That female was one big, huge girl. Her legs were three times bigger than his. he has some toothpick legs, but he was a hero just for the fact that he went in there to do his job brave little guy😳👀

By far the best channel on yt! I love to watch the behavior of other speces. Really interesting. Ever since I got my owne first dog at the age of 10 I loved to walk into the forrest and just watch and try to understand what and why. Animales never do anything without a purpose. Brits are known to love dogs and when you see them walking with the snout down on the ground they actually follow a sent. This becomes obviois when winter comes up here in Norway and you can see what have been walking in the snow. That sent tells them who have been there, witch way they have walked and (if it is another dog) sex. Another dogs urin gives even more interesting information 😀 Here we have "problems" with the moose coming down to the roads, train tracks and laying around the houses in winter. People get scared and then often angry and dont even try to understands why. The fact is that it is only cows with calfs, and they do it cus the calfs strugle in the deep snow and the mum is bringing the child to easyer inviroment where they can feed and relax. I wish everyone could try to understand insted of getting scared, angry and try to get rid of the "problem." Teach kids to respect the nature. We are after all walking in someone ells livingroom as soon as we walk out of our houses. ❤️

5:00 So one of my cats was watching the spider crawl around and just happened to walk up to the left side of the screen for a closer look and the spider turned and "looked" right at my cat and around the 5 10 mark he hisses at the screen so natrually I go to pet him to say it's ok buddy he's not real only the second I touch my cat he goes ballistic about 4 feet into the air, lands with the spider still looking at him and jumps backwards bouncing off the wall as I am trying not to get clawed to death and out of the room he goes hissing at random things...... LOL
I have a WIDE monitor. That spider is over 3 1/2 feet wide on the screen. So as far as he's concerned he just saw a spider almost as big as he is......

That was very interesting. Although it's mostly basic behavior now and again One can see something never seen before. Like His introduction or Her stroking Him with the Pedipalps. But in the end it didn't look like He's done the Job. He looked a bit exhausted...after all...She's quite a Hulk😮
😮she is one huge lady, loved this on the edge of my seat.
I don't think we had full contact here, because she never buckled down. I think this male knew he couldn't wrangle this female and cut his losses. I think he was exhausted because he slid down that glass. He held her for a while, but I think he was already too tired. I think that burrow hole was the problem. Just an unfortunate postilion for both of them. That is just my 2 Cents. Peace.

On the male tarantula's, do the tibial hooks appear only on Old World or New World spiders? Or does it depend on the species type alone?
And, for those of us who are complete amateurs - when you say this is a very large female spider, can you give an approximate estimation of overall leg length during your talk? I can clearly see how much heavier and stockier she is than the male, but with such close up camera work its difficult to judge size.
And for us very amateur spider lovers would you perhaps add a quick word on the common name as well as your well pronounced Latin names?

Hi dave and camera lady wow another great pairing video I'm yet to get a minax in my collection I have a hati hati and lividus o love cyriopagopus genus and rhe chilobrachys too my lividus is sub adult unseeded and I also have a sling aswell so hoping for the best if both to breed them i thought when he fell down then she did thought he was going to be a gonner haha lucky she has different exits ❤

Great video as always with great informative value! ;-) When I started watching your channel 2 years ago, it was not very obvious to spot the tibial hooks and pedipalp embolies on males, but now that some of my males have matured out (1 pampho sp mascara & 1 GBB), it's much easier to spot. 😅

It's possible that the reason why the female is so large might be because of the fact that she had to compensate for living in a dry enclosure by eating more in order to hydrate.
These females do grow large
I had the luckiest mm H maculata ever, he got a puncture wound from the female in his carapace before he managed to escape. He actually survived for around 3 months after
I was told to put superglue on those sorts of injuries…luckily I never had to try it!
@@58Kym that’s exactly what I did with him, I’m guessing that’s why he did so well afterwards - that and the fact she must have just given him a dry bite
@@Inn3rWarri0r A lot of animals have inbuilt resistance/tolerance to their own venoms so that probably helped. Did you use superglue gel or liquid? I imagine the gel would be easier to use?

He is one slick guy getting away from her aggression at the end. Even though there might of been no insemination he knew it was time to leave. Amazing footage of what goes on in the nether region with him boxing away trying to find the epigastric furrow.👍 Question Dave, if there was no insemination will he still make another sperm web? So would him making a new sperm web confirm insemination?

Yes if he makes a sperm web we can be pretty sure he was successful
I’ve read that you can tell if insemination happened by what the male does next. If he doesn’t make a new sperm web, it means his palps are still loaded bc there was no inseminatiom. What do you think? .
