why hunters can wear hi viz orange when out shooting deer and tigers can hide in green grass ) hence what we see as a brown or black spider a camera will pick out the red components but another spider will see the blue green and ultraviolet component. Im waiting for a documentary on how other animals see colours cos i cant afford all the specialist cameras lol.

Listening??? They don’t have ears, right? Love these videos! I was feeling disappointed when my T matured out to be male. (Chloe turned into Clyde) After a while, I found a great deal of pleasure just observing him.

Awesome showcase! My male M. balfouri just matured. He looks incredible, so much blue coloration than before his ultimate molt. He is a real stunner! I have 3 lovely females that I'm conditioning for the chance to pair with him lol.
This will be my first time pairing M. balfouri. Can you tell me how long it generally takes your females to drop a sac after pairing? I want to be sure I've got plenty of time between pairing my spiders and the females next expected molts.
Thanks for the videos! They have been an invaluable resource for me and so many other keepers. Especially for breeding information in my case. I have learned so much about breeding spiders from your videos.
